Neat! I was just poking around their website and found this link http://www.corcell.com/strategic-alliances/organizations/lv-science-festival/
It's a science festival in Las Vegas and CBAI is giving tours, so we could potentially see them separating the blood? It's good marketing nonetheless, I bet they might pick up a few customers through the tours.
I would love to be in Vegas right now!!! It's springtime in the desert, which means some good hiking.
BigPharma speculation is taking on a new dimension and becoming less of a speculation.
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/tarix-pharmaceuticals-enrolls-first-patient-in-phase-1-clinical-study-of-txa127-in-adult-patients-following-double-cord-blood-stem-cell-transplant-120691424.html
If CBAI got picked up by bigpharma there would a lot of happy investors eh? The more stocks they held the happier-or so it would seem.
This is one more example of what a vital and fast-paced industry stem cells are-and with a company like CBAI who has a really agressive growth strategy, I say, bring it on!!
There are currently more than 70 diseases treated by stem cells and many clinical trials are currently underway for diseases such as cerebral palsy, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s.
This article explores the possiblity of using stem cells to help the Japanese workers who's health may be damaged by working at the Fukishima nuclear plant.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/15/us-japan-stemcells-idUSTRE73E05C20110415
Maybe one of the acquisitions under LOI is in Japan? I know that CBAI's acquisition strategy is on a global scale...
500M nucleated cells in order to do what?
As for how many cells dental pulp yields, I have no idea. I guess I could research that, but I'm not feeling too enthusiastic about that right now...does anyone else know?
Didn't CBAI invest or do something with dental pulp? This article is about growing teeth from dental stem cells, one thing it points out is that an advantage to dental stem cells is that there isn't any ethical controversy over them and they are more plentiful than other sources for stem cells.

Cuz they are staying ahead of the game? They saw potential in an untapped market that most wouldn't until later on?
CBAI always seems to be one step ahead of the game.
I had heard wispers about this study, but here is an actual article about it:
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/222842.php
The main finding of the study was that othe placenta provides serotonin to the fetal forebrain, not through the mother's blood supply, as theorized for the past 60 years.
This relates to CBAI in that they just signed on for another placenta collection project:
http://www.cordblood-america.com/cbai-news/195-cord-blood-america-announces-second-major-placenta-umbilical-cord-collection-service
And the fact that we are finding out new things about placentas and their uses shows that placenta collection really has untapped potential. However, CBAI has already gotten a piece of this market-One step ahead of the game.
In a past example-CBAI is part of the company that stored the stem cells used in the first autologous cord blood treatment-one step ahead.
ViaCell sold their samples for 5x the annual revenues-at $2300.00 each. CBAI holds about 25-30,000 samples.
paid over 10M in debt in the last 2 years.
Acquired Stella, BioCell, and RGI in the last year.
Signed on to start another placenta project.
Built the Las Vegas lab-opened Jan 2010
increased revenues and gross profit margins last year.
Pretty rosy picture eh? And now they stand to gain 3 new acquisitions that are currently under LOI-any one of which would be a game changer and will make CBAI cash flow positive.
PRNewswire - Cord Blood America, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CBAI.ob - News), the umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation company focused on bringing the life saving potential of stem cells to families nationwide and internationally, is pleased to announce that its shareholders have approved an amendment to the Company's Articles of Incorporation effecting a reverse stock split.
Stemcells are now used to cure 70 different diseases, and new uses are being worked on and discovered all of the time:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/15/us-japan-stemcells-idUSTRE73E05C20110415
http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/breakthrough-new-heart-grown-using-adult-stem-cells/
Good thing CBAI plans on being the best and the biggest, and that they will be. This is a nice big healthy market
And they have been playing their cards right all along, paying down 10M of the legacy debt in the last 2 years no less!! And still showing gross profit and revenue gains. And going after it agressivly-3acquisitions last year and 3 under LOI this year!!!
That's awesome!!!!
Strength in numbers and comfort in knowing others feel the same way? Less cognitive dissonance overall?
There are currently more than 70 diseases treated by stem cells and many clinical trials are currently underway for diseases such as cerebral palsy, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s. And here is a quote and a link from an article on the CBAI newsroom page: "We at Cord Blood America would like to tip our hats to TIME magazine for the special story in its March 28, 2011 issue on “How Stem Cells Are Changing the Way We Think About Disease.”"
http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2059521_2059712_2059711,00.html
Great post Mr/Ms Guru. I especially liked the quote:
Right, it took 14 years for CCEll to be cash flow positive and now they are going down bc they got to comfy and sat on their laurels. Meanwhile CBAI persued an aggressive strategic growth strategy that is makeing them a global company and cash flow positve in 7 years!!
14 years and they are going down. CBAI's mission is to be the leader and biggest in the stem cell industry-not a bad plan, and they will be at the way they are going. Paying down debt, global acquisitions, increased holdings, insurance partnerships, placenta projects, and other revenue diversification.
I am so curious to see who the LOIs are for...Mr. Schissler said they would be "game changers" and that any one of them would make CBAI cash-flow positive, so I wonder...what would all three do?
It is all a guess, but there are some clues as to how CBAI as a company will do.
Revenues increased 28%
Gross Profit Margin increased 41%

Acquired 3 new properties: Stella, BioCell, RGI

Signed insurance contract with BC/BS

Started a second Placenta project
http://www.cordblood-america.com/cbai-news/195-cord-blood-america-announces-second-major-placenta-umbilical-cord-collection-service
All of this indicates a thriving growing company. I would be curious as to why other companies would be investing in the CBAI that some are predicting such dire results for.
talking about the pps is irrelevant, CBAI is a penny stock. You cant expect significant change in a day.
Well we will have to see what pans out with any of the three acquisitions LOI. CBAI generally play with their cards close to their chest...its a smart strategy considering all the rhetoric that goes on around here.
Last year they expanded through Stella and BioCell, RGI. And the placenta project.
You should really follow this link:
http://cordblood-america.com/investors/ir-blog
It's Matt Schissler's blog for investors, it details his plan for growth and revenue diversification. It will tell you everything you want to know.
The mission statement says it all: CBAI wants to be the leader, the biggest and the best in the stem cell industry. The only way to get there is through growth. Thats why the properties they acquired last year weren't in the US-except RGI-CBAI is expanding onto the global market.
Misery loves company. Gotta buy at the right time.
CBAI is on an upswing, their revenues are up 28% and Gross profits 41%. This is because they were smart and made good acquisitions: Stella, BioCell, RGI.
Now they want to make more acquisitions and I say go! Do it! CBAI mission statment is to be the best and the biggest, the only way to do that is to grow and through good strategy.
Really? how did it help?!?
It brought all of CBAI's services 'in house' so they weren't selling someone elses services anymore. This meant that all of their samples were their own samples-Increasing the overall value of the company.
Some of the loss though is bc they built that lab in Vegas-and as it was pointed out, that won't be a recurring expense. Some loss from Stell and BioCord too. It's just like buying a house (well, not just like it) you have less money at first and your balance sheets look poor, but once paid off, your investment can earn you equity or (hopefully) be sold for a profit.
Right, which were up 41%. I think, well the investors blog actually says, that this is due to revenue from Stella and BioCord-CBAI acquisitions last year.
With the new stem cell industry news every single day it is plain to see that this is a fast paced industry and I think it is smart of CBAI to try to buy up as much of it as they can. That way if it ever tops out, we will be the biggest, and in the meantime, while demand for cordblood storage grows we will be the biggest with holdings in every continent.
If profits increase this much with just those two acquisitions, think of what they would be if the 3 under LOI went though...
And it's the huge shareholders that know which way to vote too. Yes votes by true investors...or at least investors that have made a serious investment
I get it trading and I am with you. CBAI is a company run by a smart CEO, they are growing in a growing market and making smart moves in terms of acquisitions that are making us a global force to be reckoned with. I am very curious and interested to see how the (if any) pending acquisitions will positivly affect revenues in the future
That idea is ridiculous-that Matt has already spent unapproved shares!!
It just goes to show that
1) People expect the R/S to pass.
2) They are expecting new acquisitions.
Those that are so against this vote and CBAI in general must not have done their D/D and didn't make all that they could. They should buy now when the pps is so low.
The truth is CBAI is a good company and are showing that they are going to get even better. They have shown 28% growth in revenue this year, and made a smart strategic move acquiring two companies in other countries. And now have LOI's pending for 3 more acquisitions. People who invest in a penny stock and expect it to make money yesterday are always going to be disapointed
So it sounds like everyone is voting yes?
.1M came from the placenta project. CBAI just signed a second placenta deal too:
http://www.cordblood-america.com/cbai-news/195-cord-blood-america-announces-second-major-placenta-umbilical-cord-collection-service
And from general sales-the annual profits kinda compound/build on themselves:
"The practice is for parents to pay for the collection, processing and first year’s storage at the time of the child’s birth, with an annual storage payment made each year thereafter, for an additional 18 years. Under the current business model, each new storage agreement yields an ever increasing gross margin coupled with a less than 1% per year client churn rate providing a steady, highly profitable annuity based financial model."

Recent announcements of partnerships with Blue Cross/Blue Shield:
http://www.cordblood-america.com/cbai-news/204-cord-blood-america-otc-bb-cbai-announces-new-bluecross-blueshield-agreement-
And of course with AHIP:
Cord Blood America, Inc. (http://www.cordblood-america.com) (OTC Bulletin Board: CBAI), the umbilical cord blood stem cell preservation company focused on bringing the life saving potential of stem cells to families nationwide and internationally, is pleased to announce that it is the first cord blood stem cell storage company to become an alliance partner of AHIP (America's Health Insurance Plans), a national association representing nearly 1,300 member companies providing health insurance coverage to more than 200 million Americans.
AHIP members offer medical insurance, long-term care insurance, disability income insurance, supplemental insurance, stop-loss insurance and reinsurance to consumers, employers and public purchasers. AHIP also provides a unified voice for the community of health insurance plans, with the policy goal of providing high quality, affordable coverage to all Americans.
"This is an excellent opportunity for Cord Blood America to let these premier insurance providers know about the importance of storing umbilical cord blood at birth and the value of insuring the procedure," said Matthew Schissler, Cord Blood America co-founder, CEO and President. "We intend to take advantage of our ability to provide these companies a case study on the value of stem cell storage and to attend conferences where we can meet insurance executives face-to-face."
"We view this as another example of Cord Blood America being ahead of the field, in front of our competitors, with a business strategy that focuses on letting the gatekeepers in the industry know about the value of the service we provide," Mr. Schissler said.
Last years revenues were up b/c of the acquisitions of Stella and BioCure-they contributed approx 1M to the 4.1M total revenue.
This years revenues will of course be up even more and I am eager to see what kind of revenue any of the acquisitions LOI could bring in.
It isn't off topic, the stem cell industry is a growing so fast and no one knows how far we can take it. Articles like this remind us that CBAI is a good longterm investment...there really is no telling how far it is going to go!!!
Here is a similar article about the same person. His name is Timothy.
http://investorstemcell.com/featured/first-patient-to-get-stem-cell-therapy-is-identified/
This one is another good one about using stem cells to grow hearts!!
http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/breakthrough-new-heart-grown-using-adult-stem-cells/
That is a lot of phone calls. Everyone voted!! Have you okayed this with CBAI? Not sure they could handle that kinda call volume if everyone called
CBAI revenues were up up up. And in this kind of economy that is reassuring.
For the year ended December 2010, CBAI revenue was up 28%, or .9M to 4.1.
I repeat, revenue was up 28%!!!!
Much of this can be attributed to smart acquisitions. Stellacure brought in .45M and BioCord .43M, CORD brought in 3.25M.
http://cordblood-america.com/investors/ir-blog
They don't even have my number
Nooo...I haven't at least. Why do you ask?
CBAI is not a business based on stock itself, its about the number of samples stored that determines CBAI's valuation.
"The business model for umbilical cord blood storage is both simple to understand yet attractive due to its recurring revenue streams for storage services. The practice is for parents to pay for the collection, processing and first year’s storage at the time of the child’s birth, with an annual storage payment made each year thereafter, for an additional 18 years. Under the current business model, each new storage agreement yields an ever increasing gross margin coupled with a less than 1% per year client churn rate providing a steady, highly profitable annuity based financial model."
"The company also maintains all billing and collection of samples and is staffed by corporate resources dedicated to billing and receivables management for annual storage services. Collectively these storage only services drive an additional $1.7 Million in annual revenues. The net effect of these actions has been a significant reduction in the cash burn of the business."
CBAI investor's blog: april 8, 2011
http://cordblood-america.com/investors/ir-blog/206-cbai-business-valuation
Stem Cell industry advances are being made everyday. It's a good thing that CBAI is moving forward on acquisitions, the industry seems to be growing more and more each day. In particular we seem to be finding new uses for adult stem cells. The link below is a quick read about using stem cells to grow human hearts. http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/breakthrough-new-heart-grown-using-adult-stem-cells/
Blue Cross, AHIP, STellacure, Biocells, RGI, the three new acquistions under LOI, and all the different funds that have given CBAI money-somehow they all believe in CBAI, that it's a growing and prospering company. It's doubtful that CBAI managed to pull the wool over all of their eyes.
"hard to argue statistics"
no it isn't. Statistics are the easiest things to manipulate. Why do you think drug companies hire their own statisticians to analyze their studies?
