California District To Test Student Location RFID System
By Dian Schaffhauser
05/21/13
An unnamed school district in Northern California will be testing a free system that communicates the location of students whose families have opted into the service. The district will run its test in June 2013 using StudentConnect, a service from East Coast Diversified (ECDC).
StudentConnect uses global positioning satellites (GPS) and radio frequency identification (RFID) to provide wireless communications to parents and schools regarding the status of students during their daily bus pickup and arrival at school and their school bus stop drop-off. Each child wears or carries an RFID tag, which is detected by an RFID reader on the bus when it's in range and transmits data to a GPS system. That system sends parents text alerts to their mobile phones.
The same system also communicates with classroom RFID readers to track student entry and exit, allowing parents and schools to view online where the student is located during a given period.
The system is free to schools and districts. Funding comes through local and corporate sponsorship dollars. Advertisers pay a fee for each message delivered to parents with a marketing message.
"ECDC's StudentConnect technology will allow us to safely and effectively track the pick up and drop off of our students," said the district's transportation director, in a prepared statement. "We have been waiting for this technology for a long time as it will help to solve the transportation crisis within our school district."

Fortune 50 Fin Services - NEOM would not be hiding company identity if their relationship were strictly a marketing deal. NEOM has revealed many marketing campaigns in the past. It makes much more sense that the financial services firm is keeping details from industry competitors.
Who is the NeoMedia Fortune 50 Financial Services and Global 500 Financial services clients listed on IP client page? This sounds like someone is building a financial payments QR based service.
Fortune 50 Financial Services Company**
Global 500 Financial Services Company**
NEOM NOL over $3ooMM+ which makes tax value alone around $110MM despite some posters incorrect analyses. Then add the patent value and the total value goes much higher.
An investor would never reduce the amount it was owed prior to pushing a borrowed into bankruptcy. That would be idiotic. They would be doing just the opposite.
What's the point of doing this unless NEOM has serious funding coming from another place? NEOM would have to pay YA around $35MM in cash. It sounds like money coming from 3rd party.
Thanks much for posting this video of Wamu daily trading. It is great to see the individual trades.
LM and YA were bluffing on bankruptcy. If they file the court takes over YA loses control and Laura is out of a job. Also, the court would never approve her bonus plan. Also, the court would force a liquidation which would be a big loss for YA.
Shareholders stand a better chance in bankruptcy then with YA funding. If NEOM has any real shot of making it on a go foward basis will restructure and not push the company into default.
Have YA restructure their debt before any reverse split. Afterwards, they have no incentive. I guess Laura better get working or she is going to be unemployed. Personally, I think we can sell the patents for more than what we owe YA. If that wasn't the case they wouldn't keep lending NEOM money.
Uzual - What announcement are you referencing? Thx.
Bank of Marin just acquire a different bank.
Neomedia - NOL $256MM makes tax loss with $90MM which is much greater than what they owe YA. If you buy NEOM for the tax loss you get the intellectual property and patents for free.
LG - My thoughts as well. Now that actually makes sense.
Pick you are a dope if you think SG has postponed several times without having a deal in process.
Don't forget SG in the process of finalizing a deal with GS. I believe that GS doesn't want to face the same scrutiny that has come to JPM and Jaime Dimon. The new head of the SEC is going to start putting people in jail.
Pop - your postings make no sense at all. I am saying that with a few million dollars NEOM could by up most of the float with a modest increase in revenue. This would put prices in the stratosphere if there were only a 200MM shares in the float. NEOM could easily get another lender and YA would be extremely happy with the increase in price. The only thing that matters here is total enterprise value which is currently much higher than current prices reflect. The right strategic buyer would pay 10-20 times current value which would put the stock at several dollars. However, I am fairly certain that NEOM mgmt will reduce the outstanding float before they let that happen.
$80MM Tax refund coming to WMLIT is $.40/share that should be paid out in the next quarter. That will be a nice payout even before Goldman Sachs has to write a big check.
IBM revealing strategy for mobile computing with smartphones and looking to announce services and partnerships. Maybe all of the speculation about IBM is correct. I am holding my shares.
For I.B.M., mobile computing has come of age. At least, smartphones and tablets may be popular enough to make I.B.M. several billion dollars.
The company is announcing a major initiative into mobile, involving software, services and partnerships with other large vendors. I.B.M. plans to deploy consultants to give companies mobile shopping strategies, write mobile apps, crunch mobile data, and manage a company's own mobile assets securely.
Thousands of employees have been trained in mobile technologies, I.B.M. says, and corporate millions will be spent on research and acquisitions in coming years. I.B.M. also announced a deal with AT&T to offer software developers access to mobile applications from AT&T's cloud.
"Mobile is the next big growth play that I.B.M. is going after," said Michael J. Riegel, the head of mobile strategy. He said his company has made 10 mobile-related acquisitions already, and will have a global research and development team of 160 people dedicated to mobile technology. In 2012 alone, he said, I.B.M. won 125 patents related to mobile.
Despite its roots in computer hardware, I.B.M. long ago moved from the business of selling things like personal computers. Much of its business now comes from higher-value work like software creation. Even its big mainframe computers, like the Jeopardy-winning Watson, are usually sold in conjunction with services and software deals.
The push into mobility comes after forays into Web commerce, data analytics and security. In each case, I.B.M. has taken an approach of signing big contracts for large-scale engagements.
By contrast, newer competitors like Google Analytics and Amazon Web Services aim for smaller sales of technologies like analytics or cloud computing, but on a mass level. I.B.M.'s entry into mobile will test whether companies want a large, pervasive approach for this kind of technology.
I.B.M.'s announcement also marks a realization among many companies that employees and customers are accessing corporate data and services via mobile from lots of places, any time of day. This, along with mobile access to cloud computing, is challenging many social and business assumptions.
I am expecting 13D filing by the end of next week. Almost 1 billion shares traded over the prior two weeks. This is definitely the quiet before the storm.
Visa and Chase are implementing QR codes for mobile payments. I think we now know why all of NEOM's shares are being acquired. In addition the QR Council for online electronic online bill paying and mobile payments.
Marriott added that brands like Progressive, Chase and Visa are all implementing QR codes into their marketing initiatives or as a path to purchase. Last month, NeoMedia granted Progressive a non-exclusive license to its patents related to mobile barcode resolution. "We're seeing a huge increase in the number of companies that are licensing that intellectual property," she said. "These companies have significant commitments in mobile barcodes, and it's a nice reassertion in where this industry is headed."

QR codes have seen some traction in the mobile payments space, most notably with Starbucks. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz this week announced that the company's smartphone app, which allows users to pay for items by scanning mobile barcodes, boasts seven million users and processes two million purchases per week.
"I think using QR codes is the future of mobile commerce," said Marriott. "NFC and QR codes can definitely coexist together. Getting them [NFC-enabled devices] in the hands of consumers is an expensive process." She added, "For QR codes you can pay once and not have an incremental cost" for printing additional codes.
As for why mobile barcode adoption in countries like Japan has happened far more quickly, Marriott credits cooperation among Japanese mobile operators to create open standards and universal readers.
"QR codes had a tough start in the U.S. because there is a lot of fragmentation in the market and consumer confusion," she said. Marriott pointed to new efforts like the Quick Response (QR) Encoding for Consumer Bill Pay Guidelines from the Council for Electronic Billing and Payment, issued in December, as ways the mobile barcode industry is becoming more standardized.

Reverse stock split might happen after the stock price gets back to several cents a share. I think it would be huge plus to get the stock over $5/share and get wider institutional ownership.
Wait till the Apple ios 5 deal gets announced! Laura alluded to a deal with Apple in her last article.

One of the largest areas for growth within mobile marketing is mobile ticketing and loyalty programs. With mobile applications such as Apple iOS 5’s “Passbook,” mobile barcodes, including both QR and Aztec codes, are becoming a recognized mobile interaction element for consumers. Given that Passbook is readily available to iPhone users, millions have already become exposed to mobile barcodes through this application, and have really begun to embrace mobile ticketing and mobile loyalty programs as a result.
Sorry Neomedia isn't an online retailer so it's not a legitimate option.
It's not an option on the UPC scans for Amazon.com. It goes there directly with no other choices. Unlike others on this board, I am not buying into the premise this is a software malfunction on the Neorader. At that same time, stock volumes are going through the roof.
Pop - You should read the thread it confirms my statement. The scan feature has been changed and it only goes to Amazon.com for UPC code scans.
Same here. Now I just get an option for searching Amazon when scanning a 1D code.
*I did get the shopsavvy option in the past (after initially running my current update I believe), but have not seen it in a while.
It might be of some interest that when I changed my Country to "United Kingdom" the Amazon search was going through www.amazon.co.uk.
And for grins I tried some other Countries and the amazon search went to the country-specific site.
France -> www.amazon.fr
Germany -> www.amazon.de
Brazil -> www.amazon.com.br
China -> www.amazon.cn
Everyone should try out their Scanner and report back to site.
If I scan anything using NeoReader it automatically puts a link feature to Amazon.com and searches for that item on the site. If thta item isn't available it actually recommends replacement items. At the bottom of that same page there is a place to enter your Amazon acct information. Once completed you scan any item it goes directly to Amazon.com and you can click that item, add directly to your cart and checkout instantly. It takes less than 3 seconds to make purchase.
Last week my scans gave me a listing of online retailers and now you get nothing but Amazon when you use the open feature. In addition, my Amazon account is now built in to this feature directly as well.
Then please explain while all my scans go directly to Amazon.com. I also tried the wife's new Iphone 5 and every scan goes to Amazon when you click the open feature.
Neoreader scans all go directly to Amazon.com. I was just using my scanner on some UPC codes while shopping and suddenly all of the scans go to Amazon.com. Has anyone seen this also? They must have signed some type of deal with Amazon.com. This is why someone is buying up all the stock.
Feb 13th looks like is the new deadline. The court pushed out back the order to force Goldman Sachs to turn over the trading records. It looks like GS was trying to buy themselves a little more time to finalize a deal.

I received two checks todam from Liq Trust totalling $30. I owned preferred and common stocks in 3 separate accounts. I am not sure what these checks are supposed to be for. Also, I didn't think there would be any funds to distribute from the Liq Trust.
Has anyone else looked at the financials posted yesterday?
Personally, I was pretty happy to see the $600MM in cash they have on the books including the $96MM tax receivable.
Qtrly Rep - $492MM cash $96MM tax receivable
Based on yesterday's reporting WMIH has $600MM in cash and no debt. That is $3/share in cash alone. Now you know why people have been accumulating shares before this quarterly report was published.
WMI - Quarterly Summary Report on Monday
Today's press release on the WaMU Liq Trust states that the Quarterly Summary Report should be filed on 07/30/12. I am guessing this explains the accumulation and pop today. I am guessing there will be follow through on Monday will the filing coming after the market close.
That's great but the assets are probably worth about $2B.
