Here is a little background on the WAVX-HP relationship going back to at least 2001:
2001 Apr 13, Wave Systems Corporation has a patented system for E-commerce called EMBASSY. It is a programmable system-in-a-system that enables virtually any platform to serve as a "trusted client." This means that third-party applets can be licensed to run securely inside a hardened EMBASSY on the client side. This puts security, trust, and microtransactional flexibility at the point of consumption. EMBASSY is an enabling technology for the "trusted client" paradigm exemplified by the Trusted Computing Platform Alliance (TCPA) formed by Compaq, HP, IBM, Intel and Microsoft. -24601 (IH14)
2003 Apr 8, AMD, HP, IBM, Intel and Microsoft today announced the formation of a new industry group dedicated to embedding trust and security more broadly into computing platforms and devices. The Trusted Computing Group (TCG) will work to create open standards that can be adopted for use in products and solutions across the spectrum of computing, including PCs, PDAs, servers and digital phones, to enable secure and trusted computing that can protect data, privacy, and individual rights. Wave joined TCG. There were only 11 companies initially invited to TCG, WAVE, being one of them, of course.

2004 Jun 11, The Comodo Group (comodogroup.com), a provider of information security and related services, announced on Thursday that it has been awarded an Exceptional Grant Award by the UK government. Comodo joins IBM (ibm.com), HP (hp.com), Fujitsu (fujitsu.com), Microsoft (microsoft.com), Intel (intel.com) and AMD (amd.com) among others, to form the Trusted Computing Group, a consortium to develop and promote open standards for hardware-enabled secure computing and security technologies. Comodo will focus on setting the architecture and standards for secure input devices.

2006 Nov 20, Wave Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: WAVX) today announced that its EMBASSY(R) Trust Suite (ETS) client software family has been thoroughly tested and certified for use on HP business desktop and notebook PCs with a hardware security chip called a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) that integrates the core elements of trust into the subsystem.
(IHub #133,750, 11/20/06)
2008 Jun 2, Wave Systems announced today that it has accepted an invitation from the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) to assume a permanent seat on its Board of Directors, joining permanent members AMD, HP, IBM, Infineon, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, Sun and Seagate Technology. Wave has also agreed to elevate its membership status to the highest level of TCG “Promoter.” Permanent members of the TCG Board provide guidance to the organization’s work groups in the creation of the specifications to protect PCs and other computing devices from attacks and to help prevent data loss and theft.

It has always bothered me that Wave management holds back reporting Q4 earnings until almost mid March. However, this does have a positive spin in that by mid March management has an excellent view of Q1 direction. Below is an abbreviated summary of WAVX March reports back to 2004. I have bolded the net revenue increases.
2004 Mar 11, Wave Systems Corp. reviewed corporate and industry developments over the past several months and reported results for Q4 and year ended December 31, 2003. For the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2003, Wave Systems reported net revenue principally related to software license contracts of $59,000, compared to revenue of $53,000 for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2002.
(IHub, #33163, 3/11/04)

The old herd is gathering. Must be about time to head for greener pastures.
For long term WAVX shareholders this news is basically neutral. Short term holders, not to mention many long termers, will be glued to their seats at market open on Jan 31 to get a glimpse of market reaction. I am going to go out on a new green limb and suggest the following:
a) There could be positive WAVX news.
b) Safend shareholders looking to sell will pause and watch.
c) Most WAVX holders will pause and watch.
d) If there is no news opening volume will be light and SP might be depressed.
e) If there is good news volume and SP will spike up, but SP will be held back due to Safend and the 8K announcement.
After an hour or so we will see which way the winds are blowing.
Per #3&4 of the sales agreement:
Placements. Each time that the Company wishes to issue and sell Placement Shares hereunder (each, a “Placement”), it will notify MLV by email notice (or other method mutually agreed to in writing by the Parties), a form of which notice is attached hereto as Schedule 1 (a “Placement Notice”), of the proposed terms for such Placement, which shall at a minimum include the number of Placement Shares, the time period during which sales are requested to be made, any limitation on the number of Placement Shares that may be sold in any one Trading Day and any minimum price below which sales may not be made. ..
During the term of this Agreement, neither MLV nor any of its affiliates or subsidiaries shall engage, either directly or indirectly, in (i) any short sale of any security of the Company, (ii) any sale of any security of the Company that MLV does not own or any sale which is consummated by the delivery of a security of the Company borrowed by, or for the account of, MLV or (iii) any market making, bidding, purchasing, stabilization or other trading activity with regard to the Common Stock, or attempting to induce another person to do any of the foregoing, if such activity would be prohibited under Regulation M or other anti-manipulation rules under the Securities Act.
No end to surprises here...
I wonder what base price was set for these market orders (hopefully there is a base price).
At 2.50 per share, 20 million would buy 8 mil shares.
Aside from other market transactions, if 400k of these shares were sold per day at 2.5, it would take 20 days to digest this.
I agree. Today's closing volume may give some indication on whether the Safend selling is drying up. I think volume under 300k would support this.
Some 5.2 million shares from the Safend acquisition just became available for trading in the last 2 days.
It is a good guess that some of these shares are being sold and the increase in volume over the last two days lends support to this. There has been no negative news and positive minutia continue to dribble in.
The sale of Safend shares should significantly abate over the next 2 weeks. Good opportunity to accumulate here IMHO.
Done. One last meow. I needed that!
In these ways the market begins to resemble aspects of quantum physics i.e. sometimes here, sometimes there but always never where you might think it be. Are my shares in the box, out of the box, or just in the hands of MMs, or are they too few to matter as large holders really decide?
Is the market here catching up with string theory and quantum mechanics or leading the way?
Despite the above, I remain optimistic.
WAVX lesson #220701
If that selling took place say a month ago, with a depressive impact on SP, would the current cover have a positive impact now?
See below:
The 5.267 million Safend shares made available today would take about two weeks to trade out at today's rate of some 400k shares per day. With the current potential here I do not expect many Safend share holders to jump ship.
This negative pressure is now fully accounted for and we will quickly see how the market votes.

Very amusing. Short shorts are wonderfully visible.
This news is very significant. The WAVX holders not already tapped out will certainly smile. WAVX holders with cash may add. Today's action was weak due to news that Safend shareholders are now free to sell their shares. By the end of the day it became clear that not that many sold today. I will add a post shortly as to how many additional shares were made available today.
Very nice.
The time mark: "Added: Jan 26, 2012 8:47 am"
makes me wonder about today's market action.
Perhaps just a simple under the radar event. Looking forward to Friday's response.
I think all sensors on this volcano are indicating, to say the least, big pressure building.
Looks like this is all related to the Safend deal:

STX is going to continue to move higher because its encrypted drives will sell like hot cakes in an environment clamoring for computer security. This is not a technical short term play, but worth a long term investment. My post #19 re-invigorated this I-Hub thread on this premisis.

No
I have no timeline for Windows 8.
The last Wave and Windows related entry that I have is:
2010 Nov 4, Wave Systems Corp. announced the availability of Wave(R) BitLocker(R) Manager for Windows(R) 7, a comprehensive set of tools for the central management of Microsoft's native encryption application. Organizations large and small can initialize, configure and administer a global deployment of BitLocker clients without the cost and complexity associated with custom creation of scripts and Active Directory schema extensions. Access recovery and role-based help desk functions can ease the burden on IT, while detailed activity reports and server logs can be essential for compliance -- delivering a secure record of proof that data was protected in the event a PC is lost or stolen.

I believe this would best be done as a combined effort.
By now everybody here has their own interesting WAVX story, filled with expectations, hopes, frustrations and yet to be fulfilled dreams. I urge as many here as possible to at least begin putting together notes for a personal chapter to be considered for a possible book.
Do not worry too much for now about style or grammar or spelling. Just get the story rolling.
Stories due by: 1/12/13.

Very interesting article in this week's Economist on the competition between ARM and Intel. No specific mention of security or Wave, but much room for inferences:

Today’s horoscope (again apropos to WAVX):
It’s hard to admit, but sometimes it takes a pain-in-the-derriere to get to see the value of what you’ve been sitting on.
In support of your "mild" enthusiasm I would like to see TPMs as standard in all Dell computers. "If its good for the gander..."
Also re:
"rapidly headed to the triple digits!"
It would certainly be nice to at least see double digits sometime this year.
On a lighter note:
My horoscope is often prescient in addressing the current situation with WAVX:
Today e.g.
"You resent how long it took to reach a goal, but you'll see it was time well spent when a hit-or-miss prospect becomes a sure thing." Yes indeed!
The messenger is often under-regarded in relation to the message. In this case, however, it appears that your value well balances the value of the message. :)

Volume = 2.6 mil = ~$260
I am surprised by the sudden interest in this nowhere company.

Seagate reported higher than expected results today for Q4.
This should certainly be good for WAVX.
