They gave Kerry KA (duh.. whatever) and Bush took AZ.
Kerry took PA too...
Bush 196 - Kerry 178 ...
Where did Kerry get 66 votes from on CBC?
B
Bush leading in OHio and FLorida...
Two hundred thousand dollars is a lot of money. We're gonna have to earn it.
Man With No Name ... (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly)
The West? Bush is leading in OH, FL, MI and WI... that would give Bush a magic 269. Then you can pick'em with CO or NM where he is leading there..
Nope.. Kalifornea and the freak states won't be need this night..
Blake
Holy cow.. that is almost as shocking as if Kerry won...

(PS: This is great.. election night frivolous banter.. akin to Jeff Greenfield on CNN...)
HA! Mansbridge.. (Always Wendy, his ex-wife).
See CBC is flipping the numbers up and down - like a real election. CNN.. jeez!
Anyways I am all over the place including the Yahoo home page with the map...
B
She was talking about the absentee ballots - there are about 65,000 that need to be counted and the reporting office in Dade county said they could not finish the count until Thursday. So the reporter basically said "the election might not end today.. and we may have to wait until Thursday".
Mania. Noise.
Then they talked about the "lawyers" regarding the polling station issues - of which there have been none.
No drinking.
(And when I posted Dakotas you were suppose to chuckle.. obviously at 6 electorials the Dakotas are useless.. but that was, to me, the icing on the cake for Bush.. taking things a little too serious mate.. relax and enjoy!!)
McCain takes Arizona!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But seriously, CNN is over cautious and a waste of time. Enough of the Vanderbilt guy...
Blake
HA!!!!!!! Anyahoo.. grub 69...
Pickem up.. slowly but surely...
The woman on CNN says "absentee ballets -- about 65000 - and won't be counted til Thursday. So the election may take days to resolve..."
Stupid ass.
Blake
Bush wins both Dakotas!!!!!!!
Funny CBC Newsworld has bush at 162 to 112.
Yet CNN has 102-77.
CNN seems to want to redeem themselves and have stated they want the polls to close before declaring winners.
Anyways.. start the music...

Dumped NGX @ 1.96 -20%??

ARQ next I guess..
Matches the weather in Toronto I am sure...
But if I had a dime for every time I heard about "tied votes having to be settled in court" I would be richer than playing the market. I have heard that crap so much I know it will NOT be that close.
And yes, tonight when I have wings, I will be having a few freedom fries and smother them with some Kerry....

CNNfn Network to Close by Mid-December
Timing to do with the election.. hmmm... btw: Wolf is running the Election out of the Nasdaq center...
NEW YORK (Reuters) - CNNfn, the financial news cable network owned by Time Warner Inc., on Thursday said it will cease operating by mid-December after fighting a losing battle against far larger rival CNBC.
The network, launched in 1995, competed for viewers as U.S. interest in the financial markets surged, but it failed to garner wide distribution on the largest U.S. cable operators.
CNNfn is distributed in about 30 million of 100 million U.S. homes. CNBC, owned by General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal division, is available in about 86 million homes, and 200 million worldwide.
"Exponential growth in the television marketplace since CNNfn's 1995 launch has made it challenging to grow distribution for many niche networks in today's highly competitive landscape," Jim Walton, president of the CNN news group, said in a letter to employees on Thursday.
About 50 of CNNfn's 110 employees will remain at the company. About 60 employees will be offered an opportunity to reapply for other jobs within the CNN news group. Executives said separately, about 100 news jobs will be posted at the CNN group, part of it driven by planned changes at its Headline News channel.
Viewers' fascination with financial markets cooled after the bull-market hype of the late 1990s was replaced by reports of white-collar criminal convictions.
CNNfn retooled its focus in 2003 to appeal to individual investors, ceding the role of breaking business news to CNBC. It began running a stock ticker that was delayed for 20 minutes.
Despite turning its first profit last year, under executive vice president Kenneth Jautz's leadership, competitive pressures never ceased.
News Corp.'s Fox News cable network is also mulling plans to launch a business news network on the heels of its top-rated business news show, "Your World with Neil Cavuto."
Walton said CNN will continue to operate the CNNMoney Web site (http://money.cnn.com). "Lou Dobbs Tonight" and "In The Money" shows will continue to air on CNN, Walton said. CNNfn programming, including "Open House" and "Dolans Unscripted," will move to the company's other networks.
On a conference call with reporters, executives said they planned to aggressively look at making programming available via video-on-demand and the Internet in addition to running some shows on CNNfn's two sister networks, CNN and CNN Headline News.
Executives said they are now in discussions with cable operators on how to fill the distribution vacuum left by the shutdown of CNNfn.
Walton said one scenario might be offering more international programming. International programs were broadcasted on CNNfn during the weekends.
One cable industry source said a new channel offering am international news channel from CNN would likely help it expand into more homes.
"Many of the (cable) operators might like to have more international programming going forward," Walton said.

Funny thing happened on the way to the opera....
(You happen to have me posting on a happy day -- esp after seeing the jewel at Costco last night for the first time)...
First I have membershits at Sams and Costco. To me Costco is "THE" best in the business regarding warranties - without question. Next is Wal-mart.
The problem with Sams - they sell a lot of "old" and/or "US" junk. Both Costco/Sams buy stuff and can sell you the goods without manufacturer warranties. That can be good or bad. Once I was looking for a mini-stereo system - Pioneer sold one - 1 year warranty. Costco sold that same unit, but with 2 years - why? Because Costco bot without warranty and told me if there are problems you take it to a shop on Danforth Ave. (they bot their own warranty and upsold the unit with an extra year).
SAMs doesn't allow you to use VISA/MC/AMEX - so you can't take advantage of the "x2" warranty with those cards. With Costco I have an AMEX that does provide extra warranty. The problem though lies in the warranty. My visa gives me "x2" the manufacturer's warranty. Not good if Costco bot without - and the manufacturer would know because their records would show it was bot at Costco. Anyways - you can see issues that you have to manage.
Anyways to your question. Every optical device is crap. Remember that and make your buying decisions based on that. Worse? Like insurance sometimes you may have to PROVE to someone there are problems.
My first Sony 5 disc had problems playing, of all things one of the 10,000 different versions available of "Queen's Greatest Hits". Happened on the outer tracks. Took it to Sony (3year warranty) and they replaced the optics (that cost they said, was worth - about the cost of the unit).
I bot a Samsung Combo unit for my PC - DVD ROM and CDR/CDRW burner. My problem has been - you burn a disc and the app may or may not do a verify. But regardless of doing a verify - EVERYTHING IS FINE. So you go to read it, and there are errors. (!!!). I use a program (see earlier posts of mine) "Beyond Compare" to verify the discs - always. Does a byte-to-byte. And yes on the one side are stacks of written CDs that were "successful" in their burn, and on the other side are a stack of those same successful burns, with byte-to-byte failure (byte-to-byte is best, but simply put - if you cannot copy the entire CD back to your HD, the disk (or parts) are bad. Byte-to-byte doesn't require copying but simulates that. So I prefer just doing a simple compare using this app).
Had the unit swapped with the manufacturer (I had to MAIL it in for $7). They shipped me back a lower end unit, I had them pay the return costs - they shipped me a better one. Does it ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS work today? Nope. But then neither did the Aopen "CD burner only" I bot when I started developing problems with the 6mth old Samsung. Something after a while happens - after a number of consecutive burns, for me, that discs start screwing up (again - the are SUCCESSFUL BURNS but start failing when you actually try to verify/use them). The last time it worked ALL the time was with my "4x" Yamaha SCSI writer years ago. I think the speeds are so fast and the heat is so high, they fail a lot.
Now if you buy from Futureshit - you can either take a chance and after a year deal with your Visa insurance company - you ship the unit to the manufacturer (your cost) - they have to deem it to be a problem (maybe it is - maybe it isn't).
Within the Year - does Futureshit do a swap for you? What if you pay $40-60 for their extra warranty? Compusmart will sell you a unit and it costs about $20 for a swap (again when do they swap - these failures are not 100% of the time - I can burn 10 in a row one night with no failures, then the next night burn 5 - and it is bad, 6th, 7th 8th and 9th are bad - by this time I say F'IT!).
Costco?
Last night I saw they are selling two units by HP and AOpen.
Both units are (save for software and one company is run by a chick) the same.
4GB - 16x (DVD+R) ;8x (DVD-R) (DVD-RW/+RW) blah blah for DVD writing (4GB)
CD writing and DVD ROM READING.
8GB - DUAL LAYER at 2.4X*
-- AOpen is $119 and HP is $139
-- 1 year warranty - IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER YOU PACK IT UP IN THE BOX, AND RETURN IT TO COSTCO WITHIN THE YEAR AND THEY RETURN YOUR MONEY
-- $119 is probably reasonable for such a unit - but the upshoot is - when it does - toss it and buy the NEXT FASTER unit instead of bothering with warranties. But at least I have peace of mind for 1 year that I can get my money back. If I can get my AMEX to cover the 2nd year - that might be a bonus, but I won't not buy it if this isn't the case.
-- * By the time the dual layer discs are affordable, I am sure the unit will be out of warranty -- but then I will buy a 32-48x DVD writer and a 16x DUAL --- RIGHT?
So I ask you --- Croesus I (btw: I am Sexton Blake the I, my Son is Sexton Jr - if my 2nd son names his son after me, it would be Sexton II; if my first names his son after me, it would be Sexton III) --- why would you buy anything from anywhere else other than Costco?
100% fact - I have had issues with products and Costco backed their words with the cash. But I haven't tested nor asked Sams - so the jury is still out with them. And guess what - Costco employees are LIFERS - and are the best in my books. They don't sit there and hook up a unit to a CPU and test it. They listen to the story and before you are done, they are asking for your bill and how do you want your money back!
So within the next couple of months I will buy that AOPEN. Sams sells 50Memorex (DVD+R or DVD-R) for $37 (I have had most success with that brand of CDRs and nothing but headaches with TDKs -- I will never buy TDK again - and I use to say that about Memorex!).
(And don't ask about what DVD+R or DVD-R is - I haven't got there yet - my gut says the lower speed variety works on most devices .. but I have to read about it first -- unless you know?)
Cheericus..
Blakicus I
EDICUS: Alternatively look for the cheapest 8X SINGLE Layer unit you can get. Costco I don't think sells any now. About $70-80 nowadays? To me the headache with optics - worth getting it at Costco and $120 is good -- if not a little cheaper by Xmas.
Don't buy another drive - spend your $$ on a cheap-o DVD writer and offload it all! I am making a dent, finally, after years of downloading. I have gigs upon gigs left, but at least it is coming off. Then in a few years, when you are retired, and there isn't anything out there in trading world to tickle your fancy, you can start going through the DVDs and categorizing etc.
But we do agree on one point.. SUCK TED DRY!!!!!!!!! ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Ted listening to my cell calls.

Today I had an agent of Ted in my home. Nice guy. He took one look at my setup and almost fainted. I guess most of his customers are a little less tech savvy (meanwhile I feel I am low on the pole myself).
Anyways, I planned his visit for optimal effect. I was able to get the main splitter (2 way then feeds off into a 3 way) and the main area where the TV/CPU are connected w/2 way -- updated. He gave me a new "3 way" at the box, then a new "2 way" at my TV/CPU - gave me a few patch cables - and checked the signal in the kitchen and bedroom. Saves a second service call under the heading "wiring" (this was "high-speed internet install").
Anyways, the net is installed. Read HERE for the news changes I was inferring. According to Newsbinpro, I am getting those numbers (256Kbps) (Newsbinpro gives you that number plus "KBps" - I am sure the various measures were the marketing side of computers). You are allowed 2 channels for downloading - and Newsbinpro gives you that ability where Agent (the one I love and use 247) does not. Maybe down the road. The point is - I am hitting the MAX speed for the newsgroups - therefore, it appears my speeds are back to what they were summer 2003.
Kastelco: Easynews is still far faster by far (even with DSL) than this - but 10GB for $10US/mth - is just a bit more than I want to spend. As long as I queue my jobs up, ensure my HD has space, I will just let this run 247. So it takes a day versus 4 hours, I am not sitting on this all the time so that should suffice. But I was getting about 14-16GB/mth with the promotions they had. I would never hesitate to give them my business again.
As long as retention is excellent with Ted, then the speed is not a huge factor. But last year - I was queuing stuff up and by the time it got down a bit on the list - the post was gone (because my speed was pathetic). Further - if the stuff craps out you don't want to remember it a day later and lose the post.
Bonus for you NNTP L0VERS out there..

"They" "Them" "Not us" say that the people in the west don't vote because they already see what has happened out east. I just wanted to see the "% of population" that voted. Say 20% in Ontario and 10% in the west, for example.
Or maybe you are talking about the PM's and that either K.TO or ARQ.V would have been a good buy - since they will all move.
I think you meant the former.
Later.. also was watching Hawaii-Five-O (they actually use a derogatory slang for a chinese person.. back then it was the normal course of things..)

Your link shows percents but doesn't show actual voter turnout...

I said:
across the US and across Canada does not count
You said:
Of course it counts.
I say:
NO it does not. If it did the west coast would always vote. And you and I know by the time it gets there - if there is a landslide, the vote is moot. BC and CA have "some say" maybe -- but HI and AK have ABSOLUTELY ZERO say.
Perhaps you are going way over my head with something that is out there or we are talking about two different things. Popular only matters within "riding" or "state". Outside of that it is pointless. I thought 2000 Gore had the popular but lost the electoral.
Regardless, it makes no difference to me - if you want to continue - then pretend you are from Alaska or Hawaii and explain to me how your vote counts.
..its easy if you try..
imagine all...
Blake (Prisoner 275)
Thought about this a bit and your statement is limited.
The popular vote only determines "who the electoral can vote for". But the popular is limited to the state only. One or two states have 2 electorials and actually split the vote according to the popular.
But my point was that the popular alone, across the US and across Canada does not count. If there was no electoral college - then the candidates would spend a lot more time in Kaliforneea and Florida to win the Hispanic vote -- for that matter Texas, New York and other "high populated states". But as it stands, the most to win or lose is the maximum electoral votes. And how often do the candiates visit the freak states? (Hawaii and Alaska).
Likewise in Canada - assuming that Quebec + Ontario had the same number of seats as the combined total of the rest of Canada, and everyone in Quebec and Ontario voted for Bloc, and everyone else voted Liberal, we would have a tie - even though we out number the rest of Canada. (Not fair because I love Ted and I love the Bloc).
Off to prison.. cheers!

But the best part is they have screwed themselves in the process. Not because of two sites, but because SOB can live happily on iHUB and pay nothing. And that is the weak point in the strategy. Meanwhile, they now have adopted a similar strategy on SI. (which is why I ponied up -- before they only allowed you to read.. so there is actually even LESS incentive to pay).
A bad model - that is the problem.
Stress is wondering where I heard that line... and I figured it out just now.. Spike's "Do the right thing" -- The Mayor said that. Funny one there.. my wife always complains how white people steal all the black people's stuff (gold; music; women). Anyways what is funny, is that in that movie "Radio Raheem" wears a "LOVE" and "HATE" pair of brass knuckles then talks about how HATE is conquered by LOVE in a story. So we were watching a movie with Gregory Peck - old one - and he is some crazy guy - he is talking to someone and written on his fingers are "LOVE" and "HATE". He then goes through the story ... THAT SAME STORY that Spike lifted.
No stress.. now ... lets make lots of money!
Blake
I see that is an Asian saying (proverb) - but I did hear that on a movie or somethihng..
Both SI and iHUB have fixed amounts but you can edit the amounts.
An old trick I use on iHUB, during Happy Hour (when I am treated like a customer) is to go to the forum I want. Right-Click COPY on the "Next" button. Paste it at the top, then adjust he "10" to "100". And repeat. I would open like 15 tabs in my browser that way - each with "100". Then just read at my leisure even though Happy hour had timed out. Caught up pretty quickly on some forums - especially when a lot is noise.
Works on SI as we speak..
Blake
Ahem
1) I am not a millionaire. If I had 1/2 of that I might actually think about retiring (hopefully by age 40 - 45 though). (mainly because it would mean I was VERY VERY VERY VERY good at trading to get to that amount)
2) If I were to support anyone, it would first be http://ciut.fm/ (communist propaganda and all).. and not just because they afford the FM domain.
3) Yes I have made a pretty good coin off of Suncor and Acclaim. But I am also supporting those Albertan beef farmers. I have been eating my share of MCD meat (Mad cow disease and Mc Donald's ticker) - Dominion has 2 for 1 T-Bones - I have bot between 12-15 packs (x2) - and not just the $10 but the $15-20 pairs. I don't mind - we Ontarians have to help with the cause. Even if it means our lying prick of a PM has to pay to have our stomachs pumped to get rid of that bad meat.
But thanks for the info.. I always like to listen to "alternative" radio.. and may like a program or two. Toronto has a couple of good Island programs (Calypso etc) plus some Ska when I am in the mood.

(Yes I am free on iHUB and that is more than sufficient. I don't read much so the "next next next" instead of >1 at a time isn't so bad. I already complained to Matt - and said "why not give SI lifer's a break and give us a cheaper iHUB lifetime (and vise versa for iHUBbers)." Needless to say, he never responded to my PM).
Hey Kirby..
I was fucked over by Ted -- and I think I like it.
I thought Royal Bank were the biggest nickle and dimers out there.. but I think Ted (who has Madd Dawg in his basement away from Billie) is pretty high up there.
Here is how it went down:
- My Original 10% VIP had to be given up in order get Digital. I couldn't even "try" Digital without losing the VIP.
- Losing the 10% VIP meant I will never get 10% off cable. In otherwords, if I don't like Digital anymore - I cannot just have plain cable (all of it) and get 10% off
- VIP means I get the 1st Digital box for free (*Read the scam below)
- Just as I go to change plans I determine that they have screwed people with VIP Digital over by removing the Specialty Channels. To get those you must get the "ULTIMATE" VIP which gives you MOVIES and Specialty Channels. Otherwise to get all the specialty costs $37.99 (HA!)
- So VIP today gives me ZERO discounts on cable (but I get a free digital box*) plus 10% off Wireless and 10% off Internet.
- I read about the new 15% choose your own bundle crap. That is a load. You have to commit to 2years (but it appears you can move vertically within the tier - I could still get 15% off and not have digital)
- If I get internet with Rogers, and want to bundle TV + CELL and not Internet, I lose the 10% off the internet. The other two are 15% off each service
- So I read the 15% and notice something about the 15% off the cell plan is "BASE PLAN AND AIRTIME ONLY". Egads did I screwup royally? Can't be. I figure the Digital VIP says the same thing.. my original VIP gave me 10% off ALL WIRELESS COSTS not just a base plan.
- I review my old bills (another scam - I get them electronically.. stupid ass SOB doesn't look at them.. and SOB Ted and Co do a number). Up to Oct 2003 I get 10% off the entire wireless plan. Then Nov 2003 - it goes down to $4.50. What is that? That is my "BASE PLAN of $45". The guys changed the "contract" IMO. I called and the woman said "it was an error in the system and they corrected it". Imagine - Ted is losing on an $80/mth package - about $2-4/subscriber per month for YEARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRS!!. LIES!!! That is fraudulent. But we are talking from November to now - so that is $36 to worry about? No idea how to handle that issue but I will not bother.
So where are we?
#1 - Picked up last Tuesday a digital box (now in the bedroom)
#2 - Friday I picked up a PVR unit ($19.99 + $1.99 service fee - that is the scam that ensures that even if you buy the box - you are forced to pay $1.99 still). The stuff is so new - contains an 80GB harddrive. I would never think of buying that. RENT!
#3 - Rogers enters my domain Tuesday PM to install Rogers Internet Express (same as yours). I have cancelled my Easynews ($10US/mth) service as of today (YOUR statement of improved service since our problems last year + hearing Rogers adopted Giganews = GOOD DEAL). So I will be software/movie/porn and music free for 1 1/2 days (I am already itching). That is a funny one - FutureShit offered 1st month free plus $100 gift card. Their ad mentions nothing about $39.99 - so I have submitted their ad to the advertisement council for review (misleading consumers). There is actually a website for that: http://www.adstandards.com/en/standards/submission.asp
So I opted for Rogers online -- I get 3mths at $24.95 plus $10 rebate. With F*****Shit, I had to commit to 6mths. Not with Rogers online. So I will try it out a few months before deciding what to do with Bell. If Bell supported Newsgroups - I would keep them. But Kastelco said the newsgroups are far faster with Rogers. So we will see.
My reasoning for the PVR
- you can watch tv or watch tv w/PIP (poor with PIP.. but it works)
- you can watch 1 and record another program
- you can record up to 2 programs and watch nothing
- you can record up to 2 programs and watch a prerecorded program
For $22 I think they are still giving them away to get people encouraged to use them. I figure it is worth the money. The digital out into the VCR is a pain in the neck. And it was giving us problems. Handling tapes has been a sore point. Hundreds of tapes unlabled (except the kind I watch late at night.. when no one is watching.. those are labeled jussssstttt right - yeah baby). If the PVR works out fine - I probably will return the other digital box (they credit you "$8.95" so technically the single box being PVR = $11 + $1.99)
Lot of time for TV? Nahhh.
My wife watches a fair bit - she stays at home until the little one hits grade 1 - a few years off. She wanted some of the specialties - she likes Court TV (don't ask). Part of this whole digital stuff is - Ted is screwing us over. The cost to flip in a digital box is around the same -- not including the specialty; movies or PVR. So I say .. why not? For $2 more I get another set of US stations from the west - don't have to put up with Buffalo BS. I may opt for more stuff.. we may get by on the extra US stations and 5 specialties. We automatically get the Canadian Timeshifting included. It just made sense. I can always take away stuff and still will have more than we had. Granted not every TV .. but...
Rogers SCAM -- they "include" in our VIP service the digital box as a discount (they say that so they can ream you easier in the future). But what is funny - they do not discount BOXES -- yet when you sign up for the bundle (15% off) - they are actually discounting the entire bundle (which includes the box) at 15%. That is technically wrong based on their statements of not giving you discounts on equipment.
The Digital stuff is "ok". I heard a lot from my brother - the first night I turn it on, there I am - what a stupid ass -- watching what was on - "The Brady Bunch" - the episode when the maid hears the children talking bad about her and she wants to leave. Funny part in that one - Mike (the gay husband), says "I know why Alice wants to leave.. ever since we merged our families together, we never gave her a raise - that has got to be it - she is now cooking for two families". (Of course she says that isn't the reason). Only in America folks!!!
Anyways I almost called Kastelco to dig up the Boss and play "50Million stations and nothin on". Yes a lot of it is crap. But the problem is - we are in that "for just a little more". I have all the cable today, so why not spend a bit more and get the digital. We don't go to movies - the trend in the US is to wait for the DVD - cheaper than going to the movies. Next is to improve our TV and sound. I think this is a step in that direction.
I have found the quality to be a bit "washy" and some of the west coast stations are poor due to the feed. My buddy has ExpressVu - I want to visit and see how that is. Bell rents a PVR for $30. That one gives you what Rogers does, but also TWO remotes - one for UHF - so I can have that in the bedroom and then just run a cable from the living room to it. Technically that is enough TODAY. We are either in the living room or bedroom or kitchen. So as long as I can get each of those with a dupe from the PVR - I am fine.
Louis mentioned "broadcasting" TV. Well I found it. Here we only have 2.4GHz but in the US they are already selling a 5.8GHz -- with remote extender. Remote extenders alone are $90 here.
http://www.avtechsolutions.com/s_vavs5811.htm
Now if that could have 1 TRANSMITTER and more than 1 RECEIVER. That would be great. This would help with the "wiring" plus get us to the bedroom and perhaps the basement - still with one digital box - they sell remotes that work on these - so that isn't a problem. I can actually get the TV in the kitchen to work and aim the remote to the living room without an extender.
So I figure
(A) it is good to try out the PVR - if we like it and we do go to ExpressVu we could just get their unit;
(B) I could lock into rogers 15% plan - CELL+TV only though (forego the $5 savings with Internet not to be tied);
(C) I could always ratchet the tier down - get ExpressVU for two TVs and Rogers for the rest of the house (at a lower price);
Regular TV alone isn't enough for us. Being able to record stuff we want is far more important. Now I can watch Oprah (bad for men) at 7:30 -- that is worth the price of admission.. and still watch Jeopardy at 1030pm if Marketcall sucks.. or tape market call at 10PM and watch it at 1130 after Nightly Business report.. blah blah blah.
But in the end.. we are renting this stuff. So I am not tied down and forced to love Ted. One thing though (HA!! just ONE he says!!).. loyalty is out the window - go for the deals and services that make sense. My VIP only saves me about $9/mth. So juggling that into the 15% savings and going for ExpressVu isn't the end of the world. When the Cell was $9 and the internet was $5 and cable was about $4 - that was a bit more. And none of this "future" crap either. If I need more channels for the boys - so I decide then on what to do -- buy a box - rent a box.. whatever. But for today, I am a lot closer to doing what we want and being happy with it. Rogers still has the advantage of "analogue" throughout the house whereas ExpressVu isn't. But if I can bundle the stuff at 15% off - and still have Rogers (basic + CNN) + ExpressVu - the cost probably is minor compared to what "we want".

#1 Got my Elder book you mentioned, last week -- Amazon is a joke. They tell you it takes 2 weeks to order via their "free shipping". I got it within 3 business days. I have a site that keeps track of $5 off coupons if you wanted it..
#2 I picked up from the Library couple of weeks ago "Trade your way to financial freedom" by Van Tharp. Not sure if you read it. Pretty good so far. Talking about objectives, goals, thinking about a system to use etc. Section on money management - entry to and exit from the market - but I am not there yet. I like the book because minute one isn't about "follow these indicators" to make money. More on the thinking and planning side instead of merely the execution. A huge sore point for me. A funny part I just read was "plan for the unexpected". He made mention of an asteroid crashing between the US and Europe. What would we do? Think about it and run over the scenario in your head. Well that is far fetched - but then again, the book was written in 1999. Imagine - if we would have thought about "what if a terrorist strike happens in the US?".. Interesting.
When done I will read Elder's.
#3 Also picked up from the RHPL - Pring's Market Momentum. Good too - but on the T/A mostly.
Sorry for the novel.. I am venting.. but you asked.. I love Ted. I love Ted. I love Ted. Wonder when he will tap into the Water; Hydro and Gas markets.. I love Ted.
Cheers Kirby!

HA! I thought we were suppose to talk freely..
Hey.. it isn't like we are talking about specific points of politics. This all affects us with our investments.
Sorry Smorry... so long as we get rich!

EDIT: Dang Back Button.COM
They also stated on the program that Bush has about 277 electoral votes (needs 270).
(Yes I ignore "popular" vote - not sure where you hail from, but the only election where we can vote for the leader is the in the municipal. BY LAW we are not allowed to vote for Premier of the Province (eqv State Governor) nor the PM of Canada (eqv President) - we have a Senate but we have zero say in that too. So popular vote does not even count here either. Shit at least in Russia they get bread for free...).
No idea where you got will win by 10-30 electoral college votes. That isn't a small difference but a big sway.
I think you are entering the delusion phase - your Mac is giving off bad fumes... silently... (LOL!)

Grab and Maul: Saturday Edition: China
This weekend our paper had chinese writing on it. After swearing a bit and trying to find the phone to tell someone they delivered the wrong paper, it was determined that the Grab & Maul has a major feature with "Focus on China".
Even more freaky -- we had Chinese take-out Friday night..
Here is the link... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/china
Question: Have the covers denoted a TOP?
This falls into the category of "cover story" mania.
- Business Week's last "cover" (non-international cover) on China was in Oct 28, 2002 - but that was on "High Tech in China".
- Time's last cover - appears to be on "SARS" - May 5, 2003
.. IMO not enough to call a TOP though..

Capital Gang: Bush the winner...
I was watching Capital Gang (you know the Geritol crowd) on CNN.
Some of the sound bites:
- Kerry has no message and unless he gets one quick it is over
- People are beyond the health care message from Kerry (already he has those voters) - yet we are supposedly in "dead heat"
- Internal polls suggest opinion is over 50% for Bush, and that he will win based on that
- Apparently Clinton to help out the DEMs - yet instead of starting in the South, where Kerry needs severe help, he is starting in Philly - a blunder by those running the campaign. You'd think he would start in Arkansas - where the kids have sex with their sister's daddy..
Bush unfortunately, like his daddy he is president at thw wrong time with the economy not doing so hot, market down and in the middle east.
But the consensus still is - Bush will win.
Whenever I hear "we might have a tie like in 2000" .. that is also enough to say "yeah, ok - you believe that". Hype and noise.
Anyways that was enough for me.. and I am typically not swayed so easily...
Blake
Other than hindsight, what would be your reasoning for entry at 1.11? Just based on "SAR" or something else? Because when I look at that graph, I see nothing that compells me to enter at that price.
Enquiring minds...

Thanks for the info Kirby..
Can't believe the breakout in RIMM, but there it is showing how the pumping is working.
LOL! Only after talking to you one-on-one can I actually visualize you saying that. I too have been watching that for a while. Have they gained that many subscribers to the bloody thing to warrant that rise? Good assessment Bob.
OT: I was reviewing my cable options and was told, when I called for questions on Friday, that Rogers was offering a new plan of "pick 2 or 3 for 15% off" - what a deal "Jerry" said. It sounded impressive but I told the guy "gotta see the print" and I am just enquiring. So tonight I strolled over to Ted's place and found they did a number alright:
- jacked up the top tier VIP Digital w/Movies by $3
- removed "6 Specialty Themes" from the regular VIP - so if you want all specialties you have to get the top tier VIP Digial w/Movies now
- eliminated the bundling as it was before
- "2 or 3 - 15% off" is actually a great promo if you don't mind being stuck with a 2 year lock in. These things are alluring but.. I can see buying into a contract for Gas or Hydro, but to pin me down on my Internet? Hard hard call. Everyone wants you handcuffed these days.
Sorry Ted not this time - not yet. Today I still have "by the second" billing on my cell plus I am with the old "VIP - save 10%". The guy at Rogers just about sold me on upgrading to the new VIP which gives you a free cable box - but I when I asked about losing the 10% he almost convinced me I wasn't losing that.
But I must be stupid - RIGHT?
The VIP Cable program has changed to this new offer of a discounted digital terminal rental for VIP customers. The new VIP program is called Digital VIP. As an existing VIP Cable customer, you have the option of keeping your 10% discount on your cable or switching to the new Digital VIP program. If you opt for the new VIP program, you will no longer receive your 10% discount on cable. However your other VIP program discounts remain unchanged.
Well when I crunch the numbers today, I actually have determined my "save 10%" isn't so bad after all. I can emulate the top tier VIP Digital - if I take only 10 or 15 specialty channels (mostly crap amyways). But under my scheme, if I add a PVR or second/third box - I save 10% - whereas you don't with the new scheme.
Gotta hand it to Ted - they certainly pump out confusing stuff alright - from their offerings to their bills - you need a PhD in Rogology to figure these out. And he got me actually. I was so "laid back" on getting my bills electronically, and having them paid, automagically, that I almost missed the "premature removal" of my free 25Minutes (for pre-authorized payment) - back in July when they jacked up the voice mail and call display options a $1 each. I have had it re-added - but still. Gotta keep on your toes with Teddy.
Anyways, me thinks if they are saying "over here boy" trying to get me to flip my VIP, there must be something heavy duty coming down the pipes.. a trickle now.. so I think I will hold on just a bit more tightly...
Cheers - 1984 friends.. and Ted is watching what we watch.. visiting the sites we visit and listening to those we listen to... (and uh oh his latest plans mimic Bell with a $5 LD plan..)

(Don't worry FP - Jimmy Shaw Jr isn't but a stone throw away.. he partly made is mark right here in Richmans Hill and Markham - before giving up this primo NA real estate to grab that BC territory in the swap.. to this day I figure that was a colossal blunder..)
Amazing how a little bit-o-news can turn an otherwise average day into the royal toilet.
And what is even more funny, I was at work and saw this. My bloody brain somehow didn't see "AQI" but instead "ARQ". Did a lookup and ARQ was down 2 cents or something.
So what comment caused it to nose dive?...
The Scoping Study includes the use of Inferred Mineral Resources that are considered too speculative geologically to have economic considerations applied to them that would enable them to be categorized as Mineral Reserves. Therefore, there is no certainty that the results predicted by this Scoping Study will be realized. This report also speculates on the impact of exploration success on the project economics. This speculation is intended to provide Aquiline Resources Inc. with direction for future exploration only.
So these things are too speculative are they? LOL!
I was this close - about one more push up.. as Hudson in Aliens said..
"Oh, man. And I was gettin' short, too! Four more weeks and out. Now I'm gonna buy it on this fuckin' rock. It ain't half fair, man!"
Chuckle! Or is that...
Check out the site..
(BTW: If nothing else if any of you do happen to visit the site - mind the version of "please wait".. LOL!)
Anyahoo, thanks FP..

HA! I wonder if that is a first... posting a link to the previous message..
I was able to pickup at the library today, incidently, "Martin Pring on Market Momentum" -- already have his TA Explained - and thought that was good. A pretty good read on ROC; Stochastics, RSI, ADX (Welles did the latter two) plus a bunch more.
The directional movement and ADX are pretty "complex" formulas - but this book happens to go through it step by step. (If only to confirm all the formulas I have so far).
Will read up -- munch through it -- and reply with some pertinent info. Pring does dish up his own interpretation of ADX and/or DMI.
Two things:
(A) I have already picked this book up a few times today and have read quite a bit - if nothing else, at least I will learn a lot about momentum. One of my tasks shortly will be to start going through stocks with a number of basic indicators and just "looking" how they all playout amongst themselves.
(B) From the book..
The idea of "smoothing" an ROC indicator at least once opens up a whole series of possible variations. These include choosing time spans for specific ROC indicators, picking various time spans for the smoothing, and, of course, deciding whether to smooth once, twice, three times, and so forth. Obviously, the potential combinations are innumerable. I would add, though, that it is wise philosophy to keep things as simple as possible. Most people believe that they will not be successful unless they try out as many possibilities and combinations as they can. In the days when calculations were done with pen and paper these possiblities were limited, but in the age of powerful personal computers, it is very easy to toy with a thousand variations looking for the perfection that I guarantee you does not exist. In my view the better approach is the simple and thoughtful one: Spend your time and effort on studing and analysis.
Well we know that Frank doesn't post a chart with lots and lots of indicators. And posted to me here on the couple he looks at. I am still observing. I definitely don't want 4 or 6 indicators if 1/2 of them tell me X and 1/2 tell me Y. I look at Stockcharts - the public ones. Green as I am, looking at some of them - sure they add comments to the main pricing area - but to have so many indicators - used in such a time frame - seems like noise.
Here is one public chart set called (AHEM - no relation to CD) Ride the Precious Metals Bull! Link to charts HERE ... ANO (Anooraq) is charted on Page 5...
OT: Anyone out there do much with GANN charts? Read something on it elsewhere.
Anyahoo, I agree though - specifically with "study and analyse".
