Drinks Americas plays the Trump Card
http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/01/02/drinks-americas-plays-the-trump-card/
Posted Jan 2nd 2007 11:01AM by Zac Bissonnette
If you read my recent post about the bestselling personal finance books of 2006, you know that I dislike Donald Trump. I think that there are serious questions about his abilities as a businessman (almost going bankrupt) and his narcissistic, self-aggrandizing personality really irritates me. Only my desire to see yuppies sleeping in tents will drive me to watch the new season of The Apprentice. However, I have a grudging respect for Trump's success in selling himself and developing his name into a brand in industries including real estate, restaurants, casinos, clothing and now, vodka.
As millions of Americans anxiously await the beginning of the sixth season of The Apprentice next Sunday (January 7th), the national roll-out of "Trump Super Premium Vodka" is well underway. Investors looking to cash in on the hype of America's most obnoxious mogul may want to look at DKAM, the maker of the new Trump Super Premium Vodka.
While the product has not been rolled out nationally, yet, the initial results are impressive. From the company's 10Q filed December 20th:
"Net sales were $2,577,450 for the six months ended October 31, 2006 compared to net sales of $830,820 for the six months ended October 31, 2005, an increase of 210%. The increase is due to the sales of Trump Super Premium Vodka which commenced in the last month of the second quarter of fiscal 2007. "
And those results only included New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Georgia. Put another way: the company's sales were up 210% for the quarter because the Trump Vodka was being sold in eight states for one month (less in some of those states). The 10-Q goes on to say that they expect to have the product rolled out nationally by February of 2007. And there's good news on the margins too:
Gross margin was $1,116,227 for the first half of fiscal 2007(43.3% of net sales) an increase of $890,199 compared to gross margin of $226,028(27.2% of net sales) for the first half of fiscal 2006. Both the dollar increase and percentage increase in gross profit can be attributed to the sale of Trump Super Premium Vodka. Trump Super Premium Vodka is sold at a substantially higher gross margin than our other products.
So the story here is that sales are exploding because of a new product which has gross margins that are more than 15% higher than their previous product assortment. And The Donald, with his penchant for self-promotion, also appears excited about the product (although he himself does not drink): "a great friend of mine was a founder of Grey Goose. And what we're trying to do is top it. I want to top them just because it's fun to top my friends."
With the national roll-out and a new season of the Apprentice about to start (could Trump Vodka be featured on it?), there appear to be no shortage of short-term catalysts for this stock. But the stock is not without its drawbacks: the company has a negative net worth and negative working capital, and lacks a history of profitability. The stock has also more than tripled since September, and its market cap of 116 million dollars is more than I would usually pay for an unprofitable company with a negative book value. But the insider ownership numbers say something about management's faith in the company: According to the most recent 10-K, CEO J. Patrick Kenny owns 23%. The Chairman of the Board, Bruce Klein, owns 17.8%, and has loaned money to the company to fund working capital needs when times are tight. All together, the company's board members and management own 52.7% of the company's shares. Clearly this is a company where management's interests are aligned with the interests of shareholders: we will both benefit from a rise in share-price.
Because the product is so new it's hard to forecast how much it will earn Drinks Americas. But as a story stock, there are tons of reasons that I think DKAM will trade higher in the weeks and months to come. And with Bacardi paying 2 billion dollars for the Grey Goose brand, if the Trump vodka is successful (so far it is), DKAM may be undervalued on fundamentals too.
Zac Bissonnette is long shares of Drinks America (DKAM).
droy24, I know that place, been there a couple of times for their great wine selection. I assume we're selling in southern CA now.

Yes…I will post what I have I promise. I hope this will dispell all the nonsense I have been reading about myself. For people who don’t know me, a lot of you sure have a whole lot to say about me. I have told the lawyers they have four hours to review the financials and my statement. I will post what I have before opening. Once this is done, I would really like to get back to the business of running the company.
Thank you Stock H.O.G., let's hope. eom

I love it; our holding since LFWK days will pay off soon. /eom
what's funny is that they don't allow online buy orders, but they do allow online sell orders.
crkranz, sorry but many commercial jobs here in southern california still very much utilize wood for all their formwork. I also know that plastic forms & other means are not cost effective compared to wood.
lol no, just added 4M, we just got off and he apologized for the wait and that my order is now approved. eom
Still on hold w/ Apex rep... I guess it takes a while to put an order through with them. Interesting to see under open orders status as pending review
TFN, I like your thinking. I only wished my extra funds cleared earlier (should have wired them! @#$%^&*!)
OK my last add at .097,.. here's to "early next week"!! eom
That may be post 57093 by allinone. eom

I am unable to find a link for the news stating the upcoming MN1 interview? Would you mind posting? tia
Agreed, especially since Emaar now has John Laing. From this article:
http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homepage/abox/article_1167341.php
"Emaar, a publicly traded company that counts the Dubai royal family among its biggest investors, plans to invest billions of dollars in Laing's expansion. Webb said he expects the firm to double in size and leapfrog Shea Homes as the biggest private homebuilder in the U.S. within five years."
dshade good point. eom
Great post airdale, glad to see you here. eom
