Yup, you are not alone, making a list as well. There are lots of lurkers too that I am sure are doing the same.
A little eye candy from the PCFG web site. I have no idea how old any of these pictures are but they are there.

It is simple and it is what you said that neither side has either asked the right questions to the right people or they just really want to argue and it really does not matter what the truth is in that case. Sorry to say it but those who really want to know can find these things out if they really wanted to.
Craig Baker, I can't respond to your PM because I have a freebee account here. If you wanted to you could PM me your email address. I will email you there if you like about what you PM'ed me about.
Panic, I have limited number of posts if you wanted to you could PM me your email addy. I always like to network with other Unix people.
I think they are stuck on it because if it is proven to be true that he served like he said he did then on side can say, "See he doesn't lie", while on the other hand if it is proven that he did not serve then the other side and say, "see, what else has he lied about?". You are right though that it really has no bearing as to how that stock will fair in the furure. Only a creibility thing at this point.
Actually my only motive it to put the service record thing to rest as that is the one thing that can be solved, not easily , but none the lest can be solved. Someone saying that another person is lying about their service to me to wrong but someone lying about their service is very bad. Aside from all the other arguments here this one is solveable, without a doubt.
Also, I have heard others sugest that he show his DD-214, I would never show mine so why would I expect him to show his?
What I am saying is it is futile for one side to say, he served while the other side says prove it. Either side can prove it by through these means.
I am all over the place. I spend a lot of time with Knoppix and other such flavors. I dont want a footprint to be left behind. At work though I spend a lot of time within Trusted Solaris. Not a nice of a tool to use for security work but great to keep people out of my systems. While I am not a security person per se I do wear my security hat so my security people can''t blow smoke up my rear like they try and do sometimes.
You know the dates of service, someone said it alraedy. 1985-1989. Also all you are really looking for is something that returns record found or no record found.
loanranger, I think you stoped reading too early. If you look in section 2, para a it states the following
"If the appropriate signature cannot be obtained, only limited types of information can be provided."
What you would be looking for here is if they have a record of that person in the service, no one really wants the specifics of his service. If the request was to return with an offical stating There is no record of this person, then there is your answer. If on the other hand the responce is, we have a record but we are not going to give it to you. Then you know they have a record. Having a record on file would at least indicate that that person was indeed in the military. So yes, it is simple, sort of. The more inforamtion someone has the better the results are with these things. How else do you think members of the press get these things? You hear all the time, so and so was found out to have lied about their military service. Someone actually has to make an effort to find this through FOIA but they have to 1st collect enough information about the subject to get a good search.
I would agree with that statment. I also agree that MAC is a good OS to have but a little pricey. You get what you pay for that is sure.
note: I am byas as I am a Unix System Administrator.
loanranger, read this link it is very interesting.
http://www.lovefraud.com/07_howToCheckThemOut/Verify_military_service.html
janice, you have a fair point there. All anyone here knows is a name and years served.
butterfly, yes you can it is a Freedom of Information Act item, although it will be redacted.
http://www.lovefraud.com/07_howToCheckThemOut/Verify_military_service.html
If someone ever claims to be in the service, one only has to fill out a simple form to find out iff the claims are true or not. All one has to do is fill out an SF-180 and follow the instructions on the government website.
http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/standard-form-180.html
Since I have not seen anyone say they have made this request from the government I guess everyone just wants to argue about something that can be validated. Out of everything else that has been said on this board this is the one thing that can be validated or not by an impartial 3rd party, the Department of Defense.
Thank you. I wont be a free member for too long. I have to wait until I get paid before I can start a monthly subscription.
Hello all. I am new to ihub and new to the Den as well. I usually dont post much but as I have questions I will most likely PM someone. I hope to engage a little but not too much.
