Data, I agree. But, I suspect GPS integration was one of many issues affecting the shortage of Nokia models.
found this link in Wikipedia.

"The big draw of BREW is its 3D capabilities. It's a far more advanced platform than J2ME, and it enables developers to make much more complex games (provided the destination handset has the processing power to run them). "
I was wrong to believe BREW was portable by a 3rd party.
But, BREW sure adds to my VZ experience.
The advantage held by Sun Microsystems for their desktop workstations and Apple for their Mac platform over a relatively unstable Windows system is the super small number of hardware variations they had to support.
On a side note, no one wants to be without the latest NVidia hardware acceleration and cost. So...
"BREW - Once integrated into the chipset SW, it provided another barrier to entry for other chipset manufacturers and their customer's devices. A prime example was Nokia's delays in getting a feature handset approved at Verizon....."
What's a feature handset? Brew isn't integrated into the chipset. It is easily added to the firmware or left out for Sprint handsets.
I am confident Qualcomm would have gone to great lengths to port Brew for all chipset manufacturers since they get a cut of revenues and this practice gives a nod to microsoft.
Apple has spent $$$ advertising they have an online store with a wide range of apps. Development of those third party apps was justified by the market share they hold for their music players and music player-based phones.
I believe over the past few years, Nokia wasn't in a hurry to get back in VZs good graces because they had to focus on matching or beating Q in WCDMA/GSM chipsets without the distraction of oddball CDMAOne. Hook up with Pantech, problem solved.
Besides, doesn't Verizon give UI sourcecode to handset manufacturers?
We already use Linux on everyday devices without knowing it.
Like... Apple computers.
TV DVRs.
I'm not seeing a pandemic of malware on Linux trying to spam adult pr0n websites, body enhancements or stealing my passwords.
The iPhone avoids this reputation by not supporting background processes of any kind.
Not as useful as one might think, unless you man the front desk of an ATT Wireless store.
Not even Nokia or Motorola or both can create the hype that Apple commands with their iPod and iTunes followers. This didn't happen overnight.
Still have a problem where the Apple apps only work on Apple hardware.
Yawn, but why should they continue to be a publicly traded company?
The right answer isn't affected by trust.
That's funny.
Companies go public to access capital and equipment needed to realize a dream believable and shared by many. Not having to make interest payments is very attractive.
Why should Interdigital continue to submit to Sarbanes-Oxley and the wireless industry's most embarassing group of fanatics, backseat drivers and serial spammers without a fantastic reason to continue operating on what is essentially borrowed money?
255,900 posts on this board alone and what have you all contributed?
Yawn... Look, spammer, you would have made money on Qualcomm anticipating the Nokia decision. But, you missed that one.
Anticipating the Samsung decision was a no-brainer, even for you.
What now?
Comparing IDC, the wireless patent troll, with the leading wireless system developer and manufacturer?
I'm confident you won't see the forest for the trees.
We both have something to be thankful for... today.
Lets see what happens tomorrow.
Uh, if it looks like spam, smells like spam, sounds like spam...
You're oblivious. None of them are Qualcomm employees.
What did you expect? A warm welcome?
You had to shoot your mouth off all at once.

I thought he was already there.
He's not carranza2?
We don't care.
Since that came out today, I doubt it.
Clearly, charts aren't sinking in and, at best, is a clear indication of Past performance. Not future.
He doesn't understand the relative complexity of an RFID tag and a cellphone.
Why explain to him Qualcomm has won the game when he doesn't care?
http://www.qualcomm.com/news/releases/2007/071113_Qualcomm_Introduces_Single_Chip.html
The benefit of Qualcomm's product line is their chip sales enable them to build unique relationships with fabs that have 45nm and are working on 35nm or RF using CMOS. Those worldwide industry-leading fabs will do anything to start driving the volume Qualcomm sells.
Its a waste of time to explain that Broadcom has pushed Qualcomm to elevate phone chipsets and support software beyond TI or Broadcom's own abilities which is far and above any startup that tries to survive by pooling IPR with other startups.
Besides, pointing out the obvious and making Data laugh is fun.
Study Snaptrack and Omnitracs and get back to us.
(god, I nailed it on the youtube link.)
meanwhile...
Why do you think that?
Not sure what you're bitching about. Qualcomm has something you've always wanted: institutional ownership. Right now, institutions are liquidating indiscriminately.
Just when we thought you had something going on upstairs, you open your mouth and remove all hope.
TI is bowing out. BRCM and IDCC are well known for their lawyers and nothing else. Apple is making sure everyone knows how Infineon chipsets perform.
If TI and Freescale could compete with Qualcomm they would have sold instead of folded. No?
I peeked at Broadcom's income statements and realized why they want to enter the phone business.
I don't think you really want Q to own Broadcom's baggage.
Punkin, whenever you look down at your Iphone, remember this:
[Qualcomm inside]
will always be an improvement.
Deep down inside,
you agree with me.
Wait, you don't think he...
Wow.
Besides, 600mhz ARM11s make for terrible basebands.
Data, whatever it is, its gonna get slaughtered by...
http://www.gobianywhere.com/
No GPS?
...welcome to the land of USB dongles.
Umm...
never mind.
Pink.
retard says what
What, disappointed they didn't look East in their talent search?
Smart people don't turn down the opportunity to be
CEO OF MOTOROLA.
Hey, aren't they one more of this big dull aches in your royalty fantasies that just got bigger and achier?
Boy, I just can't think of anything more painful right now than to be you.
But, you shooting your mouth off again should be good for another bump tomorrow if not real soon now.
Nightey night, retard.
Wow.
The thought of you sitting there, waiting for your WalMart greeter shift to start, and waiting for the day when Qualcomm has to sign with IDC for anything, is lip-smacking delicious.
Tell us, what is the difference between 10kHz and 10mHz?
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/05/15/omvc_mobile_tv_standard/
more than a decade ago, Zenith Engineers made large contributions to the US ATSC digital TV standard used for OverTheAir broadcasts. Now, Zenith is owned by LG.
We have FM Radio HD and AM Stereo. This mobile TV system appears to be "simulcast" for a small cost along with their current signal. If this new system adds another chip and antenna inside the phone and does bad things to battery life...they will need compelling programming, especially during mid-day to compete.
Unless there is a huge "soaps" viewership I'm ignoring.
Whew. Saved from another week of boredom with nothing to talk about.
So, hows it going down in hillbilly Texas?
Has your WalMart Supercenter sprouted another suburb yet?
Lets all pray for another hurricane to take your mind off your sad-assed stock picks, fanboy.
Oh, so that's why you're back in the teens.
With all the integrated baseband solutions available from everyone else? You have bigger things to worry about, spammer.
Dude, its 2008. Even Broadcom is laughing.
Will this effort enhance Interdigital's shareholder value or be one of many reasons behind the giant sucking sound that accompanies your posts?
Time will tell.
Old news on GPS. He's hoping that map software company they blew big bucks on turns into something after their gaming disaster.
Verizon stores now load VzNavigator on their display handsets so salespeople can demonstrate how cool it is.
I'm gonna have to get the LG Voyager.
FLO support, touchscreen. Oh my. I must have that phone.
You're about 3 days late.
http://quotes.nasdaq.com/quote.dll?page=charting&mode=basics&intraday=off&timeframe=5d&charttype=ohlc&comparison=on&symbol=QCOM&symbol=IDCC
Not a good showing for either of you.
What does that have to do with Qualcomm?
Just reacting to the brainless nonsense you spam us with each time the market does go down.
Duh?
"being long QCOM all the time is not an investment strategy to make you rich."
And you are still waiting for IDC to make you rich because....you're the IDC Spam Fairy?
How comes Qualcomm doesn't get its own spam fairy?
"If you just replace IDCC"
Never thought comprehension was one of your strengths.
When you claim that a collection of lawyers can take the place of a world leader in semiconductors, you become the human embodiement of the spammer fairy.
Something to be proud of, eh?
"statement of fact as I see it".
You're overestimating your credibility by a few light years.
Since it hasn't yet, it is not a "statement of fact".
How you see it is irrelevent. Like your presence here.
So, what do we say tomorrow when its down?
Thats what makes you so much fun.
Run along now and put that blue smock on and go do your daily duties at that big box store with the smiling face.
Leave the real discussion to us.
A little time?
I think you're retarded.
Pump that baby up so I can short it.
You must be one of those geniuses who thinks Nokia will be affected by a ban on US sales.
Did your carrier unlock it?
Why does anyone try to develop an unlock except to steal the phone.
And, what percentage of US wireless consumers care about global roaming?
