Homepage problem..... A friend has gotten a gambling site problem after a visit from his father-in-law so the story goes...lol. It's listed as the default homepage and when the homepage is changed back to my.yahoo, the gambling site keeps returning as the default home page.
I had him run Ad-aware and spybot but the problem remains.
What's next? Will Ace fix this???
My Quill mouse says Made in China on the label.
Thank you for checking out Spy Bouncer. I didn't click far enough to find out you had to pay..... Sorry for the bad lead.
What are Spyware Blaster kill bits and how did you determine that's what the 225 spies were on your terminator?
Interesting stuff!
Thanks, Eaglefl
Hi Bruce,
Thought I'd do some house cleaning mid-day and stumbled upon SPY BOUNCER in a link a few steps removed from something you just posted.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html
AFTER I ran Ad-aware,SpyBot and Ace, Spy Bouncer found 184 infected items to my astonishment. I'm hesitant to whack them with a program totally new to me without someone's experience with that program.
Two questions: Do you have experience and/or any comments about Spy Bouncer? Secondly, how should I amend my basic cleanup routine of Ad-aware, Spybot and Ace to improve the cleanup? ummmmm...I'm guessing you'll say ad Shredder....lol
I'll be darned...I never thought about Norton counting stuff in the recycle bin....next time I'll empty it before running Norton just to prove it!
Thanks Bruce
Bruce;
Sunday housekeeping.... I just ran, Adware, Spybot and Ace. Just for kicks I ran Norton's Clean sweep and to my surprise it removed 8.9 MG of junk.
What other utility would do this for me?
TIA, Eaglefl
Backup browser...???
Bruce,
Do you keep a backup browser on your desktop in the event IE goes down? If so, which one?

Terminator Eagle report...
I was experiencing several instabilities with the 180 CPU External frequency. So I went back to the default of 100 and got a Pitstop rating of 962 which I considered a benchmark.
Then I made 2 simple changes and upped the pitstop score to 1504. The changes were a CPU external frequency of 166 and increasing the V core voltage from 1.65 to 1.675.
I'm now running a SETI packet in about 2 hours which is even faster than when I had a CPU external frequency of 188!
Amazing how Bruce dragged me into the future...lol!
A Disadvantage re: wireless...
I was all hyped over setting up my Terminator using wireless. Everything was great until I used streaming date from Market Trader at E*Trade. If you're using streaming data, any hiccup in the signal results in the need to reboot Market Trader which is not what you want to do if you're getting ready to pull the trigger. I was getting about 8-10 hiccups a trading day.
So Terminator Eagle is now hard-wired to the router and I haven't had to do the reboot since.
I went to the SpyBot download site and loaded 1.3 right over 1.2 i.e. in the same folder, and 1.3 worked fine.
Bruce: You posted about SpyBot 3.1 being available. I have version 2.1 and when I try to update I get the message "There are no new updates available"
Now what coach?.....lol
Terminator motherboard spec:
It appears you'll need to update the Terminator motherboard spec. I have the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, Item No. N82E16813131436 (I paid $117.99) which is no longer offered in the motherboard link.
The usual world of constant change!
Eaglefl
Bruce; I just noticed a refurbished Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard (from the IBox terminator link) for $39.

Suddenly one of my comps is running very very slooooooow!
I ran Ad-Aware, Spy Bot, Ace, and Norton clean sweep and Norton antivirus and it STILL runs likes in buried in molasses. I even cleaned it up with Mem Turbo.
I think I'm going to learn a lesson here...lol
What next?????
P.S. I recently installed a Belkin wireless network card to replace a Belkin wireless network adaptor. I'm not sure if the molasses problem stated at that time.
Regarding a wireless router.....My experience is that Belkin wins hands down! I had two other routers prior to going Belkin. Nothing to do; just make the connections and it works! An adaptor for another comp is even easier to setup using a Belkin. (No; I don't own Belkin stock....actually I think they're private)
In contrast to Netgear which gave me fits.
My 2 cents!

lawtell:
You asked about a case for a Terminator. I got an Antec Performance SX1000II Series which is basically a Server case. It's top of the line. I picked it up at CompUSA for $70 on sale before I ever heard of a Terminator.
It has the door in front like you wanted.
You also asked about Motherboards. I got the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe which is the one needed if you intend to overclock.
Hope this helps.

Building a Terminator.... For those who want to but are hesitant about taking the plunge...DO IT!
When you get to that "Magic moment" of throwing the "ON" switch for the first time (gulp); rest assured Bruce walks you thru that setup step by step in a phone call. What he's doing here for us is a really great service. THANK YOU BRUCE.
Now a question...... I'm experiencing some new and unusual error messages when running SETI and finding that the Terminator has attempted a reboot when I'm away and its been running SETI. Also, the boot can't complete because it keeps saying it can't find a keyboard. I've installed the wireless keyboard so many times now it's making me crazy. Is it possible I'm right at the edge of the overclocking and should back off a little from the 182?
Thanks Bruce,
Eaglefl
Time Out.....lol
I couldn't increase the AGP VDQ Voltage until after I set the System Performance to agressive. But in so doing it set the AGP VDQ voltage back to 1.5 so I increased it a notch to 1.7.
I couldn't bump the CPU External Frequency; it was 133 and the next bump was to 166.
I ran PCPitstop anyway and yikes....A rating of 1166.

Is it overclock time?...hehe!
YEEEEE.....HAWWWWW!!!
The TERMINATOR-EAGLE is airborne again. Win2000 re-installed, all wireless gadgets working, most utilities re-downloaded and Pitstop just run:

Scott: Go Belkin on wireless...... they're trying to capture that market so I'm told and their wireless router and wireless adaptor are incredible easy to install and work right the first time.
Netgear, on the other hand, I still can't get to work!...AND; none of their phone numbers work so there's no help available.
Just my experience thus far.
eaglefl
Bruce: I've updated my windows, downloaded adware etc and have managed to lower the overall rating....lol
It's been running through the night and all day today for SETI reasons and the current CPU Temp is 32 C and the MB Temp is 26 C.
Latest pitstop results:

THE TERMINATOR-EAGLE HAS LANDED
Here's the 1st pcpitstop report done wireless from the kitchen table construction site!
http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=K1J0KWZY9DMSSKN3
I haven't updated WIN2000 or IE yet.
Get your scalple out Dr. Thompson
Terminator-Eagle still somewhat caged.
I FINALLY got the wireless keyboad working. The wireless mouse was a snap! One last hurdle is the Netgear wireless adaptor...it can't find the internet! I knew I should have gotten the idiot proof Belkin Adaptor like I have on my other comp. The Netgear was on sale!
I'm going to cheat and use the Belkin on the Terminator until I figure out the Netgear Adaptor. I gotta get to pcpitstop......lol
If there are any wireless folks here I'd appreciate talking with you.
Oh, Bruce, you mentioned some software to control the heat sink fan speed. Could you provide some detail on that. Mine sounds like my wife's vacuum cleaner when it's on.
Eaglefl
Bruce, You mentioned that the CD that came with the motherboard might solve my wireless problem. I forgot to ask about all those CD's and all the extra parts that weren't used in the Terminator.
I have a VGA Utility CD. I have a Nvidia n force2 Motherboard CD. And I have 3 CD's that came with the CD drive. Surely they must do something useful.....lol
Tomorrow's problem!...
eaglefl
Hi Ren....thank you...yes, its a great feeling.
I'm not overclocked yet because it wouldn't let us do it w/o the operating system installed. I have to resolve the wireless thing before much else can happen.
Oh yeah, I want to do another one to; now that I'm over the hurdle. I can't wait to see what it will do with the SETI runs.
It's going to be fun to see all the births here in the days ahead.
Nice hearing from you.
Eaglefl
THE TERMINATOR-EAGLE has landed!
The only problem is that it landed on the kitchen table and the wireless connection to the internet isn't working yet for some unknown reason.
I gotta say this though, that if it wasn't for Bruce hand holding me thru tonights setup the terminator would still be just a pile of parts. He's dragged me into the future, for which, I thank you very much Bruce.
The next scheduled stop is pcpitstop to get a reading on this baby. Hopefully tomorrow.

Terminator Progress Report #3:
Other than re-checking things, the last task will be the ribbon cables and trying to make things somewhat neat inside.
I've been thinking about that first scary moment of turning it on.....lol... I need to get some space cleared in this rat's nest to get things on the road.
You brought up BIOS with Ren....I don't know anything about BIOS either so we'll need some hand-holding there. I'm going to load WIN2000.
I'm looking forward to another day in Paradise!!!
Still uncertain about fan connections:
Bruce said:...The case fan connects to the motherboard and is Speed controlled. The connector is right next to the AGP slot. The CPU fan must have its' own individual power connector from the power supply. Daisy chain the third off the floppy disk if there isn't a power supply lead left. There should be though. I am assuming that you mean two case fans and the CPU fan for a total of three. Am I correct?
I'm going to re-ask my questions with more detail...First of all, I have an Antec server case which has 2 case fans on the rear, 2 pwr supply fans (directly on the pwr supply) and a space for another case fan on the front.
I assume that each of the case fans gets connected directly to the pwr supply. I don't see anywhere that they could be connected directly to the motherboard.
There is a 2 wire (blue and black) pigtail coming from the pwr supply which I connected to the PWR_FAN connection on the motherboard.
The Tornado heat sink fan has 2 (1 male and 1 female) 4-pin pwr connectors and a single yellow wire pig tail connector. I connected this yellow wire to the motherboard at the CPU_FAN1 location.
I'm assuming that one of the 2 pwr connectors on the Tornado gets connected directly to the pwr supply.
I guess my only question is...Did I connect the fans correctly?
Terminator Construction Report #2.
Today, all 20 or so of the LED connections were completed.
As you may recall I'm using an Antec Server case. There are 2 fans on the power supply, two case fans on the rear, and a place for another fan, if one desired, on the front.
The issue of how to connect the case fans and the heat sink fan is still an open one and since I'm tired; I'll get to that tomorrow!
I still have to add the video card, connect all the ribbon tapes and designate which are master and slave drives.
And then I'll look to you Bruce as to other things that have to be done.
Cheers,
Eaglefl
Terminator Assembly Report #1.
Got the CPU, heat sink, heat sink fan and the motherboard installed as well as the hard drives (I had a 30 GB laying around which I put right next to the specified 80 GB), the DVD, and another RW-CD that was also laying around. The lay arounds were from past Staple super duper sales.
Tomorrow we do the connections...... we includes my son who if he wasn't here I'd still be staring at the heat sink!
I do have a question about powering the 3 fans..... is it okay to just connect them in a daisy chain fashion from one connector from the power supply? Speaking of fans, I noticed that the fan we're using on the heat sink is actually a case fan instaed of a heat sink fan. Is this one of your design secrets Bruce to pack more whallop to the system?
A great start in the new year..... now if I can just get some trades to work tomorrow...*EG*
Thanks for being the motivator behind all of this Bruce!
Eaglefl
P.S. I do have another question Bruce.... Do I have to worry about specific settings anywhere in the system after I get the Video card and everything else connected tomorrow?
