Yes, I can certainly see why someone who is a genuine salesman wouldn't want to answer the phone. You are a genius. Still grading everyone's papers I see.
I don't know, Mike. I dropped the ball on this one and I haven't really been able to follow things up or post much recently.
I don't know. Frankly, I doubt it. Mr. Meyers told me in an email 3 or 4 weeks ago that they (not sure at this time who "they" is) were considering starting a new company to solely handle the Wanderport.
Have you or anyone else heard anything about a "new" company coming into the mix?
Gas and electric element water heaters are going to go the way of lead pipes. WAKE UP!!!
You're like Walter Mondale and all I can say is there you go again. The podunk co-op closest to me alone has more than 100,000 customers. Actually about twice that. And how many of them are there across this vast unsettled rural wilderness?
I honestly have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt. It's been hard at times. You've come at this thing every which way you can to discredit it almost like it's some kind of personal vendetta. For example I think the attacks on UMC were somewhat unfounded.
I do know we're at opposite ends of the spectrum on this deal. And you may be right about people's thoughts on microwaves being something that needs to be overcome. But, from my point of view it's a lot safer than introducing a highly combustible pressurized gas like LP or natural into your home. And if the testing they say they're doing shows a significant savings over standard and currently available water heaters, which I think it will, then people will realize its value and all of these black magic box theories will begin to subside. That's my opinion.
Thanks for the back up, tani.
I'm saying they'll be properly shielded if it's required. Are you saying that they're going to market something that's going to make people drop dead the minute it kicks on? I can't imagine that would make for good word of mouth advertising.
How many people do you know have had their heart or pacemaker affected by a microwave anyway? Or by any appliance for that matter. Some weisenheimer will probably come in here and tell us a story. We'll see. Anyway, I assumed you were trying to be funny. Maybe you weren't. I don't know now. I do find it a little humorous though that folks are coming in here from time to time and acting like this new fangled gizmo is going to kill people or somehow breaks the laws of physics.
As a point of fact we are all constantly being bombarded by microwaves at this very moment. Did you know that? And at much more intensity than a microwave oven yet less focused. This is just every day cosmic radiation.
I would also imagine a cell phone receives and transmits more microwave energy during a phone call than a microwave oven say baking a potato although I haven't done any research to verify it.
As far as the signs go I also see ones at McDonald's that say their coffee is extremely hot. Why do they do that?
It's amazing that after nearly 60 years a lot of the myths and urban legends about microwaves still are circulating.
That's funny
First, it'll have to be shielded. Second, it's not an EMP burst projector. Third, not a particle collider. Fourth, not an atom scrambler (whatever that is...people watch too many '50s sci fi movies I guess). Fifth, not a nuclear reactor.
Nice deflection! Not buying it.
First, thank you.
Second, if a few people would use a little common sense deduction and reasoning they would see what kind of company UMC really is. I happen to think a lot of a "cheesy" company that can get a major manufacturer to produce and label a water heater for them. Does anyone think before UMC entered into this partnership with State (A.O. Smith) that there wasn't extensive due diligence done? Does anyone think State and A.O. Smith by default would want their name aligned with a fly-by-night outfit? Does anyone believe EVERYTHING on the internet is highly reliable information. (DNB shows me as having 25 employees and an estimated $100,000 sales. Just at a glance you should be able to tell that overhead is eating me up. The truth is I have 1 employee...me...and my best year with my sideline business that I run I didn't even have half that amount of sales.)
Guys, listen to tani. Connect the dots and think outside the box.
THINKING at all would be a good thing.
PSC claims they are "nimbling" next week. What exactly does that mean? I take it to mean they're selling some. But are they actually looking for shares? I would really appreciate anybody's insights into that statement.
Thanks
Tani,
I get down on my knees and gladly forever acknowledge your superiority.
I haven't forgotten.

90 years ago a "cheesy" little company in Waterloo, Iowa started making gas tractors. Big narrow minded argument back then: they'll never replace the steam engine. The company is now headquatered in Moline, Illinois and called Deere & Co. A "cheesy" company in Peoria, Illinois saw the value of track tractors about 80 years ago and became Caterpillar. "Cheesy" little rinky dink mill outfit in Decatur, Illinois became a food additive giant (Archer-Daniels-Midland). Recommend the movie "The Informant" by the way. "Cheesy" little aircraft engine company in Indy called Allison was bought by General Motors and later sold along with Detroit Diesel to Roger Penske.
You guys need to have some vision.
By Neil's standards there's at least a 70% chance that the oil filter on his vehicle was made by a "cheesy" company in a town of about 900 people in Southern Illinois called West Salem. There's a good chance a "cheesy" company in Evansville, Indiana probably made the last tortilla chips he ate. Another "cheesy" company in Robinson, Illinois makes the Heath bar. Oh yeah, they also own M&Ms.
Better wake up Neil.
I can tell you that my powered vent gas water heater is very loud when the vent fan kicks on. It is in my basement. It does not however sound like a 747 on final down there. By contrast, everything that requires hot water in my house, like my dish washer, clothes washer, and my wife in the shower is much louder than that. It is also easily muffled by my home theater system. My microwave oven is much quieter yet. A microwave without a fan would be even quieter. So yes, no big deal to me either. But some people need to find the dark cloud behind every silver lining. Especially if they're in the mood to buy and are trying to find haggling points.
Good one. Let's hope so.
We have been told that it will have a water cooled magnetron. So I'm guessing that it will not have a fan like a microwave oven.
LOL! Absolutely I'm sure. Don't know what to tell you about your glow.
I can't imagine they would be louder than any powered vent gas water heater. By contrast my microwave oven is much quieter than my water heater. Just throwing that out there.
I can tell you what is legit as far as microwave ovens. None of them have an unliscensed particle collider or nuclear reactor inside. Nor do they contain radioactive material. They do not scramble or smash atoms in any way, shape, or form. If you want a deeper physics lesson on how they work I can give it to you...when I have time.
OK, Perry Mason, your questions can't be answered. Probably won't be able to until someone is actually able to get their little patty paws on one. Bottom line is they need to get this thing rolled out. Good thing about this distributor tomorrow is it should make thing a little more verifiable as well.
And retnav, if you're on the up and up keep asking questions. Although problem is if someone that's not credible in your eyes says they are how do you take that? Either way it will be interesting to see if and what they respond to that if indeed you did send it. I think they're very valid questions. Ones we should all be asking IMO. After all WDRP does have OUR money to do with what THEY want. They do need to be able to convince me to let them keep mine.
That being said they better come through tomorrow in a big way.
That's the way I see it.
Now go get your pitchforks and torches.
And Beer, if you are allowed only one 5 minute shower a day I recommend calling Robert Redford. He's into prison reform.
And don't be so uptight...it's a joke.
That simply means that someone has replied to your public post.
9.996 cents
Don't you know he's like Voldemort. Say his name and he will appear.
I recommend you refer to him as "He who shall not be named."
I'm sure he'll be back on a down day to ridicule and keep us all stirred up.
Makes sense to me. Call the company it's not about. Give me a break. Tell me...how many "folks" do you know at State.
If I even can.
scott-
Please don't misunderstand me. I didn't think you were. Yes some will only because they don't understand the potential here. I have info regarding your other subject as well but just can't figure out where or how to post it.
scott
I would be MORE concerned with WDRP jumping head first into a pool of sharks rather than doing it the way they are doing it. BTW I don't consider co-ops anything to laugh about. It's a smart move IMO. Many co-ops are politically connected and highly motivated as far as attracting customers.
I have to agree to a point. I will say though that this information seems easily attainable (in hindsight) based on the PRs that WDRP gave us. In fact (in hindsight) I would even say that if they didn't want it out there at all they took a huge risk in releasing what they did. This may sound naive but perhaps I should try contacting them first.
Well guys I can't PM anyone unless I pay and I'm not inclined to do that at this time. Beyond the call from the co-op and the information I found, thanks in large part to Belize, I haven't done anymore DD. But it does appear based on Belize's posts yesterday morning and the info I found that this possible distributor could quite easily be contacted. And frankly my concern is with all that's going on right now that the last thing we need is for them to be deluged with phone calls.
OK guys. I have some information regarding who MIGHT possibly be the distributor. Last week when the whole Marathon issue came up I chased that pretty hard thinking it was the most logical fit at the time. I'm all but certain that's wrong now. Some of you may remember that last week Gold Icon thought it might be a good idea after the latest PR dustup to call a co-op and find out some more information. I did that. They got back with me today with the brands they sell. In the meantime after yesterday mornings "insider trading" joke of a dustup I found a distributor on the internet after using some "clues" from Belize that fit all of the criteria for the one Wanderport refers to. For one reason or another at the time I didn't feel that it was a good idea to post the information. After all, negotiations and intital production are going on and the motives of a couple of posters, in my opinion, are certainly questionable.
Anyway, the phone call today more or less confirms the information I found on the internet yesterday.
I feel now however that after the last few days we could use some good speculative info. So at this point, and a lot of you may already know anyway, I'm going to leave it to the board here whether or not I post this info.
I will tell you right now the POSSIBLE distributor isn't a major name BUT they do have their own brand of water heater that is manufactured by a very respectable and noteworthy company in my opinion.
Also keep in mind that this info would be seen by everyone on this board before responding.
Excellent! If the distributor is who I think it is it took me about 5 minutes to find on the internet (about all I can do right now) after coming up with the proper search wording. Everything fits. It's so obvious now I don't see how it could be anyone else. So, if I'm correct it's not associated with a giant manufacturer like Rheem but still a well respected and noteworthy company. I'm with you though, I don't particularly think anything should be mentioned until the PRs come out.
BTW you armchair researchers may need to look at more than the first page of your Google search results.
I'm laughing with you bro. Yeah me too. I've gotta be out most of the weekend and week except late at night so I don't know how much I'll be able to check in here until the end of the week. Someone will probably try to bushwhack my idea. We'll see.
Anyway good luck to everyone.
The short answer is yes. Wanderport-Marathon-Co-ops...yes. That's my opinion
I could give you a much longer answer but I think it would bore you to death. Keep in mind that you have your small local co-ops that generally band together and belong to larger more regional or national co-ops or co-op organizations like the NRECA. Just know that the power of co-ops on a national level is in their numbers. Someone mentioned it here earlier but they're able to pool resources and get deals the average Joe couldn't even think about. And think, they're powerful enough to have their almost exclusive brand, Marathon, manufactured by one of the largest and most notable hot water heater manufacturers, Rheem.
That's the way I see it. Now watch me get hit with a haymaker. I did have another thought that's way outta left field so I'm not going to bring it up now. We'll see how it all pans out.
All of this is opinion. Take it for what it's worth.
Well I don't know but it's been my experience with ag co-ops that members and customers are a secondary consideration in most cases to their bottom line. In fact, one of the local ag co-ops here suspended their divdend (total payout was a little over a mil I think) after being 20 million in the green at the end of the year with a projected budget of about the same for this year. The reason they gave was basically "times are tough right now." That and volatile oil prices have driven the fertilizer and fuel industry nuts. Anyway, they can also be fairly ruthless in regards to competition. I don't frankly know if any of that translates to electric co-ops though.
I think you're thinking too much. I do agree with you about the PR though.
I wanted to respond to this but I burnt through my 15 posts pretty quick today after the news. I'm almost certain, still could be wrong though, that if Marathon is considered an associate member in the co-op then any other member could approach them directly and purchase directly from them. I believe when Wanderport says distributor they mean the actual co-ops. Or perhaps in other words the co-ops as a whole, meaning the NRECA or whatever, are the distributor. Again just speculation on my part.
