I've ignored coming here for quite a while. I just don't understand why IDCC seems to finally start to do something in regards to valuation rise only to drop like a brick as it has always did. It never fails. Next rise into mid-90's, I am finally getting out. This has been going on for over 20 years. Where's the transparency?
I haven't posted here for quite some time. It seems we just can't get ahead with this stock. I continue to hold, but I regret passing on stocks that went up 10X in the past 2 years and IDCC is WELL what it is. Our management team gets their bonuses yet the stock does nothing and hasn't done anything for a long, long time...At what point will it take off? I think I've asked that question on and off for over 30 years.
For 20+ years, this board has said if this is settled or if this happens...only for us to be nowhere. Unless IDCC can sign some new deals, we will never go anywhere. Excuses are meaningless. When will IDCC perform what they stated even 5 years ago?
It is very sad that all these years (over 20) and this stock has not taken off. Management and our world class sales department have negotiated nothing much value-wise. If you really do the math, we have not kept up with the market which seems unbelievable with all the hype long ago by management. ENGINE and TRANSMISSION --- maybe someone is using a Briggs and Stratton engine on a bike with a chain to propel it with a throttle and bypassed us. When the heck is IDCC going to fulfill the hype they've put out there? The slow drift down isn't making things seem so positive. I wish for all, something finally happens to make you all see solid money come your way. This is beyond frustrating. Worst performer in my portfolio. Sorry for the rant, but this has been a difficult journey.
Personally, I've been in this stock for about 28-30 years I believe. This has not been the golden child many thought. I kick myself everyday that I did not sell it 7 months ago and should have went with my gut and bought Square Inc & Roku. Another painful lesson. IDCC has been dead money for quite a while which is upsetting considering all the positives this company should have. I can only fault management. They at least are making money. Why can't we the long and faithful?
I don't like posting anymore, but this is unbelievable. When will management get things moving with news that will benefit the shareholders? As in the past, as long as they continue to get their bonuses, why should they care? The piggy bank is just fine for them. What is the real reason for us going into a continuous slow bleed since the $102 High?
Don't come here to post anymore, but wish all well. IDCC should continue to grow its share price. I believe we will see $100 per share, but it may take another 6 months if we are lucky. News as usual is key ... I believe that is still 6 - 12 months away. I thought revenue would have grown faster but it's doing OK. Just wish we could get a surprise license soon. Best to all and have a Happy Holiday Season.
As has been the history of IDCC...They are pathetic in the litigation arena and they can't get anything right. Their constant "We Are Confident In Our Position" statements throughout the years has continually misled the investors. $800 million annual revenues...NOT IN MY LIFETIME.
I have to believe that any time a license is granted, it is granted with a given rate agreed upon...therefore it is encumbered. That agreement can't be changed by anyone until the license agreement expires. Anyone agree that this statement is correct?
What do we make out of the RIMM license? For months upon months all I kept seeing people post was that IDCC was probably not signing agreements with anyone, letting agreements expire so that there would be no further encumbrances on IDCC patents. I guess in signing a new license, this puts that theory to rest. So what are we to think? My opinion is we could not ink the other expired or expiring licenses and that is not what was holding up any offers for the sale of Interdigital. Well, now all I think we can hope for is additional license agreements, but that falls in the hands of our "World Class Licensing" department. Will this be another long and grinding road ahead?
NOW I am concerned. BILL MERRITT was with Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO). LILCO is now LIPA. Under any name, LILCO was one of the worst run companies, losing billions of dollars for failed investment strategies, energy planning and more. Long Islanders are still paying for all the mis-steps taken. I wonder if Mr. Merritt knew of what was going on before leaving the company or if he was involved in any of their mis-steps. JUST WONDERING!!! We on Long Island have some of the highest energy costs of anywhere in the USA. Thanks LILCO / LIPA and whoever is next in line.
Hey Mickey...You got your wish! I am very happy to see that IDCC announced a Special Dividend. Now the question is "WILL WE SEE A MAJOR BUYING SURGE" based on this announcement. I have to believe that between now and December 17th, we should see some serious buying going on up 'til 12/17 and then a sell-off on 12/18. I am no guru, but it just makes sense that this will likely be the scenario. I will probably put a sell order at the end of the day on 12/17 after closing. You will probably be able to buy back before the end of the month at a greatly reduced share price. This should be interesting to watch. Do I hear $70+ before 12/17? Good luck all.
I suspect AMAZON has their bases covered knowing how fast and furious patent infringement lawsuits are flying. Here's hoping their is something IDCC knows that we don't know at this time.
MICKEY: I can only wish you are right...BUT, unfortunately I believe that IDCC would never get any patents included in a settlement and that MSFT would prevent that from happening. MSFT would probably buy any patents that NOK were looking to disperse of. Just my opinion.
FORM 4's Galore: Why did so many at IDCC get 4,000 shares (Acquired) for $0? Nice payday / bonus. I wish I could fail at my job and get those kinds of rewards...The personal IDCC Piggy Bank continues. I wonder if those Form 4's just brought us more shareholder value.
Hey Mickey...why not get a list of all users of cell phones from AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and the likes and JUST SUE EVERYONE that is using a cell phone since they are using illegally embedded technology. Where would it stop? IDCC should have people breaking down manufacturers phones and analyzing what is actually making them work, what patents of theirs are being used and filing suit accordingly.
Unfortunately Mickey, the Board of Directors, CEO's, etc. have proven their inability to get things right, not just for the shareholders. Years ago, FIREROCKET questioned management and was blasted for it. Heck, I even questioned management and well...that didn't go over well either. I always maintained throughout the years that IDCC, even when they would announce what appeared to be good news or something positive that we still had to worry about the trap door, the hidden story that they just never seemed to tell us. Here we are, all these years later and the company now is playing the "Dumb and Dumber" routine on us. They finally admit to making a mistake in the Apple license. Still management does not give us completely clear details on that license and a reason for not trying to get LTE/4G as part of a new agreement. They never say or give a solid reason for not licensing LTE with any of the majors. It is sad that after all these years, IDCC continues to paint a clouded picture and never quite tell the entire truth IMHO. This stock has always been about good news immediately followed by some bad news. Right now I feel like IDCC is just doing token deals in an attempt to shut investors up. We never even get an idea of what those deals may mean going forward. With revenue dropping and license renewals up in the air, the future may get even cloudier. I am worried!
The oddity continues!!! Wouldn't it be nice to know why IDCC is moving up 3+% so far today. It would be even better if it were for a "GOOD" reason...There's just never any clear signals...always guessing!
JUST THINKING OUT LOUD!!! Why would any company want to license with IDCC unless they get the same type "DUMB DUMB" deal as Apple. And who would feel good about doing a deal with IDCC if they were a licensee who is presently getting hurt by the success of Apple (who has gained a large market share at the expense of others) while Apple has such a sweetheart deal. IDCC apparently has hurt the industry by making such a horrible deal, not just themselves and their shareholders. Maybe this is why IDCC can't get anyone to sign up. I've said this for years...IDCC never ceases to amaze me. They keep opening up another bad door after another. When does it end?
I have to assume that IDCC licensed APPLE to put a feather in its cap. The unfortunate part of this licensing agreement (as I see it) is that (A) Apple got a sweetheart deal for very little return to IDCC (B) Apple has grown rapidly in the wireless arena and has taken market share from our other licensees, lowering revenue that IDCC would have received from those other licensees. This has killed IDCC's bottomline and yet BM and company continue to get bonuses, free shares, etc. while the company has been gradually declining thanks to the APPLE deal. How do people get to keep their jobs when they've virtually wiped out revenue signing a contract without safety provisions in place?
MICKEY: Not that I want to be negative, but FACEBOOK can play just like the rest of the companies until IDCC can enforce, license and get a rate that is fair from everyone that uses its technology. So far, IDCC gets crumbs. The "First In Class" Sales Force has proven not to be successful at getting any solid, top-tier licenses in quite some time. The BOD / Executive Committee needs the hammer slammed down on them. Without gaining industry respect, nobody seems to feel they need IDCC unless they are signing "Convenience Licenses" which I feel the small licensees have done to avoid huge litigation costs.
If court affirms that IDCC can collect the $500,000 bond, then I would have to bet they can collect almost immediately. The bond should now have to be released to IDCC...BUT with ALL THINGS IDCC, somehow Nokia will find a way to create another stall tactic IMHO. We shall see.
YUP DM...I am done venting! You have put me in my place. You single-handedly made me see the light. I did not expect earnings to be as bad as they were. I also did not expect legal costs to be so high considering nothing has been accomplished. It's not like these lawyers are sitting in courtrooms 24/7. They must get a lot of money just to file papers for IDCC.
If IDCC continues its free fall, the company eventually could be worth less then the money they have in assets...LOL!
What a nosedive. IDCC should be proud of themselves. I guarantee that institutions are getting seriously pissed. Something is going to happen and hopefully it is not good for Bill & Co.
Linda Noskewicz is who emailed me that she would talk with me on the phone, but I requested that she respond to my email via email. She basically said NO and that I should call her to discuss my questions and/or concerns. She obviously does not want anything stated in writing.
As for Janet Point, she must be very busy. I guess she is writing her intro-script for June's Shareholder Meeting. Probably having a tough time getting past "Hi, I'm Janet Point...Ummmm...
I guess we should have known based on the time of the Conference Call that we would be in trouble. SICK...SICK...SICK!
With a haircut like we are getting today, I can't imagine what will happen if we lose against NOKIA. How can IDCC just waddle around like a duck in a target practice range? I can't see any of them retaining their positions after this performance.
Madoff carried on a PONZI scheme for how long? How long has IDCC been carrying on? I am not saying they are doing anything illegal, but they certainly have been able to keep this company generating plenty of money for themselves and nothing for us. Unfortunately, I consider investing in a company when a person buys shares in hopes of the company building and growing at a reasonable pace. I don't consider investing when someone plays the quick ups and downs and basically gambles in hopes of winning a quick payday like some here do. Unfortunately, management is in my opinion withholding information from everyone, at the same time hurting us and helping themselves. Again, just my opinion...NO FACTS HERE!
DISGUSTED!!! IDCC has done squat for "SHAREHOLDER VALUE" and has actually harmed it. The continual decline has made IDCC a laughing stock IMHO. This past year of blunders, the AAPL contract, NOKIA, etc. etc. The song they sing never seems to change. I'm starting to fell like the fans from years gone bye of "DEM BUMS" and the ongoing CUBS. Merritt has "NO MERIT" in my eyes. He must go! We need change and we need it fast.
Not looking forward to what the market has to say today! After listening to the conference call last night, I was not happy with the posturing and the attempt by management to try and show (convince) us that they are confident. Just hearing the way Merritt and the lot spoke kind of made me feel like they were walking the plank and the plank was cracking under their feet. I didn't sense anything other then weakness on their part. In my opinion IDCC is hiding too many details from us (as usual). They were very vague in my eyes with their responses to questions. Janet Pointe is lucky to have such a high paying position...I wonder what the secret to her success is. I am prepared for the worst at this point...The opening bell should tell us alot.
All I get from the report is lower revenues and higher cash burn rate. I can't imagine how millions are being spent defending patents and yet nothing ever gets resolved... As usual, the lawyers continue to make tons of money. Too bad we can't invest in them. They seem to have a great revenue flow! So, as reality sets in I am sure this conference call is going to be another waste of time to listen to. When most companies in the wireless world are increasing revenue, we continue to lose. I can't imagine IDCC delivering much going forward with Merritt and company at the helm. I can't fathom how IDCC can give a positive spin that anyone can actually believe in.
Today unfortunately looks like we are heading into the 20's. It is just unbelieveable how IDCC gets hit harder then the market on a regular basis. Of course IDCC sits quietly as we drop. Is this what IDCC meant by shareholder value or did they actually mean "LOSS OF VALUE"? This is getting beyond frustration. I emailed them a couple of weeks ago. I followed up and they responded, but wanted me to call them. They will not respond by typing a response. I wonder why. I told them I can't contact them during business hours due to work responsibilities. Didn't seem to matter...they insist I call.
MY3...I agree! NOKIA needs to be put in their place once and for all. They have in my opinion abused the system or they have circumvented the system by using the systems weakness. Government has to get the system fixed...NO MORE LOOPHOLES, no more ways to drag legal matters out by appealing, no more nuisance suits. No wonder why nothing from local town laws to federal circuit courts...nothing ever seems to get taken care of swiftly. So many wasted years have gone on with the NOKIA's, Ericsson's, Motorola's and the others that try to circumvent the system with legal nonsense. Get rid of the gray areas and get law back to black and white (it's either this or that)...no in-between.
WOW...Firerocket is Back!!!
NOW...in regard to NOKIA vs INTERDIGITAL over the $500,000 dollars they have to pay IDCC...I am amazed that this dispute continues to roll along and the courts allow it too. The court system is so messed up. No wonder IDCC can't get ahead. When will the U.S. Courts finally slam down on Nokia and end this long string of "SCORCHED EARTH TACTICS" brought on by Nokia?
In regard to an officer selling 3,500 shares at $35 recently...Isn't it tax time? Also, many people do home improvements when spring rolls around, just see how Home Depot and Lowes stores look this time of year. I sold shares of stocks this year (not IDCC shares) for just the purpose I stated above. Guessing what that officers reason was is like reading tea leaves.
STANT...I know where the main headquarters are, but the person that responded after I sent a second email asking why I did not get a response on the first letter is at the Melville, NY location on Long Island. I guess Janet was too busy and sent my email off to an underling.
MY3: Shareholder Value should not be a blip rise in price. If I wanted to be greedy, I could have sold at the blip prices. Those highs had no merit. I will say that when the price started to rise last summer I was tempted to finally get out, but believing management that IDCC was deep in quality patents convinced me that IDCC would finally do something substantial...SELL or finally convince others of the need for their patents. NONE of this happened and the slight of hand in my opinion was pure deception. Funny how management has been rewarded so many times over all the years and the shareholders have not been. WELL, next solid run...I will be careful not to stick around for more disappointment. YOU CAN'T TELL ME that you are happy with all that has and/or is going on.
SHAREHOLDER VALUE...I THINK NOT! I honestly bought this stock 12 years ago. My initial cost basis was $32 a share. I was fortunate to buy later and add to my position at very low costs per share so I am still up in my investment. Where is the shareholder value if the stock was at this price 11 to 12 years ago? So why is IDCC no better off then they were back then?...With inflation and all, they are worse off. So what have they achieved over all this time? In regard to the letter I wrote...I did not receive a response until yesterday and that was for me to call them to discuss. I should just drop in on the person that responded to me since they are 15 minutes away from me on Long Island. I personally don't feel like calling. I'd much rather have statements made in writing so there is nothing I could miss. This sucks...so now I have to call. Another waste of time and effort.
Good Morning Mickey: I don't know how much revenue is increased by being able to make more calls since most cell services include cell phone to cell phone communication without using up minutes (FREE). Where the benefit comes from will be when people are surfing the web, watching sports, going on Facebook, etc. and all the revenue the cell service companies get from advertisers, spot ads, etc. The revenues will jump as demand for these services increase and that is where IDCC's technology should benefit big time (if IDCC handles their end properly). Here's hoping IDCC has their fishing lines cast and the sales force (Sub-par class) can begin to actually hook something...But realize, you may get something on the hook but NOW you still have to sink the hook and reel it in.
The sale of patents by AOL to Microsoft is definitely going to raise a flag in regard to IDCC. How can in such a short period of time, AOL gets a deal done with on 800 patents and yet IDCC with all its patents can sell anything? Did Evercore and Barclays botch the whole process? Did management have such pie in the sky expectations that it made it impossible to reach any kind of deal with anyone? Management really needs to address the shareholders and explain why they can't get anything (and I mean anything) done. This is horrible. Merritt and crew should be wearing PUTZ #1, PUTZ #2, etc. tee shirts. How many patents does IDCC hold and/or are pending? This just adds to the questions as to how strong IDCC's patent portfolio really is. Pitiful how everything just seems to be passing IDCC bye.
