-OT-
My apoligies if this is not the proper form / format to post this but I know of no other way, excuse my ignorance.
My Mother, who's Board name this will hopefully post, passed away last night at St. Mary's hospital in Tucson, AZ.
I'm her son and she has been telling me how great this Board is for years, describing the different personalities, in short she was passionate about ya'll and this Board.
I have an Electronics degree and have been in the semiconductor manufacturing industry since 1979 and she knew more about electronic communications then I ever dreamed of.
To those of you that befriended her, I thank you and to those of you who may never have known she was intently reading your every word, I thank you as well.
You should be proud, I can't think of any organized group, regardless of origin that would not only welcome an 80 year old non-technical lady aboard but also keep the attention of a very wise , very intelligent person like my mama.
Thanks for including my Mom.
Regards,
Larry Ott
San Antonio
OT: Danny--I'm certain that this is OT to many members of this board--but I suspect that it is a PRIME topic to you. May success be complete for your coming surgery--we'll miss you. ST1640
OT:Shallow--me too, by golly and The Shadow--ST1640
And Loop, "your opinion" , means much to many on this board.
ST1640
To all attornies, engineers, communication experts, dyed-in-the wool longs, and expecially to JIMLUR--my thanks to each of you (too many to name) for the time and effort you have given this board. I'd have been unimaginably lost without your help. After seven years of rising hopes followed by residence in the pits, it looks as though a celebration is in order. Jim, you should have recorded all of "Houston"--I always did like that song. Thanks to each and every one of you who dispensed your wisdom so freely for all. ST1640
JimLur: Positive thoughts for your quick recovery from the back problems. Also the same thoughts for your wife.ST1640
OT--OT: corp--Remember the Osborne??Heck yes, my daughter still has one in top of closet. Won't part with it. My first was Morrow--remember that??--but I learned word processing on a North Star (first known as a Kentucky Fried Chicken)with PeachText software.Talk about dating yourself. But Goetz's operating system (CPM)was a beautifully written piece of work.Gates certainly, with a couple of changes (PIP to copy for one--recall those?)has amassed a few sheckles from it.ST1640
OT:Glad--thought it applicable in line w/your pic comment.EOM Viv
OT: bulldzr--did you get my e-mail? EOM ST1640
OT: bulldozer: Congrats to Rachel. She appears to be a solid young teen. Sorry RTD isn't here to keep an eye on her as he seemed to follow her career. Give her my best. You guys have a great time at your luncheon.Viv ST1640
OT: Bulldozer--Would that be Rachel, and is she playing softball in college? I wish her well. ST1640
OT: bulldzr--RTD often kidded me about how he was always FOR Houston and ANYONE playing Texas--knowing full well that Texas was my school. His was a gentle soul, and I miss him. Goodnight all, rest well--tomorrow will bring the longs more good news, I trust.
And while I am on the board, my sincerest thanks to JimLur and the other knowledgeable participants on this board who give all of us real support. And Loop--you're the greatest. ST1640
OT:dagrinch---May I join you? I know of several IDCC longs that shuffled off this coil before this day. I lift my glass to each of them. RTD is second only to my brother in that sad list.
ST1640
OT: Loop--how refreshing it is to read your posts. I get fairly confused at some of our poster's takes, so you are a pleasure to read as you are ALWAYS clear. At 80, the complexity of many of the statements made here finds me foggier than San Diego in the morning. Do you miss RTD as much as I do? ST1640
OT: JKJ My thanks to you for following the events in GB. ST1640
OT revlis: Re olddog's contributions to this board. It most assuredly is by me. ST1640
olddog:I would like to thank you for providing excellent information on this board. Your consistent hard work and knowledge should be appreciated by everyone.

OT: Loop--so relieved to hear that you and your mother are OK. Just thankful that Rita pretty much by-passed Houston. And thanks to Jimlur for advising the board of your safety. I will never underestimate what you do for all of us.ST1640
OT: John--from the sound of your post, that operation must have been a "heller"--please tell Loop to go slowly, mind his doctor, and give his body a real chance to recover. I'm not aware of his exact age, but reckon him to be a few years younger than I. Been through a couple of things and found that I did much better when I didn't try to sprint from the blocks right from the get-go. Tell him we are all holding the most positive of thoughts for him. Goodluck and thank you for keeping us informed. ST1640 Viv
Clarence: Thank you for all the effort and time you gave in order to report to the board on the hearing. ST1640
OT:OT--washmaster--can't answer as I let my subscription expire, and I can't garble up Jim's board with personal messages.ST1640
JimLur--As you know, I use your board very little as I have very little of value to offer. Sorry--it was a slow Sunday, so I offered a "hello" to a couple of oil patch buddies. Please forgive, ST1640
OT:Tonbar--just lucky, I guess. And the air I grew up on was mostly in West Texas. Take care ST1640
OT:OT:Hookrider--go back a couple of times a year--to Midland. I read all your posts as we established long ago that you were familiar with my stompin' grounds. Will IDCC make my fortune--the oil patch didn't, but I don't starve. Hang tough--ST1640
PS Sorry, Jim--I won't mess up your board again for a good while.
OT:OT: Tonbar, since I was 6 when we moved to Winkler County--don't know about the wooden Indians--but must have evolved from Quanah Parker--wouldn't you say. I'll take no more of Jim's board to visit--but hang in there--we'll bring in this IDCC well yet-ST1640
OT: Hookrider, are you speaking of Hardeman County, Texas? I was born in Chillicothe 79 years ago--it's a small world, eh? Hello, tonbar--you must have been speaking of that neighborhood? Hi! ST1640
To All: Habu expressed my feelings quite well in his message. I, too, wish to send my thanks to the informed, erudite, intrepid, articulate folks who clarified many parts of this ongoing Nokia/IDCC brouhaha. For all the help, I thank you.ST1640
nieves: May I express my sincere condolences for the loss of your dear brother. No way can we ever repay the families for the loss of their loved ones to this dreadful, hateful war. I am sorry.ST1640
OT:Bless YOUR heart, Whizzer, for keeping MY heart a bit elevated during these trying days. Your positive statements peel a nice clear tone of hope for my ol' 79 year old psyche. A bit of good news at start of '05 would be welcomed.Thank you.ST1640
OT: Forgive me, Jim--this was too good to keep. ST1640
A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.
>John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at
>the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder.
>
>John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
>
>Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.
>
>The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude, inappropriate and unforgivable
>behavior."
>
>John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"
>
>HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

OT:Bill Dalglish--Great to hear of your wife Carol's recovery.ST1640
ot:bulldzr: Possibilities are looming. Am so sad that rtd is not here to share them! I miss the posts of that delightful man.My best to you and your family. ST1640
nieves--Thanks for your post. Any ray of light is welcome. ST1640
JimLur: Not sure what you were testing--but if it were the icon--it downloaded clearly. What kind of PC is the guy attacking? Am I missing something? ST1640
JimLur: As always, you are most helpful, and I thank you.ST1640
To Anyone in or near Melbourne: Can you give me a status of what is happening there? My granddaughter lives there but haven't been able to reach her. She may have evacuated to safer grounds. TIA ST1640
Jimlur: Thank you! Ed's negativity seeped through every word he posted even though he was quite intelligent and articulate. I cannot believe that he actually owns this stock. Surely an owner would find SOMETHING positive to say once in a while. ST1640
OT: art--please send information regarding the flowers you sent for rtd's funeral to vivott@dakotacom.net. Thank you most sincerely. ST1640 Viv
Sorry, should have read the entire board before posting, though I would still like to contribute. ST1640
OT: Loop--you will be missed! Thank you for your contributions to this board, and thank you, too, for giving us a personal account regarding rtd's memorial. I did not know him personally, but his message to me at loss of my husband as well as his many postings of uplifting words to others on this board reveals him as a true gentle man--and gentleman. To lose postings from both of you great guys at near the same time will be a hardship for many of us. Take care of yourself, Loop--and enjoy your friends. ST1640 Viv
Bulldzr:--Thank you for posting the address of rtd's obit. I accessed the Houston Chronicle yesterday, but could not find it. I am so very sorry--I know you two were friends as were the rest of the Cabal. My very deep regrets to each of you. I spoke with rtd via Ma Bell one time when I was in Galveston. What a great guy.
