Hey loop thanks - speaking of memories, I always enjoyed your personal roasts of some of those “geezers.” You, rtd, and the rest always gave me a good chuckle. Good to see you around. Be well friend
Yep, still in. Like loop, looking forward to the day I sell the boat!
Stopping by to see what’s causing the spike, and just noticed that Mickey has passed - RIP to one of the originals. I’m happy to see a lot of old timers still hanging around - hope everyone is well.
Yes, that is her. ee
DR - some are speculating that it could be Sony. does that number seem right to you?
who's the "new licensee?" ee
the news wire headline is confusing - i had to re-read before figuring out we had won. i'm guessing that's what the rest of the uninformed market is thinking as well...
i don't think it will matter, as the company will be sold within days/weeks/months anyway....
Ron S has a note out per twitter. eom
i'm somewhat talking out of my ass, but it just seems easier and more natural for the stock to gap from a starting point of $80-$90 to its final destination than from a starting point of $55.....i imagine the talking heads on TV (not that it should matter) would place extra scrutiny on any company jumping that much (100%+), and just create more FUD until the deal is finally closed...
perhaps this author was leaked something purposely to 'prep' the market?
Apples and oranges....should have little to no effect on IDCC.
blueflag
what, is that AAPL's opening bid? gee, wouldn't that be nice...
Yes, sorry - I misunderstood you - of course the deal likely won't close for awhile after, but i'm sure it will be announced w/in days of start of bidding.
Imagine if we get a CAFC reversal between now and then OH LAWDY
I_Q, didn't the entire NT auction occur in 4 days? why would IDCC spill into October/November? The buyers can't wait imho - they want to scoop up patents while they're hot..
At what price will the bidding start?
Sounds like there will be an auction, with many familiar faces joining the action (AAPL, NOK, QCOM, etc). If this goes as quickly as NT, this can be announced by Sep 9th. I wonder what the starting price level will be....$4B? $5B? Stalking horse anyone?
my take after reading the scuttlebutt from the street, the analysts, and the media this morning is that these patent battles are far from over. today's transaction just further highlights the need for IP and our value in the industry. hang on to your hats, the ride will continue to be wild...mo
CAFC would be nice today....eom
the guy from twitter that was alleged to have spread some of the recent negative rumors that floated around...
well well well...look who's here..
I thought this was the express elevator to 82?
we would have seen $74-75 this afternoon were it not for those rumors.
if they are referring to 2G, then i actually would kinda agree with that statement.....too bad the shorts don't get it..
supposedly it was someone from GTT Group. eom
my guess is Google, Samsung, and HTC are already in....since most of the companies involved in the process so far (including AAPL) are already familiar with IDCC and their portfolio, I don't anticipate their DD will take anywhere near as long as NT. I do think however that a holdup could come from within each consortium and how much each would pay and how patents would be shared and/or divied up - esp from the GOOG side. HTC and Samsung for example both want Android to succeed, yet they are also competing against one another (and others)....i imagine any talks between those 2 alone could be tricky. jmo
I disagree - a potential buyer 100x the size of IDCC could leverage much better deals imo.
Our value should be enhanced though because there is no red tape with any part of our process (ie, not nationalized, no conflicts with internal divisions/manufacturing). Plus, throw in the engineers and i think our position is the most desirable - one price gets the buyer everything they could want and nothing they don't.
blue, should we be celebrating Luckern's retirement, too? Looks like Kodak is!
Judge Luckern is retiring effective TODAY:

I think a bidding war is a given. Also since this isn't a controlled bidding process like NT, anything can happen at any time (like this week). Considering the position GOOG is in, I expect them to bid hard, high, and fast. They can't let IDCC hang out for sale for too much longer and let the competition truly value IDCC's portfolio. I expect GOOG to make an aggressive opening bid, and top any counter bids in the end. They can't lose this one. MO

What if IDCC standalone declares 2%, but a GOOG-controlled IDCC thinks they can leverage something >4% (for example)? Wouldn't this declaration possibly impede a potential acquirer? I dunno...but in the midst of this buyout talk, i'd rather the company not do much on the licensing front...mo
haha Loop - always a classic.
time certainly does fly, unfortunately...i can't believe i'm coming up on 12 years in this company....i never thought it would take this long!!...still nice to meet some great people along the way though..
Bingo Loop, and that's what a lot of people don't understand when trying to figure out how/why IDCC could fetch such a high price based only on current licensees, financial history, etc...
The value is based on the usage strength of the potential suitors, not the smaller inventors.
Hey Fish
things are going well, thanks.....still not married - we're looking at 2012.....been back to chicago a lot over the past month or so, and other than that just busy with work.
still long and strong, though unfortunately a vast majority is in my IRAs.
what's new with you? hope all is well
sigh...ok fine, i suppose i'll take $7 billion...
lol rox, i'm a working stiff....dont have time like i used to...
um wow. was this today's journal?? eom
hey rox, can you elaborate on who/what "IV" is? and when you say, fortress, are you referring to the hedge fund? tia
OT: M3S, definitely. i'm sure i'll make it up to w-chester soon enough. my fiancee already has her eye on moving out of the city...
