Magic Bullet...
Have you found the magic bullet here????? This is interesting Ocroft.... What percentage of your trades were winners???? Avg % you gained per trade??? Avg length of time between buy/sell signals???? Did you employ any stop loss measures to limit draw downs??? Best regards, Ken
Rebounding nicely.....
After a -10% decline plus in more than a week, I've more than made that up in the last 2 days... I seem to not be attached to the indexes in any way, shape, or form... I own "whiplash" stocks I guess... Usually it's hard to grind forward and up, only for fall backs to happen at the snap of your fingers, especially with low priced, thin market stocks... I think I'll go out now and hike the Benton County Country Club in a golf cart... Profit from your ideas! You also get a "mulligan" on the first tee...
Earnings reports....
are due out this week... Buckle up!
Hi Tom,
I've gone nothing but backwards since my update... All red arrows over here on Friday too...
Update..........
YTD thru 5/1/2018... 90% Stock... 10% Cash... Avg at Risk 61.52%... ROCAR 48.81%... Simple Return 30.03%... 24 Buys... 29 Sells... April was a very good month for "The Pocket Change Portfolio"... Added another security this past month to trade... Record high for 2018 to date... Profit from your ideas!
Hi Tom, Wild
This month has been wild... Way up... Then way down... Now back to up with a sale yesterday on one of my laggards... Profit from your ideas! Best regards, Ken
Hi Steve,
Same here, price updates don't work anymore... I too have never received a response to my emails... Profit from your ideas! Best regards, Ken
Held there.....
Anyone ever notice this??? One of your stocks opens up or down a few cents in the first half hour..... Then is just held there, all day, within a few cents, with well above average volume..... Seen this happen on multiple days too... Also when the overall indexes are way up or down, doesn't matter... Somebody is either being let in or out the door, depending on which side of the trade I suppose... Also, punch a market order and it goes thru like sell 800 shares at market and your confimations(plural) are for 13, 13, 17, 19, 50 ,50 ,50, 200, 3, 7, and finally 428 shares and it executed completely... Put it in a limit order, all or none, and they'll skip around it for hours, if it ever does fill... Now, come on... Nobody trades 3 shares, or 13, or 17, shares, let alone multiple times on stocks priced under $5... Can't explain it, don't understand it, other than it's a "LANGUAGE" seemingly coded from market maker to market maker, as to what they want, or need next... My assumption is so they can electronically, in those flash milli-seconds read how deep are the bids and asks... JMHO... Profit from your ideas!
Cash earnings,
My take on it? Are your cash holdings large enough to make a difference vs the risk? There's nothing wrong with holding a very low duration corporate bond fund for these purposes, nice yield mid 2's, but your going to have to keep a sharp eye out for a turning South economy, credit risk, or rising rates. Credit risk would be the biggie on a economy turning sour. Seems really late in the game to maybe even consider. But as a "general rule" there's nothing wrong with taking some credit risk in an expanding economy. My other thought is to check muni rates on short duration too and get the tax advantages. Profit from your ideas!
Hi Steve, Pay raise...
I see Tom roped you in to being the "assistant board moderator"... So what kind of pay raise was involved to get you to sign the contract? Multi-year deal? Or just a one off? Any perks? Company car? Golf at the country club? Inquiring minds want to know and I'm inquiring! Congrats on the promotion! Don't forget us peon freebies on here! LOL! Best regards, Ken
Hi Toof, Yesterday
I went nowhere yesterday! Actually, -$11 bucks... Profit from your ideas!
Hi Allen,
He's not been on here for awhile... You could try to send a message to him... --->>>> https://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/profilea.aspx?user=11807

Hi Steve, Re: Rates
When we got married, August of 1981, the mortgage rates were 17 1/2% at the national banks and 17 1/4% at the savings and loans... We purchased our house on a contract for 12%... Few years later local savings and loans bought it out and we paid 12 3/4%... Dreyfus Worldwide Dollar Money Market was paying 8 1/2 to 9% back in the day... Great to see you back on the board! Best regards, Ken

Hi Toof,
Agreed, dividends too low but I like that idea! Best regards, Ken
Hi Tom, Re:"(living expenses included)"
I'm off to a great start for 2018, so I too have just yanked some money back this way... Going to use other people's money that's now in my account to put in a new "Triple Safe" sump pump system, put in a new water softener and filtration system, plus pay the property taxes for this year... Saw your "living expenses" notation, reminded me of your buddy that just trades Ford (F), so every few years he buys a new one... We'll see how the rest of the year goes, a new Honda for Pam is on the short list... Hopefully by this fall... Bounce back today looks weak to me... Keep up the good work.... Best regards, Ken
Hi SF,
That's a great question! If we're going to move PC up, at regular intervals, then how can we say we've "locked" in the profits on the last sell???? There's nothing about this in the book that I can find... +Inflation over time on the PC kinda makes sense, but really not much more than that just as a quick thought... Profit from your ideas!
Update...
YTD thru 3/29/2018... 40% Stock... 60% Cash... Avg Capital at Risk 55.15%... ROCAR 37.19%... Simple Return 20.51%... Annual Return 136.77%... 15 Buys... 22 Sells... March was a very good month for "The Pocket Change Portfolio"... Profit from your ideas!
Hi Allen,
Somewhere around 2.7% looks to be a good number... If I did this I guess I'd jack the PC up the 1st of every January... Would you also lower it in a deflationary period? I'd say so, but again I've not done this over the years... Best regards, Ken
Hi Adam,
I've never put in a inflation type PC increase yearly... But I think it's a great idea that makes sense... Profit from your ideas! Best regards, Ken
Hi Tom, 2 Sells...
Tripped another sell just a few moments ago ... So 2 sells today to end the 1st quarter... Nice uptick in the indexes all afternoon... Update to follow after the bell...
Hi Tom,
Rung up a sell order early on today... But at this moment a quick snapshot would show ask's are overwhelming the bid's... So almost a wash in the total portfolio but signs look weak at the moment, 5 hours to go...
Dilly Dilly,
Last day of the first quarter dilly dilly!
Addition,
I put some cash back to work and picked up a Scientific & Technical Instrument company this past week... I'm a bit aggressive to the V-Wave model, but not too far... Profit from your ideas!
Sells/ Cash...
Two more sells yesterday so I'm rolling in cash over here... I'll be combing Finviz this weekend to add another position come first of next week... Profit from your ideas!
Hi Jon,
Couple of sells yesterday put me at 65% cash... With the oscillator negative, next sell signal I might just move the controls up(Vealie) now that I've moved above the 60% target of the V-wave... Profit from your ideas! Best regards, Ken
Hi Tom. Sells / Poof Funds
Got in a couple nice sells yesterday and that puts my cash at 65%, not bad for a crummy day for the overall market... It would seem to me that any "TRUE" 3X fund that had a -34% loss in the underlying stock shares would indeed go "POOF"... There wouldn't/ couldn't be enough left to work your way out of that mess... As a side note, when my son was in high school one of his classes had a stock contest... So he came to me... We picked up a few GE, Disney, Coke, Microsoft, etc just to throw everyone off, the rest, bulk of his funds went into the Rydex 2X funds both bull and bear, and we played them off each other... He won the contest easily, nobody close! Short time frame so I thought we'd use those Rydex funds, it worked... Profit from your ideas! Best regards, Ken
Hi G,
That was very well stated... Profit from your ideas!
Re: Dialog,
I think, and it's just what I think, it's nearly impossible for me or anyone else to answer your metrics questions... I have no idea who you are? What age? Risk tolerance? Goal or goals? Length of time you want to be in a position? Where from there? Can you read financial statements? Can you understand such financial statements put out by corporations? And on and on and on... I do know what I'm doing, I checked out of the work force at age 56... But that doesn't mean I or anyone else can help you with that on this board... I do know if you suggest something and it doesn't work for people you suggest it to, they'll jump right on you about it!!! ... As Tom once typed to me, there's tons of proprietary information floating around out there on these boards... But all that info doesn't help if your not willing to use it...
Re: Find,
Two of my favorite are C.E.F.A, Closed End Fund Assoc... and the other is Finviz using their stock screener... Punch in your parameters and see what pops up... Profit from your ideas!
Hi Tom, Sliding...
Been a rough first week of March over here too and I've slid back down the hill some... Got a sell in the first hour today so that certainly helps turn the ship back around... I see your sandbox is still kicking "fanny" over there! Go SANDBOX Go! Profit from your ideas!
Hi Jon,
You and me brother, everyone else is A.W.O.L.!!!!!
Update...
YTD thru 2/28/2018... 68% Stock... 32% Cash... Avg Capital at Risk 56.37%... ROCAR 21.12%... Simple Return 11.90%... Annual Return 131.12%... 11 Buys... 11 Sells... Profit from your ideas!
Hi Adam,
I had a sell yesterday in all that excitement... Crazy... Sitting about mid-range as I type... Profit from your ideas! Best regards, Ken
Congrats Toof,
Always a good feeling to hit the sell button... Don't you sleep better now that other people's money is in your account??? Grin...
Hi Tom, Start...
My holdings were down -3.74% in price, but our system over here has turned that into a +1.23%, so not too bad I guess... There was no action over here the first couple weeks of January, then boom everything started to move a bit... I'm kinda mid-range-ish on most at the moment so I don't expect anything too soon... If given a choice I'd rather pop off another sell before a buy... Great results for you, congrats! Your "Sandbox" is leading the way! Best regards, Ken
Update...
First Update for 2018... Currently 64% Stock... 36% Cash... Avg Capital at Risk 60.84%... ROCAR 2.02%... Simple Return 1.23%... Annualized Return 11.99%... 6 Buys... 4 Sells... Profit from your ideas!
Hi Tom, Re: 30 days
I've always disagreed with the 30 day rule in the book, and I don't use it... Things can happen so fast in these markets... Why do I feel this way? Well let's take 1987 for example, Oct 19th was the crash... If you got a buy in that day, your then on the sidelines until Nov 19th, and then by Christmas of that year it seemed like 70% of the crash was already made back up.... That would of just left Nov 19th as the only other day to buy besides Oct 19th... I've always tried, and I'm not perfect by any stretch, to just pull this trigger whenever a parameter I've set has been met... Time seems arbitrary, not relevant to me... Don't care if it's been 30 seconds, minutes, hours, or days I just buy it or sell it as my parameters dictate... I'm not saying I'm right... I'm just saying that's what I do... I'm sure there's data out there that can prove either method superior, or equal... And that type of data doesn't interest me, as I think time should not be in the buy/sell equation... Just my 2 cents... Finally global warming here today, 45! Best regards, Ken
Hi Tom, Re: 30 Years,
Congrats! That's awesome!
