My scary ride, transmission locked-up at 65MPH (Locking both rear-wheels, causing a series of 360-degree spins)..on the expressway. On a car only 6-months-old!
Ended up blocking an off ramp, (Did I mention it got FOGGY?) and pushing in the clutch did nothing, couldn't get it off the ramp.
My wife and children were in the car at the time.
Then you abso-LUTLY need a plan for evacuation. When I lived in apartments, had a storage-area in basement. Had a couple chairs and a battery-powered radio. Also find out where the gas shut-off is, if gas is used.
Me too. Hard to tell, he doesn't complain. And 'food' does interest him...he just can't handle it.
Yep, I see where that did occur. Up at dawn wens/thurs and I didn't post on thurs, too busy with the garden. (Really)
...then can't walk Friday. (Or get out of bed or chair, or down on the toilet without a cane or crutch.)
Internet goes intermittent Friday mid-day.
Lazer's sick on Sat.
...Wow, Fun week! (Still better than YOUR Wild-Ride!)
They have a basement there?
I'm OK Gail. (mostly) I had a couple days where I was incapacitated, (bedrest for impacted-hip) and then the cable internet was futzed-up....and more storms, so it could happen again.
Lazer's sick as well, he's been to the Vet sat. ($240) and they gave him 3-4 shots at once, (I wasn't along)...bad idea.
poor 'lil guy's been tossing his cookies since that evening.
I have him on tiny-amounts of bland diet (1 or 2 tablspoons of boiled chicken and rice.) I just checked him, he's resting.
Making a baked Chicken for Shelley and I later, cauliflower and cheese-sauce, cornbread stuffing and cranberry-sauce.
The VERY-Best I've had were from Florida. Salt-Air and seashells in the soils, I suppose. They were the sweetest I ever had.
You can cut 'em in 1/4" slices...bread 'em in cornmeal, fry them.
I love them that way.
For stew and soup, one good plant will produce more than enough. (Even here in Wisconsin!)...and you can freeze the whole pods, with NO prep. Toss 'em in a bag and freeze.
Yep. We ARE fortunate to have a basement, or I would put in a storm-cellar. Incidence of Tornados in Wisconsin (Our area too) seem to be increasing. A lot over the past few-years has just been high winds....but....There was the tornado just a couple miles from us. (3 years ago, maybe 4)
Yeah, we got creamed for awhile. Heavy, Heavy Rains last night too. And soaking-rain most of today.
Good for the stuff I managed to get planted last wens/thurs.
Holy crap!
A little thunder/lightning, and the power flickered.
Lazer came running. (LOL!) He doesn't like the lights to go off!
Think I'll sign-off for awhile.
I think the person (Or persons) responsible have since moved out of the area...but there was a couple thefts of Brand-New gas-grill from our neighbors. I'll probably get a new one some day, after I can't get parts...or lid or base gets cracked, lol.
I have a gas grill, and I toss wood-chips right in the grill. What little ash is produced can be swept-out or rinsed-out with water. (Remember to remove grease-catcher-cup first.)
Our grill is older than 15 years. I have replaced the burners and Drip-shield a couple time each, the grill-top once. (The cooking surface)
We like Mesquite wood, applewood is milder, but also great.
Don't holler 'bout no-pics, but for Shelley's Birthday I grilled a couple 1 and 3/4" porterhouse steaks, Rare W/3 onion-ring garnish, Sourcream & Chive twice-baked potatoes, steamed asparagus-spears.
The steaks were SOOoo Good! A local shop sells some great aged-beef, and to that I added My seasoning (a 'Lee & Perrins' based marinade) and they were tasty and tender!
...I-hub has an issue, or my computer does. Mailbox notification is overlaid on 'Favorites' task/toolbar.
Looks yummy. I dunno why, but I never tried grilling tomatoes.
Our supper is already made, did a peasoup & hambone yesterday, with homemade breadsticks. I had plans to try and get some things done today, 'Between the Rain-Drops', but its still soaking out.
Three weeks ago, the weather persons were saying we were below average precip..I think we must have corrected that, and THEN some.
I was logged-in to the hub, I getting this feeling something was missing....
....And then I realised Andy hadn't busted my chops in Weeks!
So I just had to check around.
we don't have that store. (That I'm aware of.)
I did some searching, this place (Spicejungle) has good pricing, and one of the reviews mentioned NO shipping charge. I have never used them.
How much you order depends on how it's used. Gumbo is USUALLY thickened with Okra...but this was only when in season, otherwise it was Cajun-traditional to use the File' to thicken the broth. To me, that sounds like more sasasfras than I'd care for.
Here's the spice link,

...Yep, sorta. Haven't had frost for awhile, bought some plants yesterday. Still have soaking-rains (yesterday, day before, today as well) and I'll have to wait for the ground to dry to till it up.
What little I have tilled is appropriate for sunflowers, but not tomatoes.
He tried to argue, he meant eat a raw one. But that wasn't what he actually said.
He was kinda a grouchy sort. Didn't really like kids very much. I may have been his only friend under 50, lol. I think I'm older now, than he was when he passed away..
Break a twig, smells like rootbeer, ya got it.
A compound in the roots and branches (And bark) called sasfrole (Or something like that) is carcinogenic. (Also found in lesser amounts in cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper.)
...But nearly none of it is present in the leaves. The leaves are ground to make fil'e.
Yep, good to know. I thought he might be at the farm, but he usually says something about going.
I'll bug him later..
I was thinking 'bout you yesterday, when I read about how they are going to start producing "Coffee-Flour". Supposed to be quite-good, 'specially in chocolate and baked goods.
They're going to make it from the "Cherry", and the beans then go on to be dryed/roasted.
...Geez, I sure hope that their talking about BBQ-pork!
As a child, the heat/pain buds on my tongue musta not worked.
I used to put tabasco-sauce on white bread when I was really little, (About 5, I think)..because that was all I could reach on my own...if Mom was busy.
I was eating one of those sandwich's and our female cocker-spaniel was begging for some. I said, "You don't want this!"...Oh YES she did! Dad had trained her to eat what she begged for. She ate the bit I gave her. Her eyes got a little bigger. She went over and emptied her water-dish, then Whined at the door.
I let her out.
Never saw that dog again....My brother still brings that up.
We used to catch 'em (As kids) on the Fox River, one at a time..by hand. For quite awhile the bait shops (2) would give 3-4 cents a piece for the BIG-ones.
Eventually the price went way down, one shop said he'd take the big ones at a penny apiece. (I'm 12 yrs old, at this time)
I said, "A PENNY!..I'd sooner eat them myself!"
He said, "Give Ya a doller If'n Ya do!"...I looked at the postman who was in the shop and said "You heard 'em, right?"..he nodded
Told the shop owner I'd be back to eat one the next day.
I brought 6 large boiled ones the next day, got my dollar. Also he started buying them from me again, a nickel apiece.
Sassafras tree,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sassafras
I've found them in the Land 'o Lincoln before, from Sessor to cave-in-rock.
I put a crapload in my boat one year. There were some mouse droppings visible in the spring, after the tight covers came off.
..Although there wasn't any wiring damage.
That was the first year I had the boat, was stored in a leased barn.
This year, the boat's in a shelter..but uncovered, and a couple set traps and one covered bait. Absolutely no mice (That I could see..) in the boat. I always used to cover the boat.
In the glue trap, it was a mouse...he/she didn't get loose. Another trap got a 13-stripe ground squirrel, he got away...but lotsa fur didn't!
Time to exit the house, got to get something for the Wife's birthday dinner.
One of the victims or the stickytrap, was 10 or more feet away from contact-point, under a toolbox...traces where he'd gotten stuck on the outer studwall, ect, ect.
The only way I'd ever use them again, would be to strap them securely-down, and only in small enclosed areas like a auxiliary-generator housing, or under the hood of a vehicle. (To protect the wiring)
My experience with the "sticky's", they get away. (Or suffer more than I'm willing to subject them to.)
About drain fields not absorbing, I've heard of various things to "Open them up."...From Dynamite down drilled holes, to compressed-air or steam injection to crack hardened soils.
...Sorta like "Fracking", lol.
There seems to be quite abit of "Politics driving Law-enforcement" in the Milwaukee City area.
The "Talent" could be better used reducing the homicide rate.
I believe there isn't any problem in adults using pot for recreational purposes. It's not the "evil-weed" sometimes portrayed by fanatics.
If legalized for that use, penaltys for distribution to minors is fine by me....stiff penaltys.
Medicinal use is for sure, OK. In fact it would likely help with the chronic-pain I have. (And likely to have, the rest of my life)
My older brother is also in favor of legalization. Currently a retired Major, he had served in the Marines in Vietnam, had returned to the United States where he was able to take Officer's training in the army (Apparently Rank is earned quicker in the army) and returned for another tour in Vietnam...as combat-duty could increase the likelihood of advancement in rank. He also served in Germany (On the west/east border.) during the cold war. his last active-duty posting was in the Pentagon.
...I guess what I'm saying, He's fairly-well conservative.
I looked at the link Gman posted, the press and sets, are the one's I used.
http://www.tomcat.com/smg/goprod/tomcat-press-n-set-mouse-trap/prod11200004
...He also whines if it's teenage girls, he likes kids and girls because they make the biggest fuss over how cute he is.
One of my neighbors, (A retired couple) gets theirs pumped twice a year, sometimes..There is obviously something wrong over there.
I suspect they have either a blockage in the run to the drainfield, or they were letting the backwash from a water-softener go into the septic. Backwash from softeners add salt to the effluent. Salt causes some clay soils to harden, no-longer allowing liquid to drain away.
Good for the economy!
Weather here is improving, yesterday was sunny and in the 60's...I opened the sidedoor, (Stormdoor, all-glass still there) and Lazer spent most of the day watching for intruders!
Every now and then he'd growl softly (Jogger, Bike or car) and occasionally a little whine. (Small children walking with their Mom's)
He had a Great Day.
...I liked the money when I was working. But it's OK, Doc says I shouldn't eat steak anyway, lol.
I'm signed up for SS, but won't get the first payment 'till Aug.
purty good. I been staying busy.
A lot of tourists flooding-in for the Derby?
I avoid stuff like "Ghost-Peppers", but I find a bit of "bite" OK. Last couple years or so, I've been adding Hungarian sharp and half-sharp paprika to different stuff. It imparts a bit of heat, but different than hot pepper..as it doesn't burn the tongue.
Yep. Walmart has crayfish, dunno if you can find sassafras. Might be some in woods near ya.
