Diesel Technology Forum
It seems to me that the industry leaders have come together trying to inform the public of the values of Clean Diesel Technology. This is one of things that is going on in the economy that we are not hearing much about. Maybe that is about to change.
corky:o)
Members of the Diesel Technology Forum and other industry thought leaders were asked to share their voice on clean diesel technology. They reflect on the environmental progress of clean diesel technology and the public policy challenges that lie ahead as the U.S. strides toward a clean energy economy and works to embrace an “all of the above” energy strategy.

ThermaCat in the news
Funded by an $800,000 federal grant awarded through the Ga. Department of Natural Resources, the 70 buses will be retrofitted with a ThermaCat Filter System. The diesel particulate filter system reduces the particles that come from the tailpipe by capturing and burning the exhaust in a box.

Engines and Technologies
Now here:o)is an interesting article speaking of increased use of diesel engines.
Engines that run on diesel fuel may become more popular in the United States now that new emission control technologies are allowing for a wide range of diesel engines to meet federal and state air quality standards, the report says. Replacing a 2007 model spark-ignition engine with a base-level CI diesel engine – including a six-speed dual clutch transmission and other efficiencies – could reduce fuel consumption by about 33 percent, and with an RPE of about $4,800 for a six-cylinder engine. Advanced CI diesel engines, expected to reach the market in the next five years, could reduce fuel consumption an additional 7 percent to 13 percent, with estimated vehicle RPE cost of about $4,600 for small passenger cars to $5,900 for intermediate or larger vehicles.

GWMAN:o)remember this. Permissible Cat. Just ran across this 2008 article.
The future is looking bright. Bucyrus has just released an MSHA approved 150 HP diesel power pack consisting of the Deutz 1013 FC engine and Bucyrus designed emissions control system. The Bucyrus 150 HP diesel power pack, utilizing a Tier II engine coupled with the unique emissions control technology, provides the lowest vent rate per horse power of any power pack on the market today and superior filter life can be expected because of the reduced diesel particulate matter. Bucyrus’ 150 HP power pack is used in diesel scoops and haulage vehicles. It can also be used to re-power older generation ramcars and utility vehicles that require upgrades to meet new emissions standards.
The Bucyrus design team has also developed fully electronic controls and digital dash boards. A Bucyrus Diesel Control System (DCS) is also available for the diesel product group and intense development is currently underway on the design of an electronic 225 HP diesel power pack to meet EURO 3 and 4 and US Tier III standards.

Retrofits for All--Tugboats, Trucks and Trains
The tugboat project is part of the efforts of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (a member of the West Coast Collaborative) to reduce particulate emissions from tugboats operating in the Puget Sound. The EPA grant allocates more than $700,000 for the retrofit of the four 4,000-horsepower marine engines on the Garth and the Lindsey, both boats operating in Foss Maritime’s fleet in Puget Sound. The engines will be retrofitted with technology developed by Environmental Solutions Worldwide, a pollution-reducing device called the XtrmCat (TM) Diesel Oxidation Catalyst.

David J. Johnson, president and CEO of the Concord, Ontario-based ESW, said, “This project can serve as a model for long-term diesel emissions reductions for the entire marine sector. Moreover, the technology is designed to meet the demanding environment of high horsepower marine engines with no impact on vessel performance. We are proud to be working with a group of partners dedicated to taking on the challenge of implementing emissions reductions in marine vessels ahead of legislated requirements.”

Navistar may look like a risky stock, but Cramer said it could be a real moneymaker.

Part of the Navistar’s business is the making of mine-resistant MRAP vehicles. If the Department of Defense gets its budget approved tomorrow, the U.S. MRAP fleet could jump from 2,000 to 14,000. That’s a great catalyst for the company with 44% of the orders.
But Navistar’s main business is truck engines, and it controls about a third of that market. The company trades at a discount compared to competitors Cummins Cummins IncCMI

We are not a one product company, we have about ten products and management is moving these products out of R&D into the marketplace that needs them.
As I have said before I retired from the auto industry and I understand that products of this kind takes time being excepted into the industry, these are major and costly changes to engine design.
Let me give you that link again:o)

If you have been looking at the other technologies, they all need to retain as much heat from the engine as possible in order for the catalyst to work properly. A great deal of heat is lost before the emissions even reach the emission control device, it can be as much as 100 degrees lost. You need to take another look at some of the other technologies and how they work:o)
"This new line has the potential to become a leading product in the industry by enabling the highest performing diesel catalyst technology available to be applied to an engine. The demand for the TempMax(TM) has been excellent and we are currently in the process of broadening the demographic to fit other engine and vehicle applications for both on and off-road markets."
From MECA:
"Since the volume of particulate matter generated by a diesel engine is sufficient to fill up and plug a reasonably sized filter over time, some means of disposing of this trapped particulate must be provided. One means of disposal is to burn or oxidize the particulate in the filter, thus regenerating, or cleansing, the filter. This is accomplished through the use of a catalyst placed either in front of the filter or applied directly on the filter, a fuel-borne catalyst, or burners which are used to oxidize or combust the collected particulate."

In addition to working on this new consensus, EPA has been collaborating throughout the Asia-Pacific region to promote energy security, reduce pollution and address the long-term challenge of global climate change. For example, through EPA’s Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate, we are developing and deploying new technologies and voluntary approaches to help our international neighbors responsibly grow their economies.

Reading Short Interest
twlack, this link may also be of help to you.

A large increase or decrease in a stock's short interest from the previous month can be a very telling indicator of investor sentiment. Let's say that Microsoft's (MSFT) short interest increased by 10% in one month. This means that there was a 10% increase in the amount of people who believe the stock will decrease. Such a significant shift provides good cause for us to find out more. We would need to check the current research and any recent news reports to see what is happening with the company and why more investors are selling its stock.

GWMAN:o)it is my opinion that it will take at least two more quarters maybe three of equal or increasing sales and revenue before the company is able to break the hold of the naked shorters on our share price.
We still have to prove to the investing public (and we will) that we can preform as a on going concern, as you pointed out on the yhaoo board.
From all that I can find out about the different technologies, our substrate is the must flexible and the most durable of the new emission control technologies, and it is being set up for wide distribution.
Myself and some of the other longs have been following this company and the global warming story sence around 1999-2000 feeding each other information. We knew it would take five years just to get the engine makers to test and except our products, then five more years for marketing and distribution. We are ahead of schedule in my opinion. And management is doing a great job of steering this young company through this maze. Getting this technology in front of the right people.

What Is the Kyoto Protocol?
It is a pact agreed by governments at a 1997 U.N. conference in Kyoto, Japan, to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by developed countries by 5.2 percent of 1990 levels during the five-year period 2008-2012. A total of 141 nations have ratified the pact, according to U.N. data.
