The 13% could be just a temporary January drop.........housing tends to pick back up in the spring.
I posted to someone else yesterday that Toll Brothers backlog is 7200 units, already sold........
I think there is too much risk to go long the homebuilders, but I wouldn't short either.....they have a tendency to outlast you.............
It's good............also Fargo was mentioned, another great Coen film
Miller's Crossing a third one is pretty decent.
Blood Simple
The Coen brothers' magnificent feature film debut
Scumbag private eye Walsh plans the perfect crime when he's hired by a Texan bar owner to kill his wife (McDormand) and her lover (Getz). But the ploy to fool his employer with mocked up photographic evidence goes spectacularly awry when his shortcut is discovered, and Walsh is forced to knock off the adulterous couple after all.
Jet-black, wickedly funny and driven by an ingenious plot, the film holds all the clues to the Coens' peerless future, including bizarre deaths, itching paranoia and Walsh's delicious performance of sweat-stained villainy.
Front page of this morning's Washington Times:
Torrid housing market chills
By Patrice Hill
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
An unexpected 9.2 percent drop in new home sales in January and a 13 percent drop in the median home price provided the latest signs that the red-hot housing market may finally be cooling, economists said.
The fall-off in sales was among homes costing more than $200,000, with the biggest losses in the Northeast, Midwest and South. Sales of more affordable homes under $200,000 grew -- resulting in a median price drop of $30,000, to just under $200,000, the Commerce Department reported yesterday

Thanks Chrisau:
I will forward on.............looks pretty cheap.
I'm pretty sure backlog is signed contracts, price has already been decided. I'm neither long nor short the homebuilders.......

Need some help with this problem for my sister-in-law:
Thanks in Advance!
When I purchased my Compaq laptop last year it included Microsoft Works. I bought the Microsoft Office upgrade package so that I could add Excel, Word, PowerPoint. I could use the upgrade pkg. rather than the full pkg.
because MS Works was already loaded. I had a virus which required the hard drive to be wiped clean. The restoration disk does not contain Works, as a result I cannot load the upgrade. So, now the problem is I purchased this upgrade for over $200 a year ago and if I can't use it I will have to spend $300 more to purchase the whole package. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
At the end of the quarter, Toll Brothers had a backlog of $4.89 billion, or 7,292 homes. That's a 66% increase over the company's previous record backlog of $2.95 billion, or 5,079 homes. The luxury home builder also controls 63,000 home sites (many in desirable locations where land is hard to come by), which works out to a supply that should last for five to six years based on the historical pace of expansion.

Another one of my favorite songs of all time.

You want to hear "small world"?
I was traveling in Cannes Australia in '89, in a bar up where the Great Barrier Reef is. Hand the guy my Chevy Chase Visa to start tab, he says he was from Cambridge, MD. I tell him my brother just married a girl from Cambridge, by the name of *******(last name), he says *****(first name)! I went to school with her!
I'm on the other side of the globe, and this guy went to HS with my sister-in-law.

I first saw Sleepy LaBeef at the Severna Park Elks Lodge outside Annapolis, MD in 1990. I claim it was my first date with my wife, she claims since I invited her girlfriend also, it doesn't qualify..............
Also saw him at the old Twist & Shout in Bethedsa, MD, a VFW hall, that inspired "Down at the Twist & Shout" by Mary Chapin Carpenter.
Thanks again.
Thanks!
I challenge you to find Sleepy La Beef

Signed contracts, revenues, earnings...........<ggg>
It still boils down to a "product" coming to market.
Is the patent worth anything.
Can this battery be produced?
A 10% dilutive secondary shouldn't reduce the stock price by more than 10%, should it?
Of course it all depends on how "real" their news is........Is this product able to come to market and how quickly?
ALTI:
From yesterday:
I also asked him if ALTI intended to announce a secondary offering or shelf registration within the next 2 weeks, but he was unable to offer any guidance on that <g>
How funny is that..............not too funny if one were long...........
'Crazy' Teddy Bear Won't Be Sold Anymore
now on ebay current bid is $252.00

By DAVID GRAM, Associated Press Writer
MONTPELIER, Vt. - After weeks of protests, Vermont Teddy Bear Co. has agreed to stop producing and marketing a "Crazy For You" bear that had angered advocates for the mentally ill, four advocacy groups said Thursday.
Company spokeswoman Nicole L'Huillier said the statement issued by the groups was "a little bit inaccurate," but would not immediately elaborate.
The $69.95 bear — which comes with a straitjacket and commitment papers — no longer appeared on the company's Web site Thursday.
The Valentine's Day (news - web sites) bear was criticized as insensitive by mental health advocates and Republican Gov. James Douglas.
The Vermont chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and three other groups said their representatives met with company president and chief executive Elisabeth Robert on Tuesday.
"We praise Ms. Robert and Vermont Teddy Bear Company for its resulting decision ... to take the courageous step of responding by ceasing all future production and marketing of the `Crazy Bear' product," the groups said.
As recently as last week, Robert extended her apologies to anyone offended by the bear, but said it would not be taken off the market. "We're not in a position to be told what we can and cannot sell," she said.
The company has said that its plan was to market the product through Valentine's Day, and then discontinue it.
In their statement, the mental health groups said they hoped the story would have a happy ending.
"The public dialogue that emerged across the country as a result of this controversy has produced significant benefits by identifying and underscoring the ongoing importance of addressing the stigma and stereotypes still associated with mental illness," they said.
I'm happy they are using the old "W" on the caps....

My memories are the Washington Senators.........still pissed the new team is called the Nationals.......
Your logo and your letterhead are your "frontlines" to the general public. They will be on your website, your monthly statements and all correspondence. Therefore, they should be as classic and classy as they can.
I agree with that statement.
Even though this will be advertised as a "discount" service, there is no excuse to be represented by chintzy graphics reminiscent of Carnival Cruise Lines.
And that one also.
Where's are disagreement?
First and foremost, an investment firm should promote strength, professionalism, and other positive attributes.
LG:
But it's just not promotional products............your everyday stuff like letterhead and business cards are a lot more expensive with 4 color process.
I personally feel a logo that is not flashy or gimickly denotes professionalism.
I still like creative logos. Two of my favories were the old Milwaukee Brewers logo, M & B formed a glove:
http://forums.mlbcenter.com/showthread.php?t=13643
and the Hartford Whalers logo cool:
http://www.hartfordwhalers.org/
W & H and a whale fin...........
LG:
I do promotional products and some times people forget about this area when designing logos.
It starts with the letterhead, if it's 4 color process, it's a lot more expensive to reproduce.
If you want embroidered items, 4 color process does not translate very well to shirts, hats, bags, jackets etc......and your costs go up for these items if they are multi-colored imprints. A lot of ourt factories can't/won't even imprint 4 color process in small qty's.
Regards.
It's currently running backwards................just a temporary "glitch".......

For all the bashing Bill Gates gets, this is impressive:
The year's other billion-dollar-club members include No. 1 givers Bill and Melinda Gates, the world's largest international donors, who made history this year by giving their estimated $3 billion Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - News) dividend to their foundation. It's one of the largest donations in history by a living donor. To put it into perspective, that one gift is three times bigger than the amount that America's richest family, the descendants of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT - News) founder Sam Walton, has given during their entire lifetimes, according to our ranking.
