I've built the portfolio in such a way that if one stock succeeds the whole portfolio will be worth what I spent in capital
You didn't mention the time frame you are trading but it sounds to me like you have chosen to load your portfolio with high-risk issues in hopes that one at least will be a winner. However, there are no guarantees and you might have picked all losers.
If you are a newbie investor (and it sounds as if you are), you might want to start over and try making a few base hits before swinging for the fences. JMO, worth what you paid for it.

PS Stock picking is important, but timing is the ultimate determinant of profit and/or loss, but I don't trade penny stocks so WDIK.
It is a program used to update your drivers. I believe it comes bundled with Java 8. If you recently updated Java that might be how you got it on your computer. Go to Add/Delete Programs (if you're running Windows) and see if it is listed, and if so you can delete it there. If not, duh. . . Try this:

I don't know what program you use for emails, but I use Thunderbird and in that program I have 3 email accounts, but one designates the 'master' account that appears as the return address on all emails. It looks like whatever program you use somehow your 'master' email account was changed from comcast to google. Perhaps as Flo said, you have gotten infected somehow. Anyway, you can probably control which return address is used if you can find the setting in your email program and change the master account back to what it originally was. Good luck with that.

No, nothing on the DreamMachine board re Bruce either. No posts from Bruce on iHub at all recently.
Yes, sometimes I use the temporarily allow also, but that won't always work with some sites and I have to then go to allow scripts globally, so I usually just go directly to that instead of fooling with the other.
Newly
Absolutely! I believe many here are praying for Bruce's full recovery and recognize the efficacy of prayer and how powerful it can be in shaping one's destiny!
Newly
What I find interesting is that he actually asks such questions -- most people are simply oblivious. . .
Newly
I do think we have the most interesting Admins on this site, don't you? Each one is a uniquely clever individual and has their own marvelous sense of humor. Not a dud in the bunch IMO. . .

I liked Ghostery too, but after I lost it in one of my many recent computer crashes (my Terminator is like 10 yrs old now, still running XP, LOL) I just never downloaded it again, and now I like the AdBlock Plus and NoScript combo very much. Does the job for me, but maybe I'm just used to it. I immediately recognize when something on a site doesn't work that I need to allow scripts (done with two clicks) but have to always remember to go back to forbidding scripts after.
Haven't heard anything new re Bruce. Do hope he is OK. I think he is now up in North Carolina for treatment. I do wish he had asked his wife to keep us informed, but I suppose no news is good news. . . ?
Newly
Bruce, Where are you? How are you? If at all possible, please keep us apprised of your progress. We, your cyber friends, are all anxiously awaiting your news. . .
Best wishes, Newly
I also used Ghostery for a while but lost it in one of my crashes. Now use Adblock Plus (and keep it always enabled everywhere) in conjunction with NoScript (which I turn on and off easily depending on the website and whether what I want to do requires Javascript or not). This combo works well for me. . .
Newly
NoScript (a free extension offered in Firefox browser) works great for me but blocks other things that use Javascript but it is simple to disable it on some sites and not on others (it remembers the settings for each site).

Wondering how Bruce is doing? Worried that we haven't heard anything in a while. Anyone heard any news? Hope everything is going in a positive direction. . .

This was the last I heard on Sunday:
Well, now you have a taste of what us cheapies go through every day, it's an ADvalanche! LOL

Hi, Susie. Don't know if this will help but recently I kept getting those messages about the certificates being invalid and dangerous. Turned out this was due to the fact that my CMOS battery was dying so my computer was not holding the current date and time. Once I reentered the current date and time the problem disappeared (until the next time I booted the computer). Just a thought. Check your date and time. . .
Newly
Bruce, How very good to hear from you! I've checked this board every day hoping for a word as to your condition. Kinda assumed you were already in N.C., but apparently not. I must say, you sound like you have improved immensely since your last message, and that is good to know.
I don't fully understand what the problem is, but "100% fatal" does not sound very promising. But just because they are telling you it is so, doesn't make it so! You just have to believe you can be the exception! You are and will be facing some tough times, Bruce, but don't lose hope or the faith in your ability to be healed. The power of prayer has been proven in so many presumably hopeless cases over and over again. We are all praying daily for your complete recovery. Let it happen!!!
My thoughts are with you. . .

Yes, leaving the router on 24/7 is overwhelmingly the response I'm getting, so that's what I'll do! Thanks for your thoughts.
Newly
Thanks, I guess that's what I will do. I have a cable modem and was told never to turn that off, either (except when I go away for a few weeks, then I do turn it off).
Newly
Thanks, Quasi. My router can be programed to not allow any connections except to computers I specifically list by name and MAC address in the software. I like that feature, makes me feel safer. I also chose one with WPA/WPA2 security, which I understand is the best. . .
Newly
Thanks for your reply. I'll see how I feel about it when I get used to having it around, LOL.
Newly
Thanks. I don't use a tablet, so I don't need the wifi going unless I want to have my laptop connected. I just wondered if it would hurt the router at all to turn it off every night when I'm done on the computer.
Newly
I just installed my first wireless router and was wondering, does one leave these routers on all the time or shut them down at night when one logs off one's computers?
Newly
Actually all's well that ends well. I did a system restore and that fixed it. Don't have any idea why, but at least it is working now.
Thanks for the link.

I am having a problem with my laptop recognizing my CD drive. In Device Mgr it shows that yellow not working thingie and when I try to update the driver it says the one I have is the best one available. I have uninstalled the drive and when I reboot it reinstalls the driver and still won't work and doesn't show up in My Computer. When I click on the driver I get the following message:
"A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"
I suspect the problem occurred when I was trying to install the drivers and software to tether my Samsung Galaxy 4 to the laptop. I have uninstalled everything I can think of that I installed at that time and nothing changes. Short of doing a clean install, don't know where to go from here. Ideas?
HELP! TIA

Re PM. Yes, not unexpected, IMO, and perhaps better as time passes. Hopefully so.

Hi, Bruce. So, you are still here and you are still you! I know your worst fear was that you would lose yourself through this surgery, but it seems that did not happen, and that is very good news indeed!
I'm not sure I understand your prognosis, but God has upheld you in everything you have been through so far, and I do not believe He will let you down now.
Please keep us posted (or have your wife post) as to the progress of your recovery, Bruce. A lot of us here care about you and have been, and still are, very worried.
I had a wake-up call four years ago and in a sense I see this as your wake-up call. Sometimes it takes something like this to remind us what a precious gift life is. We all take it for granted much of the time, not realizing how quickly it can change or be gone altogether. So, treasure each moment, keep fighting, and with God's help you will make a full and complete recovery.
Love & prayers coming your way. . .
Newly
Thanks for making the effort and letting us know, sidedraft. Looks like Bruce is home already, praise be to God. Mystery solved!

Still no news?????

I don't know much about brain surgery, Larry, but even if all went very, VERY well, I would not expect Bruce himself to be posting here, at least not yet, but I was kind of hoping he had asked his wife to let us all know how it all went but maybe not. . . I hope someone will post an update here if they get any news. In the meantime I prefer to adhere to the old adage, "No news is good news!"
Newly
Any news re Bruce's condition?

All my prayers are with you today, Bruce. You are in God's hands now, and He shall sustain you. . . I look forward to your speedy recovery.

Hi, Flo. This is a great article about passwords and how length is the most important factor and you can test yours here:
https://www.grc.com/haystack.htm
Another thing I read somewhere is that one can defeat keyloggers by typing one's passwords into a file on one's computer and copy/paste each time, or alternately using the hot keys for passwords so keyloggers cannot capture them.
For online traders password protection is super important. But even a great password is not perfect protection if you are dumb enough to share it! Think your brokerage account cannot be drained because your broker will only allow withdrawals to be wired directly to your bank account? Think again! I remember years ago before the 2000 crash someone on a trading site like iHub went into their rather large account one morning only to find a bunch of worthless future contracts in it. The powers-that-be traced the tjeft back through something like 14 different countries to a trader in Hong Kong. How he did it was he came on a trading site and offered traders a program he had written to help them trade and asked for volunteers to test it for him. Of course, to test it they had to enter their passwords, which he then captured. Then he went into all those accounts until he found one large enough to cover his losses on the futures contracts and "sold" them to that account and took their money. Smart, eh? Not smart enough since he got caught, LOL.

Yup, $6 at Radio Shack, just haven't bothered. It's been like that for quite a while now, and it only causes a problem when I turn off all power to the computer (it loses date and time, etc.), and next time I power up and choose to continue it loads a backup and I just adjust the date and time. If I turn off the computer but leave the power strip on, power continues to go into the power supply of the computer and so it doesn't lose date, time, etc. and isn't a problem. I'll get around to getting a new CMOS battery one of these days. . .
Newly
Thanks for posting that, Larry. I had just posted yezzer to Bruce on this board. Normally I would have posted my question on his board, The Dream Machine, but for some reason this time I didn't. I am surprised he was able to reply to my inquiry here today with all that is going on with him. What a horrible thing to have happen, but what a wonderful thing that it happened when and where it did. I believe everything happens for a reason, so I trust that his life was preserved for a reason, and thus I feel strongly that he will also be preserved through whatever comes next. I know we all are praying for him, each in their own way.

Hi, Flo and all who responded (thanks for the ideas). In researching online I found several people who said a dead CMOS could prevent booting, especially on older machines (mine is 10 yrs old!).
When I push the power on button, I can hear it start to boot and see the indicators light up as it checks the DVD and floppy drives but the monitor never comes on and the boot process seems to stall there. Well, turns out it was a dual problem, an unfortunate coincidence. I reseated the DIMM, played with the CMOS pins, cleaned all, tightened up all connections and voila! it booted normally. Turns out that having a dead CMOS means that when the computer first boots, one is given the choice of continuing or going into the BIOS. I could not see this choice because the monitor never came on, and unless the user inputs a choice, the computer just sits at that point waiting, which made me think the booting process had stalled. Apparently somehow the monitor connection failed or was loose on top of having a very dead CMOS (I was aware for some time now that it was dying). At any rate, all's well that ends well. Really thought this time my Terminator was a gone goose!

Oh, Bruce, just saw your message and am so sorry to learn about your experience. But do consider that God (or Fate, if you prefer) chose to save you when you so easily could have died when that seizure occurred, and surely He saved you for a reason -- I have to think that He will not allow anything bad to happen to you now.
I will pray for you until we hear you are on the mend, which I know you certainly will be! Please keep us informed of your progress as soon as you are able. Many here will no doubt be very concerned about you until we get the "all clear".
You will be uppermost in my thoughts and prayers next Tuesday. I just know this is going to end well for you. God be with you. . .

PS I no longer have your phone number, but if you still have mine and need to talk, just call me, day or night.
Hi, Bruce. Been having a problem with my terminator today. On an ASUS Mobo, will a completely dead CMOS battery prevent booting? What happens is when I turn it on, it starts to boot, fans run, it checks the CD drive and the floppy, then beeps once and nothing else happens. Any ideas? I know the CMOS has been dying so I'm wondering if that would do it? Any ideas welcome. I'm also thinking maybe the RAM?
Newly
Sounds like you and my mother took a page out of the same book, LOL.
Newly
PS Oh, not meant to infer you are as ancient as my mother, no, no, of course not, just meant you think alike when it comes to your kids, LOL.
If you really want it to stop, Gail, all you have to do is stop responding. That's the advice my mother gave me when I was teased as a child and it is still good advice today. Try it, you'll like it. . .
