Thanks for keeping us posted, ciciagt. I'm not on Facebook so this is my only source of updates on Bruce's condition. I can't even imagine what he and his wife are going through. Horrible! I am devastated just reading the updates. Things appear so grave now and have been drawn out for so long one almost wishes Bruce could just pass and end all the suffering.
Love and prayers, Bruce, on your journey -- God speed. . .

When you have time, Dan, I'm curious what does one use Cortana for?
Newly
Kitt, This computer is brand new this week, and just downloaded the most recent version of my trading platform, so that's not the problem. I suspect the problem is the 4GGB RAM and upgrading to 8GB may solve the issue.
Newly
And again! It seems like when I do the WinEx restart my trading program locks up for maybe 30 seconds or so. Had to shut it down both times but now I see if I'm a little more patient it will correct itself.
Newly
Just did it again. UGH
Newly
It seems to be tied to my trading platform. I don't know why but this trading platform seems to create all kinds of problems on this computer. Half the time it doesn't load properly or freezes. I might have to deepsix it and reload.
Newly
BTW, my taskbar problem just returned but I did the WinEx restart and its ok again. . .for now, anyway, LOL.
Newly
Will do. . .
Newly
Thanks to everyone for info posted. I've taken up a lot of board time today but I guess it's ok since no one else seems to be having problems today, LOL.
Newly
Thanks Flo.
Newly
Thanks Flo. Can I reverse it if I want to later? I think I'll just try to get used to Win10 for now. . .
Newly
Thanks, John, I did get my problem solved. I think I just need to play around with Win10 a bit more and become familiar with where everything is and how it works.
Newly
Thanks, I actually stumbled around and finally found that myself, LOL.
Newly
Where is that setting? BTW, I found Accessories under W, Windows Accessories (rather than A).
Newly
OK, Dan, this is what I see when I rt clk the Start button and clk Search. Originally I got this wiggly thing with 2 buttons Next and Not Interested. I hit Next and the screen you see (Cortana) popped up. Now, what happens when I choose No thanks or Use Cortana? Can I reverse my choice later?
TIA
Newly
On my XP rig it pops up purple and goes away after a couple of seconds. On this it is white and just sits there even after I check msgs, and won't leave until I click the X. They pile up one on top of the other all the way up the right side of my screen. Maybe I'll just "false" the notification in settings instead of fussing with it right now. . .
Newly
Too complicated to do until I get more familiar with where things are and how they work in Win10, Dan. Will download my old screenshot software later and then send you not the wiggly thing because it's gone now that I clicked on the Next button in it and got the Cortana screen which I closed out without making a choice, so I can't show you the wiggly thing I first had, only the second (Cortana) screen that came after I clicked Next. Later. . .
Newly
Me, too! Always reminds me of Bruce Thompson's signature with the duck taking a sledgehammer to his rig LOL.
Newly
By the way, Dan, now that I have you here, my msg notification box pops up when a new msg comes in, but it never goes away on this machine until I click the X. Where is the setting to adjust it to go away after a few seconds please?
Newly
As I'm sure you are aware, Flo, one must keep one's sense of humor when dealing with computer problems OR ONE WOULD JUST MURDER THE BUGGER!
Newly
But you don't get that wiggly thing I get, do you? Was going to do a snip screenshot of it, but as soon as I start the snip box the wiggly think disappears from the screen so not possible.
Newly
Hey, great, that did it. Thanks Dan, but now I can't remember who wanted me to do a screenshot with a snip, or why, LOL.
You may think I'm nuts, but I always enjoy having computer problems because I always learn so much trying to solve them. I keep a file of solutions for WinXP, now I'll have to start one for Win10 I suppose!
Newly
OK, clicked on Next button, and apparently it is a Cortana thing and on the next screen one can choose Use Cortana or No thanks. I'll bet you guys already deepsixed Cortana and that's why you don't get that, right?
Newly
Well, that's fine for him, but that's not what I get when I click the start button or the Search the Web and Windows. I suspect you-all have already said Not Interested or Next to the wiggly thing, and I haven't. Perhaps that's why. . .
Newly
Dan, As I told Flo, I have right clked the start button then clicked Search and I get a wiggly thing that tells me it can do all kinds of stuff for me and 2 buttons, Next or Not Interested. I close it. That's all I get. Any other suggestions as to how I can get to plain old search?
Newly
I'm running Win10Pro not Home if that makes any difference. . .
Newly
When I go to All Apps I do not find Accessories The only thing under A is Alarms!
Newly
I presume the Start button is that furthest left MS icon. As I said if I click that I get a bunch of program squares, if I rt click it I get a list, click search and get that wiggling thing.
Newly
That's what I did. If I just click the start button up pops a patchwork of various programs Win10 thinks I want to use. If I rt click on start I get a list and if I hit search, I get a thing that wiggles around and says "Here'ssome of the things I can do for you" with 2 buttons, Next and Not Interested. That's all I get, so I exit.
Newly
Not a problem, Larry. My trading platform is working fine I just haven't had time to look at it and figure out what's happening and what I might want to trade since I've spent all morning grappling with Win10! No LOL. . .
Newly
Clicking on the search feature under Search the Web and Windows or the start menue takes me to some crazy Win10 program that has to be set up and I'm not ready for that yet, LOL. Any other search feature I can use?
Newly
Not sure where that setting is in Win10. I haven't changed any default settings yet, or done any adjusting of anything as I'm still learning how to get around in Win10. I know MS sets the default amount of virtual memory waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high. . .
Newly
Haven't downloaded my screenshot software yet, and don't know if there is a builtin one in Win10. Haven't played around with this OS much as I just got this Thinkpad this week. What is the name of the setting I would need to adjust in Display Settings?
Newly
PS Crap, while I'm screwing around with Win10, the market is tanking big time and I haven't placed a trade yet today. Crap, crap, crap, LOL.
Newly
Yes, I just did and the taskbar seems to be autohiding right now with the browser and my trading platform open. Hope it lasts. . .
Thanks, Flo. You are such a valuable resource here. You know most of the answers and when you don't, you seem to know where to find them! Can't thank you enough yet again. I'm going to write that tip down. What else will Ctrl/Shft/Esc do?
By the way, don't know if it is this Thinkpad or Win10, but I seem to get a lot of freezing up (not blue screen of death, just inability to do anything necessitating a hard shutdown). According to Task Manager, with my trading platform and a browser (with 5 or 6 windows) open, I'm using roughly 50% of memory and 25% of CPU. Wonder if increasing the RAM from 4GB to 8GB would help with the freezing up problem? Your thoughts?
Newly
Won't that reduce the text size on the entire screen? This is a Thinkpad, the print is already pretty small. . .
Newly
I haven't tried opening Internet Options. The buttons are hidden when I rt click on the taskbar then click properties -- a popup window comes up but the buttons at the bottom are hidden behind the taskbar because it won't autohide once I have opened my trading platform. I have to first move the taskbar to the right side of my screen and click blindly where I think the apply button is and sometimes I hit it right and the taskbar moves to the right and I can then see the buttons. After the shutdown the taskbar autohides as it should. Stays on autohide after i open my trading platform until I minimize the platform and need to open a minimized browser so go to the taskbar and then it will not autohide again. Even after I then close the platform, the taskbar will not autohide until I reset the option shutdown and restart. I HATE WINDOWS 10!
Newly
OK. Right now the taskbar is auto hiding as I asked and did a shutdown. It stays on auto hide when I open my browser, but when I open my trading platform it stops auto hiding and I cannot reach the keys I need to trade. Even if I then close my trading platform, the taskbar remains stuck open even in the browser. Driving me nuts. . .
Newly
I spoke too soon, Larry. As soon as I reopened my trade platform the taskbar reverted back and will not auto-hide. Any other suggestions?
