Washington, D.C. Trump Federal 2020 Election Subversion Indictment
United States v. Trump
Filed: August 1, 2023
Indictment of former President Donald Trump by a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C. Trump was indicted on four counts relating to his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
“[F]or more than two months following election day on November 3, 2020, the Defendant [Donald Trump] spread lies that there had been outcome-determinative fraud in the election and that he had actually won. These claims were false, and the Defendant knew that they were false,” the indictment reads.
According to the unsealed indictment, Trump is charged with:
Conspiracy to defraud the United States;
Conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding;
Obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and
Conspiracy against the right to vote and have one’s vote counted.
On Aug. 3, 2023, Trump pleaded not guilty as his arraignment in Washington, D.C. On Oct. 17, the court entered a gag order prohibiting Trump from making public statements about U.S. Department of Justice attorneys, the court’s staff and witnesses. Trump appealed the order to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which largely upheld the order on Dec. 8.
On Dec. 1, the district court denied Trump’s motion to dismiss the indictment based on presidential immunity grounds. On Dec. 7, Trump appealed this ruling to the D.C. Circuit.
On Dec. 11, 2023, the government filed a petition for writ of certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court asking it to rule on whether Trump is immune from criminal charges for actions he took while serving as president.
Meanwhile, on Dec. 13, the district court granted Trump’s request to stay proceedings while his presidential immunity appeal plays out.
On Dec. 22, the Supreme Court denied the government’s petition for a writ of certiorari. Litigation is ongoing in the D.C. Circuit regarding Trump’s immunity from criminal prosecution.
On Feb. 2, 2024, the district court vacated the trial’s start date, which was set to begin on March 4. The court has not yet scheduled a new date for the trial.
On Feb. 6, the D.C. Circuit affirmed that Trump is not absolutely immune from criminal liability for actions he took wile in office. On Feb. 12, Trump filed an application asking the Supreme Court to pause the D.C. Circuit’s immunity ruling.
And stop Mercedes'- uh....Melania's "Style consulting" or what ever that is.
This is, happily, becoming the death of a thousand cuts.
It's working- Trump has to admit (legally) that he doesn't have all of the money he keeps saying he does.
There it is: Trump conceding he doesn’t have the cash to cover the judgment after all and would have to put up assets for sale. https://t.co/1U6jJZ75Jd pic.twitter.com/YiziuDh4S6

On McConnell
@ElieNYC
The next guy will be worse, somehow, but better for the country because they’ll lack McConnell’s competence.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate leader in history who maintained his power in the face of dramatic convulsions in the Republican Party for almost two decades, will step down from that position in November.
McConnell, who turned 82 last week, was set to announce his decision Wednesday in the well of the Senate, a place where he looked in awe from its back benches in 1985 when he arrived and where he grew increasingly comfortable in the front row seat afforded the party leaders.
“One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter,” he said in prepared remarks obtained by The Associated Press. “So I stand before you today ... to say that this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate.”
His decision punctuates a powerful ideological transition underway in the Republican Party, from Ronald Reagan’s brand of traditional conservatism and strong international alliances, to the fiery, often isolationist populism of former President Donald Trump.
I would look forward to a Newsom/Buttigieg slate someday. 2 of the best communicators ever.
Trying to stir the pot..................

You gotta wonder. McConnell has had several public episodes of something that looks like absence seizures. The man's an obstructionist- not an idiot. One assumes he's seen a Dr. When he sees Trump totally lose the plot at his rallys, he may actually have a better idea than most what might be going on.
@mkraju
Asked Mitch McConnell why he’s still holding out and not endorsing Donald Trump, given that his top deputies have offered their endorsement as he marches to the nomination. “I don’t have any announcement about that today,” he said
Baby Powder?
He should certainly lose any position of authority in his church.
I'm sure the whole family appreciates having his misbehavior plastered all over the news.
Yes, of course he's a Republican.
@Tazerface16
Matt Rosendale has dropped out of the Senate race in Montana after getting his 20 year old aid pregnant, demonstrating one of the very few times that a man's career options have been limited by an unplanned pregnancy.
Buy the rumor, sell the news. Report was fine.
How cool was that!
Whatever it is that he has- and it does for sure include some form of dementia, it's progressing at a fairly alarming pace. No one of sound mind goes from a dull, repetitive rally speech to complete word salad without a cause.
I guess his handlers can;t force him to go to a neurologist for testing,
However- where dementia is probably a given - early alzheimers is not.
"One of the most common signs of Alzheimer’s disease, especially in the early stage, is forgetting recently learned information. Others include forgetting important dates or events, asking the same questions over and over, and increasingly needing to rely on memory aids (e.g., reminder notes or electronic devices) or family members for things they used to handle on their own".
If he needs cue cards to remember his children's names- early stage alzheimers isn't the culprit. That would be one of the late stage symptoms.
They don't. They go CRAAACK and fall on cars and kill people, though.
I live in an area with thousands of trees. (This is The Evergreen State). I have never met a single tree that behaved as the Resident Expert described! Amazing, isn't it?
There have been 3 if you count the Caucus. Here's a handy list of all and their dates.

Some credit has to go to it being her home state, but yes, it shows a division that Trump won't like.
Frighteningly- it is still coming apart- despite everything Biden is doing. The Media is as responsible for this as is the GOP. I cannot believe the stupidity they are showing.,
Not sure it will ever become evident to his supporters until he has a total breakdown in public where they can't "not see it".
This will give Trumpty a major mad this evening.
@mkraju
Nikki Haley, speaking to supporters after losing resoundingly in her home state, indicates she’s not dropping out.
“America will come apart if we make the wrong choices…We need to beat Joe Biden November. I don’t believe Donald Trump can beat Joe Biden.”
Says 40 percent support is not a “tiny group”
Maybe he has a current mistress named Mercedes?
Or- maybe he's confused melania with this one? Remember her?
CNN —
The Republican campaign staffer who has accused Matt Schlapp, a high-profile conservative activist, of sexual assault is now suing Schlapp and his wife, Mercedes, for more than $9 million.
Yes- and it's becoming obvious- even to the media who are now commenting on it.
Easier than my trying to explain it.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Both houses of the United States Congress have refused to seat new members based on Article I, Section 5 of the United States Constitution which states that:
"Each House shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members, and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business; but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the attendance of absent members, in such manner, and under such penalties as each House may provide."
This had been interpreted that members of the House of Representatives and of the Senate could refuse to recognize the election or appointment of a new representative or senator for any reason, often political heterodoxy or criminal record.
However, the U.S. Supreme Court, in Powell v. McCormack (1969), limited the powers of the Congress to refuse to seat an elected member to when the individual does not meet the specific constitutional requirements of age, citizenship or residency. From the decision by Chief Justice Earl Warren: "Therefore, we hold that, since Adam Clayton Powell Jr., was duly elected by the voters of the 18th Congressional District of New York and was not ineligible to serve under any provision of the Constitution, the House was without power to exclude him from its membership."
The Federal Contested Elections Act of 1969 currently lays out the procedures by which each House determines contested elections.
Lately some of his "glitches" have looked more like being caused by a brain tumor of some sort.
They can't without cause.
Former President Donald Trump defeats Nikki Haley in South Carolina Republican contest, pushing him closer into a contest against President Joe Biden for the 2024 election

Some of them are actually funny, though.
5. “In times of bad, she’ll call me up say, “Don’t worry about, sir, you’re doing great.”
Said the Biden-Harris campaign, “A lot of people don’t know how smart and respected Marjorie Taylor Greene is.”
I know, but he's getting worse rapidly now. Pretty soon his speeches won't make any sense. They will literally be a word salad.
What we need is for him to have a complete flame-out at one of these rallys and have to be taken off of the stage. And then play that as a clip over and over.
Meanwhile- someone needs to make him watch these clips already in existence while eating his favorite hamberder. It will get under his thin skin and make him a little nervous- which will cause him further deterioration. He has to be afraid of dementia and somewhere in his malfunctioning brain he knows that it's coming on.
It might, just maybe, be that the GOP are going to learn the meaning of A Bridge Too Far.
This one seems to have actually frightened some of the stupid GOP
@PatrickW
NYT reports Republicans suddenly want to protect access to IVF "in every state."
Excellent. Democrats want the same. The House can pass a bill, the Senate will surely agree and Biden will sign it.
Should be simple. Let's see if it happens.
Yeah- there's been some chat about that. I was reading yesterday about a woman who said she had just "adopted" 14 abandoned embryos and called her lawyer an her accountant and filed an amended tax form and the state would now owe her money for quite some time. I'm not even positive that it wasn't a joke and that she didn't exactly do just that.
@oddemann
Legal predicament:
The power grid fails in Alabama
All the frozen embryos melt, and die
Who’s gonna be executed?
My answer- Abbott of course. He's the one responsible for the power grid failure.
Well- he should and also everyone of those who had any part in the disinformation campaign.
Maybe he thought no one would notice...............
Let's get Trumpty's day off to a great start.
@Victorshi2020
NEW: NY AG Letitia James just wrote to Judge Engoron, saying, there is “no room for further debate” & “nor do Defendants provide any basis for staying enforcement of the judgment.” In other words, AG James is making Donald Trump pay & it’s amazing. Great news.
