You don't trust the JD Powers quality surveys saying Hyundai has nearly caught up with Toyota?
So LES numbers were supposed to be deterministic and not probabilistic? Interesting.

I find these ECU release highly disleading. Here they show an average of the grades over an as yet undefined volume. If they are going to give an average, they should show the map and the volume. Comments?

The press keeps getting it wrong. It's the year of the "Fiery Pig" not golden but the market doesn't care.

Minera Andes and Aurelian Resources <mneaf/mai.to>
>>>>
March 9 (Bloomberg) -- Minera Andes Inc., a Canadian mining company, said it aims to produce 120,000 ounces of gold annually by 2009 from a deposit in Argentina.
Minera, 30 percent owned by entrepreneur Robert McEwan, will begin by June to process 750 tons a day of ore from its San Jose deposit, which will yield 60,000 ounces of gold and 3.1 million ounces of silver a year, the company's President Allan Ambrose said in an interview in Toronto. Processing capacity will double within 18 months of the start of production.
In the deposit's first phase, the company is mining 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) of mineral veins, which hold an average of 7.7 grams of gold per ton, Ambrose said. Minera aims to eventually mine about 40 kilometers, which have shown similar concentrations.
Gold prices have risen about 19 percent in the past year, prompting miners to boost exploration and production. Fourth- quarter profit doubled for Toronto-based Barrick Gold Corp., the world's largest gold producer, and tripled for Denver-based Newmont Mining Corp., the second-biggest, the two companies said last month. Barrick will produce 8.1 million to 8.4 million ounces of the metal this year.
Aurelian Resources Inc., which announced in December its Fruta del Norte project in Ecuador may have ``bonanza grade'' gold deposits, said on March 7 that early tests show the site holds an average of 8 grams of the precious metal a ton. Aurelian aims to start output on its 95,000-hectare (235,000-acre) Ecuador concession as early as 2011.
Minera's shares rose 3 cents, or 1.5 percent, to C$1.99 at 11:59 a.m. in Toronto Stock Exchange trading, after climbing 9.5 percent in the preceding three days. They have gained 30 percent this year.

mneaf - How much do you figure Cu is worth in the ground? Any recent buyouts as examples? TIA

>>>Tell me about it! <g> I've had GTC's in the low .90's and mid .80's since the end of June to no avail.... It's come fairly close several times, but am still waiting.
<<<
the last minor purchase (1.2 mil shrs) by McEwen was US$1 and it's not clear to me if he was done or not as the stock ran and he stopped buying. now that it's back to his buy price, any price less than US$1 will not be long lived imo. by pure luck i was able to buy some at 0.85 during the first gold price reaction and i am now like others not have any luck with my GTC bids below 1. we need au to dip to $500 and for mneaf not to announce any more high grade delineations.

NGAS -- not sure why you guys like to play it but here is my personal opinion about the company fwiw: They sell drilling programs as limited partnerships. That's not such a bad thing since they don't have to put up capital to get working interest equity, however they do pay for operating expense while LLP get production royalty sans opex. CEO owns the drilling contracting firm that NGAS subcontracts out to and charges an arm and a leg for drilling and completion services. Wells are typically low productivity and high costs (lots of de-watering before gas flows and low flows after de-watering). So the LLP makes out OK, the CEO makes out like a bandit and the shareholders? Well you be the judge ....... what was the CF/well and eps when NG prices were through the roof?
I think the those interested have gotten immunized to the trading halts and entension announcements. Maybe Chevron can try the same thing as they drill and test extension wells to Jack2 to get its stock moving.
>>> How many miners/explorers (ECU is both!) do you know of who have a CEO (michael Roy) who is a Qualified Person as defined in NI 43-101 and who sends their ore samples to an ISO 9000 series Certified Lab for assaying would open their propriatory exploration records to an 'outsider' (NDA'a notwithstanding), i.e., an independant geologist for such a silly really as you proffer. <<<<
the most recent example is Aurelian Resources.
I was aware of his robtv comments. To be exact, Embry claimed that he had met and talked to the CEO and looked at the company and he wasn't interested. He added some colorful comments to the effect that he wasn't sure what to make of the company even though the CEO "seems like a nice guy". That must have caused an uproar amongst ECU believers and resulted in another reporter to follow up on Embry's comments. It was the second report that brought out the divergence between YOY revenues and positive PR about extensions/discoveries. IMO if the company doesn't hire an independent geologist to audit and varify results at this early stage, then I would not touch the company. The other way to increase the credibility quotient is to increase revs and cash flow by 10X YOY if note more. BOL.
what do you make of John Embry's concern about ECU being a fraud? My understanding of his concern is that all the discovery PRs are about extensions from already producing veins. If the yield is so wonderful, why hasn't it shown up already in cash flow? Are there any other situations where the CEO is also the one signing off assay results and geologic mapping for Sedar filings?

mai.v comments --- thanks. I guess "needless" would be an appropriate descriptor IF the extortionists limit themselves to Chubut. Somehow I think there was a psychological cookie jar that was broken. So imminent may be also be an appropriate descriptor. <g>
I wonder if Kirschner have illusions of grandeur like Chavez. How does this affect Minera Andes and their partner? TIA
STXS - lots of insider activity lately amidst news of live successful demos of remotely operated minimally invasive ablation of complex atrial afibrillation. One was remotely operated from Boston and patient was in Milan, Italy. Other one was done from Germany(?) and patient was in Monaco. STXS CEO and CFO bought up to 9.41 recently. Lots of risks involved in these live demo's --- there was a recent case of another company at a different heart conference where catheter delivered heart valve repair went bad and they had to cut off the video feed and the patient died.
McEwen - he carries a big stick AND talks loudly <g>.
May be he will throw throw mai.v into the usgl mix and come up with a decent size company. Real men and their companies need Argentina mines <vbg>. Nibbled a little more mai.v today.
You are right, StockCharts had 1.00 15 minutes prior to close and I thought that was it. Wonder if they are mixing in index data during intraday and then switch back to equity p/c at day's end. That would match what I see from the cboe site better.
looks like we arrived today.

USGL/McEwen --
You have followed him much longer than I have. Is he backing out to game the price or has he become less sure of au outlook? Any thoughts much appreciated.

thanks for the update. last time I took a detailed look at SJ. there were ~20 km of veins. Didn't realize they have raised it to 30 km + so the potential 2I resource is now ~3 mil oz au. McEwen is quite the robber.
>>Four mineralized systems totaling more than 30 km are currently known to exist at San Jose.<<
>> Wouldn't that, in the main, depend upon what the price of copper would be at that point in time? <<
They (or a bank) must have to assume something for price, capex and opex if they try to get a loan once they can show minimum X amount in the ground. For oil projects, we (I) used to assume $20-25/bbl in the tank ad infinitum <vbg> and ~$5/bbl in the ground. I will just make a wild guess of 50 cents/lb in the ground discounted back would get me to 25 cents/lb. That would be ~$1 billion as a wild guess for a 50% share of LA. Seems high compared to market cap ...

Los Azules seems to be right near the top. 2500m X 1500m X 100 m X 0.5% Cu X rock-density gets me to ~500 million mt. Any idea how much is the rock worth in the ground if production doesn't come for another decade?
Yes TA wise a leper speaking of which AMGN also headed for the colony for whatever reason. There must be generic growth hormones hitting the market soon.
lscp -- microwave procedures has proven to be not very good... ~50% retreatment rate after 2 years. Reimbursement rate to uro's is very high though so that is driving it. But still, it may be less than a sham of going on expensive meds at the risk of bladder damage and other bad side effects. i expect people will eventually understand the data.
I understand from an Euro urologist that TURP and drugs are the free choices offered in Europe. If you try to offer TUMT or TUNA(microwave) over there, you are viewed as worse than a whore. I guess the health ministries over there have educated the public better.
lscp - listened to cc last night. transition to new laser is apparently abrupt so they will take a short term hit this Q followed by fast ramp in 2nd half once they have the assembly process fine tuned. 3 urologists in on the cc talking about their adoption experience w/ one talking about using the new laser on 2 cases. new laser will cut procedure time by up to 50%. interesting cc. didn't realize death rate from current TURP procedures is so high ~1.5%
lscp - introduced a new version of their prostate laser with much better specs at the AUA meeting.
mai.v -- The table is Greek to me in terms of economics. Is there a web site where i can learn how to translate grades? btw - how do they look to you. TIA.
lscp -- hoping for volume on the break to set a hard bottom. so far nothing. What's the requirement for a decent bottom?
DD - any opinion/guess on the time required to resolve dispute and outcome? tia
mai.v -- thanks. How much P&P would you be willing to speculate on as of today just based on SJ?
mai - 5 mil oz net? from where? tia.
lscp - somebody really hates it and fished my bid at LOD. Didn't get much. Not sure what they are extrapolating.
lscp - yeah agree with your guess (i'm looking for 5 handle). Current installed base if fully utilize should get them to 200K+ procedures/year and that alone should get them 1B market cap. The installed base is way under utilize currently probably because of training curve. It appears the potential market is quite a bit bigger ~3-5X (turp plus drug replacement) so there is still headroom. otoh Didn't like the reduction in fiber pricing (seems like panic reaction to reimbursement reduction which has since been readjusted up).
isrg - what's a good ob range for that? tia
