soon a draft will start then possibly more war games
jmo, but short of an attack here by another country, a draft will be the start of protest and uprising such as created the pressure to end the Viet Nam war.
I don't believe the Iraqi war would have been fought had there been a draft. By spreading the human pain of war more people will think twice about the reason for fighting.

"Sexsomniacs" puzzle medical researchers
Thu Oct 26, 8:35 AM ET
Researchers are struggling to understand a rare medical condition where sufferers unknowingly demand, or actually have, sex while asleep, New Scientist magazine reported on Wednesday.
Research into sexsomnia -- making sexual advances toward another person while asleep -- has been hampered as sufferers are so embarrassed by the problem they tend not to own up to it, while doctors do not ask about it.
As yet there is no cure for the condition, which often leads to difficulties in relationships.
"It really bothers me that I can't control it," Lisa Mahoney told the magazine. "It scares me because I don't think it has anything to do with the partner. I don't want this foolish condition to hurt us in the long run."
Most researchers view sexsomnia as a variant of sleepwalking, where sufferers are stuck between sleep and wakefulness, though sexsomniacs tend to stay in bed rather than get up and walk about.
While sleepwalking affects two to four percent of adults, sexsomnia is not thought to be as common a problem, according to Nik Trajanovic, a researcher at the sleep and alertness clinic at Canada's Toronto Western Hospital.
But an Internet survey of sexsomniacs carried out in 2005 that drew 219 reliable respondents concluded it was more prevalent than medical case reports alone might suggest.
"Most of the time sleep sex occurs between people who are already partners," Mark Pressman, a sleep specialist at Lankenan Hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, told the New Scientist.
"Sometimes they hate it," added Pressman of the reactions of sexsomniacs' partners. "Sometimes they tolerate it. On rare occasions you have stories of people liking it better than waking sex."
With no cure, addressing triggering factors -- stress or sleep deprivation -- can help, while Michael Mangan, a psychologist at the University of New Hampshire in the U.S. has set up a Web site, www.sleepsex.org, to help sufferers.
Meanwhile Trajanovic is devising a procedure for diagnosing sexsomnia in legal cases where sufferers have been accused of sexual assault.

"Soap on a string gives gas?" o.k. I don't think I want that recipe.
Hey, hang on to your jockey shorts. All I asked for was some support for your position and you've gone off on a rant.
Sure, I'll wait for you to do that "easy" Google research, but truthfully, I don't expect much, if you even remember to respond at all.
I don't put words in your mouth. Please don't put them in mine. From anything I've posted here you can know little about my political views. You do seem quick to assume though.
Later.
That's what Google says...you win a free organic tomato.
That was really the wrong frase to use.
Anybody speak Portuguese?
To Google all of Bush's speeches is easy. To read it all, sort the information, and come to a conclusion is more difficult. Inasmuch as you are the one who asserts we went to Iraq to fight the extremist Muslims, perhaps you could find that somewhere. I don't recollect that at all.
Now if you were talking about Afghanistan, that's another matter. I hope you make a distinction between the two countries.
That might be the situation now, but I don't believe President Bush ever used fighting "radical Muslims" as a pretext for war with Iraq. Maybe you could source something to support your position?
rr, you got me looking as to perhaps why we are in this war with Iraq, and I just happened upon something President Bush said in a press conference two years ago. I don't know that he was responsive to the question asked, but his answer may help give insight into his reasoning for our presence there.
===========================
Q Mr. President, before the war, you and members of your administration made several claims about Iraq that U.S. troops would be greeted as liberators with sweets and flowers, that Iraqi oil revenue would pay for most of the reconstruction; and that Iraq not only had weapons of mass destruction, but as Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld said, we know where they are. How do you explain to Americans how you got that so wrong? And how do you answer your opponents, who say that you took this nation to war on the basis of what have turned out to be a series a false premises?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, let me step back and review my thinking prior to going into Iraq. First, the lesson of September the 11th is, when this nation sees a threat, a gathering threat, we've got to deal with it. We can no longer hope that oceans protect us from harm. Every threat we must take seriously.
Saddam Hussein was a threat. He was a threat because he had used weapons of mass destruction on his own people. He was a threat because he coddled terrorists. He was a threat because he funded suiciders. He was a threat to the region. He was a threat to the United States. That's the assessment that I made from the intelligence, the assessment that Congress made from the intelligence; that's the exact same assessment that the United Nations Security Council made with the intelligence.
I went to the U.N., as you might recall, and said, either you take care of him, or we will. Any time an American President says, if you don't, we will, we better be prepared to. And I was prepared to. I thought it was important for the United Nations Security Council that when it says something, it means something, for the sake of security in the world. See, the war on terror had changed the calculations. We needed to work with people. People needed to come together to work. And, therefore, empty words would embolden the actions of those who are willing to kill indiscriminately.

"You obviously have no idea what the war is about. It's not about oil."
If we do not defeat the terrorists or extremists in Iraq, they will gain access to vast oil reserves and use Iraq as a base to overthrow moderate governments across the broader Middle East.-- George W. Bush, Press Conference 10/25/06

trkyhntr, first, an apology for re-posting your NOLIB board post on GOV without your permission. Unfortunately, between a ban (for the sin of merely posting on the board, not for violating any board rule), and being on ignore, I had no opportunity. I did, however, ask another poster to communicate the re-post to you, and would have been happy to remove it had you requested.
That said, once in a while, on whatever politics board, there is a post that stands above the rest, and is deserving of recognition for it being well thought out and logical, as well as expressing the author's point of view, and yours was one of those. By the responses your post generated, it seems others agree with me, no matter their political leanings.
I would have chosen to send this to you by PM, but apparently your iggy window has closed again. I hope someone who has access to you will bring this post to your attention.
Again, thank you.
AK
p.s. Good hunting tomorrow.
extelcom, I have not expressed my viewpoint. Please re-read the post, especially the beginning:
Because I'm not allowed to respond on the NOLIB board, I cannot comment there on this post by trkyhntr in response to your "is the left wing evil" post. I hope you will discuss each of his arguments here on GOV, where all can participate.
I would suggest you post to trkyhntr on the NOLIB board, and invite him to an open discussion on GOV, or question his views there, with a smaller group that limits what one can say.
Here's a new one...youse such a nice lady...
Bet the poster is from Chicago.
I'm listening too, and will look forward to the transcript for his comments about control of Iraq's oil. Not the first time I've heard it.
Edit: And another Bushism: "...victory is a government..."
Because I'm not allowed to respond on the NOLIB board, I cannot comment there on this post by trkyhntr in response to your "is the left wing evil" post. I hope you will discuss each of his arguments here on GOV, where all can participate.

I am probably as conservative as most, but I take exception to some of what you posted. A true conservative believes that the government should stay the he11 out of our personal lives, and that such decisions as are personal morality should not be legislated unless it is a danger to others. For this reason, we support laws against murder, theft, and assault, but do not support laws against gambling, drinking, and personal ownership of firearms, for some examples. Let's take some of your points and allow me to present my thinking:
is the "left wing" "evil?"
No more so than the far right. No less, either.
the "left wing" wants to put straws in unborn babies heads and suck their brains out - they call it partial-birth abortion.
This is such an oversimplification that it is hardly worth comment. You would have the right wing pass laws that limit medical procedures such as abortion? Give me a break. It was illegal before. How did that work? Did it stop girls from getting abortions?
the "left wing" wants to give constitutional rights to captured terrorists.
What is the difference between us and totalitarian regimes? It is that our citizens have rights. I tend to agree that we need to limit the rights of convicted criminals. This is not the same as what is being done in Gitmo, is it?
the "left wing" supports same-sex marriage.
Why do you care what two consenting adults do? I could care less about whether two flamers want to get hitched. How's about doing something to save social security or do something to make our borders secure? To me this is a total non issue.
the "left wing" seeks to decriminalize drug use.
Prohibition really worked well. Ask the mafia how much it did for them. Legalize the stuff, tax the he11 out of it, and take criminals out of the equation. Use the tax money raised to deal with the health issues.
the "left wing" wants to allow assisted suicide of your parents.
Stay the he11 out of such a personal decision. Who do you think you are to tell me I can't check out when I want to?
the "left wing" proposes to increase your taxes.
Save me from more tax cuts. Every tax cut we have had increased what I pay. They reduced the rates and then eliminated the deductions. Neither party has been very good in this. Where is that balanced budget the republicrats promised us during the Newt revolution? A conservative does not like debt.
the "left wing" knows better than you how to spend YOUR money.
Sure they do. So does the right wing. So what is your point?
the "left wing" wants to teach masturbation to your kindergarten children.
Where the he11 do you get this stuff? I taught in the public schools for thirty years. What a crock.
the "left wing" gives free condoms to your underage children without your knowledge.
I suppose you are against birth control too. The right wing seeks to ban birth control by any method.
the "left wing" supports full abortion rights of your underage children without your knowledge.
The right wing seeks to ban all abortions regardless of situation.
the "left wing" took GOD out of your schools, and now wants to take Him out of your life completely.
What a bunch of bullpuckey. If god left the schools, it was not on my watch. Nobody prohibits prayer. We had a group of students who met before school every day to study the bible and pray. Nobody did a thing to try to prevent it. What the right wing wants is to establish their brand of religion as the "official" religion, and not to allow any other religion to be practiced. Jews and muslims should be forced to say the Lord's Prayer (protestant version only, thank you).
If you don't consider these things "evil" then, by all means, cast your vote for the democrat party.
I won't be voting democrat, but I am having problems making myself vote for such as Rick Santorum. If it doesn't bother you, enjoy.
I guess I will be banned from this board now. Shame. I am probably more conservative than most, but bullpuckey is bullpuckey.

Uh-oh. That could get your post deleted. It's somewhere in the User Agreement. Consider yourself warned.

TOS'D. Janice cheated. She got the grub after making one of her own posts. Geez, where's grubmaster when you need him?
Certainly doesn't <g>.
