ada - the transmission business is just now waking up from the sleep caused by the recession - imo CTC will come out of bk and shareholders will come out with some added dilution - but we will retain our shares as is
zig - I bought my first shares in Aug of '03 -- have bought many more and a good bucket load at recent lows -- looking to do very well on my investment. of course you have do a little research and have balls to invest in this kind of stock.
re Benton - he and his crew has done far better than other little piss ant companies like 3M, Nexans, etc. in developing and selling tech superior conductor - and they have survived the depression where most similar companies failed.
good luck - and there will still be plenty of room for the risk adverse to make money after it takes off. we will see...
ditto on your post bman
in that post on Yahoo it sounds like CTC has applied for other related/contingent grants - possibly for plant/equipment/etc
Im just guessing - but I think this may end up being some sort of JV with Alcan - whatever it is, it looks to be good and since they will be getting Govt money I would also expect some of the Govt G&Ts to be more inclined to use ACCC - as we know price is not even a consideration for the Govt
it is obvious that the main reason 3M had what few sales they have here in the US was because they had Govt involved early and probably own at least a few politicians
Rio Tinto Alcan + CTC
probably nothing, but it could be that the relationship between Alcan and CTC might be more than just stranding...
What if they formed a JV to facilitate the world-wide expansion of CTCs core manufacturing
http://www.alcancomposites.com/about-us.html
bman - I expect we will be here in this range until CTC announces a game changer - ie the Chinese contracts or details on the Alcan deal - jmo
hopefully they have the 5.5M in their cash drawer and the large order they talked about in progress
seems they have started PRing projects after line completion instead of when the order is received - not sure why?? probably at request of customers..
zig - unfortunately that is the way it is when you have a small company rolling out revolutionary products. the leaches come out of the woodwork trying to suck what ever they can from you....

DeWind won a $30 million order for 10 units of 2-MW-scale wind turbines from Little Pringle) in the U.S
DeWind is a wind turbine manufacturer, subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Energy. The company announced it has received a $30 million order to deliver 10 units of 2-MW-scale wind turbines from Little Pringle in the U.S.
The order will be delivered early this year to be installed in the Little Pringle wind farm, in the Panhandle region of Texas. DeWind expects to begin generating commercial power this summer.
The DeWind D8.2 will produce a total capacity of 20 MW. The D8.2 turbines convert the variable speed of the wind rotor into constant speed with a synchronous generator, which is directly connected to the grid. A complex electronic component is thus replaced by a low-wear drive system without any power electronics.
YoungYoul Goh, chief strategy officer of DSME, stated: “This transaction is the latest step in a sequence of events focused upon establishing a strong beachhead for DSME, and for DeWind turbine deployment in the U.S. and signifies the reintroduction of the DeWind products to the U.S. market. It is the first of many new turbine orders expected subsequent to DSME’s acquisition of DeWind Co in late 2009. DeWind will continue to focus on leveraging the complementary strengths of DSME to close and complete wind turbine orders in 2010 and beyond.”

Little Pringle
http://www.instalbiz.com/news/3-full-new...
didn't CTC maintain some interest in the Pringle farms? and wasn't that 10 turbine deal by Daewoo the same number planned for little pringle when CTC had it? wonder if that deal may have been connected to the money tied up in escrow..
from the 10k
"DSME did not acquire any cash balances of DeWind; acquired only the long-term assets of one of the European subsidiaries, leaving all other assets and liabilities of that entity intact; and did not acquire certain assets and liabilities of the US DeWind subsidiary tied to one turbine supply contract."

gold - we will make that on another trip - this is a guided tour thing so we won't be able to get off the beaten path much
very sorry to hear about your grandson - will keep him and his parents in our prayers
goldrusher - I didnlt know the Guinness Brewery was in Dublin - might have checked it out when we were there -- I did find a couple neat pubs and tip a few of those nasty things though. we are going to Germany for 11days on May 4 - looking forward to that trip and drinking more than a few beers there too.
keep watching this thing - Im thinkin you will be back in.
I am betting the Chinese are not going to walk away and/or pick up some copycore after installing so much CTC core and spending millions marketing it -- and the comments from CTC re deals with more than one strander are a fact that will result in near immediate profitability - then the zhit will hit the fan...
not sure about this "warm and fuzzy" stuff - do you know these guys personally?? or is that just CA lingo?
guess you & boots are getting ready to pack up and head north again -- we were up that way last summer - took an Alaskan cruise - nice - even though Im not too high on cruises
GL
bman - don't know if you saw it, but Alcan came out with a big PR on their new high strength ACSS product about the same time CTC did their deal with them for ACCC
I expect they had been working on their new category of ACSS for some time
could be that the delay in specifics on the Alcan deal is due to Alcan not wanting to spoil their ACSS party with announcements about the CTC deal
or could be they want to get certified to strand ACCC - I dunno...
in any case - I think the deals with China will be such a large financial push for CTC that we will be totally out of the woods re cash from then on...
I believe it is a private company - recently purchased by Rio Tinto - one of [if not THE] largest mining/metals companies in the world -- a really big outfit touching lots of people
the fact that they have great control over the price of AL should be a positive factor for CTC
http://www.riotintoalcan.com/
bman - I quit coming here quite a while back because of the censuring but am getting pretty tired of the endless line of BS spewing from some of the folks at yahoo
looking forward to seeing something on the Chinese deals - hopefully they will be coming sooon..
imo - those deals alone could take most of CTCs current capacity and maybe more
I think they said the Alcan deal would take a few months - but I see that as a very big deal too as lots of investors involved with Alcan / Rio Tinto will pick up on CTC.
malc - re the "patent invalidation" I presume you are referring to the one mercury attempted that failed...
I may be wrong, but I expect CTC will be fighting infringement battles on an ongoing basis - that is the way it is when you have such a "simple" yet very profitable technological advancement applicable to every spot on the planet - particularly the developing countries
through my rose colored glasses I see a significant change of incline in the ramp up over the next few years
good luck - the way I see it - if/when things do pan out there will be lots of opportunity to get back in or add to positions
zig - yes I do - almost every year I have thought they might start the climb but they have hit some hard bumps - unfortunate with the wind business - and primarily as a result of the world wide economic slowdown
the wire business seems to be coming together very good though and imo the potential is incredibly large as they get connections across the globe. my confidence comes from the commitment these companies make -- they spend alot of money becoming qualified to strand ACCC just for the opportunity to get to make/sell the product
I expect a game change when they get the China deals worked out.
malc - sorry about not responding - I just check this site once in a while
I think the story about CTCs patents speaks for itself
you and many of us are waiting to see them turn that corner - it has been more like a really long curve so far -- or as some have stated - a circle
but I do believe this will finally be CTCs year
hello goldrusher
I understand your feelings about BW/CTC but don't agree
first time I visited their plant they had those prototype poles
at first sight I knew they would not work/sell but they believed they would and sounded like they fully planned on making/marketing them - even then the core was their main play and as far as I can see it always has been
I also hate it that the turbine business didn't work out - mostly because a nice US technology went to the Koreans - but it could have been a very good venture if it had not been for all the greedy morons who created and participated in the economic meltdown
lots has gone under the bridge and it appears CTC has survived and is showing signs of great success. I can assure you the companies who have been paying big bucks and putting ACCC in their grid are not doing it without extreme scrutiny
good luck - and maybe we will be able to get together tip a couple more of those nasty Guinness beers some day
looks like mercury got their patent "allowed" what ever that means
http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20100311006704&newsLang=en
I doubt that has any effect on the lawsuits though
"The US Patent Office has no jurisdiction over questions relating to infringement of patents. In examining applications for patent, no determination is made as to whether the invention sought to be patented infringes any prior patent. An improvement invention may be patentable, but it might infringe a prior unexpired patent for the invention improved upon, if there is one."
http://inventors.about.com/od/patentinfr...
good seeing some familiar faces
hello malc - you and the others here should do a small bit of dd before making investment decisions
CTC has several patents on their core, connectors, processes, etc and they will edit their claims in these two and they will recover them with most claims in place
CTC is not located in Tx [they are no longer in the wind turbine business] and they do not have a factory in China - just a stranding/sales relationship -- as they have in other countries
they have made many sales here in the US - I believe one to a muni but most to large utilities
they have certified stranders and marketers of their product in several countries around the world and are by far the leader in world wide sales of composite core wire
nice connections - from yahoo board

quote from fall 2007 EPRI Journal
The infusion of new technologies into
the smart grid over the next 20–30 years
could potentially result in signifi cant
improvements in transmission and distribution
effi ciency. As Mansoor points out,
“T&D losses currently amount to 7% of
the power generated in the United States.
If we could reduce these T&D losses by
just 10%, the kilowatthour savings would
equal all of the wind power generated in
the United States today.”
let's see - AEPs findings were that ACCC reduced losses by what??? 30% ???
don't underestimate the demand for ACCC/JRLX/T
looks like China may be making policy around using wire with reduced line loss for their transmission and distribution systems....
Reduce line losses wire and cable business is the unshirkable social responsibility
The article added :2008-4 - 10
In the wire and cable industry, some business has always been that reduce transmission and distribution line loss is the electricity sector a matter for the wire and cable business unrelated. In fact, the state has drawn up the "energy-saving reduction" industrial policy, reduce line losses is related to the manufacture and use of equipment line departments event. Wire and cable manufacturers also charged with the duty of social responsibility.
As we all know, large power grids in both the super high pressure, high-capacity transmission, or HVDC are to minimize line loss, so as to achieve the generation, transmission and electricity three links reasonable distribution of power loss. In the low-voltage power grids, especially in the urban and rural power grids and civilian enterprises in the electricity grid, power lines losses directly related to residents and the economic interests of enterprises. From the overall situation of national energy management, reduce line loss is equivalent to a saving of energy, thereby saving power generation capacity and the raw materials - coal. According to the State Grid Corporation statistics, in 2007, the State Grid Corporation of the line loss rate fell 0.11 percentage points, to 2.3 billion kwh of electricity conservation, saving 821,000 tons of standard coal. Thus, lower line losses is very important.
In the actual production and daily life activities, frequent complaints voltage and current users of less than the numerical standards, and that leads to equipment and household appliances can not operate normally. In rural and mountainous areas, dim lights, the residents "Kaideng candles" phenomenon is not uncommon.
In addition to the deficiencies lines installed outside links, wire and cable, usually found the main problem is poor conductor material, size is not big enough, resulting resistivity of less than standard for the serious resistance, occupation of both increased line loss, brewing into insecurity.
Now, all enterprises were shouting "fulfill their social responsibilities." When an enterprise truly effective social responsibility in mind when the enterprise product must be able to stand the test of the quality of products, otherwise it will be an empty talk. When copper prices high, abnormal fluctuations, the test wire and cable business is the social responsibility of times. Some factories wire and cable products to the small charge, Sicichonghao, endangering society, and users can not but arouse opposition and social condemnation.
The community is responsible to the people, but also to themselves. 多行不义必自毙。 Was not unjust are doomed to destruction. Quality supervision departments and users of wire and cable manufacturing enterprise product quality inspection results exposure, which in itself is a mature market performance. Faced with the test results of product quality and user criticism processing document, the parties should calmly deal with the factory ERA, self-discipline, self-examination, quickly improved, Qijiutuxin, with their own improved error sincerity and truth, regain customers and the community trust.
Socially responsible, wire and cable industry has become a new trend, the emergence of a group of exemplary enterprises, departments and by the number of users at home. Formulated by the state "energy emission reduction" policy is not an expedient measure but a basic national policy. And reduce line losses, it is the "energy saving emission reduction" one of the specific measures. Cable companies should first make good quality products, in order to reduce line losses and to make contributions, it is incumbent upon social responsibility

Re: Teco Open House 48 minutes ago
I talked to the Gentleman in charge of marketing Dewind at Teco this am, a very nice fellow.
He said there is no open house planned this month and he would know because he would be the guy heading it up if one was planned.Said that at some point there would indeed be one but nothing on the board as yet.
Re: The Dewind project,he said they were now ramping up production, and that all is going well and as planned.
Also ,said that yesterdays news Re: certification was a giant step forward.
Anyway, the question of an open house @ Teco/Westinghouse has been answered IMHO and FWIW.

Oklahoma needs $3.4 billion in electrical line construction to upgrade its high voltage grid and harvest all the wind power coming out of the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas.
But once the lines are in place, power generated by quickly growing wind farms there could be sold to other power markets such as Chicago and Atlanta for as much as $2.4 billion a year, members of a legislative task force studying the issue were told Thursday.
The study was presented to the group by the Southwest Power Pool, a regional transmission organization that works with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to ensure reliable supplies of power, adequate transmission lines and competitive wholesale prices for electricity.
The legislative task force, called the Oklahoma Electric Power Transmission Task Force, must present a final report to Oklahoma's Legislature by the end of this month.
Les Dillahunty, a vice president of regulatory policy for the power pool, told task force members the study proposes a vision for Oklahoma's transmission system in the year 2020. And while it doesn't put a check into Oklahomans' hands, it does represent an opportunity the state has to capture potential revenues from wind sales, he said.
Dillahunty said the study is intended to "prime the pump” for expansion of Oklahoma's high voltage grid.
Jay Caspary, director of engineering for the power pool, told task force members the Oklahoma proposals fit in with the power pool's plans to build a robust power grid for its member utilities.
The existing grid, which covers Kansas, Oklahoma and parts of eastern New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle, and parts of Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana, has the capacity to carry a total of 45 megawatts of electricity during periods of high demand.
Today, it carries a base level of power of about 25 megawatts.
Federal officials estimate eventually there might be a need to carry as much as 20 megawatts of power out of wind farms in the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles. But for the purposes of the pool's study, a need to be able to take up to 15 megawatts of power from the wind farms was assumed.
Other studies involving regional power grids east and south of Oklahoma are anticipating the wind power coming from the state, he said.
beigle - sounds like they are just using ACCR for the river crossing [one span] - 3M will probably loose money on that sale - still good PR for them and a mark in the plus column for composite conductors in general
something else I forgot to mention from the SH meeting - they said the Chinese outfit who has a license from DeWind to mk the D6s is to begin production in June - did not hear how much DeWind gets for each turbine that rolls off their line..
thanks gold - I agree - thats why I came back here - even though the SP is not showing it, I expect this to be a very good year for CPTC

cool vidio shown at the SH meeting of them putting up the turbine in Argentina -- note: altitude nearly equal to the top of Pikes Peak...
http://www.barrick.cl/noticias/detalle_comunicados.php?id=81&info=Noticias
I went to the SH meeting on the 4th - very good meeting - mgmt is very much aware of need to close on turbine deals -- also went by the plant and took a tour -- last time I was there they had one machine running and a couple being set up -- now they have eight machines running core - one of them with two cores pulling -- they are building 6 more machines to have running in 6-8 weeks.
run - I suppose it could also mean they have picked up a significant customer during the period which is not in that number - since he sounded like he was leading to a picture of significant growth, I would tend to think that way...
check out the Raging Bull board or yahoo -- this was at one time a good board.....
29tango - I bet the information and tax programs are all stored on servers and all work is done via an internet connection.
riplet - your statement "In a prior post, it appeared that approximately 264 miles/month of core would be enough to break even at $800k/month burn rate if GC sold ACCC at $6.03/ft."
CTC tells me 80 mi/month will allow them to break even - where did you get your informatioon???
triplet - I think you will find that linnet wire sells for around $2.75/ft -- could be that some of the wire sales are for the smaller size wire which would easily bring the average down to their quoted amount -- what do you think??
trip - do you realize that different sizes of conductor sell for different prices - and some of CTC's sales overseas will be only core to wire wrappers -- before making comments about pricing, you should know what you are talking about -- otherwise you are just spewing a bunch of BS --- as usual.
