Where is everybody?
Has anybody heard from Mickey?
So sorry to hear the news about Mark... he has been my friend here on these boards for over 20 years.
I just can't understand the emotional knee-jerk reaction on selling on a day when we are down $3... doesn't make sense. If you have lost your confidence in the company, you should have sold yesterday... or in a few days when the stock will rebound.
From the trading today it appears that Wall Street and the traders/options folk could give two shits about what the scotus says about patents... I think they are playing on momentum and we ain't got any... but somebody is covering our share price... and that is good.
I know Kyocera is a long time licensee with IDCC, but Gamco's post shows the press release was dated yesterday... it must have been updated or expanded.
Loop, How 'bout dem Rockets! And the Aggies too, LOL!
Coogs did well too, got beat by a lucky shot.
All is good.
Fish, Magillagorilla is a trusted, long time poster on this board. Many of us are concerned with her absence. I find your post inappropriate.
Obviously they have more confidence in this company than you do.
Nice day to start the new year... volume isn't much to shout about, but most of the big traders are probably still on vacation. Hopefully the ZTE news will sink in within the next few days.
Thanks olddog. You were the first to post.
Loop, Olddog, My3sons... is there any significance to the fact that this decision wasn't released until after trading was closed for the year? Was this decided by the court? At the request of the parties? It seems it could have been released earlier and had an effect on share prices. Interesting to see what happens after the New Year's break.
Fish, are you actually comparing an employee bonus to a shareholder dividend?
I find it somewhat intriguing, at least hopeful, that the recent agreement with LG, and earlier Samsung, will have further applications and collaboration in the sensor, Iot markets. Don't forget, Samsung and LG are major players in the home appliance space... high end major players.
Fish, you really have no idea what applications or market these sensors are targeting... do you?
Thanks for the post Gamco...
From the article: "Spokespeople for Qualcomm, Broadcom, and Google declined to comment. A spokesperson for Microsoft couldn't be reached for comment."
These are $100B+ companies... and we have folks constantly griping about our little flea not answering their stupid questions... as Data use to say... "Sigh"
Yes, but it kept over half... us longs have nothing but time. If you are short, time is your enemy.
Great post xdx... I can't believe Mickey called you out, of all people.
The Truth About Patent Lawsuits
Save the Inventor and its allies are committed to protecting small inventors, innovators, and businesses in the United States against overbroad patent legislation that threatens to weaken the patent system.
Over the last few years, there has been a consistent narrative from anti-patent organizations and companies claiming that patent litigation is on the rise and that it’s weakening innovation in America.
It’s time to share the truth about patent lawsuits in the U.S.
False Claim: Patent Lawsuits Are on the Rise
Proponents of weaker patents want people to believe that patent lawsuits are rampant and swamping our economy. But the facts don’t back that up. The truth is that patent litigation rates have been steadily falling in the U.S. According to PWC’s latest analysis, patent litigation dropped by 9% in 2016, falling to its lowest level in more than 4 years. Using a different methodology, legal analytics company Lex Machina reported a 22% drop in 2016.
It is also important to note that much of the prior increase in patent litigation can be attributed to a provision in the 2011 America Invents Act that required patent holders to file separate suits for each case of infringement, instead of consolidating cases in a single suit. So, to a large extent, the increase in the number of suits filed never indicated an actual increase in litigation.
False Claim: “Patent Trolls” Engage in Legalized Extortion
It’s not cheap or easy to create something patent-worthy. By instilling a guaranteed property right on inventions, patents provide an important financial incentive for inventors and for the investors who finance their work. Once an inventor has a patent, it is their choice if they want to produce the product themselves, license the IP rights to a manufacturer or even sell the patent outright. All three options are legal and legitimate, and help contribute to our innovation economy by allowing new scientific and technological breakthroughs to come to market.
If a patent owner finds that a party is infringing on their intellectual property, it is entirely within their right to ask for what is owed to them or to file a lawsuit in order to ensure the infringement ends. Intellectual property is still property after all. And the theft of intellectual property is the same as the theft of any other property. Protecting what is yours does not make you a troll and it certainly isn’t extortion.
It must be noted that there are bad actors that take advantage of the patent system and engage in frivolous litigation. But these frivolous cases can be addressed with targeted legislation, such as the recently-introduced STRONGER Patents Act. Importantly, any new legislation should not impact the ability of legitimate patent holders to protect their patent rights.
False Claim: “Patent Trolls” Are Turning Their Focus to Small Businesses
United for Patent Reform, one of the leading anti-patent organizations, has been claiming that “in 2016, the majority of companies sued by patent trolls were small businesses.” They invoke the image of mom and pop shops on Main Street being harassed by endless legal attacks. But to come up with this misleading statistic, they have defined “small businesses” as companies with revenue of $100 million or less. By using this broad definition, they are clearly capturing companies that no one would consider a “small business.”
It is more likely that many of these companies being sued for infringement are members of supply chains or retailers that provide infringing components or knowingly profit from the sale of products with infringing IP.

Man, this board is dead. At one time it was one of the busiest on iHub... too many deletions ran off the posters, imo.
Mickey, welcome back to the USA. Much speculation here about your health, but I knew you were too tough to quit fighting. And I knew you had posted earlier about a trip to China to see your wife's family.
Jimlur, maybe so, but if I was going out of town or leave the country for an extended period, I wouldn't post it on social media or a message board, but that's just me.
Fish, as far as hurricane or flood damage, I think Tallahassee came through relatively unscathed. I stay in touch with an old poster here, Techlover, who has relocated to the Tallahassee area and he said they had some rain and moderate wind but that's all.
MickeyBritt, I seem to recall that Mickey said he planned to take a trip to China to meet his wife's family. Maybe this explains his absence.
You did good Texastennis.
Speaking of Mickey... any body have an update?
Thanks Sarge!!! You and I have been around here a long time. I agree that something is up... we will see. If it drops $2 tomorrow I am sure we will hear from our friend Miller.
It is sad what has happened to this board. We are up nearly 4% on over 700K shs traded. In the good old days we would have over 100 posts... today, less than 10.
Jimlur, what's up? Loop, where are you?
I guess this may be what Mschere used to talk about... only a few long shareholders are left. This is a positive imo. Most may have capitulated... I will get rich.
Buyback... I disagree. Over 700K shares? IDCC can't buy half that many in one day. I don't know the reason, but it certainly is no time to sell when we have this type of up volume, on a day when the market is down.
Volume seems too high for just the buyback. The overall market is down and IDCC is flying.
Something is gonna pop here soon... within the next 3-4 months. Hang in there longs.
As Loop knows... my wife Cecilia is a pretty good bowler too, LOL!
Thanks for all the prayers. As a resident of SE Texas, I just want to say it takes more than prayers. Like my wife Cecilia... who is a HS Physics teacher. She has spent 3 days volunteering at relief centers. She has donated many air mattresses, diapers, and baby wipes. Out of her own pocket (she bought every air mattress left at Academy, and all of the diapers left at our Walmart, out of her own pocket). She will go to school tomorrow and start classes... and hug the kids, and start teaching them science... life goes on.
Thanks for the update JimLur and Olddog. I know he was worried that they are releasing water from both the Addicks and Barker resevoirs, and the Brazos river has yet to crest.
We are fine, thanks for asking. Has anybody heard how Loop is doing?
F6, thanks again. During Alecia I sat on the floor in our spare bedroom and watched 100 foot pine trees bend over 45 degrees. Then about a 5-10 minute period of calm as the eye passed. Then all hell broke loose again as the pines were bent over the other direction. Somehow none of them broke, but the next week or so I had 22 of those big bastards removed... couldn't grow grass under them anyway. Since then, about 34 years ago, the oaks have thrived and have gotten huge.
We lost two beautiful oaks, one red and one a white, from the drought.
During Ike, a large oak near the lake and a native hickory near the house smashed my side porch and damaged my roof. I still have some of the great stove and bbq wood left... not much.
I hate to do it, but I may have to remove a couple of the big reds that are close enough to the house, or at least have them trimmed back...a lot.
Well, you know where I is... LOL! You are right, that is Lake Arrowhead. I hope you had a bowl or two of Jake Borski's chili... maybe the best in history... and a few cold beers while some locals jammed on guitars. Lot has changed over the years.
Thanks F6, you are the iHub guru, LOL! The water got above that ladder that is sticking out of the water about 4 inches, but it has receded about 6 inches today. I think our spillway is probably obstructed somewhat by debris. I am not worried about our house being flooded, as the main floor is above the level of the dam. Fortunately, we have not lost electricity as we have several times in past hurricanes for extended periods of time (11 days Alicia). Our greatest fear is high winds and/or tornados, and I think we are dodging that bullet this time. F6 knows more than anyone what damage high wind can do... our red oaks just couldn't stand the strain with this saturated soil... and they are huge and heavy.
