PowerLinx Acquires Digital Transmission Patents
Wednesday February 4, 3:34 pm ET
TIERRA VERDE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 2004--PowerLinx, Inc. (OTCBB:PWLX - News), the leader in power line communication products, has acquired multiple patents defining digital transmission through regular power lines and also through twisted pair wires.
These patented techniques enhance the distance and quality of service (QOS) of a digital signal transmission delivered through power lines and twisted pair wires. Companies will be able to use the developed technology in a multiple of industries including but not limited to:
Security Systems
Automotive Systems
Other applications such as Building and/or Home Communication Systems
The combined markets for these industries are in the multiple of billions of dollars giving PowerLinx a proprietary advantage in the area of digital transmission.
Digital Powerline technology provides the transmission of video and data to users over the same lines that bring electric power to homes and businesses. Companies can use Digital Powerline Technology to implement networks across standard electric powerlines and will enjoy the tremendous business benefit of lower implementation costs and greater flexibility in their corporate applications.
Digital Powerline technology also provides convenient home or business Internet access. There is no need for bulky in-house apparatus associated with wireless access or for additional purchases of cables.
The technology will also be applicable in transportation applications where systems can be built to dramatically reduce the number of wires in a car, truck or bus. Basic control functions such as turn signals to more advanced applications such as on board computers can all function with greatly simplified wiring harnesses. This translates into savings in cost, materials, and weight. The digital applications will be a great compliment to the Company's patented PowerLine Vision Systems(TM) (PLVS) for heavy duty trucks, recreational vehicles, and SUVs which provides video from side or rear-vision cameras that are sent to the driver via an analog PLC (power line carrier) signal for viewing on a flat-panel or green phosphorous video display.
Utilizing this proprietary technology, PowerLinx will have the ability to deliver on a technical vision which has tremendous worldwide applications. PowerLinx is one of the first technology companies that have operating systems which allow an organization to install a digital based security system to survey and monitor an entire location from both the internal and external environments.
About PowerLinx, Inc.:
PowerLinx, Inc., http://www.power-linx.com, designs, manufactures and markets, among other devices, products and applications developed to transmit voice, video, audio and data either individually or any and all combinations over power lines and twisted pair wires, in AC and DC power environments, on any and all power grids. New Visual Corporation Takes Aim at the Broadband Boom
Wednesday February 4, 8:05 am ET
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 2004--New Visual Corporation (OTCBB:NVEI - News), an emerging provider of semiconductors to the high-speed data networking industry, is taking aim at the boom market for broadband semiconductors. Fueled by exploding growth in demand for online voice, video, gaming and data applications on a worldwide basis, telephone companies have asked the company for new technical solutions to speed up their time to market and lower their costs. New Visual's products will offer a unique and powerful answer to the telephone companies' needs.
Code-named Embarq(TM), New Visual's proprietary technology will let telephone companies upgrade the "last mile" portion of their copper access networks to speeds up to 90 megabits per second. Currently, these networks operate at a tenth to a thousandth of this speed. Embarq operates faster and reaches farther than any other broadband semiconductor. And best of all, an upgrade to Embarq's technology does not involve costly infrastructure improvements to the telecom network.
New Visual is in the advanced prototype stage with Embarq, and is planning to ship the commercial version of the product in the form of an ASIC this year.
The broadband boom is happening around the world and in many different contexts:
The Telecommunications Industry Association said spending on high-speed Internet access in the U.S. rose 41 percent in 2003, and will grow at a compound annual rate of 17.5 percent through 2007, rising to an estimated $25 billion. By 2007, TIA predicts, high-speed subscribers in the U.S. will total 47 million, up from 21.6 million in 2003.
Numbers from the DSL Forum also show strong broadband -- and in particular DSL -- growth worldwide. Globally, the DSL industry added more than 25 million subscribers in 2003, the Forum said, bringing the worldwide total to more than 55 million subscribers. Japan continues to lead the world in total DSL subscribers at 9.2 million, while the U.S. has 8.2 million and China clocks in at 7.8 million. Eleven countries had more than a million DSL subscribers at the end of September 2003, the forum said, with five of those countries in Europe. DSL subscriber growth in Portugal shot up 62 percent in just the first half of 2003, while China alone added more than 2.2 million subscribers during that same time period.
According to Forrester Research's Pervasive Gaming, "Subscription-based Massively Multiplayer Online Games are projected to hit $1 billion in sales by 2005, growing at over 58% annually."
About New Visual Corporation
Based in San Diego, New Visual is a late-development-stage fabless communications semiconductor company. Go Online to Unveil Wi-Fi E-Commerce Division on February 9th, 2004
Wednesday February 4, 7:00 am ET
www.WiFiBuyNow.com Puts Digital West on Wi-Fi Map
CHATSWORTH, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Feb 4, 2004 -- Joe Naughton, CEO of Go Online Networks Corp. (OTC BB: GONT), announced today that its computer services division Digital West Marketing plans on unveiling a new e-commerce website focused on the latest wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) products and services on Febuary 9th, 2004. Digital West Marketing plans on utilizing a technologically advanced inventory management system referred to as "virtual warehousing."
A recent article from the 12-6-03 edition of the Orange County Register elaborated on this concept. "Technology has made distribution substantially more efficient. Instead of carrying inventory, retailers and e-commerce companies can open up their PC and place an order and give instructions to ship from that distribution center. It's like they have a virtual warehouse." Digital West Marketing has been in discussion with major computer and electronics distributors to build out the e-commerce strategy and will be announcing the formation of these relationships in the near future.
The merchandising team from Digital West have been selecting a product line for the Wi-Fi e-commerce site based upon consumer demand and competitive pricing. Currently products in the Wi-Fi arena will include the latest offerings from D-Link, Netgear and Linksys. Additionally, numerous other manufacturers are being reviewed as potential suppliers in the Wi-Fi arena.
As the Digital West management team pointed out in our November press release, the most promising area of growth for the company is clearly the Wi-Fi arena. The statistical reports deserve reiteration due to the expansive nature of the growth projections. The Boston Consulting Group has estimated that global mobile commerce will generate revenues of $100 billion in 2003 and that an estimated 35 billion emails will be sent per day by 2005. Notebook computer usage is expected to grow to over 150 million users globally and to over 60 million notebook users in the US by 2005. Shipment of wireless enabled notebooks is expected to reach over 15 million units by 2005. Wireless public access service revenues are expected to grow to over $640 million by 2006 up from $11 million in 2001 based on an increase of from 2,000 locations to 42,000 respectively.
About Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi -- short for "Wireless Fidelity" -- is a short-range wireless technology that makes it possible for portable computing devices to connect to the Internet. Business users now routinely seek out Wi-Fi Internet connectivity at public places called "Hot Spots" to access email and web sites on their laptop computers. Hot Spots have sprung up at airports, hotels, and coffee shops. The Wi-Fi services market is projected to grow to $44 billion in 2008. The Wi-Fi technology is being adopted by a wide range of companies and industries including Nextel, Motorola, McDonald's, Starbucks and many other non-profits and small businesses. The equipment is inexpensive, and most new laptop computers and many PDA's are now being shipped with integrated Wi-Fi capability. Wi-Fi technology conforms to an industry standard for wireless equipment -- published as 802.11(x) standards. Wi-Fi equipment operates today in unlicensed radio frequency spectrum -- including the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
About Go Online Networks Corp.
Go Online Networks Corp. is a Southern California-based technology holding company. Currently, its major operating subsidiary Digital West Marketing Services Inc. is an emerging player in the $100 billion Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) sector. In 2002 the company generated revenues of over $12 million and was profitable for the year. The core of Digital West's revenue is derived from acquiring personal computers and computer printers from retailers and manufacturers, then refurbishing the product to manufacturer's specifications and then reselling the products to the secondary markets. The company has received factory refurbishing authority from industry leaders Hewlett-Packard and Compaq.
Approximately 75 percent of the company's 2002 revenues are derived from the sale of desktop system (CPU and monitor), 20 percent notebooks and five percent personal digital assistants (PDA).
This press release contains forward-looking statements made pursuant to the safe harbor provisions of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. Expression of future goals and similar expressions reflecting something other than historical fact involve risks and uncertainties. The actual results the company achieves may differ materially from any forward-looking statements due to such risks and uncertainties.
