New Visual Corporation Takes Aim at the Broadband Boom
Wednesday February 4, 8:05 am ET

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 2004--New Visual Corporation (OTCBB:NVEI - News), an emerging provider of semiconductors to the high-speed data networking industry, is taking aim at the boom market for broadband semiconductors. Fueled by exploding growth in demand for online voice, video, gaming and data applications on a worldwide basis, telephone companies have asked the company for new technical solutions to speed up their time to market and lower their costs. New Visual's products will offer a unique and powerful answer to the telephone companies' needs.
Code-named Embarq(TM), New Visual's proprietary technology will let telephone companies upgrade the "last mile" portion of their copper access networks to speeds up to 90 megabits per second. Currently, these networks operate at a tenth to a thousandth of this speed. Embarq operates faster and reaches farther than any other broadband semiconductor. And best of all, an upgrade to Embarq's technology does not involve costly infrastructure improvements to the telecom network.

New Visual is in the advanced prototype stage with Embarq, and is planning to ship the commercial version of the product in the form of an ASIC this year.

The broadband boom is happening around the world and in many different contexts:

The Telecommunications Industry Association said spending on high-speed Internet access in the U.S. rose 41 percent in 2003, and will grow at a compound annual rate of 17.5 percent through 2007, rising to an estimated $25 billion. By 2007, TIA predicts, high-speed subscribers in the U.S. will total 47 million, up from 21.6 million in 2003.
Numbers from the DSL Forum also show strong broadband -- and in particular DSL -- growth worldwide. Globally, the DSL industry added more than 25 million subscribers in 2003, the Forum said, bringing the worldwide total to more than 55 million subscribers. Japan continues to lead the world in total DSL subscribers at 9.2 million, while the U.S. has 8.2 million and China clocks in at 7.8 million. Eleven countries had more than a million DSL subscribers at the end of September 2003, the forum said, with five of those countries in Europe. DSL subscriber growth in Portugal shot up 62 percent in just the first half of 2003, while China alone added more than 2.2 million subscribers during that same time period.
According to Forrester Research's Pervasive Gaming, "Subscription-based Massively Multiplayer Online Games are projected to hit $1 billion in sales by 2005, growing at over 58% annually."
