SODI moving up nicely this morning.
I was surprised to be able to buy some at $0.97 this morning after that 10-Q was issued yesterday. Currently trading at $1.30 at a new 52-week high. That should put some eyeballs on it.
MSGI - MIVA
That's one of my pick 6 stocks. It really got beaten down, but it's been making a nice move up as of late. At some point it may get taken out by a company which would rather buy than build their own search/pay per click technology.
Yield - RELM:
I'm holding a few shares of RELM. They didn't give a dollar amount, but it sounds like it could potentially be a very big contract. The USPS has a gazillion locations......
Here's the PR for anyone interested:
"WEST MELBOURNE, Fla., July 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RELM Wireless Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: RELM - News) today announced that it has been awarded a contract by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to provide on an exclusive basis two-way portable radios and accessories to installations throughout the U.S. and its territories and possessions, including main and associate post offices, administrative offices, training and technical centers, and headquarters. Functions that will utilize the products at these facilities include delivery and administrative operations, window services, law enforcement and general office applications. This contract is designated as an exclusive requirements contract by the USPS. Accordingly, it requires that all USPS two-way radio requirements in these categories be provided by RELM. The contract is effective for an initial term of one year starting immediately, and provides for four one-year renewals.
RELM President and CEO David Storey commented, "We are very pleased to secure an exclusive requirements contract with a significant federal government agency such as the Postal Service. We included functionality specifically requested by the Postal Service, again demonstrating our commitment to listen to our customers and meet their requirements. Our products have a proven record of quality and durability in some of the most demanding environments, which we understand was also an important consideration for the Postal Service. We are looking forward to serving the Postal Service and exceeding their expectations.""
Wade - MPAD:
That info is always in the notice of the annual meeting. You've seen those ownership tables before.
That kind of ownership position can be a positive or a negative. Unfortunately, in this particular case it seems to be a negative. I guess a whole lot depends upon the integrity of the majority holder and whether he feels any loyalty towards the minority shareholders who (at some point) helped finance his company.
It's up 50 cents today, though; so maybe in the end it really doesn't matter all that much. Value will be served.
Knobias spotlights AMLJ
Knobias, Inc. Announces AML Communications Inc. as the SPOT of the Week in Its Small-Cap ClipReport.
MPAD.OB - Majority holder
Heinz-Werner Hempel owns about 75 percent of the outstanding shares of MPAD. He is also a director of MPAD and the COO of a company located in Germany. I think we can safely assume he is the one calling the shots. Now why wouldn't he want the company to issue earnings PRs when they are putting up such good numbers????????
rrufff - sounds like a good system.
I think you'll continue to do well with that approach. What we sometimes lose sight of is the fact that these microcaps are like babies. Compared to the blue chips, they are like embryos. They need time to develop. The best times are WAY AHEAD of them.
Researcher - ETEC:
I read the PR twice, and still couldn't understand the tender offer issue; so I sold at $2.85. I've never been a big fan of mergers. Often they are like marriages......everything looks great at the outset.......then your life becomes a living hell. I'm still holding 100 shares in the never-sell portfolio, though.
It would have been a lot nicer if they would have issued this PR when the stock was trading around a buck instead of 3.
ETEC PR - Anyone understand this? (eom)
Hweb - Nice call on DWVS.
It's had a nice steady rise putting it at a new 52-week high today. Currently trading at 25 cents.
CGHI.OB
Can't speak to the legitimacy of this, but here's the PR:

Knowledge - Re: SODI
I don't think you can rely on that checked box for insight into the quarter's results since they checked the same box on their late filing notice for the last 10-K. Those results were huge improvements for both the quarter and the year.
MPAD.OB - To compound the lack of visibility, Yahoo didn't pick up the 10-Q filing for some reason or another.
On the subject of young Mr. Lahiji..........
As of April 30 of this year, according to Yahoo, CYDS.OB accounted for 6.2% of the total assets of Lahiji's Frontier Equity Fund. That's different.
As far as having a hot hand, his fund is down almost 12% YTD. Maybe his public prognostications are doing better.
HX - Interesting situation
Company just sold a division which represented about 25% of its revenues for $12.5 million. Currently trading at $3.95 which equals a market cap of just about $12.5 million. There are some other things going on here, but with 75 percent of their revenue base intact after the sale I bought some this morning. Quote just moved up to $4.08 x $4.25.
Replacing one pick:
Please take out UUU and replace it with MFCO. Thanks
Larrybaz
UUU
Took some profits today. I don't know if the gross margin was down in the 4th quarter or if they threw in some off the wall expenses or what the deal is; but the increase in profits was not commensurate with the increase in revenues. It's still not expensive, but I think it may become cheaper in the short term.

Wade - THK
On June 14, it closed at $2.03 and had a nice run all the way up to a close of $3.18 on June 21st. I'll bet there were some people who knew the outcome of the litigation prior to the rest of us. Those are the same people selling today if I were to hazard a guess.
Nice day for TGIS.OB
Stock is currently up 45 cents at $3.00 for a new 52-week high. TSTA.OB also hit a 52-week high today. Correction on TGIS.OB......now $3.23.
SMID - Pre-market trading at $1.85 +.29 (eom)
Here are my picks:
UCIA.OB
MIVA
EZEN.OB
TSTA.OB (marginally profitable last quarter)
URGI
UUU

Heavy women..........
Ya gotta love 'em. Started a small position in URGI today. United Retail Group is a clothing chain that caters to the plus-sized woman, and there are a lot of plus-sized women (and men, to be fair) out there. Anyway, it looks like management has turned things around. They were consistently reporting sizeable losses, but have been profitable for the last two quarters. Last news out was a 10% comparable store sales increase for May. It's not cheap, but if the turnaround continues this could be a good entry point.
Bobwins - WHAI
I have some of the same concerns as Wade regarding the balance sheet. But I would be willing to put those concerns aside if they do, in fact, have a blow-up nurse division. Now that would be a catalyst for a much higher stock price.
Bigpike - SODI:
You're right, that 10-K has all kinds of good stuff in it. My chief concern is with the reduced backlog. I think management is pretty conservative in their presentation of things.
Here's another interesting tidbit from the 10-K:
"During May 2005 the Company settled approximately $372,000 of debt obligations
to unsecured creditors at a discount. The Company will recognize the
extinguishment of debt as other income in the first quarter of fiscal year 2006."
So the first quarter should be helped out by this latest debt settlement.
MSGI - I hope JVA acts like ERS.
I'm still holding a small amount of ERS. I sold most of it as it continued to go up. I don't own a whole lot of JVA either, but I'm going to hold on and see what happens.
By the way, thanks for stomping up and down about VPHM. I bought a small amount, and I hope it hits your $20 target. That would buy a few cheeseburgers. Bring on the glamour crowd!!!!!!!
MSGI - JVA
Actually I believe Avandalay gave us JVA way back in May sometime. I'm still holding onto my shares. It sure had a strong finish today. Hopefully it continues.
cl001 - UUU
I hope that IPO happens sometime before they bury me. I'm starting to wonder.
I recently bought some in the 12s. Unfortunately I was also holding some and watching in dismay as it drifted down that far.
MSGI - Are you getting a caffeine rush? (eom)
Bbotcs - UUU - More info:
Maybe things did go well for them at the trade show. I hope so, because I'm long the stock.
I just dug up some interesting info from a 13D/A filed on May 20. Michael Kovens is the former Chairman and CEO of UUU. He owns about 20 percent of the stock. He's been in a legal battle with management for quite awhile. Anyway, here's the excerpt from the 13D/A:
"On April 11, 2005, Mr. Kovens nominated himself as a candidate for the Board of Directors of the Company and was informed by the Company on April 15, 2005 that his nomination was accepted. Mr. Kovens is seeking board representation to protect his significant investment in the Company. Mr. Kovens is seeking board representation because he believes that the Company is too small to remain as an independent company and that the Board should immediately retain an investment banker to review ways to maximize shareholder value. The review includes conducting a comprehensive review and analysis of the value that could be achieved by remaining an independent company versus the Company's value from a possible business combination in which the Company may be either the acquiror or the seller. Mr. Kovens believes that the only way he can be assured that his proposal receives appropriate consideration is through board representation. Except as previously noted in this Schedule 13D, the Reporting Person does not have any other plans or proposals which relate to, or could result in, any of the matters referred to in paragraphs (a) through (j), inclusive, of Item (4) of Schedule 13D. The Reporting Person may, however, at any time and from time to time, review or reconsider his position and formulate plans or proposals with respect thereto."
Any ideas about today's UUU price action?
Price is up $1.79 to $17.40. I don't see any news or SEC filings. They should be reporting 4th quarter earnings by the end of the month. Maybe it's a pre-earnings rally.
SSTR very strong today on this PR:
http://biz.yahoo.com/iw/050620/089013.html
Company is nasdaq listed and has a very strong balance sheet. New 52-week high set today. Might be something to look at.
Wade - CKCM and Ford
What's amazing is that both CKCM and FORD could have both been bought in the dollar and change range in the last couple of years or so.
I currently own some UCIA. I think it could go much higher than where it is presently. I know there has been a lot of talk about the timing of the flu season affecting the recent earnings, but if you combine the first two quarters of this year and last; you will throw out the flu timing and get a true comparison of the revenue gain. First 6 months of '05 was $27.7 million versus $24.3 million for the first 6 months of '04.
This company seemed to be sleepwalking for quite awhile, but they may have awakened. If they have, you don't want to miss it. I think the downside could be about $1.50 a share if they totally disappoint, but if they continue reporting good numbers this thing could fly.
Bobwins - Opportunity to blossom:
I agree. I think we sometimes lose sight of the fact that most of these companies are extremely small (microcaps - duh), so the good ones have exponential growth ahead of them.
As an example, I bought 1000 shares of HANS on 8/14/03 for $5.43 a share and sold on 11/7/03 for $6.99 a share. That seemed like a pretty nice percentage profit in less than three months.
HANS closed yesterday at $81 and change. It looks like I left about $74,000 on the table.
I think you can compare a good solid group of microcaps to infants. A few will die very young (BK), most will lead ordinary lives, but a few will do extremely well for themselves.
Hweb - Your NWD seems to be breathing fire. (eom)
SODI reported nice numbers yesterday in 10K.
Company reported 10 cents diluted for thier 4th quarter. For the year, earnings were 21 cents diluted. Earnings are untaxed, but they have $15.6 million of operating loss carryforwards. Stock is currently quoted at .85 x .95. Balance sheets looks pretty good. They were in BK some years ago, and still have some payments to make to creditors. Management cites liquidity issues with regard to making those payments, but they seem to be quite conservative in their presentation of things. Anyway, I bought more today at .85. Unfortunately, this looks like another company which doesn't issue PRs. Their backlog is down, though.
TVOC up another $1.19 today.
It closed at $8.59. They are pumping it pretty hard on the Yahoo message boards:
http://search.messages.yahoo.com/search/messages?tag_M=tvoc&fname_M=txt_main
TVOC now at $8.25
Yahoo shows the float at 212k shares.
Lasherm hits the bullseye with TVOC.
See message #11474. Last trade $7 up $2.50 on the day.
