OMAHA, Neb. — Warren Buffett said Saturday that Berkshire Hathaway doesn’t plan on taking full control of Occidental Petroleum, an oil giant where it has amassed a stake north of 20%.
“There’s speculation about us buying control, we’re not going to buy control,” the ‘Oracle of Omaha’ said at Berkshire’s annual shareholder meeting. “We wouldn’t know what to do with it.”
In August last year, Berkshire received regulatory approval to purchase as much as a 50% stake. Since then, Buffett has been steadily adding to his bet, including this year, boosting the conglomerate’s stake in the Houston-based energy producer to 23.5%. The moves had fueled speculation that the 92-year-old investor could acquire the whole company.
“We will not be making any offer for control of Occidental, but we love the shares we have,” Buffett said. “We may or may not own more in the future but we certainly have warrants on what we got on the original deal on a very substantial amount of stock around $59 a share, and warrants last a long time, and I’m glad we have them.”
Berkshire owns $10 billion of Occidental preferred stock, and has warrants to buy another 83.9 million common shares for $5 billion, or $59.62 each. The warrants were obtained as part of the company’s 2019 deal that helped finance Occidental’s purchase of Anadarko.
Shares of Occidental were down about 3% this year, after more than doubling in 2022. The stock was the best-performing name in the S&P 500 last year.
'They make me vomit': Richard Dreyfuss slams Oscars' new woke inclusivity rules that 'treat people like children' as he praises Lawrence Olivier's portrayal of Othello

Academy Award-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss has slammed the Oscars' new diversity and inclusion requirements and said 'they make me vomit'.
Films will have to meet minimum requirements related to representation and inclusion to be eligible for the best picture award under new rules.
The Academy of Motion Picture will disqualify films from Best Picture contention that do not have enough black, gay and disabled actors in the cast and crew from 2024.
But Jaws star Dreyfuss, 75, hit out at the woke rules during an episode of PBS’ Firing Line, which aired on Friday, and claimed the Academy was treating people like children by implementing the new criteria.
The actor also defended Laurence Olivier’s performance in the 1965 film Othello in which he played the lead character in blackface.
Host Margaret Hoover asked Dreyfuss what he thought about the incoming inclusivity rules and he replied: 'They make me vomit.
'No one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is. What are we risking? Are we really risking hurting people’s feelings?
'You can’t legislate that. You have to let life be life and I’m sorry, I don’t think there is a minority or majority in the country that has to be catered to like that.
Dreyfuss, who won the best actor Oscar in 1978 for his leading role for The Goodbye Girl, added: 'This is an art form. It’s also a form of commerce, and it makes money, but it’s an art.
'And no one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is.'
He then went on to defend English actor Olivier who wore blackface to portray Othello in the 1965 Shakespeare adaption.
'Laurence Olivier was the last white actor to play Othello, and he did it in 1965,' Dreyfuss said.
'And he did it in blackface. And he played a black man brilliantly.
'Am I being told that I will never have a chance to play a Black man? Is someone else being told that if they’re not Jewish, they shouldn’t play The Merchant of Venice?
'Are we crazy? Do we not know that art is art? This is so patronizing. It’s so, it’s so thoughtless, and treating people like children.'
Hoover asked him if 'there’s a difference between the question of representation and who is allowed to represent other groups?'
She highlighted the case of blackface and said: 'explicitly in this country, given the history of slavery and the sensitivities around black racism.'
But Dreyfuss responded: 'There shouldn’t be. … Because it’s patronizing. Because it says we’re so fragile that we can’t have our feelings hurt.
'We have to anticipate having our feelings hurt, our children’s feelings hurt. We don’t know how to stand up and bop the bully in the face.'
The Academy Awards shake-up means films hoping to win Best Picture from 2024 will have to hire more black, female, LGBT or disabled cast and crew or address themes that affect those communities.
Those seeking best picture nominations have to meet two out of four requirements.
They include having at least one lead character in the movie be from an 'an underrepresented racial or ethnic group', having at least 30 per cent of the cast be from at least two underrepresented groups- ethnic minorities, women LGBTQ+ people or people with disabilities- or having the movie’s subject focus on one.
The organization passed its Aperture 2025 initiative in 2020, five years after the #OscarsSoWhite controversy in order to promote more diversity in the industry, but the move has been under fire ever since.
It was spearheaded by black filmmaker Ava DuVernay and developed by the academy to set criteria - which included diversifying nearly every aspect of a movie, from cast and crew to production, marketing, financing, distribution and even internships by 30 per cent.
But critics say woke Hollywood bosses are turning the awards ceremony into a political weapon.
Dreyfuss' actor son Ben, 36, sparked fury on Twitter earlier this year when he declared he'd never date or sleep with a 'fat person' and would encourage a partner to lose weight.
Ben, a writer and self-styled comedian, made the remarks in a thread on January 18.
Spring-boarding from an unrelated article titled 'You need help: You fat-shamed your beautiful girlfriend,' he began his 'schtick'.
'That is outrageous! I've never dated a fat person!' he declared, before launching a multi-tweet thread on the topic.
Mage Wins 149th Kentucky Derby

(video of the home stretch in link)
Overcoming 15-1 odds, Mage raced to victory at the 149th Kentucky Derby Saturday, rallying late to beat Two Phils for the top spot.
After a string of equine deaths leading up to the historic race at Churchill Downs, there were no clear favorites to win the May 6 race, ESPN reported. Though boasting only one victory in his previous three races, Mage covered the 1 1/4 miles in 2:01.57, securing a win for veteran jockey Javier Castellano and trainer Gustavo Delgado – both of Venezuela, CBS News reported
“It’s a little horse, but a big heart,” Castellano told USAToday.
The win is a first for Castellano, who told the outlet his dream, since coming to the United States from Venezuela, has been to race in the Kentucky Derby. Castellano realized that dream, racing in two previous Derbies before securing this win. “When I ran two times, you remember, those horses very bad. But this time, I sure that the horse very, very good,” he told USAToday
Only 2-years old, Mage went head-to head against more experienced rivals, lagging behind the pack until the last stretch, which saw the young colt win by a length over Two Phil’s and Angel of Empire, ESPN reported.

Was Pfizer or Moderna allowed on the grounds?
Two more horses have died at Churchill Downs, the home of the famed Kentucky Derby, officials from the track announced on Saturday. A total of seven horses have now died at the racetrack in the week-long lead up to the race.
Three-year-old Chloe’s Dream was euthanized following Race 2 on Saturday, after taking a bad step leaving the first turn and being taken off in an equine ambulance, according to CNN affiliate WDRB.
In Race 8, Freezing Point pulled up suddenly and “was loaded into an equine ambulance under his own power,” Al Ruggles, the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ on-call veterinarian, told the NBC broadcast. The broadcast later said the horse was in a protective splint after suffering an injury to his front ankle before eventually being euthanized.
“Chloe’s Dream in Race 2 and Freezing Point in Race 8 sustained racing injuries from which they could not recover on Saturday, and for humane reasons, both were euthanized,” Darren Rogers, senior director of communications and media services for Churchill Downs, said in a statement to CNN. “The horses will be transported to the University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostics Lab for complete necropsies.”
Saturday’s deaths both happened just hours before the main competition, scheduled for just before 7 pm ET on Saturday.
On Friday, racehorse trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. was suspended indefinitely by Churchill Downs following the “highly unusual” deaths of two of his horses, Parents Pride and Chasing Artie.
Three other horses – not trained by Joseph – also died in recent days. According to Churchill Downs, Wild on Ice, a Derby contender, was hurt while training on Thursday and Take Charge Briana was injured in a race on Tuesday. Both were “euthanized for humane reasons.”
On April 29, 3-year-old gelding Code of Kings died after flipping and breaking his neck in Churchill’s temporary paddock before a race, according to Daily Racing Form.

Dr. Jill is in the cheap seats.
Jill Biden on Friday arrived in London for King Charles’ coronation while her feeble husband stayed behind.
Joe Biden skipping King Charles III’s coronation – and choosing to send his trashy wife in his absence – broke a century of precedent a historian told The New York Post.
Hunter Biden’s daughter, Finnegan, joined Dr. Jill in London on taxpayer dime.
Jill was shoved to the back next to Ukraine.
Some people pointed out the seating was alphabetical, but it is still embarrassing that Jill was all the way in the back.

Points
The U.S. could fail to meet its debt obligations sooner than expected, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned in a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Yellen said a drop in tax receipts meant the U.S. could hit its debt ceiling as soon as June 1, earlier than Wall Street and Washington had estimated.
In light of the new, earlier estimate, President Joe Biden invited the “big four” congressional leaders to a May 9 meeting at the White House to discuss the debt limit.

Growth in the U.S. slowed considerably during the first three months of the year as interest rate increases and inflation took hold of an economy largely expected to decelerate even further ahead.
Gross domestic product, a measure of all goods and services produced for the period, rose at a 1.1% annualized pace in the first quarter, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting growth of 2%.
The growth rate followed a fourth quarter in which GDP rose 2.6%.

Sysco Unveils First Electric Vehicle Hub, Advancing Its Industry Leading Climate Change Commitment
April 24 2023 - 08:00AM
Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY), the world’s largest food distributor, unveiled its vision for the Riverside Electric Vehicle Hub, which will transform the company’s distribution center into the focal point of its electrified fleet. One of the first electric vehicle hubs of its kind in the world, the Riverside project is a foundational step toward Sysco’s goal to reduce its direct emissions by 27.5% and add 2,800 electric trucks to its U.S. fleet by 2030.
“This year’s theme for Earth Day is ‘invest in our planet’ and Sysco is doing just that. Our commitment is coming to life in Riverside as we break new ground on one of the first facilities of its kind in the world,” said Neil Russell, Sysco’s Chief Administrative Officer. “Change of this magnitude requires deep collaboration and I want to thank our government and community partners who are helping bring our vision to life.”
Currently, Sysco operates eleven Freightliner battery electric eCascadia tractors at its Riverside facility and expects to deploy 20 total by summer 2023. Once completed, the facility’s currently planned EV infrastructure will include:
40 dual port DC fast-charging stations in support of
40 Electric, Class-8 vehicles, and
40 electric refrigerated trailers.
To accommodate the energy demands of this growing fleet, the Riverside site will also feature 4 MWh of battery storage and will increase its solar power generation by an additional 1.5 MW.
“We are excited to showcase Sysco’s work to build our first Electric Vehicle Hub at our Riverside, CA site,” said Marie Robinson, Sysco’s Chief Supply Chain Officer. “This is a massive collaborative effort that has required years of planning. We’re grateful to our many partners on this journey for their vision, innovation and leadership in bringing the transportation and infrastructure technology to market to support this project.”
Sysco announced in May 2021 its intent to deploy nearly 800 battery electric Freightliner eCascadia Class 8 tractors by 2026.
“Houston Freightliner is proud to be a critical supplier to Sysco of next generation fully electric commercial vehicles and a partner in the foodservice industry leader’s complete strategy for full integration of electric vehicles into their fleet,” said Rick Stewart, President & Dealer Principal of Houston Freightliner.
ConMet and ConMet eMobility are enabling the development of zero-emission commercial vehicles, providing innovative technology for the electrification of refrigerated trailers required for Sysco to deliver food safely and efficiently.
“The commitment shown by Sysco with this facility is a prelude to a more sustainable future for foodservice delivery. We’re honored to have the ConMet eHub™ in-wheel motor system on Sysco trailers. By generating electrical energy to power electric TRUs, trailer temperatures are sustained for food safety purposes, whilst providing large diesel savings to the fleet and significant emission reductions for the local community,” said Marc Trahand, VP and General Manager of ConMet’s eMobility division.
InCharge Energy and ABB E-mobility are supplying and preparing to activate 40 Terra 124 DC fast chargers. Already tested for vehicle interoperability and reliability, these stations will facilitate quick and timely charging of all vehicles daily.
“As the leading fleet electrification provider, InCharge Energy and ABB E-mobility are thrilled to play such an important role in Sysco’s transition to electric transportation,” said Terry O’Day, COO and Co-Founder of InCharge Energy. “Sysco’s transportation electrification program will have a sizable impact on carbon emissions. This project sets the stage for the increasing shift to electric mobility in California, especially given the EPA’s recent decision to allow California to accelerate its transition from diesel to electric trucks. We look forward to seeing what cleaner transportation will do for the beautiful Riverside community and beyond.”
The Riverside EV hub project is also supported through partnership with:
Black & Veatch - Engineer of record and system integrator providing comprehensive design, engineering, permitting, procurement, and construction management.
Carrier Transicold North America - Supporting Sysco’s EV program with its innovative Vector eCool™ refrigerated trailer system which sustainably creates its own power using leading-edge energy recovery and storage from ConMet to run the uniquely all-electric trailer refrigeration unit.

Dan Bongino Parts Ways with Fox News
https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2023/04/20/dan-bongino-parts-ways-with-fox-news/
Fox News and Dan Bongino have reportedly parted ways, ending his Saturday night show, Unfiltered with Dan Bongino.
In a statement on his podcast Thursday, Bongino assured fans that he had an amicable departure from Fox News and that the two parties just could not come to an agreement on his contract’s extension.
“Folks, regretfully, last week was my last show on Fox News on the Fox News Channel,” Bongino said. “It’s tough. It’s tough to say that.”
“You know, I’ve been there doing hits and working there for ten years…so the show ending was tough. And I want you to know it’s not some big conspiracy. I promise you. There’s no acrimony. This wasn’t some WWE brawl that happened. We just couldn’t come to terms on an extension,” he added.
Bongino said that Fox News gave him a chance to do a final episode, but he declined the offer.
“It’s a sad day,” Bongino said. “The most important events in my life I learned about on Fox News.”
Bongino emphasized that the breakdown had nothing to do with his reputation or anything else.
“We were the number one show 90% of the time,” Bongino said. “We had a great team. You’re going to read a thousand left wing articles about some nonsense, and I’m guaranteeing you on my reputation, it is all made up. It’s a simple contract thing, and that’s it. It is no more complicated than that.”
Bongino’s Fox Nation show, Canceled in the USA, will also be ending. In a statement, Fox News said that it appreciated Bongino’s service to the network and that they wished him well with future endeavors.
“We thank Dan for his contributions and wish him success in his future endeavors,” Fox News said.
According to Forbes, Bongino’s show was “a ratings success for Fox News, with last Saturday’s episode of Unfiltered—the final episode—drawing 1.179 million viewers.”
“It ranked as the highest-rated show of the day Saturday,” noted Forbes. “For the first quarter of 2023, Unfiltered was the top show in prime time on Saturdays with 1.3 million viewers and 134,000 viewers in the key demographic of viewers 25-54, the group most valued by advertisers.”
