Suncor getting out of wind and solar; will shift focus to hydrogen and renewable fuel

Important UN Climate Report Just Released!
https://edition.cnn.com/2022/04/04/world/un-ipcc-climate-report-mitigation-fossil-fuels/index.html
...But the report does leave room for continued fossil fuel use that utilizes carbon capture and storage — or CCS — a process in which the emissions from coal, oil and gas are captured and stored. The report's authors say this is only viable if the vast majority of emissions are captured.

Moving the market today ????
Good points about posters Hog, but just to clarify my post: By referreing to 'this dude' I did not mean the poster of the original message, but rather the billionaire dude being interviewed on the video. That guy was advocating for green hydrogen and misrepresenting Manchin's views (because Manchin supports carbon capture), while covering for China's solar industry.
This dude sounds like a shill for Chinese solar panels.
Hydrogen Industry Gets New Opportunity to Comment on FERC Pipeline Approval Policy
https://www.jdsupra.com/legalnews/hydrogen-industry-gets-new-opportunity-7550878/
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has reopened the comment period for its natural gas infrastructure policy statements, giving the hydrogen industry a chance to champion policies that could promote hydrogen infrastructure.
TAKEAWAYS
Agency backs off immediate implementation of rules on new natural gas pipeline projects.
Hydrogen industry now has a second chance to be heard on regulatory regime that will have an impact on its development.
Comments to be accepted through April 25; Pillsbury stands ready to facilitate submission process.
Your post makes me think of someone standing on a beach and discussing the weather while a tsunami is fast approaching. There is a humongous change in worldwide energy use which is fast approaching, and its name is Hydrogen. If you don't believe me, then ask Biden or Ursula in Europe.
You know this is true because you read this message board, yet you are stuck on a technical analysis of FCEL, as if it were just any stock. What you should realize is that FCEL is actually surfing high on that tsunami, and it is fast approaching this summer!
Hydrogen Society Gaining Momentum
Russia’s invasion has made energy security a hot topic. The U.S. thinks hydrogen could be the answer

Great video WTM! Listening to Manchin is music to my ears.
The good news is that even after November, if Rs gain control, the new chairman of the Energy committee will likely be Barrasso from Wyoming, and he thinks exactly like Manchin thinks.
There are only of handful of extremists on either side who try to demonize Hydrogen/CCS.
Tick Tock!

Exxon/FCEL relationship will rock
Tick Tock

You could be right. We'll know soon enough. I'm more concerned with the policy green lights than the timing of the Exxon contract. I think with the right policies here and in Europe, the Exxon contract will be a gold mine.
The great news is that all of Europe and Biden admin seem to be on the same page regarding these things:
1) Relying on foreign energy sources is bad (that includes China/solar/wind)
2) NatGas is here to stay but must be made as clean as possible (CCS)
3) Hydrogen is the future and infrastructure must be built with hydrogen in mind (Keystone and other pipelines?)
I expect another 3-month or 6-month extension with Exxon contract.
The same reason as last time .... the policy decisions that will drive the terms of the contract are on ice still. The news reports are that Manchin and new BBB is targeted for somewhere in July/August.

Congress set to keep focus on Ukraine, energy prices

I can imagine Manchin running for President in 2024 and having Hydrogen/CCS as one of his main agenda items. Not sure if he would run as D, R or I.
Thanks Max for posting because I was not able to open the link and read. It seems that the richest guy in the world would like me to register and pay to read his web site, so that the only part I could read was "Democracy Dies in Darkness".
I wonder too how it's going to play out.
IMO, there is a renewed acceptance that fossil fuels are necessary, that foreign sources of power (including solar) are a bad idea, and yet we need a viable long term climate/pollution plan.
The Russia sanctions may mean that there will be a separate bill involving oil/gas development - maybe involving CCS. Who knows? It's just hard to imagine that nothing will be done on the climate issue and that will be the D game plan for the November elections.
I agree Max with all you said.
However, I would add that the US and global anticipation of policy/tax decisions have been critically important since November 2020.
The share prices rise when it looks like tax credits and H2 love is likely, and the share price falls when they seem unlikely. That is why I focus a lot on Manchin and policy decisions worldwide.
The great news for FCEL is that these policy decisions are more likely than ever before, albeit sadly partially due to the Ukraine/Russia travesty.
At Global Energy Conference, Oil and Gas Industry Leaders Argue For Fossil Fuels’ Future in the Energy Transition

FYES!
Whaaaa...?
Earning always miss by $0.01 so that's what I expect. If analysts wanted to be accurate, they would lower their forecast by one penny and then the earnings would meet - but that is not the game they want to play.
The earnings are not important. The future depends on CCS/Hydrogen policy. It seems that the latest words of 'Clean Energy' (vs. 'Green Energy) in Washington are very encouraging! 'Clean' means CCS for those paying attention!
Well, we just see things differently in this regard.
I see that the CCS world is very much waiting for policy/tax decisions. Also, I have read many quotes from oil executives which say this very explicitly.
Why would any company move forward on CCS without subsidies? It is an added expense to capture CO2. No company is going to do that without compensation. Makes no sense.

Granholm claims to love Hydrogen and CCS..... tick tock!
Department of Energy officials including Secretary Jennifer Granholm will meet with representatives from Exxon Mobil Corp., Shell Plc and some shale producers on the sidelines of the CERAWeek by S&P Global conference in Houston, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named because the meetings are private.
I don't care about Earnings Report.
Not important to the future of FCEL. Much, much, much more important are policy decisions in US and internationally regarding CCS and Hydrogen.
That's a good point - Exxon has operations internationally, so maybe the first FCEL CCS projects will be outside of the US. So, maybe they will have separate agreements for each country. That being said, it's my understanding that nobody has finalized (or even started in some cases) their 'Climate Strategy' and associated subsidies/credits. I believe Canada and Europe are working through the decisions but maybe some countries have finalized.
Great post Hog.
Regarding ExxonMobil contractual terms, it seems likely to me that there will be another extension of 3 months or maybe 6 months. Terms are heavily dependent on CCS policy/laws and especially tax credits. Hopefully these have renewed urgency but unlikely finalized by April 30th.
Whichever party champions Hydrogen wins election
Country wants real solutions and end of BS politics as usual. Neither party will ever say 'H', choosing instead to be extreme on their side. First party to champion Hydrogen as long term solution wins.
Rumor: Ticker symbol for FCEL will change to FYES
Thanks WTM -
My question was referring to the Manchin video on "Meet The Press" this morning, which apparently nobody has seen - but I recommend watching!
Good points about the solar panels - except for the part that they don't pollute. I see them as being very polluting in many ways. Their production requires a lot of mining and toxic manufacturing, their use is a blight upon the land, and then after their use, they become toxic landfills forever. In addition, much pollution is incurred from the necessary copper wires which are required for the associated transmission lines. So, I see them as highly polluting. Even Michael Moore agrees in his last video - which is why nobody ever hears about Michael Moore anymore.
