OT: OLED..."On Tuesday, news broke that Apple has gone ahead and signed a licensing deal with Samsung to order OLED displays for its iPhones. While the rumor doesn't extend to whether Apple will be putting OLED displays in all models of the iPhone 8 or just one, investors are taking the bait either way. Yesterday, Apple stock hit a new all-time intraday high of $135.09 -- and it's pulling Universal Display stock up alongside it."
"It's well-known that Universal Display is a supplier of OLED technology and OLED materials to Samsung -- which we now know will in turn supply OLED screens to Apple. So naturally, Universal Display shares shot 3.6% higher in Tuesday trading, and were up a further 4% on Wednesday morning. Helping to keep the momentum train moving was a new initiation of coverage on the stock from Susquehanna. As reported on StreetInsider.com around about midnight last night, Susquehanna has initiated coverage of Universal Display stock with a "positive" rating and a big, round price target of $100."

Where did you get your complete statement/definition of float?
Here is another, "The term "float" refers to the regular shares that a company has issued to the public that are available for investors to trade. This figure is derived by taking a company's outstanding shares and subtracting from it any restricted stock. (Restricted stock is stock that is under some sort of sales restriction: for example, stock that is held by insiders and cannot be traded because they are in a lock-up period following an initial public offering.)"

Thanks, but this discussion started with Art saying the share float was low. I gave him a cite indicating the float is over 275 million shares and wondered why he indicated "the float is small".
Seems to be a simple question and the replies are, well...... interesting to say the least.
What figure do you have as the number of shares in the float? What figure do you have as the shares outstanding...the total number of shares issued by the company? I provided a link for your review in an earlier post.
No, shares in the float is what I wrote. The linked site shows outstanding shares substantially higher. You might already know that but just wondering what you could cite as outstanding share count and float share count. Thanks in advance.
".....because the float is small.".
The figure I find is 275.15 million shares in the float. You think that's small? What number do you have as the float?

I bought it at $18 and sold around $35 ...todays close $113.74. Yes, always could have bought back in, but it languished for a very long time in the teens. When I sold in the $30's I thought that was the top!
When NVDA took off it never looked back. I suspect your recent buy will do just fine for you.
OT: I sold Nvidia way too soon, too. That one may still run awhile due to its automotive technology solutions. Still in IDCC, but with fewer shares than years ago. IDCC's run to $100 has been fun.

Earnings call transcript at SeekingAlpha site
http://seekingalpha.com/article/4044671-sierra-wireless-swir-ceo-jason-cohenour-q4-2016-results-earnings-call-transcript
".......and good afternoon, everyone. I’ll start with the summary of our fourth quarter 2016 results. Overall, Q4 financial results were above our expectations. Consolidated revenue was $163 million, up 12.5% on a year-over-year basis. Solid revenue combined with improved gross margin and good cost management led to profitability results that exceeded our expectations with adjusted EBITDA of $15.5 million and non-GAAP EPS of $0.27.
During the quarter, we also continued to see good new product introduction velocity, launching three new gateway products and entering LPWA module trials with key OEMs and operators. New customer program acquisition activity was also quite strong in the quarter in each of our BUs.
You also may have noticed that we announce today that VW, the world's largest carmaker, has selected Sierra Wireless to provide 4G embedded solutions to connect Volkswagen cars to its Car-Net service. I will elaborate a little bit more on this important new customer in the OEM solutions section of the presentation.
And finally, we've been making a good progress on the integration of GenX and Blue Creation, the two companies we acquired in the second half of 2016. We are excited to have both teams fully onboard contributing in a positive way and strengthening our strategic position in key segment and technology areas of the IoT ecosystem......."

Q4 (and fiscal 2016) earnings release on Feb 22.
This from an IBD article in December....what to watch for:
"For Q4, the consensus on revenue is $70.9 million, which would be an increase of 79% from the year-earlier quarter. The consensus on EPS minus items is 14 cents, up 133%."

No, not a shareholder but I member-marked BigE some time ago; not sure how I ran across his posting at the time. I find he posts more factual information, and does not pump qtmm. I think all of you here want the company to succeed.
For me, Art's long post did not have much meat on the bone....predictable reasons, imo.
In your former position in marketing at QTMM for several years, I assume you worked closely with executive management. To what do you attribute the absence of quantum dot sales to date, and the departure of the board?
D. Johnson this week. Thanks!
"For perspective, Sierra Wireless' latest guidance, provided three months ago, calls for fourth-quarter revenue in the range of $157 million to $166 million, the midpoint of which represents 11.5% year-over-year growth. On the bottom line, Sierra Wireless told investors to expect adjusted earnings per share of $0.13 to $0.19.
By comparison -- and though we don't usually pay close attention to Wall Street's quarterly demands -- analysts are generally on board with that guidance, with consensus estimates predicting fourth-quarter revenue of $161.1 million and adjusted earnings of $0.16 per share."

So here is an interesting off topic, I think. The founder of bodybuilding.com left the company last year. His new venture bears watching. It's virtual reality workouts.
"Ryan DeLuca said he misses the company he founded as a teenager, Bodybuilding.com, and the people who helped him build the nutritional supplement distributor into a half-billion dollar industry leader.
DeLuca, 38, resigned in October from the company, owned by Colorado’s Liberty Interactive, and said he would travel extensively. Less than six months later, he pieced together a team for a new business: a virtual-reality gym."

Scripps Encinitas Doctors First in West to Perform Spine Surgery with New Advanced Robotic Technology
ENCINITAS, CA–(Marketwired – January 12, 2017) – Doctors at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas have become the first west of the Rocky Mountains to perform spinal fusion surgery using a new sophisticated robotic-guided technology that brings a new level of accuracy to these delicate operations.
On Jan. 10, Scripps orthopedic surgeons Neville Alleyne, M.D., and Payam Moazzaz, M.D., performed lumbar spinal fusion surgery on a patient using the Mazor X surgical guidance system, which was commercially launched in October. In the coming weeks, doctors expect to use the Mazor X to perform cervical and thoracic spinal fusions.
In recent years, minimally invasive back surgery has been introduced as an alternative to the traditional, invasive open surgery. Robotic-assisted technology is used in only about one in 20 spine procedures today, but adoption could grow rapidly. According to a recent report in the trade publication Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry, surgeons expect the rate of robotic-guided spine surgeries to double during the next year, and a decade from now more than one in four spine surgeries could be performed using robotic surgical guidance systems.
