larange...I totally agree it is getting sickening seeing this continued abuse....what can we do about it....I for one have become very frustrated over the years of encryption and leading words that rarely come to fruition. Its time to quit reading between the lines with these guys, give us some concrete info and substance, not something to keep us dangling along.
I thought a change in accounting practice was going to hurt us in 4th qtr but bring Q1 05 up significantly? I thought that came out about 2 months ago....
OT: WHat happened to mschere....normally we would have heard from him numerous times by this time today.....?
ellismd....I can't believe it (because I have always tried to take their side) but I completely agree...the bottom line is there has been virtually no advancement, in my eyes, other than cash. I have a fair salary but much of my income is tied to bonuses awarded when my numbers are above and beyond what was expected...why these guys aren't tied to benchmarks and performance is beyond me. I am tired of them dipping into the kitty just to be stuck in the mud year after year with little to offer their sharekholders.....I'll be voting hard come the ASM unless they finally finsih something off with a positive... seems everything is done half way with these guys..
Unfortunatley I think that will be the trend today unless they can spin in the c.c........I certainly don't need anymore "buying opportunities" I've had too many in the last 7 years!.....
whats this.....
"non cash book tax expense of 3.3 myn lowered earnings"....does that compute to about a nickel a share? If so things would have been pretty good without that?
I don't get that......also breakeven? I guess I was looking for .02 to the good side.....interesting that more shares are being authorized for repurchase, must still think it is a good value, unless they are just trying to push the price to sell some of their own....quit it, no negativity here...May is the key..
spree...long story short...IMO...Nok did not fair well in arbitration hearing. They are taking any/all legal actions possible to pressure IDCC into settlement of the least $$$ amount possible. IDCC is sitting tight knowing this is a real turning point in the business. I think it will come down very close to the May 31 deadline and they will settle 2/2.5G and come out with 3G agreement. In the meantime the bully will continue to put as much pressure on IDCC to lessen their payment.
spree...I'm not Jim but I want to chime in...these have NEVER been correct when it comes to IDCC...fly on the wall and jag is a bunch of b.s. when it comes to IDCC. As I have said in the past I think most of us here have made our bets and are waiting to see what the dealer has. If you want to take a flyer on something take your best guess as to what all the legal back and forths might tell you, not what these goofball rumor mills have throw out there. JMO
test test test...is the board up today? No posts since 3 a.m.
whatever....I get tired of people preaching it on a DAY TO DAY basis.....
all I can say is beta-schmeta....doesn't really apply......people need to get off that boat....
how can that be I thought we had so much carry over from acct change that we would be at the .02 maybe .03....
Art...this is one he is correct on...do you really think that if we have a negative outcome of arbitration we will hold 17...not a chance...so we might say "well maybe a sell off and then move back up" I doubt it, there is a LOT hinging on this outcome, lets be honest...I have made my bets...all my shares are long and if we get shot down I join Mickey!!!! Its a bet I am willing to make
by this point in time we have cussed, dicussed, debated, berrated........all that can be done is wait...most bets have been placed....although some are still lobbying for cheaper shares....you know who you are
OT: OT: DD, for the first time in my years on this board I actually disagree with you. I HATED last years fiasco but I thought the halftime this year was the most plain Jane, vanilla, and boring show the Supeer Bowl has produced in a longtime. JMO. Now back to IDCC..
how much fun would it be to watch em' scramble if their was a VERY postitive announcement in the last hour of trading.....like you said next week will be more interesting
SKeptic...why do you bother asking if you don't want an opinion....I don't think $50 is out of the possiblity if everything goes our way this year.....I would be happy with that...it really is impossible to guess as the number could be of great variance from Nokia
data...looking at all sides that very thought continues to creep into my thought process.....does ERICY/SE have 3G deal with IDCC yet? NO... My guess is if ERICY thinks they may benefit going forward on 3G rate they may "assist" where needed. I would like to say ERICY/IDCC are buds now that we swept the drawn out suit away a year ago but that is not how big biz works....I think the only certainty that we have learned in the last few days is that there still is a lot of uncertainty!!!
dmiller...the one and only post I have ever agreed with you on......raymond its not about hate or bashing its about two (maybe 10 or 20!!) sides to this coin....this isn't about choosing sides its about working through ALL info and opinions and then making your own decisions...I love your loyalty to IDCC but man people SHOULD open their eyes to some things, not all is perfect in K of P and not everything that goes wrong is their fault either......
Observation and probably last post of the day for me....I am finally getting to the point where I just don't think its bad luck with IDCC and all of their litigious happenings. It seems in the 7 years that I have been in this investment NOTHING ever comes natural (not fair to use the word easy)without a major undertaking or fight. Do we not have rock solid contracts? Do we not have topnotch negotiators or sales people that can advance relationships to the point we don't have to fight everything out in court? Do we, as shareholders deserve to have more insight into what is going on in the company? As I said earlier I now own more shares than ever and have placed my bets but these are some questions that are really starting to enter my mind. I have always said the boys in K of P sure a heck of a lot more about running the biz than I but I think it is high time we get some honest answers and possibly look at some new blood at the upper level if we see NOK drag out another year. I am not saying they are POOR leaders I am saying I wonder if maybe they have taken us as far as they can with their particular talents.
mschere...I like the optimism but do we know FOR SURE that the 3 arbitration panelists are underway? Its easy to take that for granted....I assume they are and that is why NOK fired this shot but we REALLY don't know that for certain, do we?
sjratty...mschere is always quite positive but based on the vast array of opinions on this development how can any of us say, FOR SURE, that this is a positive or a negative at this point? I just wish K of P would stand up and give us some info...not everything has to be a total secret...today is a good day to "align ourselves with our shareholders"
Bill...good post, might get us all to take a deep breath and collect ourselves. Seems as logical as any of the other guesses around right now....for better or for worse I got back all my shares I sold back in late Nov. plus a few more within the last half hour. I now own, outright, more shares than I ever have. I have placed my bets.
pcohemunyet....I will say this and I said it the other day, history says IDCC execs know when to sell some shares. AMS took it as an indication to sell some and then felt comfortable getting back in. I too now question who knew what, when, in regards to this filing. This could get messy. I never bought back my shares I sold at 21, 7 weeks ago, I bet I can find a spot to grab some today....
Data, thanks for your point of view on this.....expert opinions are always appreciated, by me anyway...balance my friends, balance. We should all look at both opinions offered and then make your own decisions don't just jump up and down because you like the other viewpoint better. Let the balance be offered by someone who is very well informed and then decide for yourself which your more inclined to make your investment decision on.
the doggone market didn't cooperate with our little news today....we should have a better uptick on this tidbit...
rayfer...unfortuantley there is a very negative and uneasy feeling on the board lately. It is truly giving off a very strange vibe right now and I for one hope we have a good reason to do an about face any day now....best cure for this would be an announcement out of the blue that settled it for the positive...one of these days.....I hope
dd.....you and I are of the same belief if we have a flat out shredding by NOK in arbitration. Many here think there is a 0% change of that happening but it is POSSIBLE. Many have asked why we aren't lining up new 3G contracts on a weekly basis, we all point to NOK, even are supposed new "buddies", per Howard, and ERICY wouldn't sign on 18 motnhs ago. I have eplaced my bets that we will come out of the arbitration with a "win" whatever size it might be. I am more interested in getting it settled to the point that we can go forward with others and NOK on 3G contracts and rates. As long as I have been here, I have waited 2 years longer than I planned, I have always said I would be one of the 10 still holding (As mschere says)but after meeting with my financial planner I have decided if IDCC does not come out with a positive resolution to this latest hinderance I will sell and move on. I have tied up way too much money for the last 7 years and have to pull the plug sometime. My hope is I still that I hold my shares 10 yrs from now but for me personally, the NOK situation will be the determining factor.
dan...good point, I could never go back to dialup but I know some folks still use it. By the way thanks for all you do with providing indepth, timely articles to this forum.....
I don't see that that picture is anymore distracting than a tornado or a picture of Micheal Douglas....I don't see a problem with any but I guess Jim's the boss..
wow...just checked my ticker and can't belive we are down a buck today...I hope this is residual from LAST f-4's and not another bomb heading our way.....
John Samuel...thanks for the note....as USUAL people are jumping up and down about insider sales, HOWEVER, as usual this will probably be perceived as a negative and we will prossibly go down today. It doesn't matter to me, yep I might be able to buy back those couple thousand trading shares I sold a month ago at 21 (with hopes of getting them back at 17)but my core holdings aren't going anywhere..right worng or otherwise we have all seen this happen many times before...learn from it...
mschere...I will be one of the other nine....
Thoughts? By any that care to chime in. Suppose that we are in the midst of the pre arbitration runup, does it stop when we get to mid Jan? If there are no delays and things start moving through the arbitration process in Mid Jan, knowing it could take a few months, does the runup continue or will all the bets be placed by then? Secondly will we get updates on how things are going during the process? Lastly will there be legal filings similiar to ERICY via pacer along the way that might shed some light? Thanks... Happy Holidays to All...I think"our year" is finally here after saying that for so many years..
dd....good point, I am glad you brought it up. I saw that in reading it and decided not bring it up because my feeling is something is brewing that they are fairly sure is going to bring a heavier tax liability quite soon. Probably best I don't speculate or the naysayers will think we are trying hard to manufacture or slant news. That said I have a feeling that 6 months from now things are going to be moving very very positive for us longs....
Danny so great to hear you chiming in...glad to know you are still out there watching the IDCC action....you have a very positive tone to your verbage......that makes me feel good...best to you and your family.....r u in the Sunshine state these days? Kind of cold up north...
OT...being its is so slow...Lucky, has there ever been a lockout, strike, or "non season" in sports that has been less "cared about". Hockey is in trouble, too few people care. Then theres the NBA. The brawls, bums, Kobies, and thugs may be even too much for Lebron's dynamite personality and talent to overcome. Good thing we all have the sport of IDCC to cheer for...or in the shorts case to root against. Happy Holidays to all...wishing everyone a healthy and prosperous 2005!
OT: sorry Jimlur...someone here is the expert on sat radio (XM& sirius) can you e-mail me at falconftr@yahoo.com....thanks
keep rockin IDCC!!!!!!!!!
regarding Nok, as a trigger...this may be a very basic question to many but either forgotten or not known by me. Has it ever been clarified that Sony/SE was named as the trigger in the NOK contract ALONE, as in only them? If not, and I would hope not, is there heavy focus on getting another manufacturer to meet the triggering mechanisms. If indeed they were able to get another major signed and a rate defined would the NOK contract kick in, and we could forget about the arbitration? I understand that at this time most, maybe all, other major manufacturers may be willing to wait on the side line and infringe with hope NOK avoids payment. Which brings up another question. If S/SE was the only triggering company named (foolish in my book), what would keep all other companies from colluding against signing and just keep going forth infringing? Then it would seem IDCC would have no choice but to go after everyone of them via litigation. I know I have rambled I hope one of you can see my point and provide a logical answer.
linedrivehitter.......that is sort of what I was thinking after all these years. My gut tells me that is what will happen this time around also. Seems like everytime we have turned around there were delays or new issues that held things up. I am sort of hoping that is finally in our past. I was hoping someone could give me a technical reason other than the good old "they need more time to hammer out a settlement".
