rtd have a great easter
jim but he did say that he was going to stop posting to allow management time to work on the issues and not be distracted, so to me that is implying that management asked him to stop
besides who else would loop listen to
gbr are u once eom
loop, i don't mean to argue but in one of your posts u specifically stated that management silenced u, now if you are saying different or if you mistyped that is fine, but then who tried to silence you, and u have still not offered up the theory as to why they did
i still think this whole situation is fishy, not saying that you are being dishonest, i mean i think this whole silencing business means news is coming, and when i have asked the board for theories as to why idcc or somebody big would silence u, very few have answered
and have u addressed why u have returned, have the people who told u not to post given you their blessings
has some inside information passed and some people here are in the loop and have gotten close to being caught or revealed on this board
now we have mickeybritt stating a rumor about a buyout, now he also said there was a rumor from a source about settlement, just about the time a published rumor came about, now he was wrong on the amount but a settlement did happen
mickey also is calling for nok to be settled shortly as he does not think the amount of days they have left is long
so is a buyout or nok news coming
did somebody mess up by trying to silence loop, does some of his friends on this board know more then they are letting on
could the Houston group who meet at Bonnie's be a part of some idcc cabal of investors who possess the ultimate knowledge
there are also other signs, the reappearance of once, gejim turning positive again
the puzzle on this board is starting to come together
one other thing about the Houston group, remember Houston is the home of Enron, one wonders about these so called innocent meetings at Bonnie's, remember Rtd invited somebody, I forget who, and said that at the May meeting they would be very happy and that idcc might be on another runup
this mystery only gets deeper, i am starting to think that IDCC will clear this up very shortly
futures up
GBR ARE U ONCE, curious posts from u
loophole welcome back, if possible can u tell us why u are posting again, did idcc say it was ok, i am not being sarcastic, i believe what you said, i think it has implications, i think it might show that news is coming, any theories as to why management tried to silence u
thanks
rtd unless i am mistaken, i could have sworn reading some posts of his in the last few days, i believe u that he is a top flight guy, just trying to figure out why idcc told him to stop posting, and if he is posting again, why?, did they tell him he could post again
imo something big is brewing over there at idcc and soon we will go on another legendary run
good luck
then why is loop still posting
desert dweller regarding the pm, thanks and good luck, keep me informed
Stock pickers post profits in a tough climate
Equities seem to be holding their own during first quarter of 2003
BY JIM PARKER
Of The Post and Courier Staff
Don't mistake the current investment climate for a bull market, but stocks have held their own through the first three months of 2003, which is at least a modest improvement from the two previous years.
In fact, a few of the brokers in The Post and Courier's annual stock picking contest have posted profits since January, and as a group they are outperforming the Standard and Poor's 500 and Dow Jones industrial average.
With the war in Iraq breaking out last month, the Dow is down 4.2 percent in the first quarter, and the S&P is off 3.6 percent.
Don Tomlin and Adrienne Bolus of Southport Capital asset managers in Charleston are keeping track of the trades and results.
Through the end of March, Sam Lisi of Edward Jones is leading the crew of seven brokers with a 13 percent gain.
The selectors invested an imaginary $50,000 in five stocks to begin the year and are allowed to buy and sell five times a quarter.
Lisi's portfolio is valued at $56,680.
He surged to the early lead primarily due to one stock, Corning Inc., which makes glass for fiber optics and has a plant in Goose Creek.
The shares rose from $3.38 to $5.84, or a 73 percent gain. Meanwhile, Texas Instruments rose 7 percent.
Also thriving on the strength of one stock is Mark French, a broker with Scott & Stringfellow.
French's picks have increased 10 percent to $55,820. His choice of Interdigital Communications has fared best, rising 52 percent.
Sierra Health Services, meanwhile, is up 5 percent.
Last year's winner, Frank Lachicotte of Raymond James Financial, is in third spot. His portfolio is up 6 percent at $53,111. Top picks include Vignette Corp., up 22 percent; and Centex, with a 6 percent gain.
Lachicotte made one trade, selling Cracker Barrel Old Country Store at a loss and buying eResearch Technology Inc., a Philadelphia-based high-tech service company that's in the drug and medical business.
Three modest gainers head Richard Kasprak's portfolio, which rose less than 1 percent to $50,086. Kasprak, of HD Vest, picked El Paso Energy, up 9 percent; San Juan Basin trust, up 5 percent and Cedar Fair, up 4 percent.
E.D. Brailsford III of Brailsford & Co. has been the most active trader. His picks are at $47,836, down 4 percent.
He sold Alliant Techsystems, Dell Computer and Forest Laboratories, all at losses. His best choice has been eBay, which is up 28 percent since the beginning of the year.
"Overall, it's a bear market," Brailsford said. "You have strong rallies that are short and fast. The market is volatile. Stock selection is key," he said.
Placing sixth is Johbe King of UBS/PaineWebber, whose stocks have been consistent but all showed modest losses. His portfolio has declined 7 percent to $46,706.
King's best selections are Apple Computer, down 3 percent; and Citigroup, off 4 percent.
Donald Allen of Hampton Capital Management has seen an 8 percent drop in shares to $45,898. He has one stock showing a profit -- Telecom Corp. of New Zealand, which is up about 1 percent.
Allen sold Biosite Inc. and Kroll Inc. at mild losses. He bought drug store retailer CVS Corp. and Cendant travel and real estate company.
Thus far, Kasprak leads in dividend earnings at $711, followed closely by King at $464.
Lachicotte has $169 and French $122. Lisi has $106 and Allen $17. Brailsford has $13.
mickey, not how high it would go, i thought u were talking about qcom buying idcc, i might have mistaken what u said, i meant if they bought out idcc what would each shareholder get per share, thanks
mickey what price of the shares would we get if that happened, what is your best guess
h42,Loop specifically said it was management if u go back and look at his post, and everyone has been silent on theories as to why they did this,
by the way i called war over by second week of april
GO ISLANDERS
rtd, but do u have a theory on why loop was silenced, thanks
jim, but still nobody has given their opinion on why idcc silenced loop, any theories
jim i hear ya, just trying to time the next news
desert, very wise, i think i am going to hold out a little longer maybe around the 20th and then buy cheap may options, but i like that gamble, if u had done the same thing a month ago, u would have made a killing, in the future i would like to hear your options buys, if u don't mind, which ones did u buy, thanks
goblue very true eom
revlis, when is the 1st quarter scheduled to be released
mickey i hope this is true, if idcc did have those companies, could they not mention it in the CC, like they have regarding nok being tied to the settlement
RTD, is your May luncheon a signal that good news will come before the meeting, the silencing of Loop and now your veiled reference to jkj enjoying the may luncheon, and your discussion of another run up, has me believing, for whatever reason, something is in the air
Mickey, I have a theory regarding the insider sales, probably wrong but just throwing it out there, let's say they know that nok and samsung are in the bag, but hey let's not let the stock go over 30 on speculation, let's pump it up with CC then sell at 24, let it drift back down to the teens, the insiders buy more back at depressed levels, then news gets released and they make even more money when it gets to 50 and beyond
because they know before news it probably would not get higher than 30, but instead of buying at 30, sell at 24, buy back in teens then sell at 50 and above, does this make any sense, or is that wishful thinking
centerline, yeah the weather has stunk lately, cold, snowy, and now rainy
by the way i don't think news will take 3 months, could be wishful thinking on my part, but just think that they can't be that far off on the nokia discussions
good luck
mickey, thanks, i do feel that is a low projection, but i have been accused of going too high, especially when i say the stock will reach 1000 in 3 to 5 years, so i will stick with the conservative numbers for now, i just hope we get news soon, otherwise our 18 support level might be cracked
jim, u make a lot of good points, i disagree with a couple of things, but it does not matter, just want idcc to release news soon, before we lose our support at 18
true gejim, however something has been missed if you sold and bought at the wrong times, u are assuming trading means always being right, i tend to look at it like sports gambling, if you can be right 60 percent of the time you are considered a professional
i am sure people have lost money and lost shares by trading, i am sure it is a high percentage of people, the only way we would know is if the people trading announced the trades when they happened, then we could see if trading truly was better than holding
i got an idea, u could tell us where the highs and lows of this stock are, when to sell and when to buy for the next 6 to 9 months, then we can compare and see if trading would have made us more money or enabled us to own more shares
how about it, this way your method can be proven
matt, all very good points by you, however, here is where it might not work
same thing was done at raging bull, a clubboard was formed for idcc, what happened was, everybody stopped using the main board, so that the main board became irrelevant, and nobody could challenge anyone on the clubboard or ask tough questions, because they would be banned, i understand everybody hates once at the idcc board, but to me it makes it more interesting to have all different points of view, as long as it does not get personal
believe me, if there was an idcc clubboard again, i doubt i would be able to post, and as u have seen i rarely get personal, i just am a skeptic to some of these posts
anyway i understand your frustration at all the time wasted, however like you said a lot of time could be saved by people just ignoring the posters they don't like
if u decide on what you are doing, could you send me a message explaining the new rules, if not i am sure i will hear about on the grapevine, thanks
i agree, nice to see, i mean you have to believe that idcc would settle for low dollar amount without having very strong belief that this was getting done to not buy these shares
this is what the bashers and shorts would have us believe, well i don't think any rational person believes that
sjratty, it is very simple, after the settlement, we formed a base around 19, the CC came out and everyone realized the 400 million was coming, the stock kept rising to 24, would have went higher before the 10k, however insider sales slowed us down, then the combination of 10k and huge insider sales made wall street and investors get nervous about the nok and samsung 400 million, otherwise we would have kept climbing to 30 and beyond
so now because of the massive selling and uncertain 10k, the stock will not move until we get nok news, then we get to 40 at minimum and probably higher
alley i can take that long post u wrote and answer it very easily, check my response to sjratty
I can't respond privately, so to the PM i got, you are right, eventually it will come, i hear ya, will keep that in mind for future, good luck
djfanning, well at least i am good for something, good luck to you, seriously i did not mean to start world war III over here, especially when we just kicked saddam's butt, just happy the war is over, again good luck, take care, i think i will take a nap
mickey ok, i am not stopping him from posting, geez it is just my opinion, and i don't think i was attacking him, just highly questioning the credibility, i will try and stay out of this one, u guys figure it out
take care
jimlur sounds like u are attacking me, i love this notion espoused by u and others, that i attack everybody, no that was not an attack just a challenge, secondly, when i post one negative post how does that make all of my posts negative, or junk, or attacking, now if u don't think from the tone of that post that number 1 it was negative, and number 2 it was bogus, then i don't know what to tell u
seems strange that the guy posts yeah i talked to navalier last night, but let me know if you want me to tell you more, other than the fact that he did not seem too in love with idcc
i mean are u really buying it, hey if the guy wants to post it then let him, but i thought we were trying to get away from sources, rumors, and hearsay, and again i think you and others jump down my throat the minute i challenge someone, i try never to get personal and keep the subject to stocks, maybe some others should do the same
where was my big attack, someone point it out to me, just said i doubted his credibility, give me a break, if the guy wants to post it then let him, i am surely not stopping him
dj very creative, i guess that makes you feel better, typically when people are insecure about the intelligence they have,
the need arises to point out a spelling mistake, if it makes you feel better than continue to do it, again another wonderful post
u do make me laugh though
mickey relax, for a second and think about it, this person has 3 posts, now i don't call everyone a liar, that is a lie by u, but forget about all that, does anyone here know this person from raging bull, again this person has 3 posts, and says that navalier was ho hum or whatever on idcc, seems like a basher to me, now that is my opinion, no videos needed, just like i said, anyone can come on here and make that claim, makes no sense to hear it,
now if u said or any of the longs here said it, then that would be a different story
don't know what the definition of junk is, seems whenever someone does not like my posts they say all i post is junk, pretty easy to do on your part, just dismiss all of my posts when u don't like one, i don't care personally though
that is my opinion and if u don't like it then just ignore me
bulldozer are u kidding me, first of all thanks for the compliment, secondly i am aloud to question whether that is a true post, hey i hung out with harry goldberg last night, if u want to suck up to him, just send him a private message, but you are the one being irresponsible
u ask why
i will tell u
because you are letting somebody post something about navalier, that has not one chance of being verified, he should not be allowed to post that, and u should not be encouraging it
it will do more harm than good to allow some clown to post a fictional tale of what navalier said
if anyone here who does not have me on ignore agrees with me then please voice your opinion
but i think what i say makes sense
OT ARAZHIK, thanks check out yahoo board WEL post 275945 for another funny one posted by interdigital99
