OT: Jim, thanks for the PM with tips. I'll have time over the weekend to pick a avatar.
Thanks again Jim. Now if I can just figure out how to cut & paste one to my profile, lol. I may have to have my grandson set it up!
Mickey, I've wondered about this for a long time. Why not pay bonuses (whether or not deserved) via cash instead of stock? Maybe Bill Nasgovitz would ask about this at the next CC.
Thanks Jim. Are there other avatars to pick from?
Sloan, if IIRC in the last CC Merritt said he didn't foresee a dividend anytime soon (or in so many words).
I can't help but believe that if you or Data had posted the article to begin with it would have been welcomed and left up rather than ridiculed and censored.
Maybe, just maybe because you have a history of interjecting politics into stock discussions. Basically we all share a common belief in IDCC and have high hopes for our investment, BUT we all don't share political ideals. For this reason Jimlur and admin restrict content to on topic discussions.
Btw, I really like your avatar. Where did you find it?
Yep, I guess 7600 shares is better than a kick in the teeth, lol.
As a long-time investor I have to question their policy on dividends. With roughly half a billion in cash why would they not consider spreading some of it to shareholders? IMO, a dividend (even a small one) would attract some fund managers who otherwise would not invest in IDCC. Doesn't make sense to me, but what do I know, lol?
As a second choice I would like to see another major buy back......at least we could achieve a small float.
IDCC's position on dividends.
I found this in their FAQ section: http://ir.interdigital.com/faq.cfm
Does InterDigital pay a dividend?
InterDigital has not paid cash dividends on its common stock since inception. It is anticipated that in the foreseeable future, without regard to any cash proceeds the company might receive from any settlement or resolution of outstanding arbitrations or litigations, no cash dividends will be paid on the common stock. Any cash otherwise available for such dividends will be reinvested in the company's business or used to repurchase common stock. When considering whether or not to pay cash dividends, InterDigital's Board of Directors assesses earnings, any dividend requirements on preferred stock if issued in the future, capital requirements and other relevant factors.
(Jim, if this has already been posted please delete it. I don't recall seeing it on IHUB but I could be wrong).
You neglected to include the following from your response: "I'd like someone to show me a stock with better fundamentals and still remain in $20's with less than 50 million shares."
If you can show us a better stock to invest in, by all means do so.
And, why are you invested in IDCC if not for great returns?
I'll speak for myself when I say I really hope IDCC goes way beyond $40. It would be unrealistic to think that $1000 is attainable, but somewhere in the middle is possible IMO. I would hope $100 would be reachable on fundamentals alone. I'd like someone to show me a stock with better fundamentals and still remain in $20's with less than 50 million shares.
:)
I have 11 remaining. Have a great evening, Bob.
M3S, I thought you said enough said on this subject. You obviously are not a man of your word!
Yes sir, Olddog deserves a "ATTA BOY" LOL
Some people might want to stick to making bricks!
M3S, Jimlur posted the old post because it was relevant to a current 2G-3G discussion. Pay attention please. Also, it seems you have forgotten who moderates this forum.
Hock, thanks for broadening my outlook for a possible squeeze. Investing in stock is more complicated than most think. For this reason I don't get involved with options. I own IDCC for the long haul and only add to my position as finances permit.
First off: I'm not a expert on IDCC's contracts.
Second: I'm flattered that you think I am.
Third: Ahem......why are you attacking me?
You lost me somewhere in your post. Please explain in further detail. Tia
Speaking of a "short squeeze", doesn't short interest numbers come out today?
Great post, Mickey. You've summed it up in a nutshell. QCOM out-smarted IDCC (as did Nokia and Motorola) and left a deep scar in our investment. But, it appears that time has healed some of the scar. IMO, IDCC will have to meet QCOM somewhere in the middle regarding 4G and beyond.
I'm glad you asked about Irwin's death. I had not heard that he died. I believe his son now runs Qualcomm.
+1
IMO the shorts have been playing IDCC like a fiddle for way too long. I'm in favor of roasting them over a fire pit, lol.
Touche AMR. For the life of me I can not understand why investors remain unaware of IDCC's potential. I tend to think management needs to upgrade their PR dept.
Heck, forget our potential......just look at our current numbers. Almost $500M in cash. Come on investors........what are you waiting for?
Btw AMR, I'm pretty sure we share the same political views, but this forum is not the appropriate place for that discussion.
No politics please! Btw, IDCC is slowly creeping upward this afternoon.
Yes Miller, I understand the "2 steps forward, 1 step backward" concept. What I don't understand is large movement in either direction for no obvious reason.
I see your point. GOOG dropped about 30 bucks in the last few days. BUT, I don't own any GOOG.
Unfortunately, you may be on to something. All this cash on hand is not luring in the investors like many (including me) were hoping. Drat!!!!!!
Now I understand. Thanks for Websters definition. Soooo........when Merritt says they have so many millions in the bank.......that means they are hoarding cash. I see!
Miller, please explain your post. Can you elaborate on the word "hoard"?
Ouch!!!!!!! Why the drop...........with some volume I might add?
Unfortunately, you are correct. We're giving back some today I guess.
I wonder if we'll make it to $28 today. Anybody have a WAG? We can see who is closest at closing bell, lol.
Hmmm, IDCC is up almost 5% this morning. Great way to start off the New Year!
+1
Great post, Mickey. As most investors here are long, why is it wrong to post positive opinions about a stock we all believe in? I'm aware that most analysts opinions are "forward looking" as that is true with any stock.
Miller, you are 100% correct. This is no place for religion. My point is: I wonder how many posters would treat others the same if they met in person instead of through a keyboard AND why can't everyone just try to get along. After all, we are suppose to be mature adults, are we not?
Olddog, while I believe in God, a stock message board is no place for religious discussions..........so I guess you're right about that. As far as Mickey's real estate, his finances are his business.
My only question is: WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?
I've been following this discussion and I have to agree with Mickey. Data, especially for a Christian man, your response was in poor taste. Of course this just my opinion.
Why not just ignore each other if you can't be civilized in a forum discussion? Sheesh, some of you guys behave like schoolyard children. I wonder how you would treat each other in a face to face discussion!
Jim, Data and Mickey............as a outsider (who mostly lurks) looking in at you 3, it's annoying to watch you guys continually knock each other down. Especially when all 3 of you want the same goal for IDCC.
Come on, can't you guys start the NEW YEAR by turning the other cheek? At least be civil to each other. In your own way, each of you add something to this forum.
More like "profit taking"IMO.
