Thanks for your insight farooq. I'm probably more of a conservative options trader, so your long approach is right up my alley. I'm 0-2 in weeklies, but 8-1 in long term with an average of 30% return. 30% is kinda my desired return. Sometimes if the chart is looking like its turning I'll sell for 15-20% and if it looks like its on a beast run I'll hold until it looks like its slowing (SLV and PEP each made me 50% this week).
Couple more questions ... When you go long like your F Sept call, what strike price do you typically shoot for? I like Ford and am looking to go long with options. Also, what's a leap?
Thanks farooq!
Question ... Do you guys recommend longer term options (ie. let's say 2 months) or weeklies? Looks like the bigger money is in weeklies? More risky though, right? A balanced attack of long term and weeklies? How many options do you hold at one time? Thanks guys! This board is AWESOME! Learning so much from all of you. Have a great weekend!
Bought SLV Feb calls 2 weeks ago. Sold for 52% profit today. I've been playing longer term options. I've been able to make steady return with the "safety" of 1 1/2 - 2 months. But, I would like to learn more about how to read weeklies. Played 2 ... Lost 2:) .., so far. Any advice is appreciated! Have a great weekend!
You're a rockstar, Kim! Keep up the great DD work!!!
I wouldn't mind some pullback. Kicking myself that I didn't add at .10 or lower. Oh well. I'm cool with buying on the way up too. Actually, prefer that. VERY EXCITED about the potential of GERS. Maybe we all ARE geniuses;) Happy trading!
I like that!!!
Silver = 30.39. Will it continue up in the morning? I guess we will see soon!
Spot on my friend. Silver at 30.22.
HAHA!!! Yep ... My thought this morning was "Martin Luther King was an AWESOME man and deserves to be celebrated on an even greater scale. But, can we still open the markets?" Happy MLK day and looking forward to tomorrow!
Hey fellow DHT stockholders. Just wanted to share earnings estimates with you all. Have a great night.
Q4 earnings are expected to be announced after market hours on January 24, 2012Estimates:
0.070 | 0.045 | 0.010
(High | Mean | Low)
Sounds good. Later buddy.
I guess we live and learn, don't we Steve? Silver at 29.96 ... Sweet.
Sweet. Btw - person mark for you my friend. Happy trading!
The first option I traded I lost it all:) AAPL ... oops ... Then I read a book called "Understanding Options." Lo and behold, I understood them much much more. So, this month I started back at options and my average return so far has been 30%. Being a smalltime investor right now I'm pretty happy with that. Also, since I am a smalltime investor, I have very little capital. Options allows me to invest in stocks I like with smaller amounts of money. I like that.
Hey americano (Steve)! Thanks for sharing. Yep. I am a Steve as well:) Stephen to be exact. I'm pretty pumped about silver. Looks good to me. I invest in SLV with options. I have $29 Feb calls. I plan on buying and selling options all the way up! Meet ya at the top of Silver Mountain:) Happy trading Steve!
Oh ok. Thanks for the insight tallstahl. So, we can expect to see great mornings and mediocre closes on this trek upwards? Silver keeps making its way up. 30.22. Happy trading!
Hey truth. From what I can see on past charts, that seems to be the norm, doesn't it? Happy trading my friend.
Hey veterans of SLV! Is it typical for SLV to start off up and then taper off throughout the day? It seems that way. I've been in SLV for a couple weeks now. Was thinking we were going to have a big day with silver over 30 and premarket looked great. Oh well. Still looks good longterm.
Excellent points MM. In your experience, what's the better way to play a "lotto play?" Way OTM and far out or weeklies? The weeklies intrigue me but I'm not sure if I'm ready to play those yet. Almost tried it today but didn't pull the trigger. Thanks and happy trading!
Steve
Thanks lee! Happy trading my friend!
Hey lee. Thanks for all the free advice! What do you consider an acceptable profit, if you don't mind me asking?
Another good point kapooo. I thought about avg down ... But that's not a good thing in options, eh? Makes sense when ya stop and think about the expiration of an option compared to a stock. Nice post.
Hey lee. Member mark for you my friend. Great post. I struggle with that very thing. I like your rule of never lose more than 50%. I think I might steal it:)
Out ~ COP Feb $72.50 put for 33% profit. Have a great weekend everybody!
Me too. Got a couple puts I want to make money on:D
Lesson #5,379
Learn from Daniel's mistake:)
I'm with ya on that lesson. Too many times I have not sold when the price would reach the level that I've set for myself. Getting better ... but still get caught up in momentum sometimes. Happy trading!
Unfortunately, I gotta agree with you. I'm still interested to see where this goes, but for now, I'm not paying much attention to it. The "red" would depress me if I just kept following it. Holding my position at a 70% loss for now and making money on options of already established companies. No way I'm selling but no way I'm buying either. Happy trading!
Hey Doc. Member mark for you! Happy trading! Btw - thanks for what you do for our country.
$COP $BAC $MRO calls ... sold them all today for avg of 30% profit. Turn around and bought $COP and $JPM puts. They seem overbought and are due to come back down a little bit to me. Also picked up $SLV calls. By the way - I'm new to this board and excited to get to know you all and exchange $$$ making trade ideas. Happy trading!
Thanks bro! Welcome to iHub my friend!
I second that! SSN looks good. For some, SSN came back down and hit some stop-loss orders as well. Hit mine. In at 1.74 out at 2.16 this past Tuesday. Is on top of my watchlist. Happy trading and may 2012 be a great year for ya.
Hey rickk. I'm with ya bro. I'm holding $105 Feb calls. $MCD just keeps going. Happy trading and Happy 2012 to you!
Hey Sean. I am really liking SSN. With their fundamentals and possibilities I agree with you that we could see $3-5 in a few months. I'm excited about this company.
Hey Martin. I bought in yesterday. I dig the fundamentals and the possibilities of $SSN. Could be fun. Happy trading!
Yeah, still loving AFPW here. Wouldn't mind some PPS movement, but being patient. Bears definitely need something. Not sure what that is because they were clicking until Cutler got hurt. I really enjoy watching the Packers play this year. You got a good, classy team there. Since the Bears aren't gonna go to the playoffs, I'm pulling for the Pack. If my team can't go might as well root for the rivals, right?:)
I'm a Bears fan and I don't think you'll have any issues with getting that 2nd present of yours:)
I think until we see revenue there is no "forward looking" PR that will make the PPS move. We as shareholders need to see that our hard earned money is making us money. I am all for speculation and taking chances on a startup, but at some point I need to see a return or I'm out. I think that is where many investors are at with ADHC.
I never said it was "proper."
Happens all the time ... From AAPL to ADHC.
Hey all! Just started looking at CXZ. Looks interesting ... I like that they have cash and no debt. But, i noticed they have not had any revenues from 2007 to present. Is my ETrade info off or is that true? Thanks and happy trading!
