Which leads to an all important question : What is a CE?
A consumer Electronic is ANYTHING that can Receive Store Transmit data.
So anything can be a CE if you stick a 'chip' in it, fridge/washers/dryers/pens/microwave/ovens/tv/watches/cars/bikes/toys/cloths, anything thats connected to the internet, a NFC chip also makes any device a CE.
That leads to a very vague and broad ranging definition of a CE, which in turn opens that definition to legal challenge/interpretation, which ANY company that buys lqmt will seek to exploit.
(many here have said that the Apple/lqmt agreement was one-sided against lqmt, that alone opens grounds for a legal challenge)
That is just my layman understanding.
As if that has stopped Samsong or Google in the past, and that is YOUR interpretation.
You can be sure Google, Samsong would disagree with that.
The point was that if campaniles can blatantly steal IP then how can they be stopped from using IP they own?
Maybe i can explain it to you this way,
"Possession is nine-tenths of the law"
and you can be sure Any new owner will challenge a $20 million exclusive use deal.
Google and Samsong have copied and stolen design and software ideas from Apple for years.
Even with patents being owned exclusively by Apple it was still not able to stop Android OS (cause its supposedly free, but not) or Samsong from copying Apple.
Nearly a billion dollar award to Apple is still unpaid by Samsong and more importantly the damage of that IP theft is worth many times more than the penalties. How much is Google worth thanks to Android?
If Apple can't stop competitors infringing on patents owned 100% by Apple then how on earth can Apple stop any new legal owner of LQMT/CIP from using those patents?
To stop a competitor from owning and using CIP patents is a good reason.
What happens IF Google or Samsong decide to buy lqmt,....does that mean they own CIP but can't use the Patents for CE devices? I don't think so, who ever owns CIP will be allowed to use the Patents its only lqmt that has agreed not to compete against Apple in CE or license its patents to others for CE products.
Apple would still be allowed to use CIP patents BUT so will the competitor that buys lqmt, not an ideal situation for Apple when its always trying to stop OEMs copying their products. The new owner will also be allowed to license CIP patents to anyone, CE included. Apple would have to buy lqmt to stop competitors getting CIP.
Apple will protect all CIP patents, it has spent millions on R&D and won't let someone else infringe on their IP.
If lqmt can't defend CIP patents from theft then Apple will. Nice having the worlds richest company as a partner.
Licensee Engel would also have concern if another manufacture was using CIP patents to inject mold bmg without being licensed by lqmt.
Why thank you, And may you also have a nice Memorial Day Weekend and take care of your family too.
No article, i was pointing out some well known facts, Apple protects CIP, lqmt owns CIP, lqmt bmg is used in the MA knife, Engel is an exclusive partner for Injection molding lqmt's bmg and using lqmt's patents too, the medical device is possible at the Engel show.
Liquidmetal Technology’s BMG alloy used in First Injection Molded Device, an Interlocking and Rotating Knife.
Manufactured using Liquidmetal’s Patents that are Protected by the World’s Richest Company Apple.
Injection Molded Exclusively in Partnership with World Renowned,Respected and Trusted Engel.
First Publicised Device from the Apple/Lqmt/Engel arrangement,
Possible Engel Symposium medical device.
BDDD with Engel? I don't think so.
We are finally on the cusp of commercialisation.
Imagine Hauck walking around the Blade Show with the Hybrid knife, stopping at every large knife manufacture and saying "hey look at what we can now mold, knives !"
RFQ's through the roof.
Sim Ejector tool - Stamped,
Golf Clubs - Die Cast,
Vmatter - Die Cast,
Hybrid Knife - Injection Molded ....... with commercially reliable Engel
that ratio should be at least 60% more than the current bend/break ratio, so possibly,
Perhaps quality control on this semi-amorphous alloy ?

Seems Apple is really interested in semi-amorphous alloys.
I'm ignorant to what that could mean.
He could also have a plastic IM machine for faster mold turnaround so he can test more prototype parts before making lqmt molds.
So i hope you realise that Hundreds of Prototype molds can be used on just ONE Engel IM machine, Steipp himself said it just takes about 45minutes to change out the molds.
I doubt anyone could have predicted Apple would go backwards and start using plastic again to make the iPhone 5c, but they did, was it to test mold designs and production techniques in preparation for the next "cheap" iPhone to be made of lqmt?
Indeed, take a look at ALL the Machines Jonathan Ive has just for his research, that was in 2013, no reason why he doesn't now have Engel machines to research with.
So its possible Apple made the iPhone4 band the same way it made the watch, fast/jet chilled molten alloys to restrict crystallisation then CNC those alloys the old way, next step Engel machines that can commercially mold non-zirconium based alloys.
I can see why lqmt decided to just concentrate on 1 zirconium alloy BMG for commercialisation while Apple/Engel R&D other alloys.
So long as Apple uses CIP/Engel to process those BMG formulas, that would attract interest to lqmt.
I wonder if the BMG in the iPhone4 was semi-amorphous (restricted crystallisation growth) minor alloy improvements are better than no improvements.
lqmt has 68% iron based BMG
