IDCC awards 10 cents per quarter dividend!
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/news/article.aspx?Feed=BW&Date=20101213&ID=12506425&Symbol=IDCC
Well, it was a nice run today...........while it lasted. Maybe better things will happen through out the week.
A team of wild horses couldn't pull my shares away from me right now, lol.
Yes, I understand your point. I guess what I meant to say is......Wallstreet isn't awarding such high PE's now days. IIRC, at one time Qualcomm had a PE over 100. I think those days are long gone.
Not to minimize the current run-up, but the big run in 1999 happened during a strong economy and stock bubble. I prefer a slow, gradual climb like we are experiencing now.
Geez-a-lou, at this rate we could bust through $40 today.

Great post, John! It makes me want to buy more shares.
Make that $.80
Mickey, you might be a tad optimistic, but I sure like your thoughts on this.
Yes, high volume and a rise of half a buck. I wonder how many of these shares are being covered by short sellers. Does anyone have access to data that shows which trades are shorts covering? Tia
I can't thank you enough for this video, Loop. I forwarded it to everyone I know.
All I can say is WOW..............we just blew through the 10 year high. Gotta love it!
I'm not sure why this is happening........but I like it!
I tend you to agree with your assessment Mickey. Sooner or later the short sellers will have to take their lumps. My hope is that it's sooner!
Isn't CommNexus a neighbor to Qualcom? Interesting!
Ouch! That's scary. Pretty soon we will be back to bartering........like trading a cow for a wheelbarrow full of wheat.
Maybe the following quote is familiar:
"The Investors's Chief Problem--and even his worst enemy--is likely to be himself"
---Benjamin Graham
Are you serious? As I have said before many times, how long you or anyone else have in your mind, "suffered", as a shareholder means NOTHING.
Suffered? Never said I suffered (please quit putting words in my mouth). I suppose you consider it "suffering" when mgmt awards themselves juicy bonuses while shareholders twittle their thumbs. Back to lurking......it's obvious I'm not enough of cheerleader to suck-up to a few of you!
Bulldzr, thanks for putting this into words that I was unable to think of. Seems some members of this forum just like to attack anybody that doesn't think like they do. I'll go back to lurking mode.
Ddodd, you are absolutely correct, Goldberg is long gone. Most, if not all, investors buy stocks because of their past accomplishments. Whether you like it or not, Goldberg was part of this company's past. Please explain when and why you bought Idcc shares. Maybe your reasons are non-sense too!
As did you. I've got a few years before retirement and will hold at least until then.
who cares? that was 10 yrs ago!!!
I care! Those comments were a big part of the reason many of us initially bought shares.....and still own shares today. When a CEO of a company makes these kind of statements, people listen.
Data, thanks for digging up the actual comments. I was relying on memory. Btw, I do recall Goldberg making a comment about having a calculator with many zeros........I can't prove it...........but I'm sure he said it. Maybe someone else here remembers this.
Why is it ridiculous to reward long-time investors who've been loyal to IDCC rather than newcomers who buy after the dividend is announced just for a quick cash payout? Long-time investors will probably not be rewarded, but it would not be ridiculous.
GUNGREY. One does not sell trying to "catch the falling knife". One buys and catches [or gets knifed] by the falling knife. You need to brush up on your b**lsh*t
It's not bu*lsh*t.......that is what I did. Maybe "falling knife" was wrong use of words, but I did sell while share price was falling rapidly. A couple of you guys are very quick to pass judgement on fellow investors just because we don't wear pom-poms.
Why are you digging up ancient history?
Because this ancient history may have a lot to do with why many investors have held this stock for 10+ years.
Please explain how my motives are questionable. Why is it wrong for long-term investors to want a piece of the pie? As long as we are on this topic, why is it you start slamming anyone that isn't a cheerleader? I'm allowed to have an opinion....same as you. Btw, isn't there something in TOS about attacking the post not the poster?
Also, wouldn't it be nice if IDCC awarded a little bigger one-time dividend to investors that have been invested since.......let's say..........12-31-09 (or longer)?
Nope.......just sold once trying to catch the falling knife on the way down from $82. Have not sold since then. IIRC, my average cost to date is about $22.
As for the hype (baby Qualcomm....engine & transmission....calculator) I believe baby Qualcomm was stated on CNBC and engine/calculator came out of Howard Goldberg's mouth. Neither came from message boards.
Now YOU have to admit that 2010 has seen quite an improvement over years past....don't you? Have you bought or sold any shares this year?
Data, I first bought shares in 1999-2000 at about $53 and sold after the run-up to $82. However, I didn't sell until shares were back down to $57. Then I stayed out until 2003 and bought back in for about $14 and have added here and there over the past 6 years. I don't consider myself a trader by any means.
However, I guess I was hoodwinked by the hype.......baby Qualcomm....engine & transmission....calculator. I guess my opinion is that if mgmt gives itself bonuses, why shouldn't we get a piece of the pie?
My point exactly! We've been hearing about the engine & transmission and calculator with many zeros for how long?
"bucket"....which is probably less than $200M (my guess). Maybe so......but you can't deny that mgmt has been rewarded rather handsomely and shareholders have been virtually stiffed. How much longer do we have to wait? Seems like a big deal is always right around the corner. They have held the carrot in front of our noses long enough. It's time to feed us some carrots IMO.
Potato....potahto. Data, no matter how you look at it, IDCC is sitting on a boat load of cash with more coming down the pipe. In case you have not noticed, mgmt has doesn't have a problem lining their own pockets.......I say it's about time the cup runneth over to shareholders. Am I wrong in my thinking?
Like I said to Dclarke............Let's hope you are correct. And I really mean it!
TOUCHE!!!
Beats me! What happens if no deals are signed before years end? IDCC is plump with cash right now.........why the delay?
You make a good point, however, how long has everyone here been waiting for something to happen? Seems like the only thing we do here is wait.............going on 8 years now! I'll continue to hold on to my shares, but I'm just sayin........
I hear ya! But doesn't IDCC currently have about $600,000,000.00 in cash? What was it our prez told Joe The Plumber.....let's spread the wealth.
My hopes aren't too high. I've been here long enough to see Nokia weazle out of paying IDCC in the past. Hopefully they will settle for a fair rate. I just don't see a connection between a dividend and signing a license deal.
That is as far from common sense as it gets imo. They know what the dividend will be imo and have known. They said it would be announced the qtr which is not over.
If they know how much........then why wait? Why not announce the amount now, then announce a "new" license deal when it happens? This way they'll have 2 press releases. I don't see how one correlates with the other.
Imo, the long wait cements the theory that the dividend announcement is paired with another event. Calculating a proper dividend does not take a month.
Dclarke, I sincerely hope you are correct.
Common sense tells me that the longer it takes for IDCC to announce the amount of dividend, the lower it will be. If the dividend was....lets say.....3%, they would have boastfully announced it already IMO.
