They seem more authentic than the ones on CNET
And as hard drive capacity gets larger, the content potential gets even greater and opens up all sorts of possibilities.
Re:IFE
A few months ago, it was posted that we would likely hear from 3 airlines soon about IFE orders/tests: 2 much larger than Alaska airways and one smaller.
Well, it looks like most of that has come true. We have confirmation of 1 of the larger ones (Ted/United) and the smaller one (Hawaiian). Who could the other large one be?

"I'm beginning to think...."
Well, its a start.
This is all getting way out of hand. Call me easy, but I'll be happy if a plane gets me from point A to B without crashing or blowing up into little pieces.
OT-Importan employment numbers on Friday hinting that they are gonna come in low again
That won't be good for the market overall, although any major move down might be postponed until later in the month.
I think that's one of the prerequisites for the FAA to recognize you as a public airline carrier nowadays LOL
Well, I think that explains the 5-to-1 in favor of digE. If they charged $5 for rental, do you think someone would rather watch a single in flight movie or have a personal player with a much broader selection that they could pause, rewind, etc.? Not much of a contest.
Getting back to Ted, it still looks like free tedvision (vs. $5 for HA in flight movie) is crimping digeplayer sales.
"I read somewhere recently that HA was trying out 1 player"
Hope it wasn't for the pilot!
IMO, even given away these units would still be cost effective over installed IFE based on the fuel savings alone.
Come on, have a little patience. They don't even have an official order in hand. This is just a blurb about how the trial went. If they issued a PR on something like this we'd have to put up with a neverending stream of criticism about 'fluff PRs' and how 'this doesn't say there is an order yet'. Better to have it set in stone first.
All in good time. IMO, from the response it sounds like we will see an order. As for the size that remains to be seen. Baby steps maybe, but the direction is right.
The question always boils down to this "is it better to have an order than no order at all"?
Discuss
Sounds like they charged on Hawaiian as well, do you think it was <$10? From the response, it doesn't seem that rental fee was a factor.
Sounds to me like we'll have an official PR with an order size attached to it sooner rather than later, so let me get the ball rolling for the 'altruistic' posters here, lol
Which argument should we start with?
a) Hawaiian airlines is a rinky dink outfit and the order number is insignificant
b) The margins must be awful on this deal, APS/EDIG are probably paying the company to use the players
c) The order says "up to <insert number> units", it could be for only one unit as far as we know (<-- my favorite)
and of course the standards
d) You know the ipod is still outselling the DMP-X20
or
e) Yeah, but I still want to know about the Series <insert letter> conversion
or even better
f) I read an anonymous message board post that RP told someone 4 years ago that the MP2000 was released in Korea, so how do I know Hawaiian airlines is really carrying our player?
You know, the one in which EDIG gets other companies to help them fool their investors by approving PRs with comments from their management. Its all the rage - for complete game rules you'd have to ask more 'knowledgeable' posters on this board.
Would be interesting to see if this comparison was done on flights where both choices were offered or between separate flights in which one or the other choice was offered. If it was the latter case, I think its clear that Ted's existing Tedvision may have been a major reason for good but not extraordinary demand for the digEplayer in Uniteds trials.
Add another member to the grand EDIG/APS digeplayer conspiracy plot!
"During the test period we ran a comparison on these first 5 flights between the digEplayer and our standard in-flight system and the digEplayer outsold head-set sales by nearly 5 to 1."
"I am convinced the players will be a big hit on our Honolulu-Sydney routes with the long flight times."
That pushes the limits of the battery life projections so it must be a pretty accurate estimate.
You've gotta admire B.Boyer's style. He's out there, on the plane, doing hands on training and promotion, really pushing to make the product a success. Some may decry our need to work through APS to get airlines on board, but as Martha used to say, its a "good thing".
OT--Hmmm, maybe there is some potential in PTSC's 'business' strategy, lets fire all the engineers and replace them with lawyers! LOL

I think the next month could be pretty critical for the overall market for the next year. We just underwent our most significant technical pullback for a while and will probably rally from end of month window dressing and last minute IRA contribution money getting injected into the market.
After that, its make or break time. The 'give it time' argument is wearing thin on the job creation front and the government tax stimulus has almost run its course. If there isn't more meat on that bone a month from now, I think some big players are gonna start losing faith in this "recovery".
You might be right, I'm a bit egocentric so I like to think that events in world revolve around my actions, lol
Nah, I just injected a little volume this morning so the MMs are probably trying to stir the pot a bit (noticed they did their usual 1-1.5 cent bid/ask drop right after my order got filled, gee, I wonder if they scalped that cent off of me and turned around and bought the shares for cheaper? That would be a refreshing change of pace, lol)
Anyway, added a bit on technical reasons. I figure we've done the 62% retrace from the .12-.63c runup, so we have some support here.
Its approaching two months now (last official PR about large Alaska Airlines order). Only other news I see happening soon is possible IFE orders. F10 appears on hold, and the next 'stated' product that I'm interested in is this dual video/audio player based on the O1000 form factor. This is supposed to be released by a well known name brand by late spring (I'm not pinning my hopes on before summer)
If that's truly where mOS' strength lies, EDIG could make a hit player (branded by someone else of course) by making one compatible with all major DRMs, codecs.
Problem with that is that the 2 ton gorilla in the market is Apple and they aren't opening up their Fairplay DRM scheme to any manufacturers yet.
LOL, yes, my point exactly
R.I.F.
I find the HD business (much like the long distance market) is a good argument against pure laissez-faire capitalism. Its a very high tech product that requires a continuous amount of expensive innovation, but in the end, the market is so competitive, even the big players find it hard to make money.
Please doctor, you of all people should know to show some respect for the dearly departed, LOL!
True, but PVPs face the same roadblock audio jukeboxes did a few years ago, lack of premium content. So while we haven't seen anything in the consumer space from the company yet (and from the dec and feb webcasts it sounds like that will change by summer), its still very early in this market. PVPs out now might go the way of the nomad jukebox - we want to be the video ipod. And securing premium content (as we were able to do with the digeplayer thanks to our security features) will be the key to getting there.

If anything put out by EDIG to date deserves an award, it would be the digEplayer in terms of innovation.
Got bored and did my periodic checkup on the CNET user opinion page for the dmp-x20.
Its pathetic how someone(s) obviously (inciteful comments such as "the worst player on the market" and "avoid at all costs" show these people never even used the player; also suspicious near simultaneous posting times) posted a slew of fake negative reviews. Well, it looks like they achieved their goal of pushing what was a once overall favorable poll to a negative one.
Wonder who it could be, competitors? disgruntled EDIG investors (don't laugh I've seen some of these sites with people saying don't buy the player because of EDIG PPS, lol)? maybe our resident saints?
Good point, maybe they should try Yum foods (?), aren't they the ones who own PFK, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, etc. Never get tired of hearing "is Pepsi okay?" when I ask for a coke at one of those places.
