I really enjoyed "Understanding Options" by Michael Sincere. I appreciate how well it explains the basics of trading options. Happy trading Royal!
I hope so. GERS is one of my buy and forget about stocks. Definitely going for the long haul with it. Just wouldn't mind an occasional "here's what we are up to" PR. Happy trading Jim!
I saw a 911 trade in there. Do you guys think that MMs still use codes? All I know is it would be nice to hear something straight from GERS.
So, how about SLV follows spot this week so I can sell my Mar $33 call for a nice profit ... And then they can part ways ... And I'll follow it down with some puts. Deal?:)
Would like to see SLV match that spot price sometime soon!!!
Haha! I gotta admit ... I'm a lifelong Bears fan ... Which makes us rivals:) But, I was really rooting for the Pack this year. Classy team!
What?!?! Small world. Yep, I live in LP ... For now:) Wow. Lived here all my life. Looking to move out west though. It's crazy we've been chatting this whole time on iHub and quite possibly know alot of the same people and didn't even realize it. I love technology!
Funny story ~ I accidentally put in a stop limit on SLV this week. Didn't realize until I was down something like 70-80%. I got mad at myself and cancelled the order. I thought, "what's the point in selling now?" I was busy at work and didn't have a chance to sit down and look at my account until about 1:30 or so. Opened up my ETrade Pro and to my surprise, SLV was now up over 120%! I then CAREFULLY:) placed a trailing stop and it triggered at about 110%. Moral of the story? Make sure it is a market stop when that's what you are thinking you are inputting. I just so happened to luck out that SLV made a massive bull run that afternoon. Can laugh now ... I wasn't that morning though:)
That's what I usually do ... Setup a stoploss immediately. Had a couple big lapses in judgment this week. It won't happen again ... I guarantee that!
Awesome post deej. Saved it. Thanks for your insight and encouragement to STICK TO YOUR PLAN! I learned this week the hard way:(
Thanks Aikixen. Keep us all posted on what your plan is or will be. I know I like to learn from others and incorporate some of their plan into mine:) Happy trading!
Hey sdh. What's your thought on selling 1/2 of position when one gets to 100%+? Worth it or better to just take profit and move on?
Hey Aikixen. I'm still fresh myself. Alot of disciplined vets that will give you great advice here. As soon as I make a buy I setup a stop loss at 30% below bid. I leave that stop until my trade hits +30%. I then setup a trailing stop 10% below. Has worked well for me ... When I stick to it;) Have had a couple lapses.
$SINA Congrats to all that had those calls! Wow!!! So, how do you guys find those kind of weeklies? They seem way more fun than the ones that everybody else is already in. I want to find the off the beaten path plays. Have a great weekend!
Hey!!! What happened? .87. Sweet. I don't pay attention to this stock as much as my others cuz it sits in my buy and hold portfolio. Good way to end the week.
That last statement is great to hear! I've had a couple bad ones in a row. So, looking for the one that will at least balance the losses. Ya know, I blame these losses I've had on getting away from my discipline. I saw a post earlier about not straying away from discipline ... Yep, I can definitely agree with that. Lesson learned? Yep - I'm sticking to my discipline.
Amen to that! Have a great day jimmybob!
Thanks for the tips MM! This is the best board in iHub. No bickering ... No egos ... Just a bunch of traders from all walks of life trying to make $$$, while taking time to pass along words of wisdom and encouragement to those who are still learning. Thanks to all who do that. I really appreciate it! Happy trading to all.
RetiredMM ... Thanks for the great response. Everything you said made complete sense. That was my first earnings play AND my first weekly. I learned my lesson. I'm not going to do that again:) I've been content with my long plays ... 2-3 months out. I've been consistently making 30%+ profit on each play. I'm very happy with that. I saw how alot of you vets make some good money playing weeklies and I wanted to try it out ... My hat's off to all of you ... It's difficult and I was sick the whole time:) I'll go back to my long options. Thanks again!
$AAPL Hey iheartmoney. Thanks for your response. So, do you think there's any chance the options will move back up? Or are we just out of luck. Whatever happened it seems illegal.
$AAPL So, what does that mean then? We are left holding the bag? This is not right. If I lose because I made the wrong call that's one thing ... But I made the right call and now I'm down 60%?!?! That's crap!
$NFLX Cool. Sounds good rickk. Hopefully your put makes money so I can make money with ya!:)
$NFLX I have a weekly put. We shall see ... You?
Question for ya options veterans ... How would I get a ballpark figure for the value of an option I have? For example, I have an AAPL $470 weekly call.
Once again, in too early on a couple calls. Holding AAPL $470 weekly call but at higher cost. Picked it up on Friday. Also holding AAPL $540 Mar call. Picked that up 3 weeks ago. So, right now RED with those because of how early I picked them up. Maybe tomorrow will change that?:) Happy trading!
Do real investors really listen to "analysts" anyway?:)
Pretty exciting! Happy trading.
Your post is much nicer than mine. All I had was a lame link:) DHT looking good.
Hey guys! Q4 earnings. EPS of .07. Div of .03. Here's the link.

Great post my friend. Spot on ... I consider myself to be an intermediate investor right now. I am learning EVERYDAY. But, because I'm still quite new, I think I'm quick on the trigger to buy and sell. My thought is I am OK with selling prematurely compared to holding too long. But, I want to cut down on the early buying, though. I LOVE charts. I'm still learning. I work all day. Come home and spend time with my wife. Then, the rest of the night is spent learning about stocks, options, charts ... etc. :)
I do like SLV as of the past couple weeks. Bought, sold, and bought again. Already up on it again. This time, though, I bought a weekly instead of Feb call.
My thoughts on the GOOG call ... I'd like to hear your thoughts. Like I said earlier, I like to learn and I'm always up for advice from others. So, I'm all about hearing what others have to say. My thought on GOOG is that there was all kinds of panic selling. I'm not saying that GOOG is out of the woods. They seem confused on direction. They have their hands in many areas, but to me, they are just good at everything instead of excellent at a few things. Back to the panic ... they look way oversold on the 50-day because of the panic. The 1-day towards the end of the day, they started to rise again. My thought is it will bounce back to about 600 because of the panic and I think it will start this week, if not tomorrow.
Once again, I'm still an intermediate. Any thoughts or suggestions to my reasoning are more than welcome and very appreciated. Have a great night! Thanks Breakout!
Steve
btw - it's GOOG weekly 605 call.
Hey Breakout. Nice post my friend. I saved that post for a reminder in my options trading. I think that's a big part of what goes on with me. The other part is when I checkout fundamentals and charts/tech, I can tell that the stock is making a turn but right now I'm not confident in myself yet. Sometimes I make the call too early ... That's why I like the 1 1/2 to 2 month padding. Instead of losing in weeklies because I've made the call too early, I still make money on the longer calls/puts. If I would have bought weeklies in MRO, PEP, COP, SLV, COP (twice!) I would have made much more $$$. I think I just need more experience and confidence. If you have any thoughts on how I can better myself with weeklies let me know. I would really like to add more to my portfolio. By the way, I'm thinking about picking up GOOG 600 on Monday. Any thoughts? Thanks Breakout!!!
Hey Ugot. Nice post. Mind me asking what stock was the $475 to $32,000 profit?
For the first time EVER I am GREEN with GERS!!! Woohoo! Actually added some .14 to my .20 position. Excited for the future.
Cool. Thanks buddy for taking time to chat. Have a great weekend!
Steve
Yeah, thats my thought behind it ... There's got to be a pullback sometime. I have calls in almost all my holdings, but seems like we are due for a pullback at some point. Then again, it sure would be fun if there wasn't:)
So, how do you find alot of these plays? Screeners? I use ETrade and I'm still trying to figure out what some of the stuff means in my screener:) right now, I just study the charts of some of my favorite companies and play them over and over when it looks time to buy/sell. I saw your post about CF. Nice.
Hey jimmybob! How would you trade this one, if you don't mind me asking? Call/put? Weekly? I've seen you got some mad skills:) and i want to become a better trader ... so, if you don't mind, i would like to pick your brain ... For fun, I would pickup Feb or Mar calls with a strike of 30. In your opinion, would that pickup be a profit or loss?
Hey dr! Thanks for your reply. I will check out QCOM for sure. That's a great idea. So, have you used a strangle or straddle before? If so, how did that work out for you? I've never tried one before but seem interesting to me.
Another question for you all ... I'm learning about some of the options strategies. I'm looking at the long strangle. Do you think this strategy would be beneficial for AAPL coming up this week due to earnings coming out on Tuesday? Seems to me that maybe AAPL could move huge either way depending on the report.
