I don't see why greater longevity isn't possible. Even if it's only double the range that would have a dramatic impact. An EV drive train should far outlast an ICE drive train. Assuming battery technology improves in both capacity and number of cycles, a properly maintained EV should have a significant increase in total miles. As jbog points out it would come down to environmental impact more than mechanical wear. The possible reduction in materials would have a major impact on CO2 emissions...and hard to imagine the economic impact on related industries.
Interesting read....covers areas I hadn't considered. Confirms China is well ahead of all other competitors.

Most interesting prediction is the dramatic drop in car sales by 2030
Hey....best business plan on the planet. Sell an often useless product, with guaranteed payment for services rendered with no loss provision for uncollectable debt because the debt holder is the US taxpayer. PT Barnum would be envious.....

Hype machine running on overdrive,,,,
today it might be related to the Chinese restriction on exporting germanium and gallium (???) even though I don't believe either is present in the polymetallic nodules. Many Rare Earth shares are up today for that reason. For the run-up that started at $.66 I would assume it's anticipation of TMC filing for a license to mine. People perhaps believe that, assuming a license is granted, TMC has 1st mover advantage and funding will follow. I think with the building call for more study, even with a license there will be legal challenges to overcome. But had you bought at $.66 you'd be looking at a substantial gain.
TMC....+26%.
I believe that's a fairly accurate assessment...

Threatened by shortages, electric car makers race for supplies of lithium for batteries
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/threatened-shortages-electric-car-makers-035822815.html
This being the case, It's only a matter of time before Pilbara Minerals can find a JV partner to build a lithium hydroxide processing facility. Their expansion plans provide enough surplus spodumene to produce approximately 40,000 MT of lithium hydroxide starting end of 2024, beginning 2025. I think the only question is where do they get the best deal, USA or Europe?
......If you don't snap up a source......you lose.
If you believe the story that Cu and Li will be in chronic short supply with the shortfall growing substantially 2024 beyond, capital gains outperform dividends. At these price levels there is a lot of room to appreciate.
That works......
indeed.....

Yes...the recent run in TSLA's share price has brought out the cheer leading squad. My favorite is the parroting of "self driving" vehicle is imminent, which is supposed to underpin the irrational market cap. Of course there is never a detailed explanation of what level of automation they consider "self driving". Musk....is the big winner in the circus.
warranted, or not, TMC is on a tear. June 6th @ .66/share, today $1.6133 on 6+ times normal daily volume. Assume it's build up to formally filing mining application. But with many nations lining up against deep sea mining it's difficult to see how roadblocks to actual mining might be hard to overcome.

UPDATE 2-Musk says vehicle autonomy is 'main driver' of Tesla value
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/1-musk-teslas-value-based-154248164.html
lot of hype, lacking substance. Tesla's system is stuck at level 2, has been for years. A few software "tweaks" won't leapfrog it to level 5. It's becoming a tiresome old song. In fact a Tesla competitor actually has a level three system. Perhaps they should parrot the Tesla line and maybe their market cap would rocket....
Elon, time to put up or ?????
appreciated.......and understood. Just trying to find as much input as possible. Thank you.
Does anyone have an opinion on AMD's new chip? Reading as many technical reviews as I can find. On "paper" it looks like a step up?
Codelco CEO leaves as copper giant faces lithium role, output slump

Production at 25-year low
Codelco’s copper production has fallen this year more than 11% to at a 25-year low, despite investing about $3.5 billion a year to revamp its aging mines.
Employment can't get hotter than this....
NH's unemployment rate hits record low in May at 1.9%

Becoming an impediment to growth, but great for employable individuals. :)
As an aside.....a former employee of mine just retired as a plant/equipment maintenance worker for a fortune 1000 company. Very skilled machinist, excellent machine maintenance man. He's 64 and can't physically handle the work. Most interesting; there are six employed maintenance workers at this 24/7 manufacturing facility (now 5) and he was the youngest of the six. His comment to me; had no idea how the company could replace all these employees as they retire. This problem accross the country is only getting more problematic.
Not an encouraging article.....
First It Was Quiet Quitting, Now Workers Are Facing Off With Their Bosses
https://www.wsj.com/articles/first-it-was-quiet-quitting-now-workers-are-facing-off-with-their-bosses-5bb63cea?siteid=yhoof2
Productivity is becoming an issue. AI could be far more impactful if the decision to replace "Quiet Quitters" and disengaged employees is adopted. If someone is in a career that AI can duplicate they might want to think twice (or three times) about their dedication and commitment ?????
Thanks for the link....I'll give it a try!
Useful, and a good application. The article does note some downside issues, but no doubt the process will be refined over time.

A bankruptcy judge rejected 3M’s use of chapter 11 to resolve the largest mass tort case in U.S. history, dismissing a “fatally premature” bankruptcy case filed by its military earplug manufacturing unit.
I don't have an opinion one way or another. If it can be exploited for some advantage it will be.
LOL...you read my mind.
Perhaps each investors AI will be able to gain an advantage by out "faking" the other guy's AI?
Thanks...I did see that. I sold my SCCO, TECK and FQVLF positions a few months ago. Held FCX and a few smaller miners. Will be adding as the opportunities arise. I'm still bullish copper and lithium.
side note...I've been buying PKX and ALB as I believe they are particularly well positioned as the battery minerals space heats up. Still holding PILBF, and will buy back the OROCF shares I recently sold when opportunity knocks. Also keeping LINRF on my buy list, 1st production by mid 2024, and their reserves have been compared to Patriot Battery in volume and concentration.
There's no doubt that AI tools will be abused and used by scammers on the internet, for all manner of illegal activities. I also believe they will be more successful using AI then they've been using existing tools.
Spending time reading as many opinions about the economic impact of AI. It's either the greatest advancement in technology since the 1st working transistor, or it's hype on overdrive greater then the craze we experienced in the late 90's. I doubt anyone really understands and can (yet) quantify the impact. It won't be long before everything is "AI" related, even if it's a most obscure association.
Toyota has a point...
For me, too many distortions in equities and the economy to know what would constitute fair value. From what I observe seems to be in the eye of the beholder.
The market froth is narrow
;) "Happy Hour" started early for markets. Too frothy for me, skeptical the FED has a handle on anything, coupled with the AI mania which looks well ahead of reality. Of course exuberance and a fear of missing the next run-up are too tempting for many to resist. Party on.......
Beside that "minor" issue, thingz are fine......
