I don't see why greater longevity isn't possible. Even if it's only double the range that would have a dramatic impact. An EV drive train should far outlast an ICE drive train. Assuming battery technology improves in both capacity and number of cycles, a properly maintained EV should have a significant increase in total miles. As jbog points out it would come down to environmental impact more than mechanical wear. The possible reduction in materials would have a major impact on CO2 emissions...and hard to imagine the economic impact on related industries.
