I don't want to beat a dead horse here but if anyone thinks they know that NVEC is all hype then by all means short it. I hope this is just bravado talk here and nobody is foolish enough to do that of course.
NVEC up about $3
East Bay,
If NVEC dropped to 42 would you really want it then?
East Bay,
Long NVEC since 30's and low 40's. I've traded some but am holding core from 42. No doubt this will be volatile but I don't want to be out if there is a "big news".
OVTI upgraded . higher in premarket
East Bay,
I think the important part of the NVEC news is the following:
The goal of the DARPA BioMagnetICs program is to demonstrate nanoscale magnetics at the cellular and ultimately molecular level. Under the contract, NVE will develop devices incorporating its proprietary spintronic materials, which are as thin as a few atoms. NVE has fabricated working BioMagnetIC sensors which have been independently tested, completing an important phase of work under the contract. The new phase, which is expected to take approximately one year, will tailor devices for laboratory-on-a-chip applications.
The commercial potential of spintronics has been estimated to be $100 billion per year. BioMagnetIC applications include ultra-miniature biological warfare agent detectors, real-time DNA testers, and laboratory-on-a-chip diagnostic systems.
in edit: read the part where they have COMPLETED AN IMPORTANT PHASE of the CONTRACT.
Train Guy,
"So the time has come to take at least a baby step into a short position. " (excerpted from your post)
It would be my luck to start shorting this AM and they announce Bin Laden's capture. No thanks I'll sit tight thank you very much.
No guts.
Schizophrenic markets yesterday and today should bode well for quite a few here. (g)
Bad Dream Worsens for Short-Sellers

The last 15 months have been a nightmare for short-sellers, as the buoyant equity and bond market has left the sidewalks around Wall Street strewn with injured bears.
While positive price momentum is, by definition, bad for shorts, investors betting against stock prices say the current rally feels different: It's worse. Nevertheless, few are admitting defeat.
Short-sellers, who borrow stocks with the hope of buying them back later at a cheaper price, concede that the breadth of the latest resurgence has made it the roughest time in decades to go against the grain. "This is the most difficult rally for short-sellers since the bull market began in the early 1980s," said Chuck Zender, portfolio manager of the $10 million Grizzly Short Fund, which lost 31% in 2003.
On average, short mutual funds are down 32% over the past year, according to Morningstar. "In other rallies, there have been places to hide, places that weren't doing well," said Zender, referring to upswings in 1994, 1997 and 1998. "But this time around, that does not exist."
Meanwhile, some of the most speculative names -- the ones shorts like most -- have rallied the hardest. The five stocks on the New York Stock Exchange with the largest short positions last December -- Lucent (LU:NYSE - commentary - research), Nortel (NT:NYSE - commentary - research), Sprint PCS (PCS:NYSE - commentary - research), Ford (F:NYSE - commentary - research) and Calpine (CPN:NYSE - commentary - research) -- have risen 122% in the past 12 months, in aggregate.
Since a six-year low set in October 2002, the S&P 500 has surged 48% as investors have poured into a broad array of sectors, including technology, energy, basic materials and industrials.
"A hallmark of this rally has been a lack of selling," said Richard Dickson, a technical analyst at Lowry's Research, adding that his firm's selling-pressure index is at its lowest level in over two and a half years. "That makes it impossible for the shorts to make money."
dances with stocks,
Call Martha for imcl info.
oops I forgot she's in court today.

Dean's 'I Have a Scream' Speech
!
January 21, 2004
Howard Dean? Howard Beale? Or Howard the duck? Who exactly was that guy on TV the other night - with rolled sleeves, pumping fists, unusual rhetorical flourishes ("aaaarrrrggghhhh!") and a command of U.S. geography? ("Connecticut! ... New York! ... ... ... Ohio! ... ")
And loud. Very loud.
In one of the most remarkable concession-non-concession speeches in recent U.S. political history, the former governor of Vermont and Democratic presidential candidate gave supporters and viewers a performance Monday night that was both inspirational and riveting. But also - let's just get this out of the way right now - strange.
In the process, he left this important question hanging: Did he lose or did he win? (And this one too: Is Dr. Dean running for president of the United States, for the part of suicidal anchorman Howard Beale in a remake of the movie "Network" or for commissioner of World Wrestling Entertainment.)
Stowboat,
You sound like that oven mitt ad for Arby's. Take a break man.(vbg)
Say Bye Bye to Gephardt. The Democratic Party attack dog whimpers as he quietly goes away. What a loss but we'll get over it won't we.
Softie,
Statistics on performance of the Nasdaq after the State of the Union speech as follows:
day after down 1%
week after up 3%
month after up 9 1/2%
**OT** MH,
I've profited also from those wonderful African found money deals. Now since I gave them my bank accounts they just dump money in there periodically. It's great and here I thought I was specially selected for some reason but I see you are also a lucky guy. LOL
Moon
Zeev,
Your cynicism is showing . LOL

"Iowa decides Anger,Negativity need not apply!"
Dean had the most but Kerry has the ability to show those traits also. Actually there isn't one candidate there who is worth two cents in my book. None of them can beat Bush with Dean being the most unlikely to beat anyone.
Dean begins his slide to oblivion. Thankyou for saving America Iowa.
Zeev,
Long since 42 on Nvec I have said for ages now that at some point they will have to split this stock. I am patiently waiting afraid not to hold it.
Moon
Bought GWDL this AM and it's off to the races.
jakes dad,
thanks for the heads up,
Orvis
WAVX Anyone know what this action is related to?
Zeev,
I was going to say that you are very conservative in NVEC at $65 and I expect it to blow by there. Then I checked premarket and it was at $65.04.
I still say it's a prime splits candidate and have been long since low 30's and 40's still holding on afraid to sell.
Moon
In edit there were only a small number of shares traded there so it may be brief there.
Zeev,
Josh Wolfe of Lux Capital is on CNBC between 3PM & 5 PM today. I understand he is a big pusher behind NVEC. Hopefully this could bode well for NVEC and perhaps has had some effect on it yesterday.
what's up with axyx?

VoIP Will Drive Nortel's Growth
Forbes Staff , 01.07.04, 2:29 PM ET
Tear Sheet / Chart / News
NEW YORK -
Merrill Lynch raised its rating on Nortel (nyse: NT - news - people ) to "buy" from "neutral" and initiated a 12-month price target of $6.30. Merrill noted that activity in voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) technology has increased substantially in the fourth quarter of 2003 and into 2004. It cited today's Verizon (nyse: VZ - news - people ) announcement that it will use Nortel as its VoIP supplier. The research firm said, "We believe Nortel's dominant share in this segment will become an increasing component of growth for the company." It also said Nortel's strong position in wireless "will yield share gains and translate into top line growth despite our modest expectation for the market as a whole." Merrill said the primary driver is the potential for better gross margins and further operating expense containment.
MH,
I tried to add 2K more axyx at 5.50 and missed it by 2 cents.
Now trading over 6.
hey Bear I gave a headsup on NT premarket. Loaded up yesterday at 4.70's. Sweet timing , I wish all my trades worked this perfect.
Moon
Paul,
Are you referring to axyx?

re: AXYX,
09:36 ET AXYX called #1 near-term idea at Sandler; target $15 4.97 +0.07: Sandler & Co names Axonyx as their #1 idea going into next week's JP Morgan Healthcare conference (co presents on Jan 13), with a $15 target; firm is hearing that not only is the co's Phenserine (for Alzheimers) acting with the highest AChE specificity, but also acts as an APP inhibitor, and they believe that the drug may demonstrate an ability to stop or even reverse the process of Alzheimers, with a superior side effect profile. Also, firm would not be surprised if a major pharmaceutical commercial deal for Phenserine occurs in 1H04.
Nortel selected by Verizon to accelerate building of VoIP network (NT) 4.76:
NT up premarket on upgrade. Chart looks very nice also.

NGEN roaring.
Bruce,
Are you aware that IBZT has a virtual pen also. You can write on paper and transfer that to a pda or computer. I think this virtual aspect will show up in many many new products. It's interesting to see a micro penny stock with so much potential in that area. I bought some yesterday and it looks like it could be strong today again.

***OT****
Stowboat,
What are u paying at the marine pumps?
Moon
Jim,
A war against terrorists can never be unjust. However, there are some people (Quakers for example) who are just anti-war regardless. There are winners in every war and Saddam is an example of a loser.
Having had a career in government I must say there are always bits of information which gets twisted for some reason and then the liberals and anti-government sorts seem to enjoy the nit picking .
Most corporations have one spokesman who issues a very limited amount of news. The government has many spokespersons
for many departments of the government. Those spokespersons are in news conferences sometimes daily. Many times misinformation occurs but not purposely. It creates to some people such as yourself a feeling you are being fed a line.
I do feel that the intent by the government today is not to mislead the general public.
