Pretty cool. There was a similar application called Pronto marketed by I-3 Mobile. Unfortunately, they were bought out and I have not seen them since, even under a new product name. My thoughts are that PaperClick "far and away" exceeds this type of application. I see a possible JV. But don't think it will happen. Its interesting nonetheless. Thanks. All the Best, JP

Thsi is getting very interesting to say the least! I get the feeling that these next few weeks will be big. Look at all the information being diseminated here. Even if sides are being chosen, no matter where you are in the layer or what side you're on, you still have to cross NEOM's bridge, or find another way around it. According to Wooger, Ron Parsons said "alot of companies have tried to buy, steal or do an end-pass around NEOM's patents, but they will all have to pay."
NEOM could very well be sitting back in the drivers seat while the virtual war rages around them, because these companies have to come to them, or be sued. Which choice would you make if you were Apple, MSFT or HP? All the Best, JP

SmartBiz, nice link in post #524. It's going to take me some time to go through it all. It reminds me alot of CoolTown. Yes, this all has to do with SmartMob technology, as you posted about in post #505. Here's a snip-it:
"The technologies that are beginning to make smart mobs possible are mobile communication devices and pervasive computing - inexpensive microprocessors embedded in everyday objects and environments. Already, governments have fallen, youth subcultures have blossomed from Asia to Scandinavia, new industries have been born and older industries have launched furious counterattacks."
The world as we've once known it has changed forever. The future is here and now. There is a communications reveloution underway, and alot of big international players are jockeying for pole position. The revelution huge, it is everywhere all the time. It is ubiquitous and pervasive. Nothing can stop it.
It will be incredible to see how NEOM's patents playout in all of this. Thanks again for sharing your sheer brilliance with us. All the Best, JP

Apple, HP & NEOM...
"What Jobs (Apple) is selling is the iPod platform--the gateway to the iConomy. Meanwhile...Microsoft's 30 hardware partners work against the software giant. As they try to differentiate from direct competitors, they fragment the market and marketing messages Apple excels in delivering with style and elegance."
"By endorsing the iPod, HP hitches a ride to an explosively viral constituency--with powerful ties to another powerful market group, cell phone users. HP gets Apple's R&D budget for free, cachet with the artists, writers, filmmakers and other creative types that produce billions in free media exposure. And HP vaults from No. 2 in the PC market to co-leader in the mobile music space, tying the two platforms together in the process."
"For Apple, HP represents a channel with which to extend their iPod platform--to video via Intel HDTV chips, to phones via Bluetooth and WiFi mesh networks--and to the content industries via a new release platform of videophones, RSS-routed mobile storage and Rendezvous-sharing peer farms on the desktop."

Out of all 4 posts that you've referenced, you nailed it shut on post 445. SmartBiz and I were having a conversation earlier this morning about you. We both agreed that its next to impossible to keep up with you my friend. Man, you can run! Nonetheless, we're here in the race.
SmartBiz's find on Microsoft's Aura technology reads like its NEOM's PaperClick. Just the fact that the Aura article draws parellels with CueCat is stunning, in and of itself. There are too many similarities going on all at the same time across the playing field. And when that happens, pressure builds.
From the MSFT's Aura news article dated 02/14/04:
"Microsoft Research which first created a proto-type for Aura in 2000, more recently developed a reference architecture using Toshiba's e740 Pocket PC with 802.11 wireless access and an attached Socket CF bar-code reader."
MSFT's Aura technology has NEOM written all over it. I wonder if MSFT has been served notice of patent infringement from Baniack and Pine around the same time that Virgin, LScan, ScanBuy and AirClick were originally? I wonder if MSFT is in the cross-hairs of a treble damage suit by NEOM as well, but we just havn't heard about it as of yet; possibly due to the fact that MSFT could very well be negotiating with NEOM at this very moment. So, I agree with you whole-heartedly that several deals are likely on the table for execution.
Also, you are dead right when you say: "Information just can't be contained when things are getting done on a number of fronts." We are at Critical Mass and have been for a while now. The end result of this is a shift, similar to techtonic plates. Once the shift is engaged, the energy involved does not return to its original position; its forever.
Yes, I can also see how other revenue streams could have been generated in-house to close the gap on the CSI deal without encumbering outside funding. Albeit, I can see how there would be incentives for an outsider to want to participate via loan proceeds or stock issuance.
Ron Parson of SRP is swinging a big bat up in Washington DC. His connections are with the top brass, as we all know. We're due for some very favorable news from his camp as well.
There is soo much going on at once, it is difficult at best to keep track of it all. The news velocity factor as well as the puzzle pieces now show the true picture of NEOM's future today. Its called energy. We all know and feel it. It is the same energy which propels us forward to continue doing what we are doing collectively. Its the same energy that moves a shooting star across the night sky or makes a blade of grass grow from a seed or a baby from an embryo. All the Best, JP

"We get by with a little help from our friends"...
NEOM Overview: Two worlds apart need some way to find each other. The best way is by having unique identifiers or tags in the physical world relate to things in the other world (electronic world). NEOM is the bridge between each.
The best analogy is the telephone system and its evolution. When the telephone system first came out you had many operators who took the calls and connected you via a patch panel. So when you wanted to get connected to "Joe's Bar and Grill" you would ask the operator to connect you there. Basically the internet grew up with this model. You "rang" the operators (they happen to be called Google, Yahoo, Lycos, etc.) and put in where you wanted to go and up came the patch panel that gave you all of the connections. The problem is that is a very poor model for find information that is easy and relevant. Google has been so successful because it does not deliver you to a home page but drills down to content if it can find it. That model of navigating the web has many problems. 1. People abandon the model for closing a transaction (like buying things, etc.) it is way to hard and too many clicks to the content, 2. it is now proven that people are impatient and will not get to relevant content if it is too deep in a site. If 100 people are delivered to a Home Page, only half will take the first click, then half of those will take the second click and so on. So most content is buried down 5-8 levels deep in a site. Bad model.
What NEOM does is act like the new phone system. NEOM dial tone to the physical world with a single click (like a phone number is dialed and you get connected no operators involved), and you get to the content.
NEOM basically uses the Unique identifiers (barcodes, numbers, RFID's and many more to come), to make that single click happen. NEOM does not care what device is used. So Camera phones are one device that will be ubiquitous. So NEOM is riding that curve. The camera phone will be like a remote control to the physical world. Get the book Smart Mobs by Harold Reingold. It will really help you understand where this is going. By the way, a barcode is like "speed dial" for the phone. NEOM then can do 4 things on this single click concept.
1. NEOM tracks each click and even the names (all under permission)
2. NEOM can personalize a click to your preferences if you give them to us. So if you want Spanish as the default we can help the content deliver Spanish etc.
3. NEOM can authorize clicks
4. NEOM authenticate's that which you are clicking on; is really what you believe it is (ie. a knock off Gucci bag, or even prescription drugs would qualify). This is why NEOM bought SST.
By the way, one of the reasons NEOM bought CSI is they have tremendous access to some Unique Identifiers (VIN numbers for autos).
Hope some or all of this helps. Smile

Nice catch. That says quite alot about the concern that Chas Fritz & Chuck Jensen genuinely feel towards NEOM's shareholders, even if the PR was from October, 2000.
The internet bubble caused for alot of grief and despair; high unemployment, corporate bankruptcies, huge financial losses and a $100 Mil. dollar deal with Digital Convergence Deal which ultimately went South.
The magnitude of another +$100Mil. dollar deal today would Rock & Roll this stock; the likes of which we can probably
only imagine.
I along with most others here feel that the possibility of a similar PR is within Arms Reach and just around the corner. The day that an announce like this is announced, the stock will open well over a dollar and will never look back.

Greg, if I jumped to conclussions regarding your posts, I sincerely apologize. Your handle was picked-up by one of our board members as being that of Jeftro from RB message boards. It appeared to me that your approach here was synonymous with that of Jeftro's over at RB. We longs at I-Hub are stone-cold serious about our investments in NEOM. Most of us hold large blocks of shares. Simply put, we got to a point of being sick and tired of dealing all the nonsense orchestrated by the bashers on RB, one of which was Jeftro.
Please excuse me. I will try to re-establish your link on I-Hub. Sorry, and wishing you...All the Best, JP

Great post. You've put the future PR road-map together very nicely. Well done. All the Best, JP
Patent infringement notifications...
Personalizit, you got me thinking about the PR you referenced below:
"BP&G partner Jeffrey A. Pine said his firm has identified and obtained product literature and other information about hardware, software and systems vendors who would be motivated licensees of NeoMedia's patented technologies."
One could also read this as they have obtained a list of vendors who may already be in violation or who have definitively infringed upon NEOM's patent.
Think about this. All current plantiffs (Virgin, L-Scan, ScanBar and AirClick) were "previously issued" written notifications from Baniack & Pine regarding patent infringements. This is the reason why NEOM is seeking treble damages as well as cease and decist orders...because they were all forwarned and none of them responded.
I wonder how many other hardware, software and systems vendors have been issued notices from Baniack & Pine that we have not heard about yet? It could be a whole "data base" worth as alleged in the PR above. I suspect there will be a host of treble damage suits to be filed in the near future.
All we need is a "LandMark" suit (specifically NEOM vs. Virgin) in which NEOM wins hands-down, provided it isn't an out of court settlement. Then all subsequent suits will refer back to the recorded LandMark suit as a barometer in gauging how to intrepret or decipher the law for these specific patent infringements.
I believe these rulings will be in favor of the plantiff (NEOM) and against all other defendants including LScan, AirClick, ScanBar, VeriSign, etc. You got to love this stuff. All the Best, JP

The Missing Link...
From SmartBiz: Virgin Bets on Device to Lure Shoppers
Sat Feb 7, 5:24 PM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!
By Sarah Han
NEW YORK (Billboard) - With consumers increasingly turning to the Internet to buy music, retailers are using creative strategies to bring them back to the physical shopping experience.
That was Virgin Entertainment Group's intent when, in December, it made the MusiKube personal music guide (PMG) available in its Virgin Megastore in San Francisco. New York-based MusiKube is planning to expand the device's availability in VEG's U.K. stores, as well as in other U.S. chains, VP of marketing Sunjay Guleria says.
The PMG is a portable handset that enables consumers to roam the store and sample 30-second clips of albums by scanning their bar codes. The wireless kiosk uses a customized Hewlett-Packard iPAQ and in-store Wi-Fi connectivity. There is no charge to customers using the device.
MusiKube personalizes the shopping experience by maintaining a database of users' musical preferences. The device offers recommendations based on the music the customer scans while browsing through the store.
"Instituting a personalized, mobile angle is what we're all about. We provide all the features of an online retailer -- in a store," MusiKube COO Mike Pears says. "So you have history, recommendation and ability to listen to everything. It's the new way for retailers to build a relationship with consumers."
The system remembers user activity and encompasses licensed samples of more than 2 million individual song tracks provided by Muze.
Muze, the database behind iTunes, carries 260,000 album titles, with 3,000 titles added every month. According to a Muze spokesperson, it obtains its data legally, directly from the labels. There is no charge for labels and artists to be added to the Muze database.
VEG is optimistic that the personalized shopping experience eventually will help boost sales. "It gives consumers a reason to visit the stores by making it a bit more interesting and exciting. That's what we need in retail today," says Dave Alder, VEG senior VP of product and marketing.
So has Virgin found sales success with this innovative device?
Although he declined to provide specific numbers, Alder says, "The general conversion figures have been positive."

See the connection buddy?
Answer: JPetroInc: Virgin's PMG...
SmartBiz, where did you find that post? IMO, that post is gateway to all that is about to unfold. Virgin is actively working with HP. MuziKube is the O/S for VEG's PMG's. MuziKube is also the O/S behind I-Tunes.
Remember when Retired was pointing out the fact that there was an installer behind VEG's kiosk scanners which are in fact Hewlett-Packard iPAQ's, working on in-store Wi-Fi connectivity. He mentioned 3. One was Symbol and the other was Muze. I forget the third. He was talking about an indemnification between the O/S provider and Virgin. Well guess what, he hit it right on the head. The O/s is not Symbols, but rather Muze. So, its Muze's O/S working on Hewlett Packards IPAC handheld hardware. Muze has some clout with Virgin and as well as I-Tunes. This is just the tip of the iceberg my friend.
Virgin is an end-user of NEOM's technology. Muze is the O/S. NEOM can not sue Muze directly because they have no claim against them unless there is evidence that NEOM's patents were infringed upon. Hence, they sue Virgin because Virgin is deploying NEOM's technology in their stores. With Muze's O/S, HP is providing the hardware vehicle linking the real world to the internet. HP just maybe the variable in this equation that fits perfectly with the description of the still unannounced US Agent. Here we were postulating it could be Microsoft or Apple. Think about it, this has NEOM written all over it!

Man-o-man, we've got some serious people on this thread. I did not mean to "up-stage" you by forwarding your link to Chas & Chuck. Great catch on your part. Keep up the good work. I genuinely feel we are going to see some fantastic things unfold here in the very near future with their Go To Market campaign strategy. All the Best, JP

Regarding the possibility that NEOM may have recieved private funding to assist with their CSI acquisition, I'm wondering if a few microcap companies have come in to play. Look at Energy and Engine, a stock that has been on my radar screen for quite some time. They did exactly that this past Monday and look at them fly:
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040209/dam040_1.html
Also, with NEOM publicising in a recent PR that they will be recieving coverage, microcap investment firms taking a position in NEON seems to make sense. All the Best, JP
