Gen. George -- first paragraph....ROTFLMAO !!!
second paragraph ~~~~~~ "gold standard post" !!!
Tx. EZ :)
Mark/Tin - I can add to Buffet discussion....and it also underlines what I just said in previous post IE: gamesmanship.
First, not but a few days ago..articles hit the air that Buffet "would not be buying anything right now"!! Well, full disclosure DOES work....reported today, he just took significant positions in GAP and WellsFargo....and I believe UGI !!! Hmmmmmmm....looks like ONE of the BIGGEST boys is buying ---- hmmmmmmmmm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
OT: Mark - It would make more tangible sense to know WHAT board that msg. came from....but, suffice to say in these tough mkt. conditions could be from "about any board". Although I "do not" agree with every word (call it DUMB if you like :)~~~~~ what I do believe is it's just going to be a tough 2nd quarter (hopefully NOT as bad as Q1) and the general market is going to feel the pain. Just think about what's happened in a VERY SHORT period of time...............
1. 1998/1999 "euphoria" in the mkt. led by TECH 'bubble'
2. sustained economic/personal financial growth for 10+ yrs.
3. late 1999 - 2000 'bubble burst' >>>> OUCH !!
4. markets begin to tank....culminated in the worst qtr. in
recent history RE: Q1 (every major MUTUAL FUND in tank!!)
5. new administration w/ all of the election nightmares.
6. 2001 ------- financial nightmares from the git-go !!!!
7. navy sub sinks Japanese research boat
8. WTO talks extend ad infinitum
9. Greenspan does not "curtsy" to Wall Street !!
10. SPY PLANE DOWN in China !!!!!!!!!!! :(
There are other things which could be added, no doubt. But, (hate that word) ----- there is also some "major" gamesmanship going on right now also ----- MD7 posted a VERY viable article just a bit ago. It's a "sign" of things to come...."history" will repeat itself...on the markets ------ let's hope what appears to be an EXTENDED timeline for many things today....like other things now in retrospect.....turn out to be shorter than we're thinking right now w/ ** see above list.
Wow....may be my 'windy-i-est' msg. (no applause pleEZ) :)
NOTE: this is a repost from another board...but, I thought it "captured" what is becoming a watershed of market/economic doom and gloom ==== THIS IS NOT from "any HRCT board" !!! FWIW--
The Great Depression is almost here...
People dont realize it yet but the market is about a month away from completely crashing. The Nasdaq will go under 1000 in less than a month. The Dow will slip to 8000. At that point everything will crash.
What technical analysis tools am I using to support this? None. Since TA is useless right now. In fact the only time that nonsense works is when people believe and are willing to buy which is not right now. In fact people are selling.
And what I love are the analysts and brokers lying to everyone and telling them the bad news is over. It is not.
It is only about to begin.
I honestly regret putting my money in the market and in listening to any, any advice I've heard since then from anyone relating to the equities. No one on this board or on Wall Street knows anything because there is nothing to know: this game is called gambling pure and simple.
My mistake was in listening to the lies and BS of a million and one people. I learned a valuable lesson about naivete. Indeed Ive learned a million and one lessons about life.
Still, those of you here on this board are some of the brightest people on this site. And for my money some of you XXXXXXXXXXXXX know more about what is going on than most brokers.
If it sounds like Im bitching it is because I am. My life is perfect right now except for this bs and it is my hope one day to recover my money and get out of this mess I somehow put myself in.
MD7/Mark/Cabby - Is it at all possible that the "new" full
disclosure mandates come into play at all with this ie. news and/or lack of......until officially announced ?? EZ
OT: In spite of market conditions, devoid of investor confidence, fraught w/ business earnings warnings ==== the WORLD goes on...business continues to expand....in OUR neighborhood >CHINA.
This is just one example of it ~~~~~

Is It Really Any Wonder That the Chinese Are Sore Over Spy Plane?
It's hardly surprising Beijing hasn't rushed to hand over a U.S. spy plane and its 24-man crew involved in a mid-air collision with a Chinese air force fighter on Sunday. To understand why, flip the script for a moment: Imagine a Chinese plane flying a surveillance mission off the Florida coast colliding with an Air Force F-16 sent on an aggressive monitoring mission. The U.S. fighter goes down and the pilot is lost; the Chinese plane is forced to land on U.S. soil. The incident occurs at a moment when China is about to supply a package of sophisticated weapons to Cuba (possibly including the very same model spy plane now in U.S. hands); is planning to deploy a missile shield that would neutralize the U.S. nuclear arsenal; and has signaled that curbing U.S. regional ambitions is to become the organizing principle of its military doctrine. Imagine further that the incident comes two years after Chinese bombs had destroyed (albeit inadvertently) a U.S. embassy in Europe... It's unlikely Americans would feel in a particularly forgiving mood, either.
Still, both in its more aggressive response to U.S. patrols around its airspace and in its detention of the downed surveillance plane, China — or at least some hawkish elements in the Chinese leadership — appear set on playing hard ball. Although China's announcement Monday that it would grant the U.S. access to the detained personnel appeared to signal that there are limits as to how far Beijing wants to push President Bush into a crisis, the fact that Chinese sources reported that the plane had been boarded in defiance of the U.S. insistence that it is sovereign territory suggests a more provocative stance.
The air crash in the South China Sea couldn't have come at a worse time for the President, precisely because relations between Washington and Beijing have been deteriorating over the U.S. plan to build a national missile defense system and, more immediately, its proposed sale of destroyers equipped with the sophisticated Aegis anti-missile system to Taiwan. Comments by Bush administration hawks — most notably Defense Secretary Rumsfeld's recommendation that containing China become the strategic focus of U.S. military doctrine — have done little to sweeten the atmosphere in which U.S. diplomats must now persuade their Chinese counterparts to hand back the crew and the plane. Taking a look around the plane will certainly be tempting to the Chinese military, since the EP-3 is on Taiwan's shopping list.
OT: Chinese board U.S. plane, take gear
From CNN
HONG KONG, China -- Chinese military officials have boarded a grounded U.S. surveillance plane and removed equipment from it despite U.S. protests.
In a signal that a standoff between the two nations is not likely to end soon, Pentagon sources told CNN on Tuesday that China had begun removing sensitive eavesdropping equipment from the plane.
They added that this did not bode well for getting the plane back soon.
The United States considers the plane sovereign territory that should not be boarded by Chinese soldiers.
Pentagon officials also said that if China does not release the 24 crew members soon, it is hard not to consider them hostages.
The fate of the U.S. crew members, now in their third day of captivity on the Chinese island of Hainan, has yet to be determined.
U.S. officials are preparing to meet with the crew in the Hainan Island capital of Haikou. The crew were last heard from shortly after the emergency landing Sunday on Hainan, following a mid-air collision with a Chinese fighter, one of two that had been trailing it.
A U.S. official has said the next several hours -- into Tuesday evening Washington time -- would be critical in determining the course of the standoff, and whether it would cause any lasting damage to U.S.-China relations.
"Our people need to see the crew and need to see them soon," this official said.
President George W. Bush on Monday demanded immediate access to the crew and the return of the top-secret surveillance aircraft.
China says it is the 'victim'
In its defense China said on Tuesday it is the "victim" in the spy plane standoff.
China has asserted a right to inspect the sophisticated aircraft and called on the United States to end surveillance flights off its coast.
China has accused the U.S. EP-3E plane of veering into one of two F-8 fighters on an interception mission 60 miles south of Hainan in international air space.
"We have sufficient evidence," Jiang told the visiting Prime Minister of Qatar, Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
The United States must "bear full responsibility," the official Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying.
Jiang said the United States should stop such flights, saying this would be "conducive to the development of the China-U.S. relationship."
An accident
The United States says the collision was an accident and the plane was on a routine surveillance mission in international air space.
The Bush administration says it has no plans to apologize to China and is playing down Beijing's call for an apology, a U.S. official said. Jiang's comments intensify the verbal skirmish between China and the U.S., which has further strained relations between the two.
U.S. president George W. Bush has already complained about the lack of information flowing from China and has demanded the immediate return of the plane and its crew. (Transcript of Bush's remarks)
Meanwhile, three U.S. warships have been ordered to move out of the South China Sea area after U.S. officials said China had rejected offers of help to locate the missing Chinese fighter pilot.
'Not happy'
The U.S. expects to make its first contact on Tuesday night local time with the spy plane's crew.
"We expect to see the crew tonight but we are not happy it has taken 60 hours [to gain access]," said U.S. ambassador to China, Joseph Prueher.
Five U.S. diplomats have arrived in the Hainan Island capital of Haikou, where Chinese officials have told them a meeting will take place with the crew of the U.S. propeller-powered plane, roughly the same size as a Boeing 737.
The third member of the U.S. diplomatic negotiating team remains at the Gloria Resort on Hainan Island's southern tip, in the event of a change in circumstances.
The crew of the stricken spy plane has been in Chinese custody since the collision, which occurred over the South China Sea about 100km southeast of Hainan Island.
China's Foreign Ministry spokesman says U.S. crew members are safe
Reports have said the U.S. crew was taken off the plane, with a Chinese source telling CNN they were being held individually, but did not say where or under what conditions.
Bush 'troubled'
President Bush has said he was "troubled" by China's response to the incident and called for "immediate access" to the crew.
The midair collision made news in Chinese newspapers Monday
Twice within an hour on Monday, he called for a release of the plane "without any further tampering."
The U.S. ambassador to China, Adm. Joseph Prueher, said he believed Chinese officials had been "all over" the U.S. plane, which is a potential intelligence treasure trove. (More on the equipment)
He said the crew was trained to destroy sensitive materials in the event of an unplanned landing, but it was unclear how successful they might have been.
"We think that they, at least, started on some destruction of the material on the aircraft," he said.
But a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said China had every right to examine the incident because the U.S. spy plane "rammed a Chinese plane in the air," then entered Chinese air space without permission and landed on a Chinese airport.
Military analysts say the plane could still reveal secrets about what kind of information the U.S. military is collecting and how that data is processed.
Slow response not unusual
U.S. officials were growing increasingly frustrated as the hours dragged by without contact with the crew, last heard from shortly after they landed in Hainan when they radioed that armed Chinese soldiers were boarding the plane.
While U.S. officials have complained that China is slow in responding to diplomatic contacts, it's not unusual for China's bureaucratic system to take a long time to make decisions, especially where the military or national security concerns are involved.
The collision comes at a sensitive time for US-China relations, ahead of the new Bush administration having to decide on possible arms sales to Taiwan, which China considers a renegade province.
Navy planes routinely fly off China's southeastern coast to monitor military activity, especially any that might threaten Taiwan, and they often are shadowed by Chinese fighter planes.
China also opposes Bush's advocacy of a missile-defense system and has adamantly opposed Taiwan's request to the United States for the sale of four destroyers equipped with the Navy's most advanced anti-missile radar system. Bush was nearing a final decision on the sale of the destroyers and other military hardware to Taiwan and was expected to announce his decision within a few weeks.

EZ,
I defintely understand your concern. Our data center is completely built. It is undergoing stress tests as we speak.
It is literally a matter of a few days before we can use the new equipment and all of the speed problems will be gone.
So just hang in there. And keep in mind this is a BETA test so things like this are likely to happen. You will definitely like the end product as soon as this process is over.
I know this has been a long, delayed, drawn out process, but it is very close to being done.

OT: Microsoft shuts Windows on Bluetooth support
By Will Wade
EE Times
(04/01/01, 1:58 p.m. EST)
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Microsoft Corp. will not support Bluetooth in the next major version of Windows, executives said this week, portraying the technology as not ready for prime time. Nor will Windows XP, a version of the operating system aimed broadly at consumer and business users, adopt the emerging HomeRF wireless local-area network standard. XP instead will use 802.11, which company managers see as taking off rapidly.
"I don't think the maturity of Bluetooth technology is good enough to ship the bits when Windows XP is released," said Carl Stork, general manager of Microsoft's Windows division, speaking in an interview at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) here. "We wouldn't want to ship something that doesn't work, and Bluetooth doesn't yet meet a certain quality level."
The lack of native Bluetooth support in Windows won't prevent PC, notebook and handheld-device makers from building Bluetooth-capable systems. But it will add complexity to the process and could open the door to a greater diversity of implementations. That, in turn, conjures the prospect of product incompatibility.
The news from Microsoft comes on the heels of a highly publicized flop at the recent CeBIT trade show in Hannover, Germany, when 100 Bluetooth transmitters equipped with the short-range radio technology failed to transform a convention hall into a wireless data network for visitors with palmtop computers.
The difficulty in what was billed as the largest demo of Bluetooth to date appeared to stem from the use of different versions of protocols and the high concentration of devices seeking access to one network.
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group rolled out a revised version 1.1 of the specification in early March.
"We were trying to give the public a demonstration using a technology in its infancy, with most [modules] at the prototype stage. That took guts," said Yuval Ben Ze'ev, chief executive officer of Brightcom Technologies Ltd. (Rosh Haayin, Israel), a Bluetooth chip and software developer.
With a range of about 10 meters and speeds limited to roughly 1 Mbit/second, Bluetooth initially is designed as a replacement for the rat's nest of cables that are used to connect handheld computers, PCs and cellular phones.
"Even if [version] 1.1 solves current issues it's pretty much immediately obvious Bluetooth is being stretched in ways not envisaged," said Paul Hollingworth, European marketing director for Altera Corp. (San Jose, Calif.).
Very few Bluetooth devices are actually ready for deployment and the format still seems to have some bugs in it, Microsoft's Stork said. "It looks like Bluetooth is not ready for prime time."
Lack of Windows support may not substantially harm the eventual rollout of Bluetooth, said Steve Andler, vice president of marketing for Toshiba America Information Systems, one of the largest notebook computer makers.
"Microsoft's decision is unfortunate, but it won't change anything," Andler said.
"It will require more resources for us to do our own software driver stacks, but we were going to do this anyway" for other operating systems.
Tassos Markas, director of multimedia at Atmel Corp. (San Jose), which makes Bluetooth silicon, agreed. "We develop our own software stacks [for Bluetooth] and work with customers who do as well," Markas said. "We've been very successful in the past with 802.11 without direct support from Windows."
But supporting Bluetooth involves more than device drivers. Because 802.11 uses the Internet Protocol (IP) for communications, it can rely on IP systems services in the operating system. Bluetooth, however, does not use IP, and thus must rely on application-level support for communications.
"The bottom line is there are still technical issues to be resolved with Bluetooth," said a spokesman for Conexant Systems Inc., which makes Bluetooth devices by virtue of its acquisition of Philsar.
Indeed, "There's still a lot of work to be done," said Martin Reynolds, vice president and research fellow for market research house Gartner Dataquest (San Jose). For Bluetooth to take off, he said, it must be implemented in all the equipment it is designed to link for less than the cost of the cables. "The cost for Bluetooth silicon has to come down to almost zero, and while there has been a lot of progress, we're not there yet." Reynolds expects to see Bluetooth deployments take off in about three to five years.
Another issue that must be considered is interference, since both Bluetooth and the 802.11b wireless LAN transmit in the 2.4-GHz band. "In theory the interference can be pretty bad," said Tom Siep, a member of the technical staff at Texas Instruments Inc.'s wireless communications business unit in Dallas. "But in practice it's not so bad."
Although having two antennas in close proximity can be a problem, Siep said that most users won't actually place the two systems next to each other. When interference does occur, it manifests itself as slower transmission rather than a broken connection. Users are already conditioned to accept this, Siep said. It's the same problem that occurs with analog modems that sometimes connect at 33 kbits/second and sometimes at 28 kbits/s, and Siep believes consumers will be willing to live with the same experience in their wireless networks.
Nonetheless, the IEEE has created a working group to wrestle with coexistence issues, because all signs point to a world with both 802.11b and Bluetooth. "There is a place for both formats," Siep said. "They should, and must, work together."
Siep is more optimistic than some about the future of Bluetooth, noting that several silicon vendors have products now, and some single-chip implementations are in the works. "I think Bluetooth is coming, this year," he said.
TI produces chips for both Bluetooth and wireless-Ethernet systems. And Siep was pleased to hear that Microsoft will incorporating 802.11b into Windows XP. "If the PC market embraces the technology, that means a lot more sockets for us," he said.
Stork left the door open to including Bluetooth in upcoming releases of Windows. "It can be turned on without a full OS release. We might include it in a Windows update," he said. However, Microsoft has a policy against adding new features in so-called service packs, intended as interim fixes between major annual releases of the operating system.
Wireless LAN gets nod
Along with the first use of Internet Explorer 6 and integrated digital audio capabilities, Windows XP will support the second generation of the wireless Ethernet standard, 802.11b, offering speeds of about 11 Mbits/s and a range of about 100 meters. Although the spec was completed only within the past few years, its rapid deployment caught the eye of Microsoft engineers.
"We thought it would take several years for the 802.11b format to catch on," said Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect for the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant. "We've been incredibly surprised by how quickly it has taken off."
Indeed, not only are there numerous products in the marketplace for creating 802.11b networks, the technology is also moving into the public space. Several major U.S. airports have installed data nodes so business travelers with an 802.11b networking card can link up to the Internet while waiting for their planes. Among them are Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in New York, and San Jose International Airport. Starbucks coffee shops also have the technology in some sites, and the WinHEC organizers even installed an 802.11b network here at the Anaheim Convention Center for the duration of the conference.
"We've made a fairly big bet on support for 802.11b," said Stork. He said Microsoft evaluated several wireless-networking formats before deciding on 802.11b, but the technology seems to be stable and demand is healthy. "Our corporate customers have been asking for this, and today it's pretty clear that 802.11b is the dominant format," Stork said.
With the technology included in the operating system, Stork said that 802.11b-equipped computers could automatically recognize the presence of a wireless-networking node, and then reconfigure themselves to communicate with that net. "You should be able to walk into any environment and the machine will self-configure so you can start working," he said.
Microsoft's corporate vision for the technology includes wireless Ethernet networking in both the home and the office, a view that until very recently would have been strongly challenged by Intel Corp. The microprocessor vendor had been pushing 802.11b networks in the corporate world and a less expensive — and incompatible — format, HomeRF, for the consumer world.
However, in recent weeks, Intel has reversed its position and now supports 802.11b for both the corporate and home environments. Since Intel was one of the main drivers for HomeRF, that decision that could mean the end of that technology, some industry watchers believe.
"The reason Intel turned away from HomeRF is because 802.11b has become so prevalent," said Reynolds of Dataquest. "Wireless Ethernet has come from behind to become a compelling low-end networking alternative."
On to 10 Mbits
Wireless Ethernet took off when the spec hit 11 Mbits/s, and HomeRF 2.0 could do the same when it comes out this summer at 10 Mbits/s (up from 1.6 Mbits/s), said Wayne Caswell, HomeRF marketing manager at Siemens. In addition, HomeRF supports multimedia such as voice, audio and video and, unlike 802.11b, has interference protection for home microwaves and cordless phones, he added.
Dataquest estimates that as many as 15 to 20 percent of U.S. businesses are using 802.11b networks today, and said the figure could jump to 50 percent by next year. By 2003, the company is predicting 50 percent penetration into public spaces, and in the following year Dataquest expects to see more than half the homes in the United States using wireless Ethernet.
The second beta version of Windows XP was made available at WinHEC, and was also placed on the Internet for downloading. It is scheduled for commercial release late this year or early in 2002, and is aimed at both the home user and the commercial space.
This will be an important step, since it will allow Microsoft to target two key markets with the same product. "This will be the most important release of Windows since Windows 95," said Gates.

marshell - I think it's a good question. Perhaps someone who attended the Boca mtg. may have some addtl. perspective...but, it sounds to me that "timing" was in fact the bigger issue ie.
excerpts from financial statement below:
Mr. Manu Ohri, Hartcourt's Chief Financial Officer stated, ``Because of various investment
banking activities that the company was negotiating during the fourth quarter, we could not
consolidate the statements of operations of any additional revenue generating holdings in
Greater China prior to closing the books for fiscal year 2000. Had this additional revenue been
available, Hartcourt would have reported significantly higher sales figures.''
``I also would like to point out that approximately $3,700,000 of the stated losses for 2000 were
from non-recurring events. These events primarily include the write down of $2,500,000 of
marketable securities the company acquired in GoCall Inc. in 1999, and the write-off a note
receivable from an unrelated entity in the amount of $225,000,'' said Ohri.
Anyone read this differently ????? EZ
Yea !!! Numbers look like we had expected following feedback for Roadshow meetings......but, at least we got the filing done ON TIME ~~~~ that, I believe, is a MAJOR accomplishment!!
Now...let's see if the investing population can see the "future". EZ
Mark - the potential merger info posted on RB CHAG board continues to sound intriguing. I hope we see the LIVE ACTION on the field(s) soon...think that will immediately lift spirit of investors. OT: sorry to hear some others may decide to leave HRCT...hope they make the right decision for themselves.
(note: post was left on HRCT board incriminating you for your SELL on Friday ~~~ it "was" removed) EZ
husker - couple of post from RB regarding merger rumors:

OT: 68_shovel ~~ very candidly, I hope you'll stick around and ADD some of your great stuff to the board. EZ
repost ~~~~~ Just food for thought!
People who come from other boards where bashing and personal attacks are allowed are sometimes slow to come around to the Ihub way of posting. That is specifically, when you post forget attacking the content of the post or the way the content is presented. If you don't like what you read, forget it, move on with your own contribution to the boards purpose. Here at Ihub you will enjoy that fact that you will not be attacked by anyone, nor will you be allowed to attack anyone, it's policy, get used to it, and stop with the comments about bashers, idiots, and the like that you knew from another board.

Mark ~ THANKS for looking in on the CHAG / iHUB board. I'm sure husker will keep an eye on both...however, if it gets like the HRCT board...pls. encourage some of the others to at least check it out. THANKS!! EZ
My closing post for the day (gotta rest for tomorrow).....
I'm anticipating a potential BARRAGE of "basher" posts on this board tomorrow...and maybe...for a few days. I do not think they'll go away EZily ~~~~ however, we will do our best to keep the board active, beneficial and yes, at times controversial.
Finally, thanks for 'patience' with slowness of system...let's see if iHUB can keep pace with the speedy HRCT'rs !! EZ :)
Sino - I can assure you neither myself nor Tin-Berrygood have intent to be judge/jury on this board. The jury sits with everyone on this board ~~~ already made that clear. The initial msg's. removed were at the request of several board members via private mail messages to me. In retrospect, there was not one recommendation that I (personally) did not agree with....ah, isn't consensus great !! The purpose of this board (stated in iBOX) is simple and straightforward ~~~ I think we will find...ultimately...a high level of attainment.

MD7 / TENNISSTUD - I find both posts on "delayed" IPO listings to be not only interesting...but, very timely to SA subject matter. TSTUD..was wondering if there was any discussion -- formal/informal -- @ Boca mtg. regarding this? I understand clearly what was communicated regarding the SA/ipo plan...but, any "chat" on how that market (GEM) and other companies are reacting right now??

REPOST ~~ general iHUB board info..........
** Some general info on iHUB board **
First, once again, THANKS to all who've taken the time to come over here...look...and "participate" !! It has been "unbelieveably encouraging" to see posts from longterm shareholders who've been discouraged w/ the RB board crap...and have come over here for a more quality dialogue !! Several new names popping up......and......we have already gotten interest from several of the "Investment Clubs" who are here on iHUB. Later on, I will post some of the links to those who have sent me email messages. Now....to the subject at hand ---- last night --Matt-- the iHUB administrator dropped a note on the HRCT board. Make sure you view it. I also know that they are working...as I type...on some enhancements / new bells/whistles / speed, etc. to the site. I would expect as early as next week you'll notice some BIG things. I would also encourage you (when you have time) to just wonder around the site a bit. You have a 'MailBox' option in the upper toolbar...check it often for public and/or private mail msgs.!!
"Surf On" !!!! EZ
lynn - came out fine !! Looks like you got it mastered pretty
quickly :)
VERY IMPORTANT -- TO EVERYONE >>
You will now see some (actually you won't see them)...post which have been "removed". It is NOT going to be tolerated. Review the iBOX objectives...peruse the intent of investorHUB also.
We expect to meet the objectives of this HRCT board (in iBOX ) and msgs. deemed outside of parameters will be "removed". Friend and Foe alike ~~~~ let's keep it "content" w/ "quality"!!
Thanks !!
