Cannabis producer Aphria is going bananas after report says Green Growth is planning a $2.1 billion hostile takeover offer (APHA)

Aphria, the Canadian cannabis producer, soared after-hours on Thursday following a report Green Growth Brands was planning a hostile takeover offer for the company.
The deal would value Aphria at $2.1 billion, according to the Bloomberg report.

Shares of Canadian cannabis producer Aphria soared by more than 20% late Thursday on the heels of a report that Green Growth Brands, a US-based marijuana grower, was planning a hostile takeover offer for the company.
The deal would value Aphria at 2.8 billion Canadian dollars ($2.1 billion), according to the Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter. Aphria's market cap at the end of Thursday's trading session was $1.39 billion, according to Bloomberg data.
Aphria shares have plunged since debuting in early November on the New York Stock Exchange. The stock crashed earlier this month after short-seller Quintessential Capital Management's Hindenburg Research alleged the company was a "shell game with a cannabis business on the side."



Aphria responded to the short seller in a press release, calling the allegations a "malicious and self-serving attempt" at manipulating its stock price.
Its short interest, meanwhile, is small compared to that of its US-listed peer, Tilray. Aphria's US-listed shares' short interest as a percent of float is 11%, according to financial-analytics firm S3 Partners. By comparison, Tilray's short interest is 34% of its float.

I have long wondered about who writes the talking points that keep Democrats reading from the same script. That person – or more likely, persons – evidently issues instructions that the office holder branch and the journalist branch of the Democratic Party mimic in their public statements. But in order to appear slightly authentic, they are supposed to speak extemporaneously and make it appear that they all came up with the phrases-of-the-day spontaneously. This works for interviews with print and television journalists, but the rise of Twitter has introduced new danger of exposure. Now we have proof that the current ostensible leaders of the Democrats’ party are often just actors reading from scripts supplied to them by people hidden from public scrutiny. Christmas Eve saw the presumptive new Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi issue a tweet that was identical, word-for-word, to one issued 23 minutes earlier by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Needless to say, the mainstream media takes no interest at all in the process by which Democrats achieve what is euphemistically called “message discipline.” The notion that there is a command center that instructs Democrat office holders what to say each day is certainly an important subject, for the identities of those staffing the command center determines a large portion of our national political dialogue. Who pays these people, whoever they are? Who selects them to put words in the mouths and twitter accounts of people that supposedly represent their constituents?

AUSTIN — Two days after Christmas, a total of eight fire trucks, 39 firefighters, an ambulance and a commander responded to an Austin creek when a woman called 911 saying her car had been swept up in high floodwaters.

She's now calling the firefighters who rescued her "real life angels."

Julie Roush-Butler -- a Temple nurse who was staying in Austin to pet sit -- said she was coming from Loop 360 when she came upon Spicewood Springs Road. Her car -- along with a second vehicle -- were washed away in the high water.




"Like everybody that goes over a low water crossing, it was not very wide, and it was dark -- very late. And it wasn’t raining. And I’ve crossed over that (road) many times," Roush-Butler said. "But man, all of the sudden, I got about half way across and it just started floating."

She then made the call.

"I tried to call my sister-in-law first. As I’m calling her, I’m thinking, 'Call 911,'" she laughed.

After crews arrived, they found her standing on the roof of her vehicle about a quarter mile downstream.

Indeed...we didn't get the Tornadoes we were watching for...I don't think...at least when I woke up I could see the ceiling and not stars...so thats positive...HEAVY storms with winds lashing though...good sleeping weather...we had over 3 inches at my house.

A White Christmas is something I have missed since we moved to Austin in 72...miss it after the ones we experienced at Ft. Knox Ky and Germany...now Germany...it would make EZ cry for Summer...we had snow over my head...
