Interesting question - do not know the answer. Do know that China and Malaysia are generally the cheapest places to manufacture solar.
Could be just for personal reasons.
Could be that SLTD is expanding into Nevada.
OK I am here too.
I am NOT excited but the SLTD board is - well you know whats happening there - all pain and no pleasure - seems like the only reason for me to read posts is to work out which ones to delete...
A couple of other stocks I find interesting in the green energy sphere are:
QTMM : their board seems to be under assault by a nutter at the moment too !
Natcore: is releasing some interesting PRs but as yet not convincing enough for me to consider parting with my money.
Fully agree with your call for calm.
But:
- recognise that it is essentially futile at the moment
- also like it or not the board is also here to support short term traders
Paid manipulators also show up from time to time - again they largely have to be put up with - best strategy if you think you have identified one is to ignore them (because engaging with them is pointless).
Thanks for your thoughts.
This is something for me to look into.
Ha Ha - we get more than enough sun down under - plenty for when SLTD gets here !
still, for strategic reasons complete future reliance on solar as the main renewable source is possibly not wise.
Why ?
- what if a volcano blows up and a dust cloud is over your solar panels for months?
- What if an enemy makes a bomb that zaps your solar panels?
- What if your country doesn't make panels and you must rely on imports?
There is of course wind - but that's not fully reliable either. A suitable long term energy storage is not yet available - but may come. Clean coal or gas might be an option - but seemingly a long way from economic feasibility.
So we come to ocean wave energy - this is way more predictable & reliable. There are maps of suitable places to harvest ocean energy. There are still problems of cost competitiveness and engineering challenges - but to me this seems to closest answer for now.
Did not read the story but assume this a reference to the SolarCity "Gigafactory".
- there are plenty of solar panel makers in the US
- SolarCity have chose a different technology
- at the moment their business model is mainly leasing based (they are often referred too as a finance company rather than a solar company); SLTD's is purchase based in the main (& profitable!!)
- In all likelihood SolarCity will acquire solar companies - they have already done so - whether we might be up for sale to them; no idea!
Nicely put.
My own philosophy is to ignore the antics and actions of short sellers - & good luck to them if they happen to make a profit.
I prefer to focus on what our company is doing - & at the moment its perfectly reasonable to speculate that solar cell news may be upon us before too long. Also reasonable to speculate we may well be able to grow & prosper without the solar cell - though this would be very disappointing.
Perhaps the population size does not necessarily reflect the electricity usage ??
(all those lights and pokies in Vegas maybe !!)
Well I admit I only glanced at the "competitors" - so I take it you suggest they are worth further study ? OK - time permitting I will have a look.
There are a lot of scam techs out there that are pretty much worthless - as I am sure you know.
My view is ocean wave energy may be a good bet on another renewable energy source - but big engineering problems to get past. Maybe places like Alaska can be fed from such - or utility scale solar somewhere more sunny - well assuming they are grid connected.
Yes Nevada is good - assume that state is right next to California ?
and is not there a lot of desert - which means sunshine. (from Australia here.)
I know I just said we are lenient on off topic posts....
but this really looks like the stuff of some bunch of crackpots...
(there are many such energy generators based on some fanciful pseudo science - in some cased I think the crackpot inverters actually believe their own delusions)
I agree we are (in general) in an over-hyped mood and the expression of negative opinions is likely to attract a vigorous response.
Not much can be done to counter this = best not to try; though I am tempted to put some more calmer notes in the stickies.
Like:
- remember this is a penny stock that has significant risks
- there is still no solar cell third party validation
- there is very little info on the solar cell; in fact I think we are all just assuming there actually is one
- there are very few facts as to how we are going with acquiring a partner for manufacture
why ???
OK you are wrong......
(Mind you I have no interest in whether there is or not)
You do raise something for posters to remember:
On the less well managed boards the mods can and do manipulate the board for their own ends - I am not at all surprised.
I have yet to see this happen here though.
Rules of the Board
With all the excitement building now seems like a good time to remind posters of the rules:
1. Try to keep on topic; in particular not that SLTD is the topic - not other posters. It is OK to disagree - just do it nicely.
2. Try to be helpful/welcoming to newcomers - and yes this means even if they ask questions already answered many times !
3. Remember the board is shared by people with different interests e.g. traders interested in short term price movements, investors interested in the long term.
In general the moderators only delete personal attack posts and spam. We are reasonably lenient with off topic posts. That being said it's better to discuss contentious topics such as politics or religion elsewhere.
Enjoy !!
an interesting dud perhaps...
to me Natcore looks more interesting at the moment - but not solid enough to speculate in
dude :
1. your advice is USELESS
2. I don't have to do anything you say
Settle dude.
We all respect the business acumen of JN - except for some paid naysayers perhaps.
He is not "our leader" either - just runs the company we partly own.
Agreed.
I meant to semi-imply what you have put forward.
He may well have the manufacturer lined up - perhaps without everything finalized but close...
"there are so many positives to this acquisition"
yes indeedy;
Only negative I can see is this means JN has not been focusing on getting the cell into manufacture and is not giving any clues away; still, he may surprise us here too.
well you could also cease and desist with your unwanted, useless and ridiculous advice...
I don't care if you are bored !
I don't think I actually said they are telling lies...
but given this is a penny stock - the company must surely be treated with caution; perhaps even skepticism.
So for me the case is not closed.
With regard to their Australian deal - I think they could well be stretching the truth. That is, they may have some agreement with unknown conditions attached - that make it just "pie in the sky".
More important is whether CETC is really as claimed - i.e. "government owned with 8000 employees". Chinese companies have a poor reputation (doesn't mean they are all bad) so this raises a red flag for me.
What stock is that?
This one : OPVS.
Based on what?
More advanced competitors. See these guys: http://www.heliatek.com/
Too long to market.
Who are you?
An expert in solar energy.
Happy to assist.
Well I agree the stock SMELLS !
mmmm appreciate the warm, friendly welcome and the helpful suggestions...
Don't need to sell coz have not yet bought...
"CETC Solar Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. is a government-owned diversified technology" "with 8000 employees";
Anyone know how to verify CETC is for real ??
(Natcore is claiming an Australian manufacturing deal as well - this seems highly unlikely to me...)
Have determined this stock is a dud until proven otherwise !
whats the story here ??
With you on this one. Day to day price movements are of interest to the traders whom we share the board with.
Credible third party validation is what I want to see. Guess a solid manufacturing deal would constitute that.
Hate being in the dark myself and would love to know more about what's going on behind closed doors.
Wow dude - thank you for pointing out my error.
I bow down before your expertise and humbly concur with your assessment.
but does a patent stop the Chinese ????
Dude : tis the cost per watt of panel manufacturing that matters more than the efficiency of the cell
the large Chinese makers are coming in just under 50c a watt - so we must be under this
SunEdison is claiming ~ 40c a watt for their new factories - best if we were around (or under) this mark.
Most interesting fantasy !!
At a minimum the SPI conference should be a great networking opportunity - wish I could make it there myself but travel is a bit restricted at the moment.
The only "code" in the PR is how to say nothing much using a moderate amount of words...
- Solar 2.0 is just buzzword speak for whatever Sunworks business model is
- "new technology" is not a reference to the new solar cell and could mean just about anything...
- "new regions" is anywhere JN can cut a good deal...
That is there is no gleaning any nuggets of gold out of a fluff PR - but at least the efforts in reading between the lines and interpretations are amusing.
All IMO of course.
Right on dude !
This post reflects the "money shot" we are all looking for...
Barely news in my book...
seems to confirm intention is to grow installer base - which I like;
for now prefer focus to remain on getting that solar cell happening;
mostly just fluff; repetition; and no new facts
supposedly AltaDevices is owned by Hanergy which is listed...
start throwing $$$$...
I have heard of graphene - the "wonder material".
For various reasons I think the consensus opinion would be that SLTD will go with silicon - at least initially.
Appreciated if you would consider not using caps so much !
- caps are considered to be shouting (and therefore some people will see this as being rude)
- more importantly (in my view) caps make your postings harder to read (peoples brains are trained to read lowercase)
There are NO official or final figures available. Yes around the number you gave was the "general consensus" based on the claims surrounding earlier prototypes.
My guess is patents are not the issue. Would assume that the cell numbers can be released once a manufacturing deal is locked down - hopefully before the end of the year otherwise some holders will start to get nervous.
Third party validation of some kind is what is really required to attract non-speculative type investment.
And finally - we must also know that solar cell can be manufactured cost effectively regardless of what the efficiency level turns out to be.
