Did not read the story but assume this a reference to the SolarCity "Gigafactory".

- there are plenty of solar panel makers in the US
- SolarCity have chose a different technology
- at the moment their business model is mainly leasing based (they are often referred too as a finance company rather than a solar company); SLTD's is purchase based in the main (& profitable!!)

- In all likelihood SolarCity will acquire solar companies - they have already done so - whether we might be up for sale to them; no idea!
