I'm thinking the suspense will be over in a couple of weeks, tops.
I'm not an Orioles fan but I hate to see this situation with Davis unfolding. Small market teams can't make this mistake; they have 1 shot to sign a mega-contract with a bona-fide superstar who can become the face of team for the duration of the deal. This could be the worst contract EVER. And the O's are paying Trumbo $13.5 million. And they let Adam Jones, the true face of the team, slip away to Arizona, who are paying him a paltry $3 million.
No wonder only 6500 fans showed up for the Orioles game yesterday, which in itself is a huge disgrace to the legacies of Frank and Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell, Cal Ripken Jr, Jim Palmer and many other former Baltimore greats.
Bullpens have been an issue with a lot of reams. At least you didn't overpay for mediocrity. If I signed Miller, Robertson or Kelly for $25 million plus, I'm not too happy with the results so far.
You know better than to get too excited by a 6-2 start! But this year, the Mets certainly feel like a better roster to me all around. And with no expectations from big $$ bats like Bruce and Cespedes, other young dudes with something to prove are getting a fair chance without the pressure. It's a great division, the NL east. Gonna make those teams reach deep and play outstanding baseball if they want to win it.
Without a doubt Maddon is an excellent manager.... game 7 World Series moves notwithstanding. Super sharp. Sometimes 2 sharp knives are one too many in the cutlery drawer.
Cubs won't extend him past this year. And there's some ego clash with him and baby Theo.
First manager to be fired this season? Who do you think?
Joe Maddon gets my vote. Everyone else is either rebuilding or their teams are supposed to suck this season.
5 more wins in a row and they'll on pace to match the 2018 Mets 77-85 4th place finish!!!
Yelich with an awesome weekend. 3 out of 4 against the Cards is a nice early bit of home cooking!
Santana for Gamel was a great trade for the Mariners. Santana tore it up in 2017, with 30 dongs and a .278 average when given a chance to play every day. Cain and Yelich made him dispensable...until the first injury happens to a Brewers OF.
Brewers have made a couple of dubious moves in the past few years, like letting Gennett walk for free. I think the Gamel trade will be another one. You got a solid power bat for years in Santana.
Some highlights for me:
As an example, we estimate the management fees from the $1.05 billion of capital that RCP raised in 2018 will have an average fee life in excess of eight years. Few businesses have that kind of visibility
One notable accounting line item in the table was the non-cash gain in the fourth quarter from the $8.9 million write up of
P10’s tax asset. We hope to continue to grow our profitability such that a continued reassessment of our Deferred Tax Asset is
required.
What do you think of Boras's idea of each team having a franchise player whose salary doesn't count against the payroll cap?
Brewers arms looking pretty ragged. Nelson a bit tender, Jeffress with a dead shoulder and worst yet, Knebel might need TJ surgery. Hope they can wrangle some kind of a deal with Kimbrel because like most small market clubs, their playoff window is only open for a couple of years.
And there's no Wade Miley surprise in the wings. NL east and NL central: one or two injuries could pull the pin on the whole season.

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to tuning into the presentation.
SRTS any significant updates from Roth?
He might not be Joe Dimaggio, but Belt put together a pretty decent AB last year:

Looks like MLB needs to pass a list of untouchables: rules or conventions in baseball that can never be changed.
Deciding who plays who, aka interleague play is a very different proposition than messing with the distance from the mound to the plate.
Without safeguarding the integrity of the game, MLB will always run the risk of being ruined by a cabal of greedy, dessicated owners and their stooge commissioner.
And I reckon that given Harper's potential production at age 39. Bonilla's deal is going to look better than the purchase of Manhattan for $24, which of course led directly to Shea being built and the subsequent signing of Bonilla.
Amazing how history works...

i'm thinking there's too much $$ in the biotech buy-out space these days...

Still holding shares from the last offering at $6.80. The good news here keeps coming, and while the PPS has climbed a bit, there's been no big jump that reflects the potential/market share.
HJLI
I'm in this play. Love the small study size and the timely set up of PRs heading into March.
Sadly, with no current treatment options, many of these patients have little hope for an improvement in their lifestyles.
The venovalve isn't a new med per se. Just an insert which seeks to promote improved circulation by shutting down reflux, ie, what plumbers call a check valve. And while the device has only been trialled in animals to date, we're talking about blood flow and circulation here, as opposed to genetic engineering or chemical composition.
At a current pps close to the 52 week low, and a float of 6 million with under 12 million shares out, I like the risk/reward.
Imagine that limo door opening.... watching some wrinkled 79 year old putz strip off his DEPENDS and you gotta make this clown feel like he's johnny wad holmes, or minimum, pretend to like it. All for $79 an hour before the pimp's cut....
I'll never complain about about my job again!
Yup. Harper may even top the Money Machado contract due to the increased leverage now that Harper's the last fa standing.
Nice re-sign of moose for the Crew. Another one year deal that we small market teams have to negotiate... just can't afford to get burned like the Mets!
NL east and central are awesome divisions this season. Could very well come down to injuries. Or the team that finishes September hot like the Brewers did last season.
I hope you're right. One thing that I know: baseball has lost it's mojo over the past few seasons. I'm not liking the look of this next contract negotiation, and I fear for the changes that could come into effect all in the name of keeping MLB cashed up.
Baseball's calling card as an entertainment has been its consistency and tradition. It'll never compete with the fast-paced entertainments that the 21st century internet world will spawn. Trying to rev up the game to this end will only diminish it.
I can't see too many Rod Carews on the horizon. Sadly, there's little money to be made in slapping a single the other way. Case in point : Merrifield's recent 4 year 16 million $$ deal with the Royals.
A slug batting .230 with a k every 4th at bat can hit 25 dongs and bank that 16 million in one season. All the while never developing the capacity to hit to the other field. I mean these days, it's huge news if one of these pull hitters puts down a bunt to get on base. I doubt many of them can.
Jon Lester?
Classic!I remember a Steve "Bye Bye" Balboni at bat for the Yanks at the old stadium on an Easter weekend in the 80's. Bags full, bottom of the 9th, game on the line.
First pitch: Balboni misses it by at least 2 feet and the crowd laughs. 2nd pitch: Balboni misses by at least 2 1/2 feet and the crowd busts out in laughter. After 2 balls, Balboni crushes it over the wall for a game-winning salami. Tag line: Balboni was so pissed off by the jeering that he didn't come out of the dugout for a tip of the hat.
Those were the good old Yanks days, when the yanks sucked...Dallas Green trying to skipper a crew of washed up losers to within 5 games of 1st.
Yogi's looking more like Gollum in that snap!
Considering how tight money is is Brewtown, I'd have preferred splashing some $$ on a front line starter. Chacin had a great season in 2018- it'll be hard for him to match or top it in '19. And they'll lose a lot that they paid very little for when Miley leaves town. Personally, I was more excited to read the Bumgarner trade rumors a few days ago....Gotta hope Nelson comes back strong by May at the latest.
That said, getting Grandal for 1 season minimizes the potential pain. Happy it's not a Yu Darvish pay-for-5-years-get-2-if-you're-lucky contract...And Grandal will have to perform if he wants a big, multi-year paycheck after 2019, so the pressure is all on him....
NL East and Central definitely shaping up as the most balanced, competitive divisions in baseball by far. Wish the Crew was in the AL central or NL west this year....gonna be real tough to repeat. And the NL East is even tighter, with 4 teams set to compete, especially if the Phillies sign Bryce or Manny. Health is everything in a multi-team race, which was a strong point for the Crew last year...Not so much the Mets.
Love the trade! Brewers had to ship this guy out as he was out of options. Chance to build up the farm a bit.
Broxton might surprise you. 20 dingers 2 years ago, great speed and an excellent glove. Mets have made much worse deals than this one.
Nice perspective on that deal. Unfortunately for the Halos, they need to sign a winning SP. 3 years ago. Harvey at any price over 5 million $ makes sense for the Rays or the Brewers...maybe the A's...but not the Angels IMO.
11 million is waaaaay to much for Harvey IMO.... but might be better than the $77.5 million they paid CJ Wilson.
Probably CC's best shot at securing the 500k given that he plunked the dude in the 6th, he needed 6 more outs to guarantee the $$ and his longest start of the season was 7.0 innings. Sheesh, I'd have beaned him for half of that!
You can't wish that bad contract on a small market like the Reds. Makes more sense as a replacement for Cespedes when he goes down in May!
Thanks sskillz for another year of great contests. Can't wait til next year!
