OTC - agree with you... keep in mind that MM's want to be compensated for the risk of trading crap. And they make sure to make $$$
BOBWINS - a slight correction, 50 cents and under is 5000, 51 -1.00 is 2500 shares, 1.01 and up is 500 shares. Also, when MDF or another stock is bid 3.00 for 5000 shares and offered at 3.05 for 500 shares, what does it tell you about the market if the 500 shares is hiding an offer of 100,000 @ 3.06... NOT MUCH. The specialist on the AMEX or MM's on NASDAQ can and do play major games. Not common knowledge, but have you seen SIZE listed as MM on NASDAQ, that is the symbol used by MM's to submit anonymous bids and offer's... Not very kosher in my book!
otcbargins - 5000 shares is not meaningless, it is the minimum amount that the marketmaker has to buy or sell on the bid or offer that they are showing. True- it does not represent the true potential size of the market.
$1.11 is this a buy at this level?
Still a profitable company in a hot industry, this is getting slammed on low volume.
Disciplined Approach

Now when I'm accumulating a stock, and the news I expect to move the stock is several weeks off...then I will pay more attention to the chart. No need to chase it if there is plenty of time for a pullback. Also depends on how undervalued I think the stock is. If only slightly undervalued, definitely no rush. If I think it's extremely undervalued, I may buy a few just in case it keeps going up...but hoping it drops so I can take a larger position.
------------------
Hweb you have mastered the hardest part of the game. After many years at this, it is still counter to my nature and most others to buy as it drops, even knowing of its true value at that point.
I am still learning!

it does not work for me. i have hidden a poster and still see all the posts!
OT - 2 questions ....
1. How does the ignore feature work? It seems that you get 5 with the free membership. I used the hide poster and they still show up.
2. If the Iraq democracy takes hold... then would that not set in motion the eventual demise of OPEC? Not thinking this would be a near term event, but maybe 10 years down the road. Any thoughts?

Validian Flash Communicator Named 2005 SIIA Codie Awards Finalist
Tuesday February 1, 1:25 pm ET
USB-based Secure File Transfer and Message System Impresses Judges in the Best Communication/Collaboration Solution Category
OTTAWA, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Validian Corporation (OTC BB: VLDI - News) today announced that Flash Communicator(TM) has been named a finalist in the Software & Information Industry Association's (SIIA) 20th Annual Codie Awards. Deployed on a USB-device, Flash Communicator delivers secure, authenticated file-transfer and messaging capabilities from virtually any Internet-connected computer in the world, improving the communication, collaboration and productivity of remote and mobile workers.
Flash Communicator stands as a finalist for Best Communication or Collaboration Solution. This category recognizes the product or service that best facilitates individual or group interaction. Entries include e-mail software, instant messaging software, translation services, voice-over-IP, groupware, as well as real-time conferencing and collaboration over the Internet.
"The 20th Annual Codie Awards continue the tradition of honoring the best of the software, content and education technology industries," said Ken Wasch, SIIA President. "When one considers the number of outstanding companies that competed this year, being named a Codie Awards finalist is a significant achievement."
A full list of finalists is available at http://www.siia.net/codies/2005/finalists.asp.
"Such a positive response from the reputable judges chosen by SIIA for the Codie Awards is a tribute to the usability of our Flash Communicator," said Dr. Andre Maisonneuve, President and CEO of Validian, "Companies that rely on sensitive and private information want to leverage the benefits of real-time collaboration and communication over the Internet while maintaining confidentiality. A major barrier however has been the risk they face in the transmission of information over public networks. Flash Communicator creates a trusted environment that addresses this business problem and ensures information never travels in the clear."
Validian Flash Communicator improves productivity by creating real-time, collaborative environments and by ensuring the secure exchange of data among authorized and authenticated users -- including remote and mobile workers -- over the Internet, LAN and corporate WAN, either wired or wireless. Flash Communicator implements a trusted domain and a security layer in which encrypted files and messages are exchanged.
Winners of the SIIA 20th Annual Codie Awards will be announced on May 25, 2005, at the Codie Awards Ceremony and gala dinner held at Universal Studio's Globe Theater in Universal City, CA.

Because nothing they do is believable. I am holding my stock until it goes much higher or to ZERO. It's time for them to get it going.

1/6/05 stock was .43 x .50 ... thought it could go back over a buck and maybe to old highs of 1.50+
today .64 x .68 little resistance as it moves higher.
any kind of real revenues should take it much higher. small play for me. past manipulation makes me cautious.
OT Handmade,
I use Schwab @ 9.95 trade.. any amount of shares.
I also use Ameritrade $10.99
I see that Waterhouse has an active trader 9.95 with no share limit if you trade 30 times in a 90 day rolling period or have 500K in assets. Thinking of moving from Ameritrade.
Others on this board recommend Freetrade, which is dirt cheap or free. Owned by Ameritrade.
I like to have more than 1 account.

Lentinman - Florida Bubble Gains
>>But, these 20% annual gains in property value are clearly >>bubbles as a result of the lowest interest rates in 40 years.
Those 20% gains are on the median and lower priced homes. When you start moving up into the 400's and up... the 20% is not happening. I listed my home 17 days ago and had about 7 showings. Got 4 offer's, one lowball.. one wacko.. one no wanna pay the price and one full price all cash deal.. which do you think I am taking...

CLIFTON, N.J., Jan. 18, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Electronic Control Security, Inc. Bobwins : Philosphy & MDF
Loved your post on how you evaluate investments. A keeper. Brings up a question regarding any stocks in a bear market, but I will pick MDF as the example. Is MDF as it currently is performing a keeper for you if you knew that we were entering a bear market for the next year. I assume that some portions of your portfolio would be keepers and others would be sold.
TIA
Researcher:
They make money on the margin accounts when you borrow. They also make money on loaning out the stock in your account. That is a very profitable portion of the business. The actual cost of doing trades via computer has dropped so much since 10-20 years ago. When I used to be in the brokerage business we paid 8.00 for a ticket to our clearing agent. Now the incremental cost to do a trade electronically must be tiny.

Agree with you Kipp: Why exactly present at Needham if they don't have a good story to tell. Did anyone actually hear the presentation OR are we just looking at the filing. What you file can be a far cry from the comments made during the presentation and the deals struck over a few martini's at one of Manhattan's fine watering holes.

Conference is for Needham clients only. Doubt that you could listen in, unless of course you were a fly on the wall. <g>

OT Lentinmen - Winter Flying..
Just returned from Portland via Minn-St. Paul to Tampa... Landed in a Hail/Ice Storm, almost lost my lunch.. Never again will I fly and stop in a northern city in the winter. 2 hours on the plane waiting for deicing, with 2 children... bumpy scary ride.. got home 3:30 am... Hate flying all the time. Just don't like 4 days in a car any better.
"Tell me about Kansas so I don't feel bad about Hurricanes." Funny guy. I'll tell you about Kansas - from November to March (which includes today). IT SUCKS! I would love to go back during the winter and see you all, however I have this thing about flying - especially in winter. Have you ever noticed that most of the time planes take a dive it is because of weather???
Yeeha! it's happy hour... where is the martini bar? May have to become a premium member so I can filter out the junk.
Thanks Bobwins... for keeping us up on the MDF story... still hanging in..

Len, Myco vs. VLDI
I beleive that Myco is a software program installed on your computer. VLDI's product can be embedded on a flash card and taken with you. You could travel half way across the world and borrow someone's computer, plug your flash card in and send a secure, encrypted message or upload or download large files securely. They did a fingerprint recognition device with Sony that looked to be a winner. Not sure how it sold. The Shemano Group in San Francisco did a research report as well as raise some big private money for them.
Some of the promoters involved with this company ran the stock up to $1.50 and dumped. If it is real, this should go back to those levels. If not, they will probably run it to at least a $1.00 to get all the private placement money out.
VLDI - could be making a comeback.
Now that tax selling is over, several large blocks passed in December... this one could be making a move back over $1.00. Great technology, company still has cash and relatively no sales other than some pilot test projects. Mostly in the secure email technology business. Had a deal with Sony to incorporate the tech into the fingerprint readers. Could be a big winner, especially from these levels. Not betting the farm, just a small play.

Good luck with this board everyone. These are the kinds of stocks I am trying to stay away from, so that I don't downgrade my zip code.... However, greed will keep me reading, buying and contributing.
