Veltex Finalizes 20 Truck Purchase - Projected to Bring Almost 1.5 Cents In EPS Next Year Alone.12/5/02
LOS ANGELES, Dec 5, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Veltex Corporation (OTC: VLVT) announced that they have completed the purchase of 20 Freightliner trucks and have taken delivery on the first 7 with the remainder slated for delivery during the next two weeks. The trucks are 2001 Freightliner Classics, top of the line models which Freightliner describes as "boasting an impressive 132-inch BBC and 15 different sleeper options . . . is legendary for its styling, luxury, power" and is designed to maximize driving efficiency, making it possible for a team of drivers to drive these 18-wheel trucks 24/7 with only fuel stops. The trucks are in "like new" condition, have been refurbished and carry full warranties.
All of the trucks are being bought under the Veltex Corporation name with an initial payment of $135,000 and the remainder financed through Daimler Chrysler Finance.
"Each truck is expected to bring in approximately $15,000 to $20,000 of revenue per month, and approximately $2,000 to $4,000 in pre-tax monthly income. That means these 20 trucks can represent over $400,000 in revenue per month and about $80,000 in pre-tax income per month," said Andy Friedel, President and COO of Veltex Transportation, formerly known as MultiModal Transportation prior to its purchase by Veltex Corporation.
"We are also in the process of purchasing 80 more trucks by year end," he said.
Commenting on the good news, Veltex Chairman and CEO Javeed Matin said, "This move proves the commitment the management of Veltex has in growing the company into a $50,000,000 revenue company in 24 months. Veltex Corporation is focused on creating shareholder value through growing revenue and profits."
Veltex Corporation cautiously estimates over 20 cents in EPS next year, with a substantial increase in revenues owing to the profitability and synergy of its subsidiaries. More key announcements are expected to be made in the next month.

How the inspections are going to go down...!!
Hans Blix and the first wave of weapons inspectors have arrived in Baghdad.
Blix and company will spend a few weeks getting their typewriters plugged in and then, presumably, the inspections will start.
These are just hunches … based on past experience and current news … but hunches anyway.
Here are some thoughts on just how I think these inspections may turn out.
Saddam knows that he has the support of much of the world and almost all of the UN when it comes to thwarting Bush's intentions.
He will use this support to come up with a series of objections to the inspection plans and actions.
So long as Bilx keeps his inspectors away from hot sites everything will be relatively smooth.
Come close to something sensitive and the roadblocks will go up.
One safe bet …
Blix and crowd will probably never actually find any hidden weapons.
Before they actually make that discovery the Iraqis will attempt to stall, and will then use force to prevent the discovery.
Blix said yesterday that it would take a "pattern" of interference on the part of the Iraqis for him to report any non-compliance to the Security Council.
Bush wants a zero tolerance policy on obstruction.
This is an indication that Blix isn't going to hold any feet to the fire.
It may well turn out to be a "go along to get along" inspection regime.
We have no real control over the inspection team.
There is nothing to prevent Blix from sending those inspectors to locations where he knows they will be well received and no violations will be found.
To much of Europe there is no real desire for the UN to actually uncover Saddam's weapons programs.
They do not want the US to move against Iraq, and the best way to prevent this is to not find out what Hussein is up to.
As soon as it becomes apparent that Hussein is obstructing the inspections there will be a new wave of objections against any use of force by the US.
Russia has already said that there must be a second Security Council vote before military action begins.
Look for this to become the default position of much of the world as time for action draws near.

An OT news story we all should watch...
Message board postings prompt successful legal challenge;
AOL may appeal.
Scarlet Pruitt, IDG News Service
Tuesday, November 05, 2002
The Virginia Supreme Court has ruled against America Online in its latest effort to protect the anonymity of one of its subscribers, in a case that could shape how free speech is perceived online.
The ruling against AOL came as part of a nearly two-year-old case filed by electronics design and manufacturing company Nam Tai Electronics, alleging that 51 unknown individuals had committed libel, trade libel, and violations of California's unfair business practices statutes by posting defamatory messages about the company's publicly traded stock on an Internet message board.
One of the message-posters was revealed to be an AOL subscriber, and Nam Tai acquired a subpoena requesting that the world's largest ISP hand over the person's identity.
AOL filed a motion to quash the subpoena, however, contending that the disclosure would "infringe upon the well-established First Amendment right to speak anonymously."

Anonymity in chat rooms is an ongoing issue that has drawn legal attention in several forums.
Hot Topic
The California court handling the case denied the motion, and AOL appealed the ruling to the Virginia Supreme Court.
The court's decision Friday to uphold the lower court's ruling is significant, in that the ISP's home state decided not to get involved in what could be a sticky free speech issue, experts say.
AOL is disappointed with the supreme court's decision, an AOL spokesperson said Tuesday.
"We feel very strongly that there are critical, important First Amendment issues at stake in this case," said Nicholas Graham, an AOL spokesperson.
David Sobel, general counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), said the Virginia Supreme Court had "punted on a very controversial issue" by upholding the California court's ruling.
If AOL is eventually forced to turn over the identity of its subscriber, Sobel said, the move could have a potential chilling effect in how users view free speech online.
AOL was given ten days to ask the Virginia Supreme Court to reconsider its opinion. If the request is denied, the case could be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The company is still "in the process of considering options," according to Graham.
The company has previously fought legal efforts to access members' personal information, and noted its promises in its privacy policies.

Anti-Gun Agenda Cost Candidates for House and Senate
By Jeff Johnson
CNSNews.com Congressional Bureau Chief
November 07, 2002
Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Republicans focused their mid-term election campaigns on homeland defense and the potential of a war with Iraq while Democrats mainly concentrated on the economy, Social Security, and healthcare issues. But for many candidates in both parties, their position on the Second Amendment played a significant role in their election or defeat.
Preliminary analysis indicates that, of 24 Senate candidates endorsed by the National Rifle Association (NRA), 21 were elected. The South Dakota Senate race is within the 500-vote margin mandating a recount, and would mean an additional NRA victory if Republican Rep. John Thune surpassed incumbent Democrat Sen. Tim Johnson. Even without a Thune victory, the results are a net gain of two pro-gun senators.
The NRA endorsed 246 candidates in House contests. Of those, 230 won, with two - Colorado's 7th district and Texas' 23rd district - still undecided. That represents a net gain of at least 11 pro-gun representatives.
"Were pleased that NRA members, sportsmen and law-abiding gun owners across America answered the call to freedom and helped play a significant role in this great victory for the Second Amendment," said Kelly Whitley, spokeswoman for the NRA.
"This was a clear message to gun ban advocates across the country that the American people believe in the Second Amendment and want candidates who will fight for that freedom," she added.
On Oct. 21, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence released its "Dirty Dozen" list of candidates who "endanger public safety" by their support of the Second Amendment.
"These are the candidates who let the NRA write their campaign speeches. Their records," said campaign chairwoman Sarah Brady, "demonstrate their indifference to public safety."
Of the five Senate candidates opposed by Brady, only one lost, Doug Forrester (R-N.J.). Similarly, only one of the three candidates on the Brady Campaign's House target list, California Republican Dick Monteith, was defeated.
Two of the three House candidates endorsed by the Brady Campaign, including Republican Felix Grucci from New York's 1st congressional district, also lost.
One symbolic defeat for the pro-gun control movement was that of anti-gun incumbent Republican Rep. Connie Morella from Maryland's 8th District. Democrat Chris Van Hollen effectively neutralized the Second Amendment issue during the campaign by attempting to "out gun control" Morella, but Sarah Brady personally supported Morella with commercial endorsements and campaign appearances. Morella lost by more than five percentage points.
Another Brady "Dirty Dozen" list member from Maryland, Republican gubernatorial candidate Robert Ehrlich, also defeated incumbent Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend. Townsend had campaigned heavily on her support for stricter gun control laws, and the Brady Campaign launched a last minute "issue ad campaign" Oct. 30, targeting Ehrlich for defeat, despite his support for several gun control measures.
Gun Owners of America spokesman Erich Pratt found the results remarkable, especially because Maryland is considered to be "one of the most anti-gun states in the union.
"The elections in Maryland show how small the Brady Campaign's constituency really is," he said. "We see that [Sarah Brady's] endorsement tended to be the kiss of death for her candidates."
While Whitley was unwilling to speculate in too much detail about how a more gun-friendly Congress might behave, she did offer one prediction.
We're pleased now, and we're going to take it one day at a time," she said. "Hopefully, whether it be in the lame duck or early next session of Congress, we'll see the Senate pass a bill to arm commercial airline pilots. That's something that we've supported since Sept. 11 [2001]."
Pratt was a bit more optimistic.
"We think we're seeing the nail in the coffin as far as many major gun control proposals are concerned," he said.
Calls to the Brady Campaign requesting comment on the election outcome were not returned.

The storm had come up quickly and each time the thunder boomed he watched her jump.
She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance and wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her, protect her from the storm, she
wanted that .
.. then the power went out.
She screamed.
He raced to the sofa where she was cowering. He did not hesitate to pull her into his arms.
He knew this was a forbidden union and expected her to pull back.
He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead clung to him.
The storm raged on ...

The Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chretien,
is making an official state visit to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
All the locals are quite excited to have the Prime Minister come to their town for the first time ever, and they've prepared quite a welcome for him.
When he steps off of the plane, everyone is quite taken aback to see the P.M., while dressed otherwise quite normally, looking especially resplendent in a magnificent fox hat--like a Daniel Boone coonskin, only made of fox.
The cameras are clicking away as he steps off the plane.
After the official greetings are over, and the mayor of Moose Jaw has a private moment with the P.M. away from the cameras and onlookers, he finally unleashes his curiosity.
"Excuse me, Mr. Prime Minister, but I must ask.
I have never seen you wearing this magnificent fox hat before, and I wonder why you chose to wear it to our humble town?"
The P.M. replies:
"Well, monsieur mayor, eh, 'dat is quite simple, you see.

Snuffy and Me
By Tammy Bruce
FrontPageMagazine.com / October 16, 2002
I'm a gun owner. "Snuffy" is my .38 snubnose Smith & Wesson. As a woman a firearm is the only thing that truly equalizes me if faced with someone determined to do me harm. Yes, physical defense courses are good, but in my opinion if a man who wishes me harm is close enough to touch me, he's already too close. Anyone who enters my home with malevolent intentions will not leave standing up. It's that simple.
As a defender of the Second Amendment, I knew it was only a matter of time before opponents of our right to bear arms couldn't stand it anymore and started to exploit the tragedy brought to us by the cowardly freak dubbed the Beltway Sniper. Anti-gun political candidates are using it make hay with their self-defense supporting opponents; professional haters of firearms are, as usual, shouting from hill and dale that the sky is falling.
Ginni Wolf, executive director of Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse declared that the Beltway Sniper has proven her group's argument that there are "too many guns out there, and it's very easy for these types of people to obtain guns."
What planet is she on? What the sniper has proven is that there aren't enough firearms in the hands of law abiding citizens! Here's a newsflash for Ms. Wolf — the Beltway is essentially a gun-free zone. There, law abiding citizens do not carry weapons leaving them unarmed and defenseless to face a maniac killer who does not care about rules.
The sniper isn't cowed by gun laws, or the rhetoric of Kathleen Kennedy Townsend about the evils of firearms. Gun laws wouldn't have saved her father like they aren't saving the innocent good people who have also been murdered by a deranged man. The deranged and the criminal will always get their guns, just like those who wanted a drink during prohibition got their booze. The reality is gun laws only serve to keep firearms out of the hands of the law-abiding and cost those good people their lives by giving the murderous clear, risk-free targets.
Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, the author of the Tyranny of Good Intentions, wrote about author and professor Joyce Lee Malcolm and her book Guns and Violence. Malcolm provides evidence that firearms actually reduce violence:
National polls of defensive gun use by private citizens indicate that as many as 3.6 million crimes annually are prevented by armed individuals.
As many as 400,000 people each year believe they saved a life by being armed. Contrary to Handgun Control's propaganda, in fewer than 1 percent of confrontations do criminals succeed in taking the gun from the intended victim.
Thirty-four percent of felons said they were scared off, wounded or captured by victims who turned out to be armed.
Even more telling, in the 17 states and the District of Columbia without concealed-carry permits (the suburbs in which the sniper is thriving) enjoy an 81 percent higher rate of violent crime. Dr. Roberts reports their restrictive gun laws produced 1,400 more murders, 4,200 more rapes, 12,000 more robberies and 60,000 more aggravated assaults.
There was recently a slew of attacks on gay men in Southern California recently. Two thugs from south Los Angeles ventured up into West Hollywood, armed with bats, and brutally attacked several gay men. It's safe to say those bent on committing violence for whatever reason would think twice if they knew their potential targets could defend themselves in the most definitive of ways.
The Beltway Sniper proves that gun control laws actually put people at risk. The sniper is already in violation of numerous laws, gun related and otherwise. If the sniper is part of a foreign terrorist cell it also reminds us that the average citizen, here in the Homeland, is in fact our first line of defense. Those who argue, during this time of war on our own soil, that Americans should be disarmed, are naïve, irresponsible and promoting arguments which are ultimately fatally dangerous, not only for human life but for liberty itself.
It is law-abiding citizens like myself and so many others who own firearms who not only are personally safer, but keep this country free. If the anti-gun zealots insist on politicizing the situation with the sniper, those of us who support the Second Amendment have a duty to stand up and remind people this is an issue of civil rights and of self-defense. Those who argue to disarm us simply do not trust Americans, and perhaps even despise what has made this country great — like the individualism fostered in part by rights like the Second Amendment.
As of this writing, the last victim of the sniper was a woman who, with her husband, was putting merchandise into her car at a Home Depot. Her husband witnessed the shooting and could not respond. Several other bystanders witnessed the shooting and could not respond. If one of them, just one, had been armed, odds are the sniper's murderous rampage would have ended right there.
It is time to reject the vacuous arguments of the Left that we Americans need to be protected from ourselves and cannot be trusted to implement self-defense. Europe's history has shown us that a defenseless citizenry invites nothing less than criminal anarchy and tyrannical dictatorships.
While the Left wants you to believe you need to be protected from yourself, it took terrorism and a serial killer to show us who the real enemies are, and to expose the absurdity of gun control fanatics. Let evildoers — ranging from bin Laden to the Beltway Sniper, know this — American individuals will defend this nation, our neighbors, and our selves. Snuffy and I, and our compatriots throughout this great country, guarantee it.

A new virus has been detected
that you may want to take precautions against.
Be careful, if you try to solve this virus problem, you will be castigated in the media and by the UN.
This is the Palestinian Virus -
a virus that settles in your PC, claims it was there before your PC was built or Bill Gates was born, then demands parts of your hard drive.
If you want the virus to leave you and your PC alone, you can try to give the virus the hard drive space it wants, but it will refuse the deal and start killing data on your computer.
Some people have suggested a solution for this virus problem is to give the virus its own PC.
As stated above, this virus has been known to refuse the offer.
Other nearby PCs wont take the virus either, even if the virus is compatible with the other computers.
The virus seems to want nothing less than to take over your entire computer, with the removal and destruction of all your data.
Software based anti-virus solutions have been proposed, but so far only hardware solutions have had any impact.
The only solution we have been able to determine that may work is physical removal of the virus from your computer. The only problem with this solution is all the other computers will object.

The Big Wheel
In September 1960, I woke up one morning with six hungry babies and just 75 cents in my pocket.
Their father was gone. The boys ranged from three months to seven years; their sister was two.
Their dad had never been much more than a presence they feared.
Whenever they heard his tires crunch on the gravel driveway they would scramble to hide under their beds.
He did manage to leave $15 a week to buy groceries.
Now that he had decided to leave, there would be no more beatings, but no food either.
If there was a welfare system in effect in southern Indiana at that time, I certainly knew nothing about it.
I scrubbed the kids until they looked brand new and then put on my best home-made dress.
I loaded them into the rusty old 51 Chevy and drove off to find a job.
The seven of us went to every factory, store and restaurant in our small town.
No luck.
The kids stayed crammed into the car and tried to be quiet while I tried to convince whomever would listen that I was willing to learn or do anything.
I had to have a job. Still no luck.
The last place we went to, just a few miles out of town, was an old Root Beer Barrel drive-in that had been converted to a truck stop.
It was called the Big Wheel.
An old lady named Granny owned the place and she peeked out of the window from time to time at all those kids.
She needed someone on the graveyard shift, 11 at night until seven in the morning.
She paid 65 cents an hour and I could start that night.
I raced home and called the teenager down the street that baby-sat for people.
I bargained with her to come and sleep on my sofa for a dollar a night.
She could arrive with her pyjamas on and the kids would already be asleep.
This seemed like a good arrangement to her, so we made a deal.
That night when the little ones and I knelt to say our prayers we all thanked God for finding mommy a job.
And so I started at the Big Wheel.
When I got home in the mornings I woke the baby-sitter up and sent her home with one dollar of my tip money--fully half of what I averaged every night.
As the weeks went by, heating bills added a strain to my meagre wage.
The tires on the old Chevy had the consistency of penny balloons and began to leak.
I had to fill them with air on the way to work and again every morning before I could go home.
One bleak fall morning, I dragged myself to the car to go home and found four new tires in the back seat.
New tires !!!
There was no note, no nothing, just those beautiful brand new tires.
Had angels taken up residence in Indiana ?
I wondered.
I made a deal with the owner of the local service station.
In exchange for his mounting the new tires, I would clean up his office.
I remember it took me a lot longer to scrub his floor than it did for him to do the tires.
I was now working six nights instead of five and it still wasn't enough.
Christmas was coming and I knew there would be no money for toys for the kids.
I found a can of red paint and started repairing and painting some old toys.
Then I hid them in the basement so there would be something for Santa to deliver on Christmas morning.
Clothes were a worry too.
I was sewing patches on top of patches on the boys pants and soon they would be too far gone to repair.
On Christmas Eve the usual customers were drinking coffee in the Big Wheel.
These were the truckers, Les, Frank, and Jim, and a state trooper named Joe.
A few musicians were hanging around after a gig at the Legion and were dropping nickels in the pinball machine.
The regulars all just sat around and talked through the wee hours of the morning and then left to get home before the sun came up.
When it was time for me to go home at seven o'clock on Christmas morning I hurried to the car.
I was hoping the kids wouldn't wake up before I managed to get home and get the presents from the basement and place them under the tree.
(We had cut down a small cedar tree by the side of the road down by the dump.)
It was still dark and I couldn't see much, but there appeared to be some dark shadows in the car-or was that just a trick of the night ?
Something certainly looked different, but it was hard to tell what.
When I reached the car I peered warily into one of the side windows.
Then my jaw dropped in amazement!!!.
My old battered Chevy was filled full to the top with boxes of all shapes and sizes.
I quickly opened the driver's side door, scrambled inside and kneeled in the front facing the back seat.
Reaching back, I pulled off the lid of the top box.
Inside was whole case of little blue jeans, sizes 2-10 !
I looked inside another box:
It was full of shirts to go with the jeans.
Then I peeked inside some of the other boxes:
There was candy and nuts and bananas and bags of groceries.
There was an enormous ham for baking, and canned vegetables and potatoes.
There was pudding and Jell-O and cookies, pie filling and flour.
There was a whole bag of laundry supplies and cleaning items.
And there were five toy trucks and one beautiful little doll.
As I drove back through empty streets as the sun slowly rose on the most amazing Christmas Day of my life,
I was sobbing with gratitude.
And I will never forget the joy on the faces of my little ones that precious morning.
Yes, there were angels in Indiana that long-ago December.
And they all hung out at the
Big Wheel truck stop.
