So............are we to think that it takes 9+ months for CAFC to affirm ITC's decision? Damn, I just can't make myself believe it! At a minimum it has to be partial remand. JMHO
My point was that when a deal doesn't happen, you'll be kicking yourselves again.
Everyone on this board knows your "point". As far as kicking myself..........sure, we all wish we would have sold at $82 eleven years ago and then again a few months ago and bought back in at lower prices. For me, my cost basis is about $16 so I don't think I'll ever lose a dime. And, if the deal doesn't happen I still see a very bright future for IDCC with 3G, 4G and LTE.......not to mention M2M and video compression. I can hardly wait for your next "black sky" comment!
How many of you in hindsight would have sold at $82 if you knew what the next 4 months held?
Ahem......if I knew what the next 4 months held, I would have spent a lot more time at the casino and horse track, lol.
The Barclay deal. I was criticised for saying that it was not a good deal for IDCC.
I could be wrong, but I think the only way Barclay comes out good is if their shares rise above $66. I forgot the time-line on the deal.........hmmmm, maybe Olddog will chime in.
Thanks John. I respect your knowledge in this niche of wireless IP and hope you post here more often as this process progresses.
Mickey, for all of our sakes, I hope you're right.
Eagle, feel free to copy my email and add to it if you wish. The more, the merrier.
Lockworld, as a non-premium member I can't send you a pm. That said, I have no problem with your request. I'm sure every similar email to Janet would only help our investment in IDCC. I don't know when/if the next CC will be held, but I'll bet there will be lots of questions regarding this process.
Below is my first ever email to Janet. I sent it this morning so I guess IF I get a reply, it won't be until after Thanksgiving.

Hi Janet,
As a long-time shareholder of IDCC you can imagine the dismay and frustration I'm experiencing during this extended wait not only for the strategic alternative process, but also the CAFC decision. I know you have no control over the CAFC, but you do have some over this possible sale process. I'm also aware of the "quiet" period. But you have to know that this quiet period is creating fear among investors via all the FUD being spread by the likes of Deal Reporters. Isn't there something you can release that might put us at ease? Otherwise the share-price will continue to tumble on false rumors. Thanks for anything you can do!
Have a great Thanksgiving,
XXXX XXXXXXXXX
Joel/Nuke John,
It's been a long time since either of you have opined on the IDCC situation. I'm sure I'm not alone here when I say that we would be interested in your opinions regarding the current status of the "strategic alternative" process. Thanks in advance!
Oh, one more thing, if they lose the CAFC...that would set IDCC back your 10 yrs lol.
I sense that you enjoyed saying the comment above...........why is that?
If DR said "Our sources indicate sale is imminent at $120" would you still ask people not post it it here?
But.........DR didn't say that. No one knows, NO ONE has any idea what is going on with IDCC except the parties involved. No one........and I mean NO ONE will know anything until IDCC issues a press release. PERIOD!
JMO
I guess it depends on whether you look at shares outstanding or in the float. Click below and scroll down on the right side.

Mickey, less than 3% of the float is short shares, however I'm sure those holding 3.7 million shares short are hurting today.
Thanks Jim. It appears this country needs a dose of reality and Bill Whittle explains it very well.
OT: I know this is OT, but it might save your ID. The content below was just emailed to me.

JURY DUTY- DO NOT DELETE WITHOUT READING
Pass this on to your grown children and anyone else you can think of. This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced.
The caller claims to be a jury DUTY coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the Scammer asks you
for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen.
The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma , Illinois , and Colorado , AZ and more. This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.
Check it out here:

We just touched $51........even if it was only briefly.
Follow my post #346271 and you'll see the explanation.
Didn't someone say once we broke $50 there would be some short squeezing? Nothing better than the smell of shorts roasting over a open fire in the morning........aahhhhh.......smell that smell.
It's possible Paulsen paid $60+ during this time period.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=IDCC&t=6m&l=on&z=l&q=l&c=
Yup and considering his track record for the last 18 months, I wouldn't hang my hat on that.
Hearing that from you is funny...............I don't care who you are...........that's funny, lol.
Got it........so there's a good chance Paulsen paid $50+ per share as 3Q was the highest average S/P in 10 years.
Thanks Dodd, I stand corrected. Still have not had my first cup of coffee, lol.
6 million shares bought by the 2 Paulson funds were bought for over $50.00
Jim, if you divide $138,120,000 by 3,000,000 shares the cost of each share is $46.06.
wonder if he bought in just for the dividend play...
Hmmm, I really doubt he invested $135,000,000 just to make $300,000. It seems Paulsen is hoping for a buy out.
And I believe that I have shown how Mpartners valuation method can be completely off.
Like I said.......you can sell your IDCC shares........OR cover your short shares.........whatever the case may be. But please stop with the FUD as you're wasting your time. Many of us have been here along time and aren't about to throw in the towel because of a couple FUDmasters. JMO
I'm sure that certain patents, or family of patents, are worth absolute Gold, others are worth 0.
You are correct. So.......if Nortel was worth $4.5B........and we know not all of their patents were gold..........and if Merritt is correct about IDCC patents being "STRONGER & DEEPER", then I have to believe we'll retrieve higher offers/bids for our patents. JMO
I am questioning grade school based valuation method being bandied about.
Hmmm, well we all have opinions........and you know what they say about everyone having one. You also have the choice to sell your shares or not. Its obvious what most of us are going to do.
something up?
My guess is that the MPartners report has hit the wires.........hence, more buyers than sellers.
IMO, if the process wasn't continuing, we would have heard by now. I've gotta think this is a positive for shareholders. JMO
And this precluding comment.
? So here is the wildcard – InterDigital’s price range may be much higher than our target, which casts new light on complaints by potential interested parties regarding price. Although, based on the advisors that the Board of Directors hired, we believe that the intent is to sell the entire enterprise, the “walkaway’ price may be much higher than the market believes. The good news is that interested parties still appear to be above the “walkaway” price, otherwise the company would have concluded the process by now. The process is taking longer than investors expected, but it is definitely not outside of the range set by Nortel. Although MOSAID took less time, it had a gun to its head and probably gave up patent value for speed. We excluded Motorola Mobility from the analysis because we still believe that Google acquired MMI as much for operations as for patents.
I found the MPartners comment below interesting regarding the timeline.
WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG?
? First of all, “why is it taking so long?” is rhetorical because neither the company nor its advisors have ever disclosed expected timing. The Nortel process took 12 months to complete, with three months of stalking horse bidding, and three months for the auction itself. The InterDigital timeline is approaching 4 months.
It is amazing how every process this company gets involved with goes on and on with no end in sight.
No doubt..........nothing IDCC does happens quickly. You'd think after 40 years in business they'd have this down to an art by now. Just sayin........
IMO they won't sell for less than $7B simply based on their NPV comments.
Believe me when I say I hope you're right. Just as I hope Mickey, Joel and Nuke John are right. My retirement would be cake walk if IDCC sold for $15B, but I'm just not convinced that it will be bid up to that level.
Fact: value is where a company sells, and if a bid came in it $3B today, this company would sell.
Please show a link or proof that this is a "fact". IMO, they wouldn't sell for less than $5B.
Whoever said that a "sale" even began let alone continuing?
Whoever said that a sale hasn't begun and is continuing?
How does that affect morale and productivity going forward?
This has been a concern of mine all along. The employees need an update even more than us shareholders.
Heck I might even push over the out house with Jorma Olilla of Nokia still in it.
Be sure to drop him in the hole first!
I guess you and Mickey are much more savvy than EVERYONE else or the stock price would be much closer to that mkt cap as opposed to the current 2 billion.
.......and yet you still remain here.
would you rather be cheered up or have your IDCC holdings increased?
Actually........both would be nice :)
