Well- certainly the shippers think they do. Some of those ships are sitting there for weeks waiting to go through. I'd be interested to see if the costs of that are less than sailing around. Both the Panama and the Suez have to grow to handle the supermax container ships. Seems like that's half of the problems- there should be a size limit on those.
Indeed not. My comment was based on seeing and knowing others who have plenty of resources and education from which to make intelligent decisions. However, they choose to remain in the MAGA world in spite of them.
They can, but, as usual, it's all about the money.
Ashiq explained that vessels have to wait longer to transit the canal or ocean carriers make a business decision to take alternative routes, which add time and fuel costs to the journey. Shippers using multiple vessels to move their freight adds to freight costs, and longer lead times to secure bookings. Ultimately, he said, these costs may end up being passed down to businesses and consumers.
Going to take some time and rain to untangle this!
More than 200 ships are in a traffic jam outside the Panama Canal, showing we can't get through a year without big boats getting stuck
Your packages will arrive .........
BREAKING: UPS workers overwhelmingly approve a 5-year contract, ending a standoff between the company and the Teamsters union - AP
Doesn't seem to work for many of the MAGAS who have access to good education and everyone pretty much has internet access.
He's grown up in a MAGA world. I wouldn't bet .02 that he has an open mind. I live next door to a cultist and their kids. Kids attended good schools and all have access to internet. They are also going to vote GOP. How do I know? I asked them.
Why would it be surprising?
I adopted a new cat a few weeks ago- 7 year old big orange guy. He's not quite bonded yet. He sits beside me and looks at my lap, but has yet to try it out for a nap.
Yes...the cat naps in my lap while i sit.......
LOL- No, it's because one of my boy's is o vacation and I'm caring for his house and cats as well as my own. Lots of driving.....
I'm following as I can. AFKB much of this week.
i believe he'd be well advised to be proficient in self defense skills, though.
He has a Traitor for a father and an ex porn star for a mother. Would you be smiling?
If I were him I'd get a little plastic surgery, change my name and move somewhere those two never go.
Agreed, but they were there first. They can just keep suing and putting pressure on Desantis and friends 'til they leave, get arrested or voted out!
That is so true and the mentality exists in a lot more states than just Floriduh. It's going to take years for them to recover from the damage DeSantis has done. If they even can.
There was a math "catch-up" class in my HS. Most of the students in it were special needs. That's the class the Football Coach taught. I think it was the only one where the admin thought he might know more than the kids. I'm sure they learned very little.
How many days until theformerpersonrapist violates the bond conditions:

I haven't got past "Daydreaming" yet. Thanks!
But- another nice trade this morning. The volatility here makes for easy swing trades.
I like your new apprentice!
Back in the day when I wanted to learn how to build a computer and learn what made radios work, I signed up for an electronics program at our local Voc/Tech. By the time I was through, I had a certificate of Competency and more fun than I ever had getting my 4 year degrees.
It is. STEM classes.
That picture could be easy photo-shopped to make her look like an regular human.
They do here.
State law RCW 28A.195.010 states that “The legislature hereby recognizes that private schools should be subject only to those minimum state controls necessary to insure the health and safety of all the students in the state and to insure a sufficient basic education to meet usual graduation requirements.” Private schools must have health and safety inspections of the school buildings, provide instruction by Washington state certificated teachers (or by teachers supervised by a certificated teacher or administrator), and must meet instruction time requirements (a minimum of 1,000 hours or 180 days per year) and subject area requirements. Approved private schools must have full time enrolled students who attend the school.
The "supervised by' refers to Aides and intern/student teachers
Thar "must have a degree" is becoming less common. There are those jobs where you actually need to have one, like nursing or teaching for example. However, many tech jobs don't, or trades. Community colleges are excellent at scooping up these people and preparing them for a decent hob with in a few months. As you discovered, and I know because I've taught at one.
That's Trade Schooling which has long been an acceptable step after HS or- actually any time.
WA has mandatory state funding for basic education.
The 2017 Legislature passed Engrossed House Bill (EHB) 2242 to meet its obligation to fully fund basic education for public schools.
There are levies etc which can be voted on for construction and other costs.
Beginning with taxes due in 2022, the state levy returns to a budget-based system with a maximum levy rate of $3.60 per $1,000 market value.
$613,674 home — the state median value. That was Dec 2022 an I'm sure that's higher now. There are no houses in my area for that price- condo- perhaps.
You do realize that the West Coast has some good schools too, right?
A fair number of out local schools are associated with rowing clubs. That's due to the UW having an excellent rowing program that pulls athletes world wide.
I think that depends. In the School districts closest to me, they definitely can. And the kids on my street are enrolled in both so I am current on that information.
This has been an interesting discussion. My high school experience was split- half in private school and half in public. There were a lot of differences, but for me, this statement is totally true.
The whole business of extra-curricular activities being available only to the rich is absolute bullshit.
The public school had more, not less extra-curricular activities on offer.
Thanks! As I nearly never wach TV- please let me know if you see it upcoming.
The stories from that time are so interesting. And there are so many you never hear.............
I love raspberry preserves. I'll get some on the next Costco run.
Here's your feel good story for the day and a new jam for you to buy if you have a Costco nearby.
RS
Ron Shields
Costco carries this jam and I felt that this story needed to be shared.
The incident took place in a supermarket in New Jersey. The tweet is by Michael Perino @ProfessorPerino
“At the supermarket today, I found a small, elderly woman standing in front of a high shelf holding @BonneMamanUS preserves. She was having trouble finding the flavor she wanted because the jars were set back on the shelf.
She couldn’t read the labels. She could barely reach them. I offered to help.
After I handed her the raspberry preserves, she thanked me, paused, and then asked, “Do you know why I buy this brand?”
I laughed and replied, “Because it tastes good?”
“Yes, it tastes good.” She paused again. “I am a Holocaust survivor.”
This was not the conversation I expected on a Sunday grocery run. “During the war, the family that owns the company hid my family in Paris. So now I always buy it. And whenever I go to the store, my grandkids remind me, ‘Bubbe, don’t forget to buy the jelly.’”
I told her that that was the best reason I ever heard to buy any company’s product. And then we both smiled behind our masks and went our separate ways.”
*****************************
Someone else on Twitter looked into the story and indeed, the town that Andros Company, the makers of Bonne Maman, comes from, hid and saved Jewish families in WW2. It was called Biars sur Cere, which then had about 800 villagers.
From an article, “You have to understand what it was like then. There were posters on the walls, from the Nazis and from the collaborators, and they said that if you are found to help a Jew, a freemason, a communist, a socialist, or a pervert, you will be shot on sight.” Despite the great danger in which helping them put the villagers in, still they kept the children safe.”
A good reason to buy Bonne Maman products. And a poignant reminder that when we look out for each other it can change lives, and that there are good and selfless people in the world.
New headache for DuhSantis
BREAKING: Disney Sues DeSantis Board for Violating Constitution
The Walt Disney Company has just filed a countersuit against the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District for violation of the Florida Constitution. This 55-page filing denies the District Board’s claims and accuses the board of Breach of Contract, as well as violating the state constitution.
Disney asks the judge to declare Senate Bill 1604: Land Use and Development Regulations unconstitutional.
Disney is now countersuing CFTOD, seeking damages because the district refuses its "duty to perform" under "valid and binding" contracts. Disney requests the court rule against the district and "award other relief deemed proper."

So this is what has been causing part of the volatility. Having pwned a fair few stocks that were the object of class action suits- this is one of the flimsier one I have ever seen.

BY GlobeNewswire
MONSEY, N.Y., Aug. 17, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The law firm of Wohl & Fruchter LLP is investigating whether Archer Aviation, Inc. (ACHR) (“Archer”) has violated federal securities laws based on allegations in a report published yesterday by Grizzly Research (“Grizzly”) that Archer has been misrepresenting certain aspects of its business operations.
If you suffered losses as a result of yesterday’s drop in Archer’s stock price, and have questions about your legal rights, please contact us at the following link to discuss your options at no charge:

Why is there an investigation?
Archer is an urban air mobility company that designs, develops, manufactures, and operates electric vertical takeoff and landing aircrafts to carry passengers.
On August 16, 2023, Grizzly published a report alleging that Archer has been misrepresenting certain aspects of its business operations. Among other things, the Grizzly report alleges that Archer has been “recycling heavily edited videos of their earlier test flights to portray longer flight performance, more frequent testing, and a generally more advanced product than reality.” The Grizzly report also alleges that Archer has misrepresented the timeline to (i) begin operating its lab and manufacturing facility in San Jose, California, and (ii) secure FAA certification of its prototype aircraft.
After publication of the Grizzly report, Archer’s stock price fell 6.46% in trading on August 16, 2023, to close at $5.94 per share.

I can't imagine wanting to live in a building that tall.
I don't use any of my available margin, but that seems expensive. Do you know if it is?
Someone's buying them today too.
What a god-awful mess that is!
